Y2Kyoto: State Of Anorexia Envirosa

Accounts of western governments (from the local to the federal) kneecapping the very infrastructure upon which modern metropolitan life depends - including reliable electricity, food production, and the transport of essential goods - are so routine now, one can hardly keep track;

On October 31, 2009, the once largest aluminum plant in the world will shut down. With it goes another American industry and more American jobs. The Columbia Falls Aluminum Company in Montana will shut down its aluminum production because it cannot purchase the necessary electrical power to continue its operations.

[...]

In the year 2000, America planned 150 new coal-electric power plants. These power plants would have been "clean" by real standards but the Greens managed to have carbon dioxide defined legally as "dirty" and this new definition makes all emitters of carbon dioxide, including you, a threat to the planet. Therefore, using legal illogic, the Sierra Club stopped 82 of these planned power plants under Bush II and they expect it will be a slam-dunk to stop the rest under Obama.

And now you know the real reason the Columbia Falls Aluminum Company had to shut down. America stopped building new power plants a long time ago. There is now no other source where the company can buy energy. Our energy-producing capability is in a decline and it is taking America with it.

h/t Fred

But I repeat myself.

More orders and jobs for Quebec aluminum manufacturers then?

And then they want us to drive electric cars.

State Of Anorexia Envirosa, Y2Kyoto, Not Waiting For The Asteroid, Juxtapose ....

I sure as he!! hope you are copyrighting all these headliners. The next generation may well be pointing to and quoting them as the dragon slayer. The 'dragon' being 'The World Is Run By Crazy People'.
(tongue in cheek, heh)

On second thought, maybe it is 'not' so tongue in cheek.

This sounds like something right out of Atlas Shrugs.

The US has been on a path of running out of electrical generation capacity for 20 years, they also have, as a direct result of Environmentalists blocking these projects, produced far more CO2 than would have been if these new plants would have come online and replaced aged ones.

Simple logic would allow the replacement of older coal plants by cleaner and more efficent coal/gas ones to improve the emissions profile of the country and make some sort of progress, instead the electrical utility industry stagnates until it is not capable of meeting demand. In the next decade the current 30+ year old nuclear and coal plants will cease to function, impacting 25% of capacity and plans for renewables is 6% by then, which is less than the demand growth rate.

Just like drilling for oil and gas, better get started now or it will not be there when you really need it.

Soon we will wake up to the red banner flying on top of every building.

I hope that the Sierra Club members like farming. Real farming.

It is also interesting to see the article on Kitimat in Wikipedia.

Unless somethings change the US 'government' may use the reserved raw resources to pay China or Russia not to invade America.

The 'green' policies of the NGO's mesh to a degree with those of the Marxist boy president currently in the White House. The Obamunists are just getting warmed up: tanking the economy increases dependence on government. That is their first mission. Big Business and Big Green are only too eager to help focus resource access to a more powerful smaller controlling group.

Regardless of the economic state of the world, the laws of America and the UN Al Gore and M. Strong, Obama and Chavez will always have full belly's,fueled up Citations and helpful cronies.

Re Atlas Shrugged, this isnt just some sort of apt metaphorical comparison, it is virtually straight out of the storyline.

If anyone who follows this board has not read Atlas, take the time to do so.

It is describes exactly what is occurring today socially and politically.

Yeah well we told ya there were REDS UNDER OUR BEDS...but did you listen???
They have infested the schools, universities and unions for generations....
It will require a massive emotional event (war) to set things right....
Hopefully they have over-played there hand again....and lack the genuine power to consolidate their current gains.

Heck, its a big conspiracy by the corporations.

I'm certain that if they had hired suzuki and prince chuckles they could design a system of windmills and solar powered garbage cans to feed the plant.

Its the new green economy people.

Sarcasm intended.

Sounds like good news for Kitimat though, and they need some.

There is much insanity in the Western World at this time. Many of those fools want us all to live as happy peasants in a lovely village environment with a town well and a general store that carries accounts for the friendly and trustworthy inhabitants.

We can spend many evenings drinking home made wine and beer and sing songs around a community campfire, but not a bit one ... carbon eh?

We can all go a poop in the community latrines that will be serviced with minimal water and safe chemicals.

It can be so wonderful just like an eternal boy scout camp.

The part that stands in the way is that you cannot live like that on this planet with seven billion carbon units ... so watch for signs of mass population reduction that will begin with Obamas health care plan and the more direct reduction desired by people like G. Soros and Prince Charles ... Mo Strong, Al Gore ... other elites who want to keep the world pristine for THEM.

