Afstan: "I'm with Platt"

Damian Brooks, that is. Best analysis of the detainee hoo-ha you'll see.

You might also listen to Terry Glavin, just back from the Sandbox, on Rob Breakenridge at AM 770 CHQR, Calgary, Dec. 9.

So sick of the media and opposition focusing anally on this topic.

Thanks for the links.

If this crap is causing the opposition so much grief they should get together and bring down the government. Let the people of Canada tell the opposition to STFU once and for all.

No, let the CONs keep on lying about not being informed, and let Weepy Pete, Uniform Fetishist Baird and Dear Fat Leader keep wraping themselves in the flag and hiding behind the soldiers...once again proving that a CON will never accept responsibility for any mistake they make.

I'm aware and really don't care, unfortunately, it's not enough to be a statistic (Stalin) ... in the immortal of Rhett Butler ...

Canadians were taking Taliban prisoners and turning them over to the Afghans when Critien was in Power. Why wasn't a process/procedure implemented then? Why not when Martin was PM?
It's interesting that the CAF is using the detection of ammo residue to determine if a prisoner should be kept for interrogation. Gee; I don't know how all that gunpowder residue got on me: I was only an ammunition runner/loader/gunner.
An innocent guy working in the fields when the firefight took place will not have residue on his clothing, in his hair, or on his skin (unless he's in the middle of it).
And everyone in Stoney Mountain is innocent: just ask them. And every Taliban Jihadist was tortured: just ask them.

the canadian MSM has their attraction for the week.

CTVtass even had a picture of Iggy today. I thought he was checking out the real estate around Harvard.

Yep, it's hoo-ha alright....

Posted by: Soccermom at December 11, 2009 2:28 AM

ulianov

There was no mistake made by the Cons...it just took time to clean up the mess they were left with in Afganistan by the inept Liberals...who put us there with NO vote in the house!

Sounds like you are on the side of the Taliban scumbag killers too hey! Most TRUE Canadians can see through the oppositions motives. Hugging the Taliban and accusing our soldiers of aiding torture will just give Harper a bigger majority in the next election.

Posted by: Al W at December 11, 2009 2:39 AM

Al W:

Nice way to change the subject...I see you are following the CONs official talking points. Don't wrap yourself too tightly in the flag, you may suffocate.

Posted by: ulianov at December 11, 2009 3:48 AM

Well no Uli...the subject actually is about the treatment of non uniformed men who are targetting our soldiers.
Try to keep up buddy.
Like Al W said...it's about what true Canadians care about.

If the Afghan detainees are all the opposition in our HOC have to concern themselves with we really need to take them to the people to decide what's important. It would make more sense than having an inquiry to prolong their latest gotcha attempt at great expense to achieve nothing.

They will find out smearing our troops to get at the government doesn't fly. The Liberals under Chretien sent them to war without debate in the HOC and without even proper uniforms or equipment, they even had to borrow pots to cook their food in. Now they're all worried about a detainee Taliban killer who was beaten with a shoe.

The Bloc and Dippers didn't want to fight for the rights of Afghans and against terrorism in the first place, they want to pull out now,and leave the Afghan population in the hands of Taliban abusers of women, stone them to death, throw acid in the faces of young girls trying to go to school and other atrocities.

It's nothing but politics of the inane on the Hill, playing this latest gotcha game on the backs of our troops and disgracing this country around the world, playing into the hands of the Taliban who have to be laughing.

Liz J excellent!
And the MSM feed the frenzy.

Posted by: bluetech at December 11, 2009 8:52 AM

No, bluetech, the subject is about the CONS lying that they did not know about Canadian captured prisoners being turned over to be tortured. IF they are not lying, then they are incompetent for not knowing what was going on.

Posted by: ulianov at December 11, 2009 10:31 AM

What is the alternative to turning detainees over to the Afghans?
Should we create a "Gitmo North" on Bonaventure Island and then have the likes of ulianov whining and puling about that too?

Maybe we shouldn't be taking prisoners...

Posted by: Oz at December 11, 2009 10:41 AM

The brains that will pick Bob Rae next think this has traction. The General I heard interviewed stated they captured someone during a battle. They turned him over to the command of the mission..the Afghans. They removed the prisoner when it was learned he was abused and turned him over to other Afghanis with the Americans. I don't know, it doesn't sound like they did too bad. I don't see this as having legs as much as being a boomarang.

Posted by: Speedy at December 11, 2009 10:43 AM

Lame stream media never reports one fact, our troops were following the ROEs laid down by NATO regarding detainees. Our troops did nothing wrong, nor did NATO but MSM never points out that fact they'd rather do a drivebye smear of the troops in hope of aiding their beloved Liberal Party. CTV, CBC and the lot of them are banned from my household.

And politicians breaking laws here, too, re. the Afghan file:

...the Liberal ones, that is.

bluetech, don't even try to explain to the weak minded.
