I posted that for all the Rider fans who were tearing out their hair and screaming "who the #$@% watches horseracing!!!"

That being said....Go Rider Go!

Oops 'Riders'

Posted by: Rednik at November 7, 2009 7:45 PM

Dead last into the first corner, and wins handily. Quite a show.

Posted by: Woodporter at November 7, 2009 7:55 PM

Better cherish that view...
If the anti-establishment types have their way, in December, at Copenhagen----that will be the sports car of the future....that's if ya have the room in your cave.

Posted by: sasquatch at November 7, 2009 7:56 PM

No, they won't. The animal rights zealots will make sure of that.

Posted by: Kate at November 7, 2009 8:24 PM

What A magnificent animal.

Posted by: Revnant Dream at November 7, 2009 8:28 PM

I'd like to see the animal rights zealots come after the rich Arabs who cherish horses and hunting. I wanna see one try. Please!

They're just another class of "useful idiot" who will go under the bus when the real tyrants consolidate power.

Posted by: Monique at November 7, 2009 8:34 PM

Why is this horse wearing socks and why only on the back legs?

Some sort of horsey compression stockings or braces?

Posted by: ChrisinMB at November 7, 2009 8:35 PM

I want a drug test.

Posted by: blanks at November 7, 2009 8:40 PM

What stands out is the sheer effort - in the first quarter of a mile she was bobbing her head like a horse straining and laboring in the home stretch, and she just kept digging. What a magnificent filly.

Posted by: EBD at November 7, 2009 8:41 PM

And I never thought I would see a race to rival this one

What an amazing race! Stunning!

Posted by: Hunter at November 7, 2009 8:46 PM

Can you watch that without becoming misty-eyed?
What a magnificent creature! What HEART!

Posted by: Me No Dhimmi at November 7, 2009 8:56 PM

you would just fail another one blanks, why bother

Posted by: G at November 7, 2009 8:57 PM

blanks, come here and I'll pee in your ear

just have to luv that finish

and what a gorgeous animal she is

Posted by: GYM at November 7, 2009 9:05 PM

And I was rooting for Beetle Bomb.

What a beautiful horse!

Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at November 7, 2009 9:08 PM

EBD - they always run her from last position. She was just loping along waiting for the command to open up that stride. She's 17.2 hands high - a monster.

Posted by: Kate at November 7, 2009 9:26 PM

Well that was one for the ages. Amazing how Smith angled her to the far outside and it almost looked as though he waited too long, but once she was there WOW. Girl power wins the day at Santa Anita.

I love Zenyatta's style as a closer. This race was just priceless. Tks for posting it Kate.

As to the question of a match up between her and Rachel Alexandra;
"Opinions mixed on Zenyatta-Rachel Alexandra"

I'd love to see Zenyatta take that one on dirt.

Posted by: G at November 7, 2009 9:47 PM

Great horse and a great jockey to time the burst as close as he did - such patience.

Posted by: Gord Tulk at November 7, 2009 10:00 PM

Best race I ever saw, looked like a no-hoper, then kazoom. Wow.

My wife asked me why I was watching horse racing. I said "its the Breeders Cup!!". She took one look at Zenyata and sat down to watch the race. She had tears streaming down her face when the race was over. That's why I watch horse racing I said.

Posted by: Rick Rae at November 7, 2009 10:09 PM

First class race horse. That was an amazing race. Thanks for the post.

Posted by: MaryM at November 7, 2009 10:19 PM

Now that my husband has sufficiently embarrassed me..Yes, I did cry, she was/is so beautiful but then I was angry because TSN cut everything off to put the STUPID Football game on...sorry football fans..there are 50 channels for that and I just wanted to see the interviews. Zenyatta is truly awesome!!

Posted by: Ginette Rae at November 7, 2009 11:10 PM

Zenyatta is the female version of Secretariat. His Kentucky Derby win was almost identical to her win today where they were both dead last for a good part of the race only to stun the field in the end. Fantastic!

Posted by: scott at November 7, 2009 11:21 PM

The three best races this year - this one, Mine That Birds Derby win and Rachel Alexandra's wire to wire battle against older males in the Woodward.

As an aside, the Classic narrowly averted a public relations disaster with the near escape of a blindfolded Quality Road during gate loading.

Some track worker out there deserves a big steak dinner tonight , and I hope he got it.

(The horse is ok, by all reports. Superficial cuts.)

Posted by: Kate at November 8, 2009 12:19 AM

Holy smokes, Kate. Kenyatta looked big to me, but I had no idea that she's 17.2 hands.

Years ago I bought a four-year old 17.3 hand thoroughbred who had supposedly been too big to race - alas, he wasn't so big that I couldn't pitch over his head flat onto my back in front of a grandstand. I'm still trying to catch my breath.

On the plus side, he just stood there looking concerned...

Posted by: EBD at November 8, 2009 12:33 AM

Great recovery!

I read the threads from the bottom up so I didn't know how it was going to end, but I had a suspicion ...

Posted by: nv53 at November 8, 2009 12:42 AM

EBD...you win the thread.

Great race. Beautiful horse.

Posted by: Jay Currie at November 8, 2009 3:13 AM

Well, I was actually watching the race because of the pre-race newspaper items I'd been reading about in the paper. And saw the horse that nearly got away. Yes, I know nothing about horses and thought, "that man did an awesome job." Anyway, they were showing the pre-game stuff on TSN2. Thanks to hi def. (And PVR so I could watch the race later, besides on internet.)

Posted by: wendy.g at November 8, 2009 11:01 AM

I watched the race just prior to the start of the Riders game. She is an amazing piece of horse flesh! What a treat watching that.

Great looking horse too.

Posted by: a different bob at November 8, 2009 11:46 AM

I just watched it again paying particular attention to Zenyatta. This lone philly in a field of colts at the beginning of the race seemed to be saying "you boys go on ahead and I'll catch up later".

She did.

Posted by: a different bob at November 8, 2009 11:50 AM

That was simply a very astounding effort to win this race from dead last.

Posted by: Merle Underwood at November 8, 2009 12:53 PM

The heat is on for Rachel Alexandra to PROVE she is the queen filly. After actually watching Zenyatta run, I'm no longer convinced that Rachel is the best horse. The little dance Zenyatta does with her front legs is a kill. She is 100% personality and awesome talent. I hope the Amazon girls get the chance to run against one another. By the way, I'm a Mine that Bird fan, I love the little gelding. He just can't run on synthetic surfaces. Keep him on the dirt Wooley!

Zenyatta in a workout run....

If time is a factor, go in to about 3:20 and experience the world of a jockey on one amazing ride. It does not get any better, than to sense the intensity and power of this mare! Truly amazing...truly!
