In The Immortal Words Of Tasnim Aslam

"Anyone who describes Islam as a religion as intolerant encourages violence".*

Danish police on Friday shot and wounded a man trying to enter the home of an artist who drew controversial cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.

The man, a 27-year-old Somalian who was armed with an axe, was caught trying to break into the home of Kurt Westergaard at 10pm local time, police said.

The leg! ... they shot him in the leg! What a wasted opportunity.

Posted by: Abe Froman at January 2, 2010 7:45 PM

Are you encouraging violence here? It really seems to me like you are implying the 'religion of peace' is violent, or something. That kind of behaviour only forces the poor peacefull jihadis to kill people, you know.

Posted by: enkidu at January 2, 2010 7:50 PM

So by extension anyone who describes rape as a violent crime encourages rape just as anyone who describes murder as a violent crime encourages murder. It is indeed difficult for non Muslims to grasp the logic.

Posted by: Alain at January 2, 2010 7:50 PM

I concur with Abe's assessment. A truly wasted opportunity.

It's those wee little 9mm's that are the problem.

Now a 45acp could have done the job better, and would limit court costs

Posted by: robins111 at January 2, 2010 8:11 PM

I'd read elsewhere that the greens may have to embrace these sort of axe attacks as moving away from gun powder / explosives and into a more sustainable / green death warrant.

on that note, I don't like the Taser as a weapon to subdue either, I agree with shooting them in the legs, both in Denmark and here in Canada.

Posted by: marc in calgary at January 2, 2010 8:15 PM

I assume that if he was hit in the leg it was a bad shot. You always aim for "the center of the visible mass"

Posted by: minuteman at January 2, 2010 8:29 PM

Political correctness: "the Somali".

"The Somali" is a murderous Muslim.

How to make Yrup a safe place? Ayup.

BTW, the panic room is an axe-free zone.

...-
"How to Make Europe A Safe Place For Cartoonists Once More"

[...]

"When the Somali, who had forced his way into the house by smashing a window, was trying to axe his way into the panic room, Kurt alarmed the police, who arrived a few minutes later and shot the intruder."

Posted by: maz2 at January 2, 2010 8:31 PM

With an axe and a knife entering another's home, which would suggest that the Somali citizen evidently didn't find the Mo'toons humorous.

The question then presents itself, is it reasonable to engage in violence when one is 'offended'?

I get offended by some annoyance everyday but I don't usually find it necessary to kill somebody; regardless of whether one has the ability to do so.

But hey when you have an ideological axe to grind, I gather it is no holds barred according to their lexicon...

If you're open to different music’s, a Canadian-Somali rapper named K'naan has one if not the best Hip Hop albums of the year(my inspirational album of 09). Some (if not most) immigrants have a more reasonable perspective on life, freedom and life back home. I recommend going to Itunes and downloading either: #8 "Somalia" or even better #14 "People Like Me" from the album "Troubadour" by K'naan. It will likely be the best $2.00 you spend this year.

Remember, don’t forget to LISTEN before you judge.

The way laws are in the following countries, the results of having someone armed with an axe break into your home to try to kill you, if you killed him first, the results would be:

USA: Ticket tape parade with much partying

Canada: You would probably be charged with one or more of the following offences:
-excessive use of force
-Assault with a deadly weapon
-Manslaughter
-Wreckless endangerment
-Speeding (WTF-that would make as much sense as any of the above!!!)

T, I wonder how tolerant you will be when one of these radical extremist jihads Muslim murderers (yes that is what they are - no euphemisms can make the truth go away) raise their dagger to cut off your head, if you are lucky that is. They tend to use be-headings as training opportunities for their 12 - 14 year old converts whom they teach to sing dedications to Allah while giving them hands on experience in cutting through the neck of a live person with a pocket knife. This is after they rape your wife and girlfriend multiple times in front of you - dispose of her through a nice clean beheading then use you as a teaching tool for the young Jihads in training. Plenty of videos on-line to show you how it works T - if you can bear to watch them til the end - very very gruesome. You live in a fantasy land, like there are no truly evil people and labels such as radical, extremists, terrorist or murder are just cruel and mean - who cares about the truth - right T. Danish cops must've went to the Danny Glover School of Criminal Justice. "Shoot em in the leg."

