and even stranger the way they report this , as it is the beginning of summer in Peru.

the reporters are more clueless every day .

Kate

I couldn't read any further than this paragraph:

In a world growing ever hotter, Huancavelica is an anomaly. These communities, living at the edge of what is possible, face extinction because of increasingly cold conditions in their own microclimate, which may have been altered by the rapid melting of the glaciers.

I feel ill...

Posted by: syncrodox at January 3, 2010 8:38 PM

It actually gets worse, the further you read. When the last light goes off in the last newsroom on earth, citizens will flood into the streets to celebrate their passing.

Posted by: Kate at January 3, 2010 8:43 PM

I, for one, hope I get to see that day, Kate. The sooner the better....

Posted by: Altaguy at January 3, 2010 8:52 PM

Not only the lies of "journalists", but even the sick and dying must serve the revolution.

Posted by: Sgt Lejaune at January 3, 2010 8:53 PM

The death of a few Peruvians - no biggie if it serves to somehow further the Globull Warming scam.

Posted by: Slim at January 3, 2010 8:56 PM

I was going to do a post on that, based simply upon the sensational title.

But as I read the article, I was like, "here we go again with the propaganda, the lies...".

Nixed the idea of a post. It's like I picked up something interesting on the beach and then noticed that it had something disgusting on the other side, which made me drop it and clean off my hands.

Posted by: Canadian Sentinel at January 3, 2010 8:58 PM

Reading the article was much like reading an article on the Pravda website, by the way...

Posted by: Canadian Sentinel at January 3, 2010 9:05 PM

2nd last paragraph @ the guardian...

"Religion is still a strong sedative in these communities, but although the first reaction to what they are facing might be fatalism – the feeling that they are in God's hands – we are starting to see a change.

and for what change? to embrace Gore as their new Pope? or the left in general? good luck with that.

Posted by: marc in calgary at January 3, 2010 9:10 PM

I read the rest....where to begin?

Syncro

Posted by: syncrodox at January 3, 2010 9:10 PM

at this rate all those keyboards are going to freeze up to the point the warmists aren't going to be able to type in the word 'anomaly'.

Posted by: curious_george at January 3, 2010 9:13 PM

So...do I have this correct? Even people freezing to death is caused by the planet warming and glaciers melting. Sounds about right to me if you live in a make-believe world and refuse to accept facts! Goes to show that you can put any twist on anything if you are inclined to do that. Why are so many people fooled by all this? Are they too lazy to think for themselves? I expect that is what is meant by the term "Sheeples". It is infuriating to read this every day.

Posted by: PistonBroke at January 3, 2010 9:20 PM

And tonight CPAC (Canada's cable TV one) is having a show on AGW (and not climate change) called something like Past The Melting Point.

Posted by: andycanuck at January 3, 2010 9:23 PM

*sigh*

How many time do I have to explain it?

Record high temperatures of any sort are PROOF POSITIVE that anthropogenic, Carbon dioxide fueled global warming climate change is HAPPENING.

Odd stray cool or cold events are local weather phenomena, not climate change, and, if uncommon, a result of the overall AGW climate changes.

The tragedy is upon us--it is too late to build the nuclear power plants and coal burners and to provide the petroleum supplies that might have gotten us through what ever we are faced with.

With the Sun in repose, we blew our chance to provide alternative energy sources that are not toy windmills and such.

And I'm guessing that the silted up hydro plants will be frozen, so it doesn't much matter that they are worn out.

Pay no attention to the Marxist plot behind the IPCC ... this is nothing more than a lot of altruistic elitists saving the world for us ingrates.

However, the foot soldiers running around Copenhagen and elsewhere looking like 60s hippy wannabes with signs that read "Death To Capitalism" is a bit hard to ignore.

Question:
At what point did the media realize they could spin bold-faced lies, on any topic, and get away with it?

Answer:
When Willy Clinton did it, and got away with it - with his fly opened. The media was also on it's knees. The method justifies the agenda.

