"Amending Executive Order 12425"

Andy McCarthy;

One week ago, President Obama quietly signed an executive order that makes [INTERPOL] immune from the restraints of American law.

[...]

Interpol's property and assets are no longer subject to search and confiscation, and its archives are now considered inviolable. This international police force (whose U.S. headquarters is in the Justice Department in Washington) will be unrestrained by the U.S. Constitution and American law while it operates in the United States and affects both Americans and American interests outside the United States.

Interpol works closely with international tribunals (such as the International Criminal Court — which the United States has refused to join because of its sovereignty surrendering provisions, though top Obama officials want us in it). It also works closely with foreign courts and law-enforcement authorities (such as those in Europe that are investigating former Bush administration officials for purported war crimes — i.e., for actions taken in America's defense).

Why would we elevate an international police force above American law? Why would we immunize an international police force from the limitations that constrain the FBI and other American law-enforcement agencies? Why is it suddenly necessary to have, within the Justice Department, a repository for stashing government files which, therefore, will be beyond the ability of Congress, American law-enforcement, the media, and the American people to scrutinize?

More at Threatswatch;

For an added and disturbing wrinkle, INTERPOL's central operations office in the United States is within our own Justice Department offices. They are American law enforcement officers working under the aegis of INTERPOL within our own Justice Department. That they now operate with full diplomatic immunity and with "inviolable archives" from within our own buildings should send red flags soaring into the clouds.

[...]

Ultimately, a detailed verbal explanation is due the American public from the President of the United States detailing why an international law enforcement arm assisting a court we are not a signatory to has been elevated above our Constitution upon our soil.

Is there nothing that Obama can't do?

You are right there is nothing Obama can't do. And how about your Harper, Kate? Stating in an interview with CTV that a carbon tax could not be ruled out for Canada as Canada has to wait and see the steps the USA takes and then follow as to have a unified front to address climate change and instability. Harper is coming over to the liberal side more and more every day. Wonderful.

Talk about giving away the farm, this is the start of the slippery slope for sure. To start to give up sovereignty so easily, one has to wonder what was the reason for this "executive order". I am surprised that the Constitution defenders aren't charging the ramparts. Does CSIS get carte blanche in the US too? How about the KGB (or whatever it is called these days)?

Posted by: Texas Canuck at December 23, 2009 9:15 AM

Yes, there is something that POTUS can't do. The will of the people.

He has the will of the overlords to bow to, not the best for the people he was sworn in to serve.

Why not? This current Washington administration has been "unrestrained by the constitution and American law" - why not let foreigners in on the grift.

"In light of what we know and can observe, it is our logical conclusion that President Obama's Executive Order amending President Ronald Reagans' 1983 EO 12425 and placing INTERPOL above the United States Constitution and beyond the legal reach of our own top law enforcement is a precursor to more damaging moves"

Yes,it is a logical conclusion that this is probably the first step in preparing Americans for the fact of "One World Government" which Obama's quiet sponsors favour.

Now, to get the Supreme Court on side.Shouldn't be a problem. Next step is the ICC.

There is NO way in hell US Congress is going to pass any carbon related bill as it needs a 2/3 majority to do so.
Harper knows this and thus feels comfortable in stating his policy.

I'm pretty much open to any and all conspiracy theories regarding obozo from now on. Seriously, why would a president of the United States give up sovereignty like that? What's the point? Or the plan?
And I wonder if his base that loves global governance so much will suddenly realize it means one more police force watching them?
Regarding T's lame attempt at cleverness; Harper played it perfectly - just flannel mouth some comments about carbon so as not to upset the lefties. He knows this lunacy is dying fast and obozo's dithering gives him the perfect strategy.

Well T, we did tell you this was going to happen. We really, really did. And now that it actually -has- happened, you like a typical imbecile are trying to deflect the conversation to cover the fact that you were A) wrong and B) a real d1ck about it. When real people are getting shot by these pricks you'll be pretending its not what you wanted all along. Sorry, you are busted. Again.

Lefty useful idiots were warned, they went ahead anyway, and now The One has his own private INTERPOL force who can do any damn thing they like.

Or rather, they would be able to except for all those pesky GUNS that the stupid low class beer swilling popcorn eating Americans are so in love with. The ones that the DemocRat party has been trying in earnest to get rid of since 1968. The ones that every Canadian politician insists we peasants don't need and shouldn't be allowed to have.