I'm still trying to figure out the cartoon. It's considered blasphemy for muslims to depict the prophet (pig shit be upon him). So how did they know the guy in the cartoon was Muhammed (flushed koran shreds be upon him)? It could be any Arab or Persian. They're committing blasphemy by even acknowledging the likeness to BE Muhammed (dog urine be upon him).

There has never been a group of people more worthy of being conquered and subjugated than muslims. They've posed a danger to the world since the 7th century and haven't stopped causing trouble in every part of the world.

Though I would volunteer to knee-cap him/her.

Sorry, Gord, it won't work that way. The knicker-bomber committed his crime within US territory, and is therefore subject to US criminal law (with all the protections thereof, as well).
The problematic souls residing at Guantanamo attacked US military forces outside of US territory, so they are not criminals in that sense.
Had they worn military uniforms identifying them as enemy combatants they would have been straightforward prisoners of war, with all the rights and protections afforded by the Geneva Convention. But since they were wearing civvies, they are in limbo: not subject to criminal law, not entitled to Geneva status. That's what makes them problematic.
They could have been tried by court martial on the spot and shot. That might just possibly have been more legal than stashing them at Guantanamo.
Interesting situation, eh?

Maybe you should have a good sobering read about the Muslims in Turkey who performed absolutely heinous crimes against three men who were guilty of holding nothing more than Saturday morning Bible studies.
These 5 guys cut out these men's tongues with knives, then cut off their genitals, stabbed them of over 150 times each and then disemboweled them while they were still alive. They finally, mercifully slit their throats so severely that they were almost decapitated.

This from the "religion of peace"!

Fair enough Larben, still for $1 you should check it out. Rap is a great vehicle for people to express thier views. It is the only place I'm aware of that men are free to speak about issues important to them(right or wrong). In the 90's Chuck D from Public Enemy said that rap music is the "blackman's CNN". I'd just add that rap speaks to many men's issues regardless of race. You may disagree with an artist's point of view as I often do, but at least there is still a venue that is immune from political correctness.
Finally, if mainstream society would listen to what young men had to say instead of belittling and shitting(not you) on the POV of two generations of men, perhaps we could make progress many social issues that rap often dives into. Hip Hop is a culture for millions of men in N.America and it would be a good thing if the haters would at least show a little respect(not you) . Keep in mind that most people born later than the mid 80's don't have such strong biases towards rap or rock. Most in this group like all good music regardless of gendre.
Finally, I’m no Democrat, socialist or whatever, but; I must say that B.Obama’s “Hip Hop Inauguration” actually made me feel like part of the celebration, and I’m Canadian. Had the GOP invited Jay-Z or say Lauren Hill to perform at GWB’s inauguration, blacks, minorities and youth demographics might have identified alittle more with them. Food for thought I guess.

Wayne

Interesting is right!
Where it all gets messy is bringing back criminals that committed crimes in other countries, like killing American and Canadian soldiers that are there at the behest of a foreign government (i.e. Afghanistan). It’s the inconsistency with the Obama administration that really clouds the issue. All things being equal, if I accept your premise, then it is fallacy to try criminal terrorists that committed their crimes abroad in America. Furthermore, if BO was consistent he would realize that not letting said countries prosecute the criminals in their jurisdiction is the very patronizing behaviour that BO claims to loathe.
I’d imagine this isn’t too far off your POV.

Posted by: Indiana Homez at January 2, 2010 11:51 PM

Actually Wayne, Hugh hewitt - a radio host whose fulltime job is teaching and practisong paw and who worked with Nixon and with one of the us supremes and others think that the terrorist should not even have been mirandized from the get go. I think your confusing vitriol for taste there. Rap is the new disco. It's loud dance beats with stupid fashion. Unfortunately it seems to have become a lifestyle for some people. People who live in Canada, have English as a first language but can't actually speak English.

