Posted by Kate at January 11, 2010 1:21 PMFormer Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has signed on as a contributor to the Fox News Channel.
The network confirmed that Ms. Palin will appear on the network’s programming on a regular basis as part of a multi-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Sara Palin on FNC will justify the extra $5 I have to fork over to Rogers for the 'news media' pak.
Posted by: PhilM at January 11, 2010 1:42 PMIt isn't fair. Fox has more viewers than the other 3 combined. Good thing CRTC won't let us watch or they would be through the roof.

Canadian MSM pooh-bahs cannot wrap their heads around the fact that a National conservative voice in Canada such as FOX Cable in the US, could be a true money maker for them.
I could not get Canadian viewership numbers for O'Reilly on FOX at 8 pm eastern, but I suspect its greater than than watch CTV and CBC combined in Canada at that hour.
Personally I dropped CNN from my bundle and opted for FOX as soon as the CRTC gave us permission to watch FOX legally in Canada a couple of years ago.

Sounder, when Fox News came to Canada a few years back, I too was quite suspicious of the 2+ channel requirement to subscribe to Fox News. But, I can confirm, through direct correspondence with Fox News at the time, that this directive comes from Fox News. They didn't explain why, and I am honestly still puzzled by it. But, it is not a Shaw issue. Shaw is simply complying with the requirements set forth by FNC to air their content.

It's not that I don't like Sarah Palin; I do (and if anything ever happens to Todd, and she moves in next door, I'd be delirious), but she really isn't equipped for the Presidency at this time.
Nixon was bright in some ways, but he surrounded himself with bad people, perhaps due to paranoia after JFK stole the 1960 election. Ford was an amiable placeholder, and Carter was a disaster who figured out how to work the new primary system before anyone else did. Reagan may not have been the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he had unwavering moral courage. Bush I was actually a very bright guy undone by poor public speaking. Slick Willy was the exact opposite of Reagan - very bright (you don't get to be a Rhodes Scholar by accident) with no moral compass whatsoever. Bush II was also a smart guy (they don't hand out Harvard MBA's like Crackerjacks), but he had the misfortune of being elected at the absolute zenith of the American century, and he suffered from events beyond his control.
We all know what a disaster Bambam is, and will be for the next three years. But Sarah is not the answer.
She would have been a great president in, say, the 1950's. But, today, as America's importance in the world wanes (it's quite likely that in 10 years, China will have the world's largest GDP and the world's strongest currency), it needs a President who will address the biggest issues and tell the hard truths that Americans need to hear. Sarah did none of that while governor of Alaska, and I haven't heard her say anything at any time that gives me confidence she'll do it as president.
I wish her all the best at Fox, but I truly fear that over-exposure will heighten awareness of her flaws, and diminish her strengths.

I watched all her interviews on Fox and to my liking she too often appealed to 'self evident truth'. The trouble is that it's not self evident truth and the MSM wants to keep it that way! What she seemingly lacks was what Regan had and that was a compact communication style that exposed the lie. His "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" is a prime example. While Sarah's, "Well common sense tells you...". The fact is that common sense is only common amongst those who think as you do. For anyone with a different mind set 'common sense' tells them something different.

Kevin B ... You post intelligent stuff on this blog regularly.
Why are you stuck in the 50's regarding Palin? She reminds you of June Cleaver?
"... it needs a President who will address the biggest issues and tell the hard truths that Americans need to hear"
Why don't you tell us what these hard truths are. I want to compare that to Palin's mantra of personal and government fiscal responsibility. Her stance on effective energy independence and calling out the White house on terrorism, isn't that what America needs to hear?
At least she would be a decent CinC the troops could understand.
You know that expression "fish or cut bait" ? She sure a hell does.
You ( and lots of others) want her to wait and cut bait while the ship of state is sinking around her.
She's got guts. She can handle her own as has so deftly shown by the fact she's still standing.
From Facebook to Fox! Gibbs is dying a slow one tonight.
KevinB, I understand your points, but if over the next few years she listens more than she talks on Fox, she can really develop a sophisticated media parlance. With a good support team, she also could deliver useful commentary that would increase traction as a serious candidate. She doesn't have that now, despite her genuine fans.