Good luck INTERPOL. I want to see how y'all manage the 3AM boot through the door when the Jews inside have more and bigger weapons than you do. Anybody remember the Warsaw Ghetto? Multiply by 100 million.

This is, in part, because he believes the nonsense in the international press about how much everyone loves him.

France and Germany have a similar attitude regarding the European Union.

Put Andorra in charge of the EU, and we'll start hearing all about French and German sovereignty.

Fill the senior posts at Interpol with Chinamen, and we'll start hearing all about American sovereignty.

Take heart ... Americans are not Canadians .. they value their freedom ... most of them anyway.

"Mark my words friends. All across America groups are forming. They are forming out of anger and out of desperation at the thought of losing America. They're not militia groups, terrorists as the Department of Homeland security would have you believe; they are Americans, loyal to the Constitution.
They are mothers and fathers and grandparents. They belong to groups like the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, the Peaceful Resistance, the Constitution Party, the Young Conservatives, the 9/12 Project, and Grassfire. Right now they are fragmented, each focused on their own cause.
But sometime in the next two years, our government is going to do something really stupid and these groups will come together. Watch for it, wait for it -- get ready. It will happen."

Speaking of oaths, perhaps some of our US visitors could clarify this for us but doesn't the oath of US Service Personell require them to "protect and defend the constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic"? I think they have a great big domestic enemy and I think it's their boss!

Really, this is just another step in the destruction of the US by liberals just as running up the debt to anfathomable proportions is. So now Gitmo detainees have constitutational rights, but Joe law-abiding citizen does not, if pursued by Interpol thought police, nor does the former President and Vice-President, who were acting to defend America. Further, the President has a very effective, bullet-proof repository for anything he or his questionable cohorts don't want the public to see. Obama doesn't just have contempt for the constitution and the founding fathers, but he has contempt for the American people. He is a dangerous man. It's frustrating that lefties still believe that lefty politicians are "nicer" than the right because they care more about the common man, when in fact lefty politicians use big government not to help the common man, but to control him.

Posted by: batb at December 23, 2009 6:18 PM

This is stupid. Not the EO (which might be, but it's not obvious), but the reactions.

INTERPOL is not a police agency. It "works closely with" various governments (and the ICC, sure), but all it does is provide information.

It does not have "officers", and it does not arrest people. It shares information between member governments. It has about 500 employees worldwide and a $59M budget.

It's not a scary one-world-police-state organ. It's a joke as a "police agency" - but that's because it isn't one.

The scary "operatives" in the DOJ who are "working 'for' INTERPOL"? US DOJ employees acting as our liasons to the organizations.

They're no more "immune to prosecution" than the US Ambassador to the UN is.

Seriously, did anyone anywhere on the interwebs do any research before repeating all of this?

There are real potential threats to US sovereignty - INTERPOL isn't one of them.

(And contra some confused commenters above, INTERPOL is as far I can determine structurally unconnected to the ICC, and the ICC has no power over it.

The ThreatWatch people handwaving about "maybe Obama will sign the ICC treaty [and then ask the Senate to ratify] next!!!" is the only source for that belief I can see, and it's purely speculative and has nothing to do with INTERPOL itself.

Remember that one should be skeptical and critical about everything some pundit puts forward, even when it's convenient as a way to be upset at a President you don't like.

This was true in 2004, and it's true now. I didn't vote for Obama and at this rate may never even consider voting for a Democrat again at any level, but this? This is a tempest in a teapot.)

Interpol, whose full name is the International Criminal Police Organization – INTERPOL,[1] is an organization facilitating international police cooperation. It was established as the International Criminal Police Commission in 1923 and adopted its telegraphic address as its common name in 1956.

It has a membership of 188 countries. The organization's headquarters are in Lyon, France. It is the second largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations.

Its current Secretary-General is Ronald Noble, formerly of the United States Treasury. Jackie Selebi, National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, was president from 2004 but resigned on 13 January 2008, later being charged in South Africa on three counts of corruption and one of defeating the course of justice.

