An interview with Maxime Bernier.
Posted by Kate at May 28, 2010 12:31 PMThe man speaks with logic and reason, two concepts that appear foreign to Canada's politicians, including more than a few Tories. It's a shame he is damaged goods as far as the MSM and naive public goes for the ex-biker babe/office notes on the table scandal.
Posted by: Texas Canuck at May 28, 2010 12:50 PMI've been watching this guy for a long time.
Despite his little "skirt" problem.....the security issue seems over-stated.....a tempest in the teapot the lefty media could exploit....because they fear him like Sarah Pallin.
Busy, talented folk tend to forget stuff...have lapses....that why we have staff.
Then there is the tendency for talented people to need somebody about to make sure---their fly is zipped...that can be taken several ways.
And then the robust folk of the Beauce back him four-square.
Texas Canuck: The ironic thing is, to most of us the MSM are damaged goods....
Funny how we are supposed to forgive any indiscretions Liberals and NDPers make....but heaven forbit a Conservative makes a faux pas.
I think Maxime has risen far past that flirtation. He's on his way up.

Posted by: Soccermom at May 28, 2010 1:30 PMBeauce and some of the Quebec city region are where the only Conservative/Right wing ideals exist in that socio nightmare called Quebec.
If Canada was Europe, Quebec would be Greece.
Maxime Bernier is a rare shining beacon along with Lucien Bouchard and that Independent MP, ex AM radio jock which his name escapes me right now.
A VERY rare breed in that part of the country.
Quebecers take longer to awake mainly because of their language barrier exploited by exclusively lefty medias: Radio-Canada (French CBC), Telemetropole (Which would be the equivalent of Global). Even separatism and Canada bashing exist in their newspapers (Le Devoir is one)
All news is lefty. 24 hrs a day in Quebec.
By protecting their language and their culture, Quebecers have shut themselves completely out of anything else but lefty indoctrination by advantage taking snakes like the Marxist educated Gilles Duceppe and the cabal of lefty trained journalists.
At least 60% of Quebecers still believe they send more money to Ottawa than they get back in equalisation payments.

Reminds me of a quirky item I read some years ago. Might have been in "The Peter Principle". Someone checked staffing levels over the years at the Colonial Office and discovered that taking the pre WWI height of the British Empire manning level as a baseline, the staffing had increased by over a factor of ten or more by the late 20th century when there were only a few dependent leftovers scattered around the world requiring attention.
Posted by: Sgt Lejaune at May 28, 2010 2:15 PMTexas Canuck: An "ex-biker babe"? I don't think there is any such thing. It had to be a setup. Politics is a dirty business.
Too bad, this fellow is exactly what the country needs in office. Instead what do we have waiting in the isles: an ex commie activist and an absent minded American professor. And carbon tax; big carbon taxes.
Mr. Bernier reads like the Conservative blue book circa 2004. Flat tax, small government, personal responsibility, etc.
Glad to see at least one party member is still thinking conservative.
He gets it. I have significant misgivings about the rest.
Posted by: Mark Peters at May 28, 2010 2:48 PMThe CPC needs more Maxime Bernier. And while "zero growth in government" would be a nice initial target, what we really need is negative growth in government.

The British empire was a MODEL of efficiency and economy of force. Check out how many British bureaucrats and soldiers it took to manage India, compared to how many there are now. Try to tell me a straight face it's run better now.
The same thing was noticed in North Africa in WWII wheere the USA HQ there kept growing, even though fighting had long since moved on, until after the end of the war in Europe.
After Harper, Maxime.
Is there any alternative?
He would easily win a majority, because:
- he can speak clarly
- he likes women (cmp PET)
I second JR's motion at 3:39.
I also suspect that Maxime has learned a lesson from the episode with the skirt.
Regarding staffing at the Colonial Office...and then the Brits started voting Labour.
Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at May 28, 2010 7:17 PMTher is NO language barrier in Quebec RHTT.... there is however a cultural barrier.... the culture of self serving victimhood.
FTF!
Posted by: OMMAG at May 28, 2010 7:34 PMIf you want to reduce government you must first reduce regulations and law. that's why government grows. politicans need to get elected so they must be seen to being doing something about something. I work for the government and you will be amaxzed how offended Canadians can get when you tell them that an activity by someone (or lack of) is not against the law. Most people want a reduction in laws that effect themselves, but not other people.
Posted by: Colin at May 29, 2010 2:10 AMWell said Max! This man, from a woman's point of view, is hard to resist! He probably does not give the msm dames a second look; hence their vitriol is piled on him.
Mad Max is a close friend of PMSH. This, also, speaks volumes to me.
