On the bright side I'm told by reliable sources that Cuban hospitals are world class.
Does the NDP still fund their travel program for NDP youth to visit the socialist paradise, tour a few Potemkin villages and sing some Socialist Internationale songs around the commie campfire ?

Posted by: mark at November 30, 2009 8:30 PMThe Cuban hospitals for non-tourists are no better and possible worse than what we saw in the Ukraine.
At least in the Ukraine they are trying now and have improved considerably since 1990, although people here would be aghast if they would walk into one of the more rural ones and most of the big city ones. Other than occasional coats of paint and minimum maintenance, they have not physically changed since the early 1920s. Most of the medical equipment is the equivalent of our 1960s equipment. Our rural veterinary clinics here look much better.
Doctors make about $300 U.S. and have after hours clinics to supplement their salaries.
Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at November 30, 2009 8:39 PMThat last picture made me sick. Yeah right great hospitals that you wouldn't put your pet in.
I still here from people who went there that never left a compound or when they did. Where shepherded about unknowingly by Cuban rats.
Speak with nothing but praise as their get the Tour. No bums in the visitors path please.

Yeah, and the beaches are the bomb. The ones they let foreigners on, anyway.
Just remember friends, this is what the Dems and Libs of today would really secretly like to bring here to North America.
Too harsh Lefties? Uh huh? Two words fer ya: climate denier. All over the MSM this week, when they mention it at all. What do you when you meet up with a CLIMATE DENIER anyway? The guy is trying to ruin the planet and drown/freeze/broil your children. Obviously he needs a beating.
I seeeeee you.

Posted by: larben at November 30, 2009 9:36 PMI think that photo of a man submitting to cuban healthcare (like he has a choice?) is originally from George's site, www.therealcuba.com
There's plenty of related photos, if you can stomach it.

and as a preemptive strike against any lurking Castro apologists, the USA has never embargoed food or medical sales to Cuba, like anyone with any sense, while dealing with communists they have not extended any credit terms to them... (it's cash only for you Fidel).
Posted by: marc in calgary at November 30, 2009 10:05 PMAs I asked at the Red Star's site re. the Afghan detainee torture stories, but for some stange reason it didn't clear "moderation", so how much time and money has Bob Rae spent in Cuba as a Dipper and as a Grit? Does that make him responsible for this and for the conditions of Castro's prisons?
Posted by: andycanuck at November 30, 2009 10:08 PM...strange... (Doh!)
BTW, funny some mentioning animal hospitals here as I recall reading several years ago that veterinarians treated ordinary Cubans. (In an exposé by two Cuban doctor refugees.)
Posted by: andycanuck at November 30, 2009 10:12 PMI rememeber reading this exact story a couple months ago.
Posted by: allan at November 30, 2009 10:13 PMI guess it's not getting better allan.

Posted by: marc in calgary at November 30, 2009 10:54 PMOur very own Dr. David Suzuki described Cuba as a sustainable agricultura; paradise. he implored the whole world to follow suit and our very own CBCpravda broadcast it as absolute gospel.
Posted by: cal2 at November 30, 2009 11:19 PMThe Castro Brothers island has cheap slaves and nice beaches, it's a liberal paradise.

Posted by: marc in calgary at December 1, 2009 9:40 AMThe beating of Yoani did not make the Globe and Mail, more censoring of the news?
