Where is the border between India and Pakistan....

Thoughts on British colonialism:

India and Pakistan both became independent at the same midnight hour on the same day of the same month of the same year.

One country sucks WAY more than the other country.

So much for the "evil legacy of imperialism."

The countries have a lot in common.

But one big difference.

Guess what that is?!

Case closed.

Posted by: Kathy Shaidle at August 11, 2010 4:06 PM

I think Kathy's talking about "British" and "Christian."

When I was living in a developing country, a black man said to me one day, “I wish the British were still here.” I was surprised because the meme was that the British were imperialist bastards.

When I asked him “why?” he responded, “Because we had law and order” -- not to mention a golf course carved out of the jungle and beautiful gardens along the coast.

I oppose any Canadian funds being directed to Pakistan, for any reason.
If they've fallen on a tragedy of grand proportions, there are +50 islamic states that can lend them a hand, feed them, show them the way. Teach them how to fill sand-bags. A "skill" I learned at about the age of 12 growing up in Regina... All the neighborhood kids volunteered for this during our regular spring flood, the civic authorities paid us in hamburgers, and we were quite happy to help out.

Islam showed their way during the recent earthquake in Haiti. They simply didn't show up. 2 countries sending medics doesn't count as showing up. I do not extend the helping hand to those that want to rule over us, and steal our freedom.

Posted by: marc in calgary at August 11, 2010 4:31 PM

NOt a penny of Jizra again ! this ought to be our cry at the polls. This includes censorship entities run by them like the CHRC that will turn us into another France. Where its inhabitants can't even say what they see. Just another Jihadist tool.

Variations on a theme here.

Remember the Tsunami a few years back? It was the US and Australian Navies that provided the vast majority of the vessels and fleets of helicopters. These were used extensively for months, along with naval personnel, medical teams, naval engineers, etc. And so far as I've read, the vast bulk of the money raised and supplies donated was from the Anglophone countries.

In the Haiti earthquake relief, it was mostly US and Canadian naval vessels; helicopters; military and naval personnel-medical teams, engineers, etc. There was even an RCMP detachment, I presume to provide security for relief personnel and help reorganize and get the Haitian police back up.

By contrast, I remember reading that the knuckle-dragging blowhard thug Hugo Chavez had actually sent ONE PLANELOAD of supplies to Haiti. That same article said that communist Cuba had sent NOTHING.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't remember reading a word in the coverage of either of the above disasters about any aid whatsoever from any of the Arab oil nations. They're awash in oil and petro-dollars but share a profound paucity of spirit.

Posted by: Dave in Pa at August 11, 2010 4:58 PM

This may seem cold but I'm saying it anyway. Why should the Infidel Western Nations provide aid to Pakistan when Muslim nations refuse to help their fellow Muslims via aid? Sorry but the ME is flush with petro dollars and they spend billions speading their vile Wahhabi Islam fascist dogma into Pakistan and Afghanitan thus let them provide aid. I'm sick of providing food to people who call for the Death of my Nation.

Posted by: rose at August 11, 2010 5:07 PM

Pakistan could sell Canada those expensive nuclear weapons it's sitting on and buy the aid they need with the money they get from the sale.

Posted by: Oz at August 11, 2010 5:10 PM

Actually, you can blame the British for Pakistan. They never needed to accept the two-nation theory for splitting up British India. The Brits ill-timed division created a purely Muslim state and now we all have to pay for it. Having current-day Pakistan folded into India wouldn't have solved all the problems but it would have alleviated a lot of them.

Posted by: slaw at August 11, 2010 5:13 PM

Islamic states need a self interest.

Remember that "OH $hit" look on Arafat's face ("I'm shocked...shocked") while his people danced in the streets, after 911?

Perhaps inspired by self interest/preservation but the PA swiftly sent experienced rescue people complete with dogs----delivered by EL AL.

Posted by: sasquatch at August 11, 2010 5:20 PM

Dave in Pa, I had read in MSM that Hugo had sent 2 or 3 containers/sea cans of food supplies to Haiti, a month later it was reported in Venezuela opposition blogs that this food was spoiled food that Venezuela continues to discover in its food chain. Note that the government of Chavez is entirely responsible for this rotten food donation. Neighboring Colombia and others have sent building supplies, food supplies, mobile hospitals and medic/doctors... er, but not Cuba. Iran sent a mobile hospital, Saudi Arabia sent "good luck"?

Donated Rotten Food. where was TorStar on this? where were the Liberals and NDP on this?

In any case, if Pakistan has money to fund terrorist groups, they have money to buy supplies at current market rates from India. ah... the Ukraine was in the news today, it seems they don't want to export grain in the immediate future. Well again, India may sell them grain. I hear the market in grain is jittery today. Perhaps the pakistanis should stop threatening India with death and see how trade with a producing country goes over....

I thought the muslims believed everything was caused by allah. He must have wanted them to come home to his paradise and sent the rain to cause their trip to begin a little before they expected it.

Fully agree, let the muslim states look after their own.