First a little disclosure, I am an agnostic who calls himself an atheist to simplify the conversation.
That said, I am a fan of M.Huck regardless of his evangelical leanings. Personally I won't discriminate with respect to someone’s religion when I'm at the ballot box; although, I will consider is a plus if the candidate comes from and espouses Judeo/Christian beliefs because of my high level of respect for people of those faiths.
Personally, I've grown quite fond of M.Huckabee because of his intuitively correct responses to most if not all questions and criticism. What I'm saying is M.Huckabee doesn't need to consult the polls or his handlers to know the correct course of action. I believe that Fred Thompson also had this trait, and such is why I initially supported him. Mitt Romney and Giuliani are not of the same ilk for comparisons sake although both are strong candidates. Huckabee was the successful governor of a state and he doesn't get stuck in ideology, he functions in reality. It's my understanding that to the chagrin of conservatives, MH raised taxes the first few years but in the end taxpayers were in the black and the state faired quite well under his watch.
I understand that as an Atheist you are hardwired to resist supporting someone that follows Christianity publically although I am puzzled as to why. MH is a strong candidate and it's my opinion that fiscal conservatives should consider his track record and his stance on important issues, and not discount a candidate based on his spiritual beliefs. Posted by: Indiana Homez at January 11, 2010 7:22 PMWhy don't you tell us what these hard truths are.
1 - Social Security is broke. It isn't underfunded, it isn't undertaxed, it is BROKE.
2 - Medicare/Medicaid, along with SS, will break the US bank. Bambam's health care plan will do NOTHING, NOTHING to rein in health care costs. The only way to reduce medical costs in the US in any meaningful way is tort reform. Haven't heard Sarah say word one about that.
3 - Education. So long as US education policy is dominated by the NEA and the teachers' unions, the US is doomed to a slow decline. US children consistently score poorly on any international tests, and a nation that graduates ten times as many liberal arts BA's as it does engineering BSC's is in trouble in the future, where intellectual ability will be the key determinant of a nation's prosperity. (We're in trouble on that score as well, but the US is in deeper doo-doo.)
4 - War. The US could afford to be policeman of the world when it was a net creditor to the rest of the world. Now that it is a net debtor, and its current account worsens every day, it cannot. China's PLA is the largest army on the planet; how many troops does it have in Iraq or Afghanistan? Uh-huh.
5 - The military-financial complex. Ike warned of the military-industrial one, but American industry has been severely wounded. However, the penetration of one financial firm, Goldman Sachs, of key positions in the US government, has been so massive and pervasive, it's no wonder that the bailout funnelled billions, not to American consumers as Keynes would have advocated, but to Goldman and a few other Wall Street firms. Note that less than 18 months after being so close to death's door that they required huge amounts of government cash, Goldman has paid back all the TARP funds, and is now free to (and is) pay multi-million dollar bonuses (bonii?) to its executives.
Now, if Sarah has said word one on any of these topics, I'd like to be enlightened. Yes, she's opposed to Bambam's health plan, but has she gone after the lawyers? Not that I heard. Not a peep about teachers' unions. Nothing about SS. Not a word against the wars, and the disproportionate share the US bears.
The American century ran from about 1914 to 2010. It's over. Barring another American revolution, or a revolutionary change in government, it's not going to be reborn. The only politician I have respect for is Ron Paul, and he's been marginalized and maligned by the MSM. More's the pity; he's the only man I could see leading the US out its troubles.

Although I agree with much of you analysis regarding the USA, I disagree that Palin has somehow disqualified herself from leading on those aforementioned issues, but regarding Ron Paul: you dun lost your mind! oops did I say that already?
It's doubtful that "revolution" and quick changes will happen as you suggest. The next best thing is an aggressive tax-cutting business friendly, enemy unfriendly White House.