Interpol was founded in Austria in 1923 as the International Criminal Police (ICP). Following the Anschluss (Austria's annexation by Nazi Germany) in 1938, the organization fell under the control of Nazi Germany and the Commission's headquarters were eventually moved to Berlin in 1942. It is unclear, however, if and to what extent the ICPC files were used to further the goals of the Nazi regime. However, from 1938 to 1945, the presidents of Interpol included Otto Steinhäusl (a general in the SS), Reinhard Heydrich (a general in the SS, and chair of the Wannsee Conference that appointed Heydrich the chief executor of the "Final solution to the Jewish question"), Arthur Nebe (a general in the SS, and Einsatzgruppen leader, under whose command at least 46,000 people were killed), and Ernst Kaltenbrunner (a general in the SS, the highest ranking SS officer executed after the Nuremberg Trial).

So what does the most powerful international police force do?

Does INTERPOL track political corruption?

No, their charter forbids it.

Does INTERPOL stop military corruption?

No, their charter forbids it.

Does INTERPOL stop religious corruption?

No, their charter forbids it.

OK, does INTERPOL focus on murder?

Well, no.

So what does INTERPOL focus on?

Well, turns out they focus on "intellectual property crime" and money laundering by non-government, non-military, non-religious serfs, I mean people.

So the most powerful international police force on the planet cares about catching kids who download MP3s not military cabals that cheat in elections.

And they used to be run by the NAZIs.

That's just the sort of people we can trust, right?

Uh huh. Source?

Furthermore even assuming you're right, so what? They can't hire more guys? Get a bigger budget? They would never do that, we can trust you?

Barry just gave these guys immunity from prosecution, carte blanch powers of arrest, search, seizure and surveillance (that means they can do -anything-) AND protected their records and communications from public scrutiny. Powers and protections the FBI, CIA don't have, can't get under the Constitution and probably have wet dreams over.

That's all needed for a an outfit with 500 guys and a $59 mil budget... why?

From http://www.justice.gov/oig/reports/plus/a0935/final.pdf

In 2008, INTERPOL’s total statutory budget was approximately $64.1 million and the United States’ contribution to INTERPOL was $8.5 million.

In FY 2008, INTERPOL had a staff of 588, representing 84 countries. In addition to 398 contract employees, INTERPOL also had 190 seconded staff from member countries.

It does appear to be rather powerful for an organization slightly under 1100 people worldwide.

Posted by: Brent Weston at December 23, 2009 8:34 PM

er, slightly under 1200

Google = Interpol Operations

Now it seems that INTERPOL is a favorite of the UN... which in itself should raise some interest in anyone even remotely interested in the arena of international scams and fraud.

However...

Ronald Reagan signed the thing into being in 1983.

As far as I can tell the order already protected INTERPOL and other agencies under The International Organizations Act.
Barry's ammendment has to do with syntax in the document which is:

"...except those provided by Section 2(c), the portions of Section 2(d) and Section 3 relating to customs duties and federal internal-revenue importation taxes, Section 4, Section 5, and Section 6 of that Act. This designation is not intended to abridge in any respect the privileges, exemptions or immunities which such organization may have acquired or may acquire by international agreement or by Congressional action."

CSIS has been keeping secret files on Canadians for decades. The FOIA doesn't give you any info, all you get is blacked out documents. Obama and Harper are PUPPETS of the New World Order, and America and Canada are going DOWN!

This is twice now I've seen this comment. Just because something was signed into law by Ronald Regan does not make it a good idea.

Ronald Regan and George W. Bush were conservatives BY CONTRAST to Bill Clinton and the odious peanut farmer. Looked at in a smaller frame they were both big government presidents.

Furthermore I very much doubt that what Barry just signed is the same thing Ronald Regan signed. If I'm wrong I'm wrong, but that's my opinion.

I don't like big government. It is cowardly, stupid and dangerous to give power over your life and liberty to police organizations. Also just plain expensive, and even given the most honest and well meaning leadership in the world, inefficient.

Freedom is safer, cheaper and better. I'd like some more of it please, and right fricking smartly.

I really doubt The President has the authority to do that. The state governments can refuse. The president's office exists at the pleasure of the individual states and I believe if 35 states agree, they can bring down the president. This would be far more serious than impeachment, it would be treason.

The keepers of the constitution are the state governments, not the federal government and I believe BO's days are numbered.

“America is at that awkward stage. It’s too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards.”

........ those are the opening lines of “101 Things To Do ‘Til The Revolution” by Claire Wolfe.
