Yumpin' Rejkavik, that's a big cloud!

In other unrelated news, Mansbridge comes down with 24hr laryngitis?
See, I used a question mark, makes it all good, eh?

(Btw, this volcano reminds me of when Mt. St. Helen's blew up, ash and dust all over Canada.)

Posted by: Al the thawing fish in Manitoba at April 15, 2010 4:57 PM

How is it pronounced in the original Klingon?

Posted by: DocBrown at April 15, 2010 5:07 PM

Eyjafjallajokull: Icelandic for, "And you insignificant feckwits in that little global warming scam of yours think YOU can influence climate?!?"

Posted by: b_C at April 15, 2010 5:08 PM

Is the science settled?

Posted by: nnm at April 15, 2010 5:09 PM

Hopefully the Icelandic government takes the proper steps and makes the investments to repair this glacier after the volcano settles.

Posted by: ChrisinMB at April 15, 2010 5:11 PM

It's also safe to say Iceland used up all it's carbon credits.

Posted by: ChrisinMB at April 15, 2010 5:15 PM

I'm thinking pretty soon the population of Icelanders in Manitoba could soon be larger than the population of Icelanders in Iceland.

Captain Slizuki to the rescue? It's a bird, it's a plane,...no it's not stupid. It's just another load of flatulence spewing over the land.

Posted by: melwilde at April 15, 2010 6:04 PM

true! Gimli should really just get it over with and annex Iceland :D

Posted by: ChrisinMB at April 15, 2010 6:07 PM

Iceland gets its revenge for what Euroland did to their economy.

Eyjafjallajokull

Try saying that five times fast!

Posted by: Osumashi Kinyobe at April 15, 2010 6:55 PM

It is her bigger sister we have to worry about. Katla in it's last eruption produced massive amounts of sulfer dioxide causing a large loss of life in Europe due to food production loss. Katla tends to erupt about 2 years after here little sister.

Posted by: kent at April 15, 2010 6:57 PM

Still hasn't spewed as much as the goracle.

Posted by: mike at April 15, 2010 7:01 PM

Suhanna Marchand at CBC might want to vacuum up the mess of ice smoke.

Yes indeed a great day to be journalist.

Posted by: bluetech at April 15, 2010 7:09 PM

or not....

Posted by: bluetech at April 15, 2010 7:10 PM

BBC world news seems to have got the pronunciation right!

I'm impressed at how the jet stream has helped to dump this on Britain .... a lot of cold arctic air and smelly dirt ..... nice.

Posted by: OMMAG at April 15, 2010 7:20 PM

Let's see how whole-word-reading taught students deal with that one! 'Though even for the "Fun with Phonics" crowd it's a bit of a task.

Posted by: DrD at April 15, 2010 7:24 PM

You think the Brits might charge the Icelanders with terrorism, again? A volcano has as much to do with it as banksters manipulations.

Perhaps rounding up the 3 dozen or so (unnamed, so far) people that screwed the Icelandic economy, (some of whom are in England with their stolen wealth intact) and offering a sacrifice to the volcano would help?

"Eruptions"

"Hi! You're looking at Eruptions, a blog dedicated to volcanism. Your host is Dr. Erik Klemetti, a geologist who spends most of his professional time thinking about magma. Looking for info on the latest eruption? You've found the place."

"Subglacial eruption underway at Eyjafjallajökull-Fimmvörduháls in Iceland"

"It's also safe to say Iceland used up all it's carbon credits." Posted by: ChrisinMB at April 15, 2010 5:15 PM

Well Chrisin, I think Iceland should earn carbon credits as the the ash(if enough is generated) will trigger a global cooling and give the polar bears a temporary reprieve.

Posted by: Canuckguy at April 15, 2010 8:41 PM

Global warming caused the ice sheet to melt which allowed the volcano to blow. Global warming causes volcanoes. You read it here first.

Posted by: Ray at April 15, 2010 9:04 PM

Heh, one of the talking heads on CNBC today mused how long it would be to clean up the mess left by the eruption. Anyone up for magma mopping?

Posted by: eljay at April 15, 2010 9:05 PM

Maybe we are witnessing the beginning of a massive eruption and if so, that will have dire consequences.

Posted by: Canuckguy at April 15, 2010 9:18 PM

The obvious reason for the volcano outburst is that global warming weakened the ice sheet holding the lava in check. It's surprising AGWhore hasn't surfaced with a suitable press release and prospectus.

I can spot a Canadian Geographic writer a mile away...

Posted by: Jamie MacMaster at April 15, 2010 9:34 PM

Sgt Lejaune, Shhhh.

Next thing you know some post secondary "student" will write a paper based on your one remark and next thing you know it'll be an accepted grant avenue er, tax generating theory of AGW.

Posted by: ldd at April 15, 2010 9:52 PM

Still making a list on who to sacrifice. Don't want to plug the sucker.

Posted by: Speedy at April 15, 2010 10:24 PM

Well get used to it because it's gonna blow ash for a hundred years and end life as we knew it on earth. Or was that the History Channel thingie about what if the sun blew a rod?

Anyway, here's how you say it:

Aye, a feckin joker

except you say yoker to sound Icelandic.

Say feckin as if you are vomiting herring.

Let's just hope Ahmadinjehad doesn't show up.

Ah, my dinner jacket, there's a feckin joker.

Posted by: Peter O'Donnell at April 15, 2010 10:38 PM

Peter O'- Very good! I think I read you on the 'vomiting herring' part, but is it more authentic if it's also through the nose?? (I hate when that happens!) ;~0,

And he said Sarah Palin was dim.

Al why would Manitoba want Icelanders they are not very diverse. Though we could get them to build homes and seize them to make a provincial park again like happened with Hecla.

Posted by: dinosaur at April 15, 2010 11:16 PM

while yer all yukking yer faces off mebbe you could ponder how many polar bear cubs were orphaned because of this catastrophe...

Eyjafjallajokull? I had one of those once, but the wheels fell off.

Laki 1783.

Posted by: xiat at April 16, 2010 2:05 AM

@dinosaur, we need somebody to commercial fish for the walleye!

And I noticed last night Mansbridge (watched between hockey games, otherwise he would not darken my TV) referred to it as "that volcano in Iceland"- he wasn't going near the pronunciation of its name.

Btw, volcanoes blow, Gore sucks.

Posted by: Al the thawing fish in Manitoba at April 16, 2010 10:10 AM

I suggest we dub it "Mount Unpronouncable"

Posted by: mojo at April 16, 2010 12:04 PM

Question to all the "greenies" out there ... How many cars burning fossil fuel would be required to generate this much pollution?

Posted by: Brian at April 16, 2010 4:02 PM

"Katla tends to erupt about 2 years after here little sister"

So it IS true, the world will end in 2012!

Time to get that new car!
