"This is the double game Pakistan is playing."

Via Andy McCarthy;

In effect, Pakistani intelligence is running its own secret war against America, a war bankrolled by the Saudis. These are the Taliban's shadow partners. And they are winning. In effect, we are offering Pakistan-based insurgents 30,000 new targets with no changes in the rules of engagement. Even now, when our troops come under attack, they are not permitted to pursue enemy fighters back across the border and destroy their Pakistani redoubts. Imagine sending troops to France to free the French from the Nazis but failing to take out their Eagle's Nest next door in Germany. Welcome to our war policy today in Afghanistan.

Much more at the link.

The British always said; don't trust an arab or their friends. Nothing has changed.....

For me, this is not news. Good to see it get a public airing, though.

The Americans have to just kill a few ISI when they come across them in cross border "hot-pursuites"

Posted by: RW at December 9, 2009 8:22 PM

No surprise here. ISI is using the U.S to help with a cleanup of its enemies, while training the Taliban and supporting them against Afghanistan. And Saudi Arabs bankroll the Taliban.

It makes sense. Infidels are being used by several Islamic factions to further their agendas.

Meanwhile, back in our Country, the Opposition and the MSM wring their hands over the alleged mistreatment of Taliban POW's.

Sometimes it's hard to believe that the Afghan War will be over in two years, and peace will reign.

Posted by: dmorris at December 9, 2009 8:35 PM

Funny...lots of people have been saying for years that there were links between the ISI, Bin Laden, and the Sept 11 hijackers, and have been ridiculed for it. Now such a notion seems less ridicule worthy.

"Pakistani intelligence is running its own secret war against America, a war bankrolled by the Saudis"

I always said Bush invaded the wrong country after 9/11.

Posted by: The Fly at December 9, 2009 9:06 PM

Well the double dealing is just a minor irritant compared to more pressing problems like the fact that Pakistan is supposed to keep secure the major Nato supply lines running up from its ports to Afghanistan. Has anyone ever noticed that American successes in that part of the world shortly turn to crap after the enemy is defeated and the "suits" in Washington move in to run things into a total mess?

Posted by: Sgt Lejaune at December 9, 2009 9:15 PM

This has been known for years. This is what the war looks like when you've put down your Bush cheerleading pom-poms.

Pssst! Another secret: The Iraq "Surge" was a joke. They paid the terrorists not to attack, so that's why they stopped.

As I have said here before, when a war is a political war fought under political constraints, get out. No war is just enough to sacrifice our men and women for political expediency or politicians.

I say we would all be a lot safer if you came home and shot those that didn’t support you when you were fighting for this Country.

Ken E.,

Agreed. I heard this from a good friend who was in Leopoldville (early 19 oh-60's) as part of Lester B's "Peace Keeping Force (not the UN's, imo). Actually, he said you can't trust the "Gypos". (la meme chose).

Also, a good business friend said the same applies to the chinese (business-wise). Do Not Trust!

Cheers.

Oops! Pardon my computer's stutter. Can't figure it out.

Posted by: Garry at December 9, 2009 9:45 PM

It's time to get tough with the insurgents.
Fighters must wear uniforms to get POW status under the Geneva Convention as prisoners of war.
The rest are spies and face a firing squad or long prison terms.
The war would be won in weeks.
Remember WWII? No, I didn't think so.....
That's why the Taliban will win.

Pussies don't win wars.

My father and brother worked for a roofing outfit in the Vancouver area and were told that they will not even give estimates to Chinese or East Indian house owners; too many bad experiences. (Though, to be fair, that may have been the times, some 15 years
ago)

amerikun administrations have supported pakistan for decades. what do they expect when the support is taken for granted and few strings attached? it's the way things are done over there. this is NOT an obama thing.

Larben..apropos of?...

Apropos of this thread, distrust for wogs and certain sorts that don't want to play by our rules, but want to rule our roosts. Of Ken E's distrust or Arabs and their friends, of Bl@kbird's sarcasm of their veracity,of Garry's distrust of Chinese in business ... need I go further?

The solution is to declare that, since the Pakistani government is unable to enter Quetta (a reasonable defense, btw), Quetta an ungoverned territory: ie, not a sovereign part of Pakistan.

Troops across the border are not, therefore an invasion of Pakistanis sovereignty. If anything they are simply helping Pakistan to one day regain control of its breakaway state.

Posted by: pete e at December 10, 2009 9:05 AM

Both Afghanistan and Pakistan claim ownership of this tribal territory.
Neither country actually governs it.

Pakistan claims to sovereignty over this tribal area amount to giving shelter to the Taliban and al Qaeda.

When Khalid Sheikh Mohammad was making demands for the release of Daniel Pearl one of KSM's demands was that the U.S. expedite delivery of F-16s to Pakistan.
A strange demand in light of the supposition that, if Pakistan were our ally, Pakistan would presumably use the F-16s to bomb and strafe the Taliban and al Qaeda.

The reason ISAF is in Afghanistan is to keep the Taliban from ruling Afghanistan and allowing terrorist train camps to operate there.
Yet there are more than 20 terrorist training camps operating in Pakistan under the direction of the ISI.

When the last ISAF/NATO soldier leaves Afghanistan, the Taliban will again rule inside of 6 months.
Within 5 years after leaving, Afghanistan will return to pre-invasion condition and, except for the dead and maimed, it will be as if we were never there at all.

Yeah well these Yalu River scenarios seem to be a feature of international affairs since 1945.

The ROE for "NATO" (US) aircraft to not cross the Yalu River between korea and Manchuria.
The ROE of not entering Cambodia....

The reality is that the communists did not enjoy impunity north of the Yalu. Several times the Mig bases and ammo dumps north of the river were attacked.
Cambodia was a tenuous sanctuary for the communists....
Currently there has been disclosure of drone/missile attacks into the "tribal areas".
Pakistan officially protests but.....
One thing...visa vis muslims....it is not a sin but in fact virtue/duty to lie to non-muslims to aid and abet other muslims.....
Make no mistake, having these people on our streets is a genuine security risk.
My attending physician at the ER monday had a "student" in tow wearing a head-scarf. WTF???
Wearing that thing is a political statement--endorsing an misoginous ideology which in a sharia state would get her killed for just being literate.....WTF???

"This is what the war looks like when you've put down your Bush cheerleading pom-poms."

No one can ever accuse me of being a Bush cheerleader, However after 9/11 the payback was eminent. It takes a special kind of stupid to invade the wrong countries then run a war like you never intended to win it.

Posted by: the fly at December 10, 2009 10:23 AM

Larben is right, about the prevailing attitude of Canadian born and raised contractors, whatever their race. We (myself, 35 years in contracting) learned from bitter experience that some folks play by an alien set of 'rules'...basically no rules, no ethics, no common ground.
It has nothing to do with race, per se, but rather the culture within which they were raised.
I never felt any obligation to do business with any specific individual, whatever their 'race', WASPs included. It comes down to trust.

The Americans are fighting a war in such a way as to make sure nobody gets hurt. Again. Because they don't want anyone yelling at them for being meanies.

Who do we have to thank for this? Why, the anti-war Left of course. They've gotten more American soldiers killed than the Taliban since 9/11. In fact a case can be made that 9/11 wouldn't have happened at all without the insane policies put in place to keep the anti-war Left quiet.

They seek to destroy us. Maybe we should stop listening to them?