I can't wait for the revolution.

Even hydro is unacceptable by the new American standards:

"At last count, besieged Environment Minister Jim Prentice was confronted by 28 American states or U. S. cities that have drawn a line in the oil-soaked sands of northern Alberta, vowing to reduce or eliminate Canada's "dirty oil" from their fuel supply.

That's not even his biggest American headache. That is reserved for two dozen states that have declared Canadian hydro unacceptable as a "renewable" energy source to help meet new, cleaner standards as they rush to encourage home-grown alternatives to coal-fired power."

As I said a few weeks ago; AGW hysteria is the new tool of choice for protectionists. You can't say you're against free trade and be taken seriously because the numbers don't pan out; but, you can say almost anything regarding the environment because the numbers don't mean anything. This is just the beginning of the new trade barriers that will be erected in the name of mother Earth. Fortunately for us Canadians, 70 to 80 percent of us don’t care about fair/free trade with the Americans as we would have voted for Obama anyways.

Copenhagen/COP 15 is now about a month away . . reminds me of something I wrote back in 2007 . . . still applies today

"Mister Speaker, I rise today to announce measures that my government must take to comply with Bill C288, otherwise known as the “Pablo Rodriguez Law of Unintended Consequences”.

In order to comply with the Bill and Kyoto, it is necessary to take some drastic measures to either reduce emissions or buy credits from other signatory nations of the Kyoto Protocol who do not need to reduce their emission but get to sell these credits.

Canada got hosed at Kyoto. Jean Chretien’s Liberal government signed Canada to a treaty that means we must reduce our standard of living in order to comply. Bill 288 further obligates Canada to reduce its economy in order to comply and because of the way the Bill is worded, our Government must achieve the 2012 targets within 180 days of the Bill being granted Royal Ascent, so we must act NOW.

I am instructing a number of government department and agencies to enact the following emergency measure so that we can comply with the will of Parliament, or at least the Liberal, NDP and Bloc Quebecois parts of parliament.

Immediate shutdown of all coal fired power plants in Canada. We realize that this will hit Ontario very hard – 1/3 of Ontario’s electricity is coal generated, but look on the bright side, the lack of power will also cause the shutdown of thousands of plants and factories, throwing hundreds of thousands out of work. While we are it, we’ll close down all the top ten listed below:

Rank Company Name Province
1 Ontario Power Generation On
2 Transalta Utilities AB
3 Sask Power SK
4 Alberta Power Corp AB
5 Nova Scotia Power Inc NS
6 Syncrude Canada Ltd. AB
7 Suncor Energy inc. Oil Sands AB
8 EPCOR Generation Inc. AB
9 Petro-Canada AB
10 Dofasco Inc. On

Immediate shutdown of the entire Petroleum industry across Canada – we will need to import our oil but we are only going to import oil from countries that will sell us Kyoto Credits.

Immediately ban all wood burning fireplaces, charcoal and propane BBQ’s and summer campfires. All recreational vehicles and activities are deemed frivolous and will be banned. Sorry Bombardier, no more skidoos and water jet boats. We are investigating how to ban forest fires as well, but that has its challenges. No

A 30 cent per liter “GhG Kyoto credit buying Tax. Based on recent data that we use about 45 Billion liters of gasoline every year. This new tax revenue should provide enough money to both buy the $10 billion in foreign credits we need annually and make up for the billions in lost income taxes the Federal and Provincial governments will not collect by the 35% contraction of our economy we need to achieve

We ill not be able to afford generous EI support for all the laid off workers because the numbers could reach in the millions. Shutting down the oil sands alone will result in huge job losses in Alberta, but also in Quebec and Ontario, where tens of thousands of workers make the pipes, valves, machinery, trucks, tires, computers and other equipment that would have been purchased had we not put these actions in place to meet the requirements of the “Pablo Rodriguez Law of Unintended Consequences”.

For the tens of thousands of workers in the Financial sector, we are aware that the mortgage and credit crisis these moves will cause will result in the devastation of your industry as well but we expect that the Barons of Bay street will be able to salvage a fee jobs trading in the International Credit Trading Market, or as some have come to call it, the Kyoto Hot Air Credit Socialist Sucking Ponzi Scheme. Hopefully you will be one of the few out of the tens of thousands Financial Sector workers who will get one of these new jobs – you might even make megatonnes of money

Since there will be a huge rise in the number of corporate and personal bankruptcies , our government will be enacting new legislation to simplify the process. Simply nail a sign to your property say “We quit” or for consumer debt, place your cut up credit and bank cards in an envelope. That’s all, no lawyers or courts needed

We will also be reducing the size of the federal government payroll by at least 35% to meet the requirement to keep the budget balanced to the new and much lower levels of government funds.

