"What's killing the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline?"

This is...

I worked on this project more than 30 years ago at Esso Resources. we were further along when it got cancelled then ,than Imperial oil and the government trolls are now.
we had the DBM on the plant and most of the compressor stations done when the gubmint of the day canned it.(lieberals)
esso managed to get the oil pipeline in from Norman wells by flying under the radar. a much more environmentally risky project but not nearly as political from the "second nations" prospective.
anyway 3 tcf plus lie stranded.
similar time line to the ring road with the second nations west of Calgary.

Dont cry for me at Tsu Tina , the truth is , you only let us down.
your constant whining
it causes sorrows.

Soon as the real & silent majority of Americans wake up from the great DNC/Obama/Progressive induced "Hopey-Changey-Thingy" and take back their country, they are going to want to be energy independent as possible and won't give a damn if some whackjob IPCC/UN Global Governance says they can't do it because of AGW.

They are starting to wake up . . . the four elections today will be an indicator of how fast.

The Conservative movement should just be prepared to tell the rest of the rent seeking world to "Blow Me".

Drill baby, drill.

And this is what will kill peak oil chicken littles and end much of the expensive deep water oil projects (I'm talking to you NL) within a decade. Think of low cost oil resrves of over a trillion Bbls in ab and maybe double that in sk.

What is going unreported is that the two technolgies that have unlocked this resource - horizontal drilling and fracing were both invented and commercialized in Alberta.

(THAI was as well)

govt' trolls indeed.

Having bureaucratic slugs and politicians involved with anything is contrary to efficiency and productivity.

We can hope that lifer bureaucrats like Prentice and their ilk will continually have technological innovation crowd them right out of the room.

"Horizontal drilling and fracing were both invented and commercialized in Alberta"

I think that might be a bit of a rash statement. You may need to define the terms invented and commercialized.

About 200 years supply of shale gas in the US at current consumption rates.

What's the point of freakin' inefficient wind turbines and solar panels when there's a cheap source of efficient energy left that's going to outlast every human being on this planet

Gawd, those AGW proponents are annoying.

The only thing that has peaked is the IQ of the warming crowd followers. Well, maybe those that are pushing this scam to create bigger government have an IQ in the triple digits. After all, they have been able to suck in a lot of people.

In the town of Arcola, there was a wildcater by the name of Mark Langfeld. He,along with othere's,bought a drilling rig and introduced horizontal drilling to southern Sask.He went onto other things but horizontal drilling is now the norm in the oil patch and the gas patch.

Sorry for this but EMERGENCY.

Some Lib Blogs are trying to play Kate.

Hey Spike, was Lengfeld part of Potatoe-Gate in Lucky Lake ?

Posted by: Azphiks at November 3, 2009 7:37 PM

and apparently a gazillion dinosaurs sacrificed themselves so that all that methane (isn't it cute how the brits call it MEEthane?) would be around in 2009.

bullshyt. it's a geological process. true, biological decomposition yields fart gas but not in those qtys or location.

do I need to renew my fixed rate natural gas contract next year?

hey spike
i still have a stock certificate from that adventure.

Thanks Fred Just went and voted. That bloody network can sure sink to low levels. Negative questions indeed!

One thing I will never forgive is the way Governor Palin was treated during the American presidential election by the vile, leftist, Canadian MSM after she had done everything in her power to make the pipeline route choice the logical one that would greatly benefit Alaska and Canada instead of the usual special interests.

Recent news item: Rot Stern offering staff buyouts and going to do more contracting out. Now I feel guilty about ignoring their offer of free Sat Star for three months. But feel good about saving the trees. But now will feel bad driving past the dehired on street corners as they hold up homemade "Will write lies about Tories for food" signs.

Sarg, don't feel guilty. Your did it for their good. Remember that.

Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at November 3, 2009 8:55 PM

williston wildcatters from arcola didnt invent horizontal drilling or multistage fracing .
the first horizontal well was in oklahoma in the the 1920s .

multistage fracing has been around about 10 years .invented in texas. and williston wildcatters and Mary from canmore where long exited from arcola.
ps they had cool letterhead, it took up about a third of the paper. the only thing of substance in the whole mess.

Giving credit to shale gas for killing the MVP miss steps the true reason.

The real reason Canada's northern gas will remain trapped until long after my (yet to be conceived) kids die is simple: political correctness and the desire not to offend/upset the natives.

If shale gas was the true reason why is it that an Alaskan gas pipeline will be built within the next decade? Engineering is still on going on both Alaskian projects, gas treatment plants, posible LNG terminals, pipelines right to the Alberta boarder.

Mackenzie had a decades long head start and died on the vine, sure in 10 years when gas is 9$ again it'll come back but by then the supply from both shale and Alaska will be accelerating.

Posted by: duffman at November 4, 2009 11:55 AM

the berger inquiry killed it . it was the beginning of the native whine fest that continues to thisday.

then as the gas shortage grew , the deep basin gas and technology backfilled the shortfall.now its the shale gas.

right now there will be more gas coming out of custers horses butt than the natives will get from taglu and parsons lake. they killed it themselves just like the ring road thru tsu tina.
30 years in the killing as well.