First, my Raptors are giving your Pacers a pasting so far tonight.
Second, Paul is a "fossil" who happens to believe in the US Constitution. You are aware, as Paul is, that since the Federal Reserve was created in 1913, the US dollar has lost 93% of its value? Paul does not believe in any specious "right to privacy" that legalizes abortion (and, as a former OB/GYN, you might say he has first hand experience in this matter). Paul wants to push education down to the local level (teachers, parents, local government) and disband the entire national Department of Education/NEA establishment. Paul, like many here, but few in Congress or our House of Parliament, thinks global warming is a gigantic hoax. Paul on drugs:
"As a physician, father, and grandfather, I abhor drugs. I just know that there is a better way — through local laws, communities, churches, and families — to combat the very serious problem of drug abuse than a massive federal-government bureaucracy.”
Paul's opinion on the Asian wars: It doesn’t make any sense unless you consider increasing the profits of the military-industrial complex to be in the “national interest”, no matter what the cost to the rest of us may be.
America first. That is what Ron Paul’s national defense proposal is all about. And with America he means all Americans, not just the elite. If elected President, Ron Paul will continue his efforts to secure our borders, hunt down the 9/11 terrorist planners (who are still at large), safely withdraw our troops from Iraq and other countries around the world, and finally overhaul the intelligence apparatus in cooperation with intelligence professionals rather than political opportunists.
Um, what, in particular, is "fossilized" in the above?

No Dave, I'm comfortably at home in the center of redneck Alberta actually - your knee-jerk bias has failed you.
The Phantom at January 11, 2010 4:21 PM
"People like me?" Meaning... people that disagree with the party line here? Knee-jerk bias failure again.
Y'all could use a read of Vitruvius' bias confirmation post (he'll provide the link when he sees this) from a ways back kids! Or you can't rightly claim you're ANY different from the (fill in denigrating term for someone you don't fashionably believe in) people that are endlessly railed against here. Podunks with pitchforks perhaps, but is this the best that Canadian Conservatism can do from its "regular" folks? Sheesh.

"Compared to whom, Obama and Biden, because that's who she has to compete with unless there is some better Republican/Tea Party candidate?"
But sadly, there does not appear to be, and it's all the Right can do to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear with her, or Beck, or Hannity, or even Fox News. As someone who has been described as "right of Genghis Khan", I'm embarrassed by association. None of these people are your father's neocons by any stretch. They're clowns, parading their righteous indignation as Gospel Truth to stir up sales and ratings while offering little of substance. All smoke, no fire.
Huckabee, however, seems to be a nice guy, and very reasonable, at least on non-moral grounds.
and as a followup to FREEs post, you can also go to http://atdhe.net click the Live TV link, and there's also live streaming, free, Fox News.
Posted by: meshuggah at January 11, 2010 8:34 PMSarah Palin reminds me of the very famous and controversial Conservative Party of Alberta leader...Ralph Klein. (only without the drinking problem)
Now don't get me wrong or started on all the similarities and all the differences,...but...he started as a weatherman on T.V. (Palin as a sportscaster) moved into local, then provincial politics.
And he was controversial!!! Everyone who was a conservative loved his candid and sometimes brutal honesty, at times to his detriment, but he sure got people talking. He was a fiscal conservative but lacked on the moral/social conservative side of the ledger(unlike Palin who is very conservative morally)
This could make her very likable and electable in the more conservative United States, with all that apple pie and motherhood thing going on down there.
I am sure there will be lots of debate about this, let it rip!!!!

