The Copenhagen March (to the tune of “North Atlantic Squadron”)
In Copenhagen’s cobbled streets,
The shysters and the shamans meet
To practice lies and more deceit
In the name of Global Warming
Chorus
Away, away with fife and drum
For here we come
With frozen bums,
We’ll smoke some dope and pray to the Sun
In the name of Global Warming
The winds rise up and snow comes down.
But not in Copenhagen Town,
Where Bambi fries and babies drown
Because of Global Warming
Chorus
Suzuki, Gore and Soros went,
Hoping for new providence.
Obama’s praise was heaven-sent,
“You must stop Global Warming.”
Chorus
With caviar and limousines,
Jet engines burning kerosene,
All necessary so it seems
To stop this Global Warming
Chorus
In Anglia a web was spun
The tangled strands have come undone
And trapped the bugs who’ve had their fun
And lied for Global Warming
Chorus
When all is said and nothing done
The earth still turns below the sun
And melting goes and freezing comes
We’ll wish for Global Warming.
Deserving of a standing ovation. Bravo!

Posted by: shaken at December 16, 2009 7:44 AMLast time I hummed that tune I was in the back of a deuce & half somewhere in the boonies of Petawawa. Fond memories :)
Excellent new rendition, so apropos for our bizarre times.
Posted by: Fred at December 16, 2009 8:29 AMA bute! To the tune of "The Good Ship Venus" I expect. It brought back fond memories.

Posted by: Black Mamba at December 16, 2009 8:40 AMGreat poem Jamie. A good marching song - but I do not think we'll hear them singing that one in the streets of Copenhagen these days.
Something tells me that those readers who enjoyed this poem would like to leave a comment on the CBC website. The host is at it again, having had too many drinks of the AGW koolaid.

That song reminds me of a navy port visit to Bermuda back in the 80's. A couple of buddies and I walked into a pub in which dozens of kippers (Brit sailors) were raising the roof in song as only the kippers can do. When we walked in, they literally stopped and looked at us. It was just like in an old western. One of them said, before returning to singing, that if we wanted to stay we'd have to sing a song. Not well versed in many songs, we quickly started into a few frightened verses of North Atlantic Squadron. They all stopped to listen and when we were done, gave us a hearty applause and welcomed us into their mix. Interestingly, one kipper came up to us and said that had we been Yanks instead of colonials, it wouldn't have been pretty.

Yes, DrD. (I got the lyrics to your song, I think at the Mudcat Cafe, while looking for the lyrics to NA Squadron.)
Here's a "clean" version of the song that will let people not in the know hear the melody.

[A crappy vid--the actual music starts at about 30 seconds in.]
Best one so far! Who knew Glengarry boasted its very own Shakespeare?
Posted by: Sarah at December 17, 2009 3:02 PMLoved this. Had to find the song on Youtube so I could sing it out. Still laughing.