Keep sighing Larry .... if there actually is a disaster awaiting us in the future we can enjoy the challenge and have some fun packing rations and flashlights and stuff.

With all the successful disaster movies pumping out of Hollywood in recent years, I think people are ready for the real life experience.

I know how hard it is for you who knows so much about the future to try to scare us all our of our SUV's and heated homes, but hey ... maybe that's just your cross to bear. Think Karma Lare ... you are earning your carbon credits by the long suffering you do for Gaia. I'd think every sight is worth at least a ton.

I can personally predict anything but the future, so guys like you are needed.

Cold? That's not "cold". Its ratherrrrr... a lack of heat - yes - that's it! A lack of heat.

Snow? Why my dear mistaken man! That's not snow. Ratheeerrrrr - its ....yes!....I know - they're fluffy cotton balls.

There then - that explains it.

By the way: Larry was joking, right?

Larry's mother's basement door was frozen shut, so he just couldn't help him self, he had to post just for something to do, I hope I have that right, as no one could actually be that stupid, could they?

Posted by: GYM at January 4, 2010 12:15 AM

I'm pretty sure 'Larry' was being ironic with that first sentence. The latter part of his comment makes it pretty obvious he's clear on the concept.

Posted by: DaninVan at January 4, 2010 1:01 AM

Ah, another "it's cold somewhere so that proves there ain't no global warmin'!" post.

Basic science: global warming causes extreme weather - including such 'anomalies' as is referenced here.

These types of posts don't really do credit to the point you're attempting to make.

Posted by: marquis at January 4, 2010 1:37 AM

"Basic science"???

How many conferences on Global warming have to be canceled because of record lows before these donkeys get it?
By now I would figure the odds of so many falling to this fate has to be almost absurd.
This many disasters for the AGW People ought to make em wonder if Someone is having a laugh at their expense.
The Press have exposed themselves as so many loons who will write anything for Money. Paid Gossips.

Posted by: Revnant Dream at January 4, 2010 2:18 AM

Marquis - no, that's not the point. We're just saying we're amused/disgusted that for years, every heat wave, destructive hurricane, tornado outbreak, flood, and mild winter was a clear symptom of AGW - and now that none of those things have been happening much, the fact it's cold somewhere (almost everywhere just now), is also a symptom of AGW.

Since you're a master of "basic science" (if not grammar), please tell us what would be evidence that there's no global warming? Lack of "extreme weather"? Care to define that? And tell us, so ignorant of "basic science," how the Little Ice Age was remarkable for its lack of "extreme weather," while the Medieval Warm Period is known for its extremes.

Posted by: PabloNH at January 4, 2010 2:43 AM

Canadian Sentinel: Pravda is the template.

Posted by: Gord Tulk at January 4, 2010 3:11 AM

Jaw dropping dumb denial. This gal makes me think of a 1968 Camero with wide summer tires going into a sharp turn, at 90 mph, on a road layered with black ice. This AGW thingie is going to crash and burn. An easily spun line from 6 months ago (like a Camero on dry pavement) will not work now that 'conditions' have changed.

You got it absolutly correct, Ron in kelowna.

We just got 33 inches of "Gore's Dandruff" yesterday.

Posted by: tim in vermont at January 4, 2010 6:24 AM

Marquis: "Basic science" would suggest that it is SUMMER in Peru, If they are freezing to death now, how cold will it be this winter?

Posted by: BDFT at January 4, 2010 6:42 AM

Well there you have it, eh. Frost in Florida. I mean, that just proves this whole global warming, whoops, sorry, I mean climate change thing, doesn't it?

I mean, if you hadn't started laughing at our hockey stick graph so quickly, we'd have put a few small dips and dives in it to prove that we anticipated this little blip.

Someone who actually knows something about this whole mess, Dr. Neil Frank, who headed the National Hurricane Center, before Al Gore knew everything about getting rich over fake weather, had an article yesterday summing up the Climategate nonsense and also information about the buried skeptics.