Posted by: Joe Citizen at January 11, 2010 9:31 PMAnd who, Chickie, does the Left have?
Surely not any of those legacy Dem representatives who are recently declining to run for reelection.
Wait until we see the Dem bloodletting in November.
Yeah, blood and guts and veins in the teeth!/ off arlo guthrie
After the bloodletting, who will be left to run for the Democrat presidential slate come 2012?
A stimulus sucking Dem Governor who has taxed the rich out of the state perhaps?
LOL!
Some anonymous warm body from the peanut gallery like Jimmy Carter who was never before elected to any public office will be the Dem Presidential candidate in 2012 is my guess.
(my hope is that it will be the Big Owe)giggle snert cough
Huckabee bridges the very real Tea party movement with the GOP how exactly, Chickie?
Sarah Palin, former Republican Vice-Presidential candidate former Governor of the State of Alaska, has a solid footing in the populist Tea Party movement which GOP chairman Michael Steele has been disparaging.
Huckabee has zero creds with the Tea Partiers and the Tea Party is going to matter.
(or am I missing something about Huck)
She's doing all the right things. She cannot throw, or not throw, her hat in the ring until after the 2010 mid-terms.
However, she needs to maintain her public profile. She has already taken care of her finances - her book. Now she has a public position where she can wait ......
Also, though she has followed my advise, I doubt it was delivered. But she has smarts herself and is following them. The skill of an executive is not to do the stuff all themselves, but how to judge who can be delegated with that particular task; I think Palin is SHE.
For all of you who say the Saracuda ain't ready to be President, I agree. Lots of work to do there.
But really, you don't think she'd have done better by now than Barry? She could have done better if she'd gone shopping the whole time.
I think a bowl full of goldfish would have done better than Barry. Its not a high bar to get over, you know?
Pro gun, anti-socialist, can see lightning and hear thunder? I'll take it.
Posted by: The Phantom at January 11, 2010 10:11 PM> I wish her all the best at Fox, but I truly fear that over-exposure will heighten awareness of her flaws...
I wouldn't worry about it. Her unbelievable stupidity will hardly be noticed in the middle of the FOX lineup.

Here here, I wouldn't believe she's stupid either.
I'm sure you'll watch her on Fox and comprehend nothing of notice.
Wow... and the liberano heads are already exploding.

Free @ 11:36, yes and they are heavy on here tonight.
Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at January 11, 2010 11:56 PMPalin crunched the numbers & was alerted of the obvious fact that she'll never come within hailing distance of the Oval Office.
So...she joins the ranks of self-described "rodeo clown" Glenn Beck to make some buckooskis exploiting the spiteful, mean-spirited resentment (brought on by massive - and warranted - inferiority complexes) of you-all.
Hey, it's capitalism, folks! And show biz. P.T. Barnum's having a gigglefest somewhere...

It IS capitalism and business would be good except for Democrat interference with the housing market which caused the bubble which caused the world-wide recession.
The gigglefest P.T.Barnum would be having is somewhere in your pants, a certain place you probably couldn't locate with both hands & a Dust Buster.
No reason Fox can't get richer with a bigger market share, and no reason Sarah Palin can't make a living and polish her chops while shining the spotlight on Leftist shenanigans plus developing greater mass appeal.
mass appeal=votes
It's all good.
Word...peace out.
(just kidding about the peace)
She started in Journalism and that's where she belongs.
She was an OUTSTANDING governor of Alaska and would have been a good Vice President. But she simply doesn't have the chops for the top chair. At best, she'd make a great Secretary of Energy or a Senator.
She has merely average intellect. By saying that, I'm not insulting her as much as you might think. Frankly, I think every President we've had in my lifetime has been no better than slightly above-average and, at worst, well below-average.
Their moral values, character, bravery, and political savvy also left much to be desired. It's rather disappointing how poorly qualified our politicians are as leaders. I suspect the best qualified people wouldn't want the job.
America desperately needs a philosopher-king: a polyglot with an advanced degree in Economics with prior military service and a keen interest and facility with law, history, philosophy, and physical sciences. He'd also have to have some musical talent and a tight six-pack.
Once we get someone like that, we won't ever want to settle for anything less.

Posted by: Colin from Mission B.C. at January 12, 2010 4:21 AMPalin has already accomplished more than any of us posting here. But "Baby, You ain't seen nothing yet!" Canada established the precedent for Palin as president.
The last 2 (self-proclaimed) Canadian heads of state came from the network that has a legal mandate for fair and balanced reporting.
Posted by: WalterF at January 12, 2010 8:21 AMIn other news, Barry is at a low 46% approval rating this AM...
Sarah Palin will either be behind the next POTUS or she will be the next POTUS...
If a light colored skin negro who does not use african American dialect if he so chooses can be POTUS, surely a pretty and smart mother and wife with mayoral and Governorship experience could................surely use a light colored negro to serve her coffee when she's busy running the USA as POTUS.
Conclusion: Barry might have a job after 2012.
Note: The last politically incorrect paragraph was already approved by the lefty Democrats and their MSM minions. Just ask Harry "Botoxface" Reid or Slick Willy Clinton.