Posted by: Fred at August 11, 2010 5:26 PM

Wait, wasn't there a flood someplace in America this year? Really big one, took out half a state, flooded out the Opry house, people still cleaning up from it?

Barry didn't visit the disaster zone, MSM didn't even mention it, FEMA didn't go there, hardly anybody died...

Oh well, who cares? Its only Americans, they don't need any help.

First responders to natural disasters around the world are always from Christian nations. And that is a fact. The Catholic Church is probably the most prepared, given that it has folks on the ground in nearly every trouble spot who do the jobs that need to be done with very little overhead costs.

People don't usually want to hear this or acknowledge it, but it's just the way things are.

Christians will always respond to these disasters, but I think there should be an expectation that Muslims will provide the lion's share of relief when it's their co-religionists who are affected. I'm not sure that Jesus would agree with me on this, but my human response, frankly, at this time in history, is that “charity begins at home.”

So, Muslim countries, cough up the help your own people need and stop expecting the largely (still) Christian West to do your heavy lifting for you.

Posted by: batb at August 11, 2010 5:57 PM

Islamic population reduction is always welcome.

To hell with them all except for a few brave Muslim women who actually have the gonads to stand up speak the truth about their disgusting cult.

The Syrian Airforce support squadron landed with planes full of jeeps and a hundred water purifiers?

Jordanian Navy showed up off the coast with an aircraft carrier full of helicopters, food and doctors?

Russian frigate full of vodka?

Chinese junk with second hand life preservers for sale?

Canadian birch bark war canoe with a note, "Sorry we couldn't send more guys"?

rose: "Why should the Infidel Western Nations provide aid to Pakistan when Muslim nations refuse to help their fellow Muslims via aid?"

Let me take a crack at that one. Western politicians love shovelling our money down any and every rat hole in the (accurate) belief it will get them some flattering editorials in the media and some votes.

Muslim nations, on the other hand, generally tell the media what to print/say and don't have to worry about votes.

Posted by: Kathryn at August 11, 2010 6:16 PM

We are truly fools in the West. We have allowed the work and sacrifice of our ancestors be thrown away by the work of the liberal parasites we continue to re-elect.

We are force fed a steady stream of guilt for Africa and Asia by an elitist cabal that plunk their assets in tax havens but demand we, unwashed scum, pony up. All that it serves to do is enrich the warlords and dictators (but that's okay, because they are "of color").

Where are the wealthy Saudis? Oh they finance wahabiist missionaries but not aid. Where are the Chinese? Oh, they are too busy draining the area of resources and pulling the fingernails of anyone who gets in their way.

Reminds me of the first Gulf war when all the Kuwaitis were dancing in Cairo discos. When asked why they weren't doing anything to liberate their kingdom they answered that they were having their white slaves do it.

It's times like this I remember the President of Pakistan on CBC scolding Canada for our concern over Pakistan's instability, essentially telling us to mind our own business.

So in deference to his wishes I say the flood is Allah's will, and good luck dealing with it.

Isn't much of the damage in the Swat valley? If so, isn't that where the Taliban are basically in charge and the Pakistan army is constantly fighting them.

Like so many posters have said above. Not a red cent. Let Chavez send some more of his Marxist created rotten food. Let Saudi Arabia take some of the funds earmarked for building mosques and training terrorists in the west and send it to their brothers.

Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at August 11, 2010 8:26 PM

I tried searching for "aid from Pakistan", to see what their own record of generosity was, but the only results I could get were "Taliban" and "Mumbai Massacre". But I'm sure that's just because I'm a poor researcher.

Posted by: Dave at August 11, 2010 8:29 PM

Israel did this. It's a Zionist flood.

Now will they send money?

Posted by: Black Mamba at August 11, 2010 8:31 PM

If you check with Mark Kelley (which network is he with now?), you will find that he saw the Muslim charities bringing aid to the tsunami victims. He interviewed one of the volunteers and he was beaming with admiration.

That was immediately after he lied about World Vision and what they were doing. Not a fib, or little white lie, but a great big huge lie - the kind that only Lieberals can tell.

He didn't retract or apologize, nor did he ever explain that within a few days after his obsequious interview, the Muzzies departed the scene. World Vision ignored the slander and remained until the work was finished.

Posted by: gellen at August 11, 2010 8:48 PM

Slaw - That is pure supposition. It is fun being contrafactual but we will never know for sure. It's like saying "If Grandma had balls, she'd be Grandpa".

Posted by: larben at August 11, 2010 9:01 PM

Off topic slightly...I wonder if anybody from the CBC or TorStae can answer the following:

In order to fully understand the the religion of peace and the enlightened viewpoint of the President Obama is there any one from the cheerleading squad in the MSM who can answer for how long and how far must one shove their head up their arse before thye become oblivous to the obvious? To help you along just think of it as "nuance"

For bonus points

Is there a subsidized medical procedure one can have performed to speed up the process or an Ivy league yoga class one can take?

Do you get use to the aroma? Are goggles needed?

Moot point, because I'm sure to ask the question answers it, if at any time you turn head slightly to the right will this injure you or negate the nuanced viewpoint?

