Inside the Humane Society of the United States;
Posted by Kate at November 2, 2009 10:21 AMLast night in Los Angeles, Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) president Wayne Pacelle showed why he’s been able to turn a group that sounds as if it’s all about protecting puppies and kittens into an animal-rights lobbying force with talons. He’s looking to sink those talons into people who have the audacity to eat or sell meat, wear leather, go to circuses, or enjoy hunting and fishing – in other words, 99 percent of America.
In front of a hand-picked crowd of HSUS supporters who attended last night’s “town hall meeting” at the Ebell of Los Angeles, Pacelle rallied the troops with a fight song:
"We have to create a clamor for change ... You can get further with a kind word and a gun than a kind word alone."
He attributed the latter quote to notorious gangster Al Capone, who seems like an odd inspiration for a supposedly peaceful movement. But animal-rights extremists are far from peaceful. One of Pacelle’s own staffers, Josh Balk, told the HSUS-sponsored “Taking Action For Animals” that “there are very few instances that companies just refuse to move with a friendly conversation … The animals can’t wait for people to come to a revelation themselves. Sometimes it does take force.”
HSUS sounds more and more like PETA and the terrorist Animal Liberation Front every day.
It’s been well documented that HSUS spends only a tiny fraction – less than four percent – of its budget directly funding animal shelters. If you’re wondering how it spends the other roughly $100 million in its budget every year, you might consider the cost of renting out the posh Wilshire Ebell Theatre, providing the supporters-only crowd with a catered coffee service, and hiring four burly security guards to keep out the riff-raff.
Sorry, Wayne. We got in anyway.
The propaganda in its latest recruiting advertisements is enough to make you puke. Goebbels must be blushing in hell over these ads.
Posted by: Mike T at November 2, 2009 9:43 AMIt seems now that as people are starting to wake up, these left -leaning organizations that have now been hi-jacked by the extreme left, are starting to unspool. It's almost good to hear these wackos hang themselves on an ongoing basis. I just hope we reach the tipping point in time to send these people back to the communist caves they crawled from since the fall of the Berlin Wall before they do even more irrepairable damage.
Posted by: pkuster at November 2, 2009 10:16 AMI hesitate to use the word "outraged", since it seems nowadays that someone is always outraged over something. However, using less than 4 per cent of the budget to fund animal shelters is nothing short of an outrage.
This fact alone, if made public, should cause potential donors to have a change of heart. If any organization deserves to have its funding dry up, it is this one.
Posted by: biffjr. at November 2, 2009 10:37 AMSad truth is that the vast majority of people who actually care about animals will never realize that the Humane Society has been hijacked by wingnuts and continue to contribute.
I recall a while back that there was a story about a "animal protection" group in the eastern US that actually had a signifigantly higher rate of putting down Fluffy and Spot than similar organizations in the area. I cannot say if it was the HSUS but I know the news didn't get too far in the MSM besides a story on FOX and the blogs.
Posted by: Texas Canuck at November 2, 2009 10:51 AMAlthough it isn't the same group as the Humane Society the OSPCA has been given the legislated right by the province to enter a person's property here in Ontario without a warrant of any type. They are allowed to act even on anonymous tips. Information was published recently about an elderly couple in a nearby county that raised dogs for sale...well kept dogs...and they used a website to advertise their puppies for sale. A do-gooder troll patrolling the internet for dog breeders came across their website and reported them to the OSPCA as running a puppy mill. They weren't...the OSPCA raided the couple and found nothing amiss...however they ordered that each and every dog must be walked 20 minutes per day.
Lucky for Kate she's not in Ontario.
Beware this same legislation being "snuck" through in other provinces.
Oh yes..I forgot to add that if friends and neighbours gathered in quiet support, on the dog breeders property, at the time of the raid they would be arrested for doing so.
All this power of search and seizure to people with nothing more than a few days/weeks of training.
Well, with none other than lawyers for monkees Cass Sunstein as an Obama regulatory "Czar" I suspect they'll become a little more emboldened.
Posted by: burton at November 2, 2009 11:17 AMIf they try to stop us hunting deer (opening day today in Ontario) why don't we just start hunting down and eating them? There are two types of animals in this world, predators and prey.
Posted by: minuteman at November 2, 2009 11:34 AMWhen theses type of far left clowns start actually taking away rights from people they will be kneecapped in shport order by angry mobs.
Posted by: bob at November 2, 2009 11:41 AM"HSUS sounds more and more like PETA and the terrorist Animal Liberation Front every day."
Kate, I believe that the HSUS has for many years been at least, if not more extreme than PETA. What is so insidious about the HSUS is that the general public doesn't understand the difference between the HSUS and their local humane societies which (for the most part), focus on the sheltering of abandoned/abused domestic animals.
Here are some quotes from HSUS Manager John Goodwin;
“My goal is the abolition of all animal agriculture."
“Sadly, some so called "animal defenders" are not so supportive of these raids. Ann Davis of the Salt Lake City, Utah based Animal Rights Alliance has stated that she has already talked to the FBI, and will continue to do so. The FBI is working for the fur industry. Anyone that works with them is working hand in hand with the fur trade and is a traitor. If you don't want to be investigated then don't associate with turncoats. With friends like these, the mink are screwed...”
“Let it be stated loud and clear, that myself and the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade support these actions 100%. We will never, ever, ever work with anyone who helps the FBI stop the A.L.F. (Animal Liberation Front)”
Here are some quotes from HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle:
"If we could shut down all sport hunting in a moment, we would."
"Our goal is to get sport hunting in the same category as cock fighting and dog fighting."
"We are going to use the ballot box and the democratic process to stop all hunting in the United States ... We will take it species by species until all hunting is stopped in California. Then we will take it state by state.
“I don’t have a hands-on fondness for animals…To this day I don’t feel bonded to any non-human animal. I like them and I pet them and I’m kind to them, but there’s no special bond between me and other animals.”
“One generation and out. We have no problem with the extinction of domestic animals.”
“If I had my personal view, perhaps that might take hold. In fact, I don’t want to see another dog or cat born.”
Unfortunately, millions of "grandmas" are still funding these ACORN-like eco-dorks.

