Chicago Tribune reviews "V" - The news media swoons in admiration -- one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: "Why don't you show some respect?!" The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader's origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: "Embracing change is never easy."
Politico reviews "MSNBC" - While discussing exit polls showing low numbers of younger Democrats heading to the polls in Virginia, Chris Matthews cut off Larry Sabato when talking about the high expectations some might have had for Obama's first year in office. "They're wrong and misinformed," said Matthews. "The netroots people out there that think you can change the Congress overnight legally and civilly are wrong," Matthews continued. "It takes a strong majority to bring big change. Somebody should have told them that."

Posted by Kate at November 4, 2009 10:07 AMI watched it last night because I read a review saying it was going to be a sendup of the Democrats and the media. It was exactly that, which made it pretty funny at times. I don't like scifi stuff much but it's probably worth watching just for the shots it takes at the media and the Dem's.
Although I think the reptile brain is very similar to the average left wingers brain.
Posted by: gord at November 4, 2009 10:14 AMThe new V accomplished in one episode what was almost a season of the old episode. Same story with new actors. I have the old series of V, but note only one side will play on the CD. Two sided CD's are never a good buy. Invaders was a similar series as well.
Posted by: News Flash at November 4, 2009 10:21 AMChris Matthews now there is science fiction.
He should leave TV and go directly to the WH. Have him and Robert Gibbs fight over who is the better Knob Pollisher of the Pres.
I watched it, and think it is a perfect description of our times.
A group appears out of nowhere promising hope and change, but they are really evil in disguise, and we know their motive is to destroy our way of life. And a wilfull media exists to praise them for their own aggrandizement.
Posted by: rmgk at November 4, 2009 10:31 AMMatthews still dry-humping Obama's leg, I see.
Posted by: rabbit at November 4, 2009 10:39 AMPeople this is a remake of an old series and in the works for years. TV is not telling you the reptilians are behind all the evil in the world. Seek help.

Posted by: mojo at November 4, 2009 10:50 AMBarry is toast, done, finished.
Press secretary Robert Gibbs declared that Barry would not watch the elections instead he would tune in a football game...Of course every single comment that I read says it's yet another big lie by the "Lizard with the mysterious background" which only serves to insult the intelligence.
The fact that Soetoro campaigned intensely for the Democrat runners firsthand and surely knew ahead of the results it would be lost (The NY Democrat who won did it simply because there was a vote split between a Rhino Republican who quit and thus created a spoiler as her name was still on the ballot and a newcomer Conservative) yet again showed the American people how little a man Barry Soetoro really is. He simply shuts out reality if it's not of his making or simply his wish. Signs of a pure narcissist...PAGING E.T!
Is Barry smart enough to do a Bill Clinton and start moving towards the centre, centre right to save his Administration and give him a chance at another term?
With this latest "I'll be switching channel" moment tells me he his too much an ideologue of the extreme left with a huge ego handycap and he won't change. Maybe that's a good thing because there's enough transparency here to prove he does not believe in what the vast majority of Americans want. He is not for the people thus he is not a true Constitution loving American President.
Meanwhile,
Michelle took the girls to a concert on a school night...Being tired in school is not a problem when, for some, "affirmative action" is there as backup just in case, I guess.
Also in the news, Soetoro's half brother Mike has published his memoir calling their father "a violent and abusive drunk"...Totally inconsistent with "Dreams of my Father" (Written by Bill Ayers)...
The Obamamania is starting to unravel real fast and it's going to be ugly...Real ugly. The truth is going to be brutal.

Posted by: Gord Tulk at November 4, 2009 11:43 AMThe market is up nicely today. Obama getting his head handed to him is a bullish signal (not unlike clinton after the first midterms).

The traitor masquerading as a Republican was a closet Democrat. The backlash by female voters & locals, plus all the confusion resulted in a win for Dems, but the Republican party would have lost more had she been elected and then turned traitor
It is important to get these closet Democrats out of the Republican party. The Grid lock in DC is the result of electing these turds.