You know I just might change my attitude if someone would pull up in front of my house at 3am with the stereo blasting playing anything other than rap.

Posted by: gord at January 3, 2010 12:46 AM

Rap, as a musical expression, has some great and amazing artistic merit, but it is all the "gangsta" attitude and all it's baggage that is beyond my tolerance threshold. The bling, the Hummers, the "booty" shakin' by all the "ho's" in all the vids is nothing but eye porn and has so little to do with what is of any lasting value in our culture.

Great dancers, great beat and lyrically brilliant(almost never...-cop killing and all). Just waiting for the dynamics to change to something with a lot more gravity.

I guess if the Danish cartoonist was drawing his piece today, he would have to depict the prophet with a bomb in his undies.

As an side, where was the logic for the undie bomber? He spent a great deal of time in the aircraft toilet presumably scrubbing and polishing his package for his upcoming rendezvous with heavenly virgins. Then he returned to his seat and tried to blow up said package.

I'll never understand muzzies but I can't help but think that if they weren't so sexually repressed, there would be a lot less trouble in the world. Young muzzie males would understand that automobiles offer possibilities infinitely more interesting than serving as bomb transporters.

At the risk of getting technical.....
The vast adoption of 9MM is not any accident.
The US military adopted the 45ACP because some beaurocrat thought 38SW was a good idea....that didn't work out well. The US Army was losing officers, so armed right left and centre, re-issued the Colt SA in 45 and the problem was solved.
During the later 20th century, the 45ACP's limitations were finaly realized and the Beretta Model 9 became standard issue. The problem was that the users were literally afraid of it....and usually missed.
The standard assassin pistol is usually .22 rimfire because it is quiet, easilly silenced and permits precise shot placement.
9mm is a compromise....more lethal than a .22 and permitting better shot placement than the 45ACP for a variety of reasons.
9mm are also lighter and more compact, and thoroughly developed....in the case of Danish Police usually a Walter #1 (P38 with an alloy slide).
The adoption of 10mm(.40SW) by NA police represents an excellant compromise between 9mm parabellum and the massive 45ACP.
While the 45ACP is capable of commendable accuracy, training competant users is problematic...a huge consideration.
The hand and leg hits are the result of Police ROE....and indication a marksmanship. This was deliberate incapacitation without risking life-threatening wounds....a political problem....although a corpse cannot be interrogated.

Sasquatch- That's a good assessment of one aspect of weapon development. The other aspect is political/economic. Weapons of war are often chosen according to which manufacturer is willing to shell out the most goodies, to those doing the selection.

I own, or have owned, every one of the weapons you mentioned. Any one of them can do the job. The original, full load, 10mm auto is the best combat round ever produced. Next is the 357 magnum, then the 45 auto, then the 40 S&W, then the rest. The 9mm is the Toyota Corolla of the bunch. Reliable, simple, and adequate. I left out the 44 magnum, because it's a bit too big for police work.

"The knicker-bomber committed his crime within US territory, and is therefore subject to US criminal law."

So if, say for some crazy reason, Canada declares war on the US, any Canuck troops caught on American soil will be read their rights and then make bail? Would British Bobbys have arrested German soldiers if they had been sucessful in invading back in WWII?

I am under the assumption that if a country or entity declares war upon your country then "civilian" rules don't apply.

I am culturally competent with a great deal of sensitivity for other cultures - I do not hate a particular culture - quite the opposite. What I hate is evil- as every man should. Whoever said T is a baiter - I quite agree - he/she disappears when the whats beneath the surface is exposed - namely evil under the guise of culture. How can one who pretends to defend love, goodness and tolerance consent to abominable evil and pretend their conscience is clear?

$10? Come on Kathy, surely you could offer more than that, but what's it got to do with the conversation. White men can't dance. Catholic girls start much too late. Depends on whose saying what. Bet they're black or Jewish who wrote that!
