QP should be interesting now this is out.

Is this another twist of Adscam type scheme? Liberal freindly contracts with kickback? And where did all the monies Go that went into the Liberal Party?. Maybe Liberals should be asking themselves this, All these big corporate donations before JC changed the rules & left office. a forensic Audit should ordered by Ignatieff.

Posted by: bryanr at November 4, 2009 10:51 AM

Either that the political parties have no useful corporate memory or they're counting on the fact that the voters don't.

Or both!

Wow, more hilarity from the gang who couldn't shoot straight.

Iffy, you fool! Look what you got yourself into, joining this gang of cutthroats. You really weren't paying attention all those years you were missing.

I remember 25 or 30 years ago there was a piece published in the paper about the amount of corruption that involved french canadians in government. As I recall the numbers were in the high 80's. This was about the time trudeaus legacy was kicking in and there was a big stink about it being a racist article and was dropped by the press. As I recall the piece came out in conjunction with some liberal scandal regarding the St Laurence sea way. Anybody out there remember that article or know where to find some information about it?

And thank you Pierre for giving him to us in teh first place.

Is anyone really surprised by this? Big business has always been the bedfellow of the ruling party, no matter the political stripe.
Most of these contracts and deals are made by civil servants who keep sucking the government utters, whether they be Grits or Tories or PQ, or at the provincial political level. These lifer civil servants/union thugs hold far more weight than our politicians as they make the friends and enemies which keep the grease on the wheels.

"I remember 25 or 30 years ago there was a piece published in the paper about the amount of corruption that involved french canadians [sic] in government."

Is it possible to have a political conversation here that doesn't devolve into flimsy, one-dimensional race-stereotyping?

Obviously not.

That big bag of burning gas out there is Kinsella going down in flames.

Kinsella is a gawd send for PMSH. He's like a bag of boat anchors, a really big bag of really heavy boat anchors, dragging the LPC down into the pond scum layer where they like to dwell.

I wondered why this question was in App's letter. This info had been mentioned a few months ago in passing. The cons mentioned it a few months ago.....I believe they let this one come to them, and chose not to highlight it letting it come out through non partisan means.

How could Apps not have checked before he wrote it. Amatuer hour again.

Dr. Art Hister, a regular on CKNW, said this morning that these flu vaccines are just the beginning. More and more health services will be rationed in the future, decisions will have to be made on who gets what in what order because we can't afford everything.

It's been happening for years already but yes, it will get worse.

Watch out, U.S.A.

the wife won't let the family go anywhere near the vaccine.

Posted by: puddin n pie at November 4, 2009 12:46 PM

Almost fully recovered from H1N1. I've had worse flu in the past and I am quite certain I will have worse flu in the future.

Note to Iffy: Flu makes you ill. Stupidity leaves you dead. (politically speaking obviously)

JJM, French Canadians are -white- people. It isn't "flimsy, one-dimensional race-stereotyping". Its cultural stereotyping, if anything. But we're talking about Liberal French Canadians only, so...

Actually its probably just a statement of fact, if the Montreal construction biz is any indication.

Is that better?

Posted by: cal2 at November 4, 2009 1:34 PM

How many of these type of longterm contracts were signed By JC's Governing liberals?
How much funneled back to the Liberals as Thankyou's? And how much funneled even further to Top Liberal personal pockets, These could make Adscam look like a drop in the bucket.
Iam thinking more & more Mulroney/Shreiber affairs were nothing more then deflection shots to keep MSM off the bigger pictures IE: Shawinigate, EI Boondoggle's etc....
We need a Conservative Majority inorder to get to the bottom of these deals. And what about the other Hands off Accounts, ET you out there you know the other Funds iam talking about the ones the AG cant even audit.

Posted by: bryanr at November 4, 2009 1:35 PM

It would seem the Libs are in a super bind.

There is no realm of human activity that the Libs have engaged in and not completely screwed up. Anything and everything they attack the gov't on just comes back to bite them on the ar$e. Now and in the future.

Being in opposition in a minority gov't is a real curse for the Libs. Power is tantalizingly close and it makes them race from one blunder to the next like a junky in search of the next fix. A Tory majority would do wonders for them.

"to keep MSM off the bigger picture"

That would imply that the MSM were trying to do the job they are paid to do.I would respectfully disagree, this incestuous group of Liberal lapdogs are always looking to throw mud at the Conservatives while burying the Liberal puffin poop whenever possible.Thank god for the internet.

This is getting so easy for Mr. Harper he has to be just a little embarrassed.

The Libs go after the Tories for party logos on stimulus cheques. The Tories point out that Jean Cretien bragged about doing same.

The Lib Chief asks a question to which he should know the answer. Someone in the CPC slips the answer to CTV -- Jean Cretien.

Actually, I'm sure Mr. Harper isn't embarrassed at all. Those guys deserve every kick they get and more. If this keeps up, Mr. Harper may have to wait until 2012 to try for his majority.

Posted by: BJG at November 4, 2009 2:30 PM

Joe,

Sorry to hear you caught it. Your wife is being silly, imho...but thats another debate...and a personal choice.

I have wached a neighbours 10 year old go through the early stages of it....it is a bad flu, which we have all had but she has athsma. 40+ celsius temperature, rapid breathing, visit from the paramedics, visit to emerge....finally cleared after a chest x ray and some good extra info from the DR on combining medications to keep temp down...oh and some gravol to go with the tamiflu to keep the tamiflu down,. the damn stuff makes you sick.

