Maybe after the enviro-nuts clean up the Tazmanian forests, they can set about cleaning up Mount Everest.

I understand that there's a mountain, no pun intended, of rubbish left behind by decades of climbers. What's the purpose of seeing the world from the top if you contribute to its destruction on the way up?

Posted by: PhilM at November 2, 2009 8:41 AM

It's only pollution if it's caused by something critical to our high standard of living, like agriculture, mining or energy production. And because we do such a poor job in these industries we should send a lot of our wealth to underdeveloped countries where they do a much better job. It appears these hypocrites are giving us pictures of the lifestyle we will all be able to enjoy if we remain silent.

Posted by: absinthe enhanced at November 2, 2009 8:59 AM

Typical. Behind every "movement" you usually find hypocrisy, people who "talk it" but won't "walk it".

Every activist group extant has been exposed as lying hypocrites, from PETA,who kill more animals than they save, to Greenpeace, and their contracts with a giant insurance company.

Unfortunately, they usually get a free pass from the MSM, and only a small percentage of the public is aware of their two-faced existence.

Posted by: dmorrris at November 2, 2009 9:34 AM

There's enviro-nuts and then there's the other nuts that think they can and should denude the forests.

If properly managed they wouldn't have all these nut jobs out protesting in the first place.

I rode the train once from T O to T Bay in the 80's and still remember seeing nothing but tree stumps for as far as I could see, beyond the cover they left by the tracks to try and hide their "industry. They raped the landscape of northern Ontario. There's no need for that.

Posted by: blanks at November 2, 2009 9:50 AM

Worst of all, the whole mess probably reeks of patchouli.

Bullshit!

Posted by: richfisher at November 2, 2009 9:59 AM

rich, you suppose frequent use of mind altering drugs might have something to do with the hippie's "memory"?

Posted by: Doug at November 2, 2009 10:01 AM

It would seem that those “environ-mentalists” are your regular slum dwellers hired by those that make luxurious living on protest management. The environ-mentalist types work for piece of bread and a place to have sex and get high out of sight.
It’s your mutual benefit society.
You are dirty to do the dirty work; we get the cash and maybe give you some.
Everybody is happy. Environment actually is not part of the play.

If you look real close under that blue tarp being used as a rain shelter you'll see maz2 doing 'investigative' journalism.

Posted by: not stirred enough said at November 2, 2009 10:31 AM

looks like a garbage dump.

Posted by: kgm at November 2, 2009 10:36 AM

No No that is 're-cycling'. Those plastic chairs aren't going to the dump they are being composted. It is only pollution when someone with money does it. Can't you tell by all the little hearts drawn on the compost heap?

Hippies - aka cop-out.

How odd? I lived in Northern Ontario in the 80's and frequently drove between TBay and TO and do not recall seeing this ravaged landscape. There were some areas that had been harvested but hardly the scenario you are trying to paint - there was some areas that had been hit by forest fires. In fact, I just drove around the Lakehead last year and the areas that had been cut in 80s are all teaming with new growth (because the trees were planted). That's the interesting thing about trees - they are renewable.

Posted by: Deb at November 2, 2009 11:10 AM

Funny thing about tree stumps. They become overshadowed by new trees in a relatively short time.

Posted by: dp at November 2, 2009 11:40 AM

So they're protesting the cutting of trees, yet use pallets, etc in their slum camps.Ummmmm. Must be some new type of tree you don't have to cut they use. Or like most hippies, think that their meat in the market doesn't come from animals. If brains were dynamite, they couldn't blow their own noses! Oh wait. They're hippies.Don't do that anyways.
Awful lot of eeeeeviil plastic there too!

Posted by: Justthinkin at November 2, 2009 12:36 PM

Reminds me of the hopeychangey drones in Chicago ("Yes-We-Can") last November, laying waste to the location of Bam Bam's victory speech. Typical parasitical lefties, always looking for Somebody Else to take care of the mess they leave behind.

Posted by: Colin from Mission B.C. at November 2, 2009 12:50 PM

Do you rightoids actually know what a Hippie is? Or is that something you use in vernacular because it just sounds negative?

The pink hearts make it all OK....

Posted by: jcl at November 2, 2009 1:29 PM

Sorry, must have been a different northern Ontario? CN rail though as I recall.

I know they grow back but that doesn't mean you should flatten the landscape.

They do that in agriculture to make fields but your not going to grow anything in northern Ontario. There's nothing to gain by raping the landscape up there.

Posted by: blanks at November 2, 2009 2:44 PM

How ironic, "blanks" is shooting blanks.

Posted by: Bruce at November 2, 2009 3:20 PM

I second that call for these hypocrites to start walking the talk at Mount Everest!

Posted by: Wild Thaing at November 2, 2009 3:52 PM

blanks - 2 by fours??

Posted by: CRB at November 2, 2009 5:41 PM

ron in kelowna , you lucky guy , you reside in one of the last hippy hide outs left in NA. interior BC. where even the mayor of Grand Forks has a grow op.(sorry that may be past tense. I dont know if the mayor has changed in a few years)

Posted by: cal2 at November 2, 2009 6:36 PM

"They do that in agriculture to make fields..."

Yeah, I recall overhearing a U of Sask student who was working at Moose Mountain Park interpretive center explain to a nice tourist family that the farmland south of the hills had been deforested by the pioneers.

I imagine he's working somewhere in higher education, now.

Posted by: Kate at November 2, 2009 6:39 PM

"the farmland south of the hills had been deforested by the pioneers"

...oh and here I thought the glaciers did it when they were receding as a result of Global Warming.

Dino farts you know, methane. Bad.

Posted by: tomax7 at November 2, 2009 7:54 PM

Reminds me of some native indian fishing camps I have seen in central BC...after Gaia's "natural stewards of the land" have packed up and gone home.
...only thing missing is the pampers strewn around the site.

Nice to know that 'other special interest groups' are into natural composting as well!

Disclosure Stmnt.

The author of the above piece was involved in the logging industry for many years, but is not necessarily prejudiced of any group that is :

A) responsible
B) lives on their own dime (unless infirm)
C) walks their talk
D) refrains from brainwashing little kids
E) keeps their act together
F) Cleans up after themselves

Reminds me of all the indigents nests in Edmonton's River Vally. Only you have small towns of these squatters cocoons. You get to love the smell of rotten meat & human waste after a while.

blanks

I would love to take you for a walk, make that several walks, into mature second growth forests, to show you that forests do more than grow back, they thrive.

And yes, Bambi, Thumper, and all the cute little critters return, and thrive too.

And yes, these places were barren landscapes 80-90 years ago.

It's called a renewable resource. Ken Wu, the Fruitfly, Vicky Husband, Tzeporah, the witch of the west, and countless others, only have one extreme opinion on what a forest is.

They haven't had to meet a payroll, or ensure families work for an honest living, instead of begging for handouts, which is their cause du jour!

And yet the simple minded latte-sipping urban dwellers listen intently, and deduct vast sums off their cheques to support these champaign socialists' desire to destroy the industry, and therefore, good paying jobs, thanks to a warped and twisted view of reality. Just travel up and down Vancouver Island, and see the desperation in Port Alberni, Tahsis, Sayward, Port McNeil, Port Hardy, Campbell River, etc. In what once were thriving logging towns, is now a slowly ticking timebomb of welfare and social decay, thanks to the monnbats and wingnuts of the looney left.

That's another one of those global warming data collection stations, right?