We will be reducing the Federal government transfer of dollars to the provinces to meet the new fiscal capabilities of Canada’s Federal government. We will leave it up to individual provinces to decide to close schools or hospitals or whatever. It’s a provincial responsibility

Its not all bad news. Canada should be able to save a fortune in Immigration costs. We have a forecast from government experts that Canada will go to last place in the quest for skilled immigrant labour. Somehow they don’t want to come to a country with power shortages, no air conditioning, limited winter heating, no jobs and a devastated economy. Go figure. The USA and Australia will benefit form these immigrants and their skills,

Mr. Speaker, let me close by thanking the Liberals, especially the mega green leader Citoyen Dion, the NDP, under the leadership of Jack “Talban” bin Layton, the Bloc Quebecois and their inspired of Gilles “Hairnet” Duceppe for voting for Bill C288. But especially all Canadians want to thank Liberal Pablo Rodriguez for devastating our economy, depressing our standard of living to upper third world status. As we huddle in the cold and swelter in the summer heat, as we stare at our old car we can’t afford to drive, as we fondly remember how hard it was to get out of bed on a Monday morning to go to the job we used to have, we can take pride in being the best-est, wonderful-est, the most moralist international boy scouts out to help the planet be saved.

Thank you Mr. Speaker

Mark @ 2:56, They might when they can no longer visit grandma in Maple Creek, when they have line up at the pumps for fuel (if they can afford a car), only have electricity for 6 hours a day, or look for a non-existent job because their place of employment has been forced to shut down.

Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at November 3, 2009 6:32 PM

well (sniff sniff sob) does that mean we all have to move away from aluminum beer cans to glass ???

LOL !!!

seriously, once the aluminum is taken out of the bauxite with all that electric power, it holds very high scrap value because of the ease of additional smelting, ie holds it value. but the greens aren't known for looking at all angles of an agenda.

Re Aaron: "The communists are winning."

With Vaclav Klaus signing the Lisbon Treaty today, I think they have won. I don't thing can now turn this train around.

I was recently in NYC and there was a HUGE neon display sign re climate change and CO2 emissions at Broadway and 34th. My first thought was how could any environmental group afford such a display? Then, as I got closer, I was able to read that the display was sponsored by the Deutsche Bank. I am pretty sure this is not just a civic gesture on their part. This is all about money and control

Posted by: LindaL at November 3, 2009 10:18 PM

@ Murray the Hun 12:26 pm

I was thinking the exact same thing. It is surprising how Ayn Rand predicted in that book what is happening. She just didn't get the climate angle of it but besides that she is bang on.

Fascinating how stuff works out....
Copenhagen will fail unless India/China/Russia/Brazil to get on board.....good luck with that.
KyotoI got Russia on board by making them de facto exempt with free carbon credits to sell----by setting Russian emissions pre-USSR collapse---when the USSR imploded most Russian (former Soviet) industry collapsed....
That process won't function this time---there is no acceptable justification for de facto exemption of India/China/Russia/Brazil for KYOTOII----and still get the rest to sign on....regardless of the Euro-idiots or Obamabots.
Meanwhile in Europe, Australia, USA....the natives are really getting restless.
2010 may be more tumultuous than 1848.....

They've got the cleanest coal in the country in the Powder River Basin of Montana and Wyoming.

Warren Buffet just bought Burlington Northern Railroad, gambling it all that that coal shipped on his railroads will be part of future economic growth. He's counting on cap and trade to pass so his relatively clean coal will be king. Wyoming is already the largest coal producer in the US.

Posted by: POWinCA at November 4, 2009 2:27 AM

the USA has about a quarter of all the coal reserves in the world. an Obama has hobbled the coal industry. this is starting to look more like Atlas Shrugs every day.

On the bright side, less aluminum workers will now die from Alzheimer's and motor neuron disease. Type this phrase into the google search engine: ALCAN Alzheimer's donation. What you get are many pages of obituaries of ALCAN employees dying from Alzheimer's who are requesting a donation to the Alzheimer's Society in lieu of flowers.