For people like her and my daughter this thing is a real danger, not dramatically so, but real enough you need to watch it more than just giving your kids a bowl, a glass of ginger ale and a place in front of the TV.

For the rest of us, it sucks to get but not a clear and present danger.

Posted by: curious_george at November 4, 2009 5:49 PM

So, Graham Richardson, an anti-CPC, Liberal partisan (I'm kinda surprised he reported this at all, though it IS news) says in this segment that we are in a pandemic situation.

Are we actually in a pandemic situation? The UN has said we are, the Liberal$ say we are, CTV via Graham Richardson says we are, but ARE we?

So far, way more people have died, worldwide, from regular flu than from the H1N1 virus. The chief medical officer of Ontario says that most people who contract the H1N1 virus will get better and are not at particular risk, so what's really going on here?

My spidey sense is tingling and I can't help wonder if not only political points are being made on the mass hysteria being generated by the Official Opposition and their lapdogs in the media. Who's making BIG MONEY from this "pandemic"?

Posted by: batb at November 4, 2009 5:49 PM

Western Canadian, I don't know about the newspaper article, but there's plenty about the Seaway scandal, the Hamilton harbour scandal, and quite a few others, in Paul Palango's book, "Above the Law".

It's probably available at your public library, and is a good read.

Posted by: dmorris at November 4, 2009 5:51 PM

Oh, well, I can answer my last question -- in Canada, at least -- with "one company near Quebec" with a 10-year contract worth over $3,000,000,000, signed by Jean Chretien's Librano$ which, shortly after the contract was signed, donated $56,000 to the Liberal Party of Canada.

But, is there anyone else or does there need to be anyone else? All corrupt, partisan, and twisted roads lead to the Liberal$. Is anyone surprised?

Posted by: batb at November 4, 2009 6:09 PM

Just on the off-off chance, did anyone record, or perhaps have the transcript of, Monday's The National? I seem to recall that right off the top Mansbridge said words to the effect of "some are calling this the Conservatives' Hurricane Katrina."

I mention this, and I ask, because it was Liberal Party President Alfred Apps who'd made that Katrina comparison in an email he'd sent to dozens of Liberals earlier on the day of the broadcast.

I might be mistaken, but I don't recall the Katrina analogy being attributed on The National to the LPC President. It would be strange - okay, just business as usual, but you get my drift - if LPC spin were to be broadcast nationally the same day it was, er, spun up.

Btw, it was the same broadcast in which a Liberal party strategist - and former CBC lawyer - was interviewed as just some regular Joe in a flu-shot lineup.

If you thought that Carolyn Bennet was hysterical, when she asked the question, as supplied by OLO staff, "Why does the government have only a single source for manufacture of vaccine?"
she went completely ballistic, with the Opposition leader's staff ( welcome to the OLO Peter Donolo) when informed that the truth is that it was Jean Chretien that negotiated and signed the single source 10 year $323 million, beginning in 2001. She was pacified and came down of the ceiling, when she was informed that the upside was that the Liberal Party got a $56,000 donation ( some would say kickback) from the firm.
Is it time for Judge Gomery to begin an investigation of the Liberal Party, on kickbacks to the party, for government contracts, as the Liberal way of doing government business - this could make the sponsorship scandal of theft of Canadian taxpayer's money, look like peanuts in comparison.

While it was good that CTV carried the story, I still get the impression that they did everything they could to mitigate the Liberal's actions. All political parties may be involved in this type of conduct, but the media is always biased in favour of the Left.

Cats are never embarrassed.
They walk into a glass door, bounce off and walk away "that's just the way I intended---check out the dog."
Cat knocks over a lamp...the cat is offended..."check out the dog"....the dog looks guilty.......

dmoris -- thank you very much I will pass along that info. My grand daughter is writing some kind of paper at Uni and I just couldn’t remember anything about it other than it was the seaway scandal. Thanks again.

JC is only the second worst PM in Canada's history but he learned well from his mentor. At least PET had some ideals like communism to account for his actions. The little turd from Shawinigan operated on pure, unadulterated greed and a desire for power that rivals that of Obama.

I hope Liberal heads are exploding. But, I doubt it...

Ayn Rand wrote in a 1963 essay titled, "How Not To Fight Against Socialized Medicine":

"Consider, for instance, the outcome of the Canadian doctors’ struggle in Saskatchewan. The doctors had gone on strike against the full-scale socialized medicine instituted by the provincial government. They won the battle—and lost the war; in exchange for a few superficial concessions, they surrendered the principle for which they had been fighting: to permit no socialized medicine in the Western hemisphere.

"They surrendered, even though the overwhelming sympathy and support of the Canadian people were on their side (except for the intellectuals and the labor unions). They were defeated, not by the power of the socialists, but by the gaping holes in their own ideological armor.

"They had been fighting, properly, in the name of individual rights, against the enslavement of medicine by totalitarian-statist controls. Then, under the pressure of the usual intellectual lynching, under the hysterical, collectivist charges of “anti-social selfishness and greed,” they made a shocking change in their stand. Declaring, in effect, that their rebellion was not directed against socialized medicine as such, but against the high-handed, arbitrary manner in which the government had put it over, their spokesmen began to argue that the government plan did not represent “the will of the people.” The ideological kiss of death was a statement by Dr. Dalgleish, the strikers’ leader, who declared that if a plebiscite were taken and the people voted for it, the doctors would accept socialized medicine.

"Could they deserve to win, after that? They could not and did not."