Posted by: Phillip G. Shaw at November 4, 2009 11:52 AMArrg! It was my main goal to watch V but while waiting I got caught-up in a new book. By the time I looked the show was almost over on all channels. I guess I'll find a repeat but I'm glad to hear one of my childhood favourites was done well; unlike some shows based on a “Sword of Truth”.
That being said, I don't think BO is a V, I think it's much more likely he one of the "Crab people".
"Inspired by the book, director–producer Kenneth Johnson wrote an adaptation titled Storm Warnings, in 1982. The script was presented to NBC, for production as a television mini-series, but the NBC executives rejected the initial version, claiming it was too "cerebral" for the average American viewer. To make the script more marketable, the American fascists were re-cast as man-eating extraterrestrials, taking the story into the realm of science fiction. The new, re-cast story was the mini-series V, which premiered on May 3, 1983."

Comparisons between the Visitors and fascist demogogues are not just subtextual, they are in fact the entire point.
Posted by: Daniel Ream at November 4, 2009 11:57 AMMatthews is on dope. The democrats *do* have a majority. They own the Whitehouse, they own Congress, and they have a filibuster-proof senate. What's the problem? They should be able to make any changes they want.
Their problem is Obama is in way over his head.
Posted by: Norman at November 4, 2009 11:57 AMand we canucks cry about minority governments?
if that private member's bill kills the gun registry we know democracy still works.
Posted by: puddin n pie at November 4, 2009 12:55 PMWill Obama change the channel? Why he didn't tune in this channel! He's just a pretty face that masks what the backroom boys are doing. The backroom boys were just rebuked by the voters in VA and NJ but the backroom boys being the leftist elitists they truly are won't notice. Obviously they know better the needs of the country than the citizens of the country.
Obama is oblivious and will continue to practice his b ball skills.
Posted by: Joe at November 4, 2009 1:24 PMPerhaps Owens of NY-23 will see the writing on the wall and actually vote "smart" and with his constituents. If he is interested in self-preservation, he will not be an automatic vote for the Democrats in Congress. Cheers.
Posted by: fernstalbert at November 4, 2009 2:06 PMRe: 'V'
I both loved and hated the moment where Tyler's decision to be completely drawn in by the "Visitor Youth" seemed to be driven by the offer of universal health care. The message was way too overt. Aside from the fact that I agree with the message in question it was like watching something from season 5 of 'Boston Legal'. Blecch.
Posted by: K Stricker at November 4, 2009 3:04 PMThey're attempting to paint the NY23 outcome as a Republican problem. Few seem to notice that until 3 days before the vote, Hoffman was running against the _combined_ machines of the Republicans and Democrats, and nearly managed to pull it off.

"we found that hope has a major downside and can prevent happiness."

"CMU study: Hope can be harmful to mental health
A spoonful of hope might not be the best medicine, according to a new study from a Carnegie Mellon University professor that asserts that optimism can actually be harmful to mental health.
The study, authored by CMU's George Loewenstein and several researchers at the University of Michigan, measured the emotional well-being of patients in two groups: those with permanent colostomies and those with colostomies that might be reversed.
A colostomy is a surgical procedure -- either temporary or permanent -- resulting in feces leaving a patient's body through the abdomen. Though patients with reversible colostomies initially reported higher life satisfaction, they grew less happy as time went on, whereas patients with irreversible colostomies became happier over a six-month period.
"We usually assume that hope is a good thing and that it's better to have the possibility of relief," said Dr. Loewenstein, explaining the "paradoxical" findings in the study, published this week in the Health Psychology journal. "But, we found that hope has a major downside and can prevent happiness.""

Posted by: A. Cooper at November 4, 2009 3:59 PMWell, let's be honest here, Obama will still win the next presidential election, because it's in the media's best interest to not have their Chosen One be one-and-done. So, while its nice to see these wins last night, and no doubt, there will be big wins for GOP in the mid-terms, it will be an all-out assault by MSM for Barack in 2012. You think you were ill last year, wait until the republicans pick their next candidate. haha - I'm not trying to be a wet blanket here, but this thing is far from over for the President.
Posted by: Dean at November 4, 2009 5:53 PMWho knew being a "transformative figure" would prove to be so slow and difficult.
Imagine if it took super heroes a year or more to transform from their alter ego. It would be like having no super heroes at all. Oh, that seems to be the case. So much for the hope and change meme.