Moonbats, my dear fellow, moonbats.
Wingnuts are generally found at the right end of the political spectrum.
Posted by: JJM at November 2, 2009 12:22 PMDuring my lifetime on this planet, I've made an important discovery. There are the "eaters" and the "eaten." I prefer the position of eater. God Bless red meat.
Posted by: Joe Citizen at November 2, 2009 12:36 PMIf God had not intended us to eat animals he wouldn't have made them out of meat.
(This Friday the 13th will be a very unlucky day for my deer.)
Posted by: richfisher at November 2, 2009 12:53 PMlooks like the editorial that created this was created by a professional lobbyist.
Hard to listen to a source that is a paid mouthpiece.
Looks like a load of bull on both sides.

Posted by: hardboiled at November 2, 2009 1:42 PMAs far as I am able to tell, the local Humane Societies in western Canada have generally retained their focus on sheltering and finding new homes for abandoned and lost domestic animals. I have heard the odd media comment from one of their officials that strays into farm animal husbandry issues, but usually dealing with how the animals are raised and not suggesting that we should abandon domestic livestock raising.
I have heard that the Toronto Society has more activist types with a wider agenda; maybe someone here has more details on that.
Posted by: felis corpulentis at November 2, 2009 1:52 PMnearly every night my stomach turns when I watch HSUS advertising on FOX News Network. Apparently this is a network that sells out easily.

You can't fault FOX for taking money from an advertiser unfamiliar with its own target demographic.

I still can't believe we gave this leech any money at all.
Posted by: DanSC at November 2, 2009 3:25 PMAs my daughter said when she was about seven, 'If we were meant to be vegetarians our eyes would be on the sides of our heads.'
Posted by: Speedy at November 2, 2009 3:34 PMWhy don't these "activists" focus on psychopaths who burn house pets alive rather than someone who occasionally eats a steak? One would think the priorities would be obvious.
Posted by: Osumashi Kinyobe at November 2, 2009 3:45 PMPlease note that the HSUS is NOT the same as the Humane Society.
The Humane Society usually works on a local level to create shelters for animal rescue.
The HS of the US hijacked the name on a nationally level because it would make them sound better to have that association.
They ARE NOT affiliated with your local Humane Society.
They ARE complete and utter wastes of skin. Animal or human.
Posted by: Rick at November 2, 2009 4:14 PMJust think what these nuts would do! Imagine the HRC,s with Inquisition powers only directed at Animal Rights.
You could end up in the crowbar motel because you didn't allow your pet to eat at the table.
I can see the left brining back the death penalty for People who accidentally ran over a dog. Thanks Walt Disney!!!
JMO
Just amazed at how late to the game so many commenters are.
This is not news!
It is just another in a long string of events where the HSUS leadership has been vocally blatant about their real agenda.
Go back about 20 years and you will see exactly the same thing.
Posted by: OMMAG at November 2, 2009 9:15 PMIn a local seniors magazine there's an ad showing a youngster and David Suzuki asking for a "legacy" donation, which I think means leaving them something in your will. I'm at the age I get a morbid thrill out of reading the obits, and it's amazing how many people request donations to the local SPCA or the Humane Society in memory of the deceased. You can almost hear Sarah Macglaughlin (spelling alert) singing her sappy song.
Posted by: larben at November 2, 2009 9:57 PMYou can't fault FOX for taking money from an advertiser unfamiliar with its own target demographic
I most definitely can and will. Accepting money from this band of terrorists only lends to it's legitimacy. As illegitimate as it is.
Posted by: the bear at November 2, 2009 11:09 PMIf animals had rights, then every time a lion or leopard killed a wildebeest or zebra, it would have to be charged with murder, which is obviously ridiculous. And you can't argue that they should be treated differently from humans in this regard because that would be textbook "species-ism".
Animals don't have rights. End of discussion.
Posted by: nv53 at November 3, 2009 3:26 AMI welcome the opportunity to set the dog on any violent animal rights activists who care to try me. I'll even go -buy- a dog for that job. A nice mastiff perhaps, or an Irish wolf hound.
He can chase coyotes when he's not chasing bunny hugger freaks.
Posted by: The Phantom at November 3, 2009 9:52 AMAnimals don't have rights. End of discussion.

You have the Charter and its' protections, don't you? :-)
Posted by: hardboiled at November 3, 2009 11:02 AMHSUS - terrorists, pure and simple.