What a load of utter rot!
It is already working !!
Chris Mathews screams and yells and goes berserk, says Sarah doesn't know anything. The guy is scared sh!tless.
If Beck has more audience than all MSNBC pundits put together, imagine what Saracuda will do to tingly leg himself!!
Posted by: ron in kelowna ∴ at January 12, 2010 11:50 AMYep the trolls are out eating seals again....
In truth it is difficult to establish what qualifies anybody to be POTUS.
If you apply reverse psychology....Palin qualifies emminently---just by the reaction of the left. The Democrats much like Canada's Libranos are, instinctively, very adept politically although they both currently are stuck on stupid.
IOW a denounciation by the left is a signal recommendation. The more pronounced the denounciation the more pronounced the recommendation.
I and most here, are not acquainted enough with Sarah Palin to form a founded opinion.
It is obvious that the beltway GOP elite, regarded Palin as unsatisfactory----no Ivy-league credentials, no political baggage---IOW a threat to the GOP establishment.
This FOX thing, could be the Rubicon....to the political elites....AND THEY KNOW IT.
I'm not into religion (despite a stint in a fox-hole) but have always marvelled at how it has become a standard lefty(sometimes effective)tactic to denounce a conservative as a loon simply because he attends church.
Palin will do just fine as POTUS....the Democrats think so too.
Posted by: sasquatch at January 12, 2010 12:14 PMJust like Harper was and is still not part of the elites of Desmarais/Powercorp/TorontoMontreal corridor club, Sarah Palin is the "cleanest" popular candidate known at this time which also means her life is already 20 times more in danger now than Barry's will ever be.
With her words and vision for the US, so far she truly is a threat to the ultra corrupt establishment.
She might have to sing their tune eventually.... or strictly avoid any rides in a Convertible car...especially near grassy knolls.
She started in Journalism and that's where she belongs.
Yeah, but as weather fluff, while the years are still kind.
Posted by: phil at January 12, 2010 6:58 PMbut have always marvelled at how it has become a standard lefty(sometimes effective)tactic to denounce a conservative as a loon simply because he attends church.
But, of course, a Muslim who prays five times a day, and listens without question to the vitriol of imams, is not a "loon" but simply a person of faith who deserves our tolerance and respect.
Feh.
Posted by: KevinB at January 12, 2010 9:21 PMsasquatch nails it.
If the dems weren't worried Palin would have been ignored.
It's that simple.
I'm reading her book. Classy response to lefty garbage. And for all the ad hominem attacks here and in the blogosphere you cannot argue the fact that she had Zero and the Dems pegged the night of her RNC speech. And recently she had the guts to call them on their 'death panels' while the rest of America slept.
Americans just weren't ready for her.
They are getting there.
Gotta laugh at the trolls dissing FOX...the ratings say it all.
What a treat to read through THIS thread!
Sarah Palin is more qualified than the entire Obama administration , including Michelle Obama , Grandma and the kiddies!
We have one of the least qualified POTUS in the history of the country and the left screams about Sarah Palin. That demonstration alone shows what lunatics the left really are. It is mass insanity and they have the levers of power in the most powerful country on the planet. Sarah is qualified ten times over to run the US and any other country at the same time. I have come to the conclusion she has more balls than the entire Senate. Smarts and balls. With Chavez, Ajab,Khadafi and all the other thugs and lunatics running around planning their worst, Sarah is the ONE I would place my confidence in. She sees these problems coming a mile out and computes on the fly what can and should be done about it all the while 'keeping her powder dry'. She is my kind of hero. A sort of George Washington and Dolly Madison all rolled into one. And her persona is a tribute to the Frontier Women of the US and Canada. Truly a Steel Magnolia.
Has it not been said that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world? From our mouths to God's ear.