Posted by: Brian M. at August 11, 2010 10:24 PM

The reason Saudi Arabia, etc do not contribute to the Pakistani relief effort is that Pakistanis are not Arabs and are therefore second rate muslims.

Posted by: albertaclipper at August 11, 2010 11:27 PM

Pakistan aids and abets those who kill Canadian troops. Not one cent of government aid to those Muslim terrorist sympathizers. Let the Muslims take care of their own.

Posted by: John Galt at August 12, 2010 12:12 AM

I oppose taxpayer funded aid to any regime which refuses to conduct open honest elections.

or harbours fugitives from justice for offenses committed against Canadians anywhere they occurred.

or provides sanctuary for criminal organizations, ie tolerates off-shore banks catering to organized crime.

or refuses to sign extradition treaties with Canada.

or has a track record of locals siphoning off funds in the past.

or files suit against Canada in any trade dispute.

etc etc

think of the money we would save.

Posted by: beagle at August 12, 2010 3:33 AM

Goggle - Pakistani Billionaire's

Note - 8 out of 10 of these billionaires are generals.

Why do we really give Pakistan so much aid all of the time?

Why dosen't India and Pakistan nuke each other?

Regardless of the true answers to politically incorrect questions of Pakisthan - if they actually did nuke each other, or we if stopped enriching their generals, we would be the ultimate winners. Maybe then all the Pakistanis in Canada could go home, no?

Posted by: Knight 99 at August 12, 2010 5:00 AM

I do have a problem with the (very) few "hope they all drown" comments on this thread, like the one @5:37

Sending aid might be useless - I don't know - and Muslim countries are cerainly useless at sending aid, but do you really wish death and misery on impoverished, desperate people?

If that's really how you feel then there you go, but how do you think it makes Kate's blog look?

Posted by: Peter at August 12, 2010 12:27 PM

Twice nothing is still nothing. Liberals don't get this because they are bad at math.

Mamba, it appears that there are some people posting here that don't really understand the concept "free country" or the concept "compassion".

These people are the ideological brothers of the Control Everything Left, they are the Control Everything Right. The difference between them is a mere moving of the deck chairs on the Great Ship of State, they're all headed the same place in the end.

Dear control freaks, letting poor people die in floods does not make Canada a better, richer place any more than the wholesale importation of unskilled poor people does. Kindly THINK about stuff, otherwise you're just another doofus that goes on how you feeeeeel about things today.

I'll take one decent Muslim over ten of y'all any time.

Other than that, I'm opposed to government aid of any kind. PRIVATE aid, that I'm all for. Less chance of it being stolen by generals and other poohbahs.

Posted by: The Phantom at August 12, 2010 1:48 PM

Well said Phantom. I am a truck driver. I have met a lot of Packies. Waiting for a back haul with a bunch of them, for three days, I discovered one of them seemed a decent guy. I said to him:"Well, this is really neat I finally met a packie that I like." He said to me: "Ah yes, but I am a christian." If you meet a decent Muslim, once you are sure your not being set up to be fleeced, introduce me would you?
That said, thank you for an insightful, instructive post.

Posted by: dlm at August 12, 2010 11:54 PM

Pakistan knows that if it gave up nuclear weapons, they would be toast; both from within ( the ISI created Taliban ) and without ( India).

The yearly outlay to support a nuclear arsenal would help the flood victims 10x over..

Any country that adheres to a religion that makes up rules on where and when you can f*uck a goat should never be trusted with Atomic weapons..

Posted by: Kursk at August 13, 2010 8:13 PM

Phantom, while I thank you for your altruism, I really think you miss the point.

People are not merely 'fed up' with things..that 'feeling' (as you so aptly opined) has been replaced with rejection; both of certain ideologies and the people who practice them. That the well has been tainted for all and sundry should not come as a surprise.Islamists, terrorists, freeloaders ( Lebanon etc) have taken their toll on our people.

The west, to include Canadians, have been played for suckers for decades. There is a growing anger that has been slow to roil, but you are seeing the beginning of something that I predict will get very ugly when push comes to shove.

Why are these folks you dislike the object of your scorn, because they wish to stand up for their own kind and not be the money and food bank to those who wish us ( for the most part) ill will?

Those 'decent Muslims' that you will take over the ones you dislike better get off their high horse and start to make headway against those of their kind who are causing the problem..otherwise, as the old saying goes, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

Posted by: Kursk at August 13, 2010 8:30 PM

Kursk, I think the main thing to remember is that Muslims are not the cause of the problems we have in this country. The government is.

The government sets the rules and allows in hundreds of thousands of people who shouldn't be here. They didn't shoot their way in, or even sneak in like Mexicans do in the USA. They were invited, and THEY GET PAID TO STAY. They get paid with your money.

If they weren't paid, most would go home on their own. Canada sucks in the winter, and they can't leave the big city or the scary White people scowl at them and they can't get around because there's no buses. Who wants to live in that?

Wishing people in Pakistan would die in a flood because OUR government is a pack of a-holes, this is raging lunacy my friend.

Let's not get confused about who the enemy is, shall we?