I reproduced it on my own blog here.

Larry,
Maybe you need to take another look (or a first look) at this list of 450 peer reviewed skeptical articles. I know using your critical thinking skills is just so hard.........

http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/11/15/reference-450-skeptical-peer-reviewed-papers/#comments

Posted by: Sue C. at January 4, 2010 9:08 AM

Also, for the record, for the umpteenth time, skepticism about the extent of the human role in climate change does NOT mean skepticism about the basic FACT of climate changing. Why is that so hard for people to figure out? Since I can't quite believe people are that stupid, the answer has to be that the changes we are supposed to be gearing up for are not, and have never actually been, about climate change in the first place. It just feels like we are in an endless circular argument with the most annoyingly obtuse opponents (or is that just me?)

Posted by: Sue C. at January 4, 2010 9:15 AM

Funny to see the "progressive, edgy, cosmopolitan, world class" journalists of The Guardian so hopelessly far behind the curve here.

Train has left the station already, these guys aren't even running to catch up. They're still in the bar, haven't noticed anything different yet.

Keep drinking boys, maybe the bartender will give you a job washing dishes when your paper goes bust.

Sue C. said: "It just feels like we are in an endless circular argument with the most annoyingly obtuse opponents (or is that just me?)"

No, it isn't just you Sue. The problem you have noticed is that we as a society are assuming the Global Warmers and associated idiots are reasonable, responsible human beings like us, who value the truth and mean what they say. We're all on the same side, just trying to make a better world right?

Right?

It is only when you question that assumption, when you reluctantly consider the possibility that they HATE you with an all consuming fury, they're the enemies of all you consider good and want you in a concentration camp, their behavior becomes sensible.

Bummer.

Posted by: The Phantom at January 4, 2010 9:43 AM

Hmmm.....o.k. now I get it. All relates back to the angst of living in a developed world, stuff like that. Maybe the measures we are talking about taking will do nothing to alter the climate, but they'll sure go a long way towards alleviating some of the guilt.

Posted by: Sue C. at January 4, 2010 1:52 PM

From the article-" increasingly cold conditions in their own microclimate, which may have been altered by the rapid melting of the glaciers."... I don't think that I understand 'basic science',but if a melting glacier made the temperature drop, wouldn't the glacier then stop melting? I suppose to really understand these scientific anomalies,a year or two at a liberal arts college is required, sigh.

Posted by: wallyj at January 4, 2010 6:36 PM

'"When you energize the atmosphere, you cause more extremes. The physics of that are very clear." -
David Phillips, senior climatologist, Environment Canada

Human induced global warming will not produce a uniform temperature rise everywhere - instead, it will force a fundamental change in the way the world's weather works.

One of the expected features of climate change is an increase in extreme weather events. Both computer models and recent observations agree that they are already on the rise, and promise to get worse.

The earth's weather machine is like an engine, driven by heat, which moves energy around the planet. In general, hot air and water masses from the tropics migrate toward the poles, bringing warmth to higher latitudes and generating weather as they move. Cold air and ocean currents flow back toward the equator, completing the cycle.'

It's enough that you folk are anti-Christian. Must you also be anti-science?

Posted by: marquis at January 4, 2010 9:03 PM

"It's enough that you folk are anti-Christian. Must you also be anti-science?" - marquis

Not anti-science, marquis, but we are literate. How much reading about how these so-called scientists have "cooked the books" on their so-called scientific research does one have to ignore and still believe the myth of Anthropogenic Global Warming, or any Global Warming???

Posted by: Dave in Pa at January 4, 2010 10:15 PM

Marquis - I asked a few simple, specific questions, which went unanswered - beyond an amorphous quote from a climatocrat. Care to elaborate?

Posted by: PabloNH at January 4, 2010 11:10 PM

Non of the IPCC models forecast that global average temperature would remain stable for the last decade. The whole CAGW hypothesis has now been falsified, so time government spent some money helping people around the world stay warm.

The posted article is a travesty of the truth!
