On Politics and Power on cbc (possibly the WORST show ever on tv)..Nathan Cullen fr.ndp says he will vote for the elimination of the registry.Martha Hall Findlay, says she knows how to 'shoot a long gun'..but we need the registry.

Posted by: Sammy at October 29, 2009 6:46 PM

Martha Hall Findlay has as much chance of knowing how to shoot a long gun as she has of doing brain surgery. Mind you,it doesn't take any brains to pull a trigger, which means I know how to pilot the space shuttle because somebody else fired the rockets.

Posted by: Justthinkin at October 29, 2009 6:50 PM

Perhaps a rally outside of parliament with long-guns would be more convincing.

Posted by: larben at October 29, 2009 6:52 PM

I see the statist Toronto police chief has come out in the open by saying the registry should be kept. Most likely McLiar put him up to it. One big rat's nest there.

Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at October 29, 2009 7:02 PM

but, but,.. you know the registry has saved lives in Toronto right?

I don't remember who, but some Liberal said it was so.

Posted by: ChrisinMB at October 29, 2009 7:06 PM

They will spend billions on a program with no way of measuring its effectiveness, but they don't have enough money so that grampa doesn't have to wait two years for a new hip. Go figure.

Posted by: mike at October 29, 2009 7:10 PM

Per capita, per annum cost of the gun registry to a SK citizen-$3.60.
Per capita, per annum cost to a SK citizen
to fund welfare for rural conservative welfare bums- $600.00.
Credibility of the CTF- absolute zero.

Posted by: philboy at October 29, 2009 7:10 PM

I could be wrong on this but I heard that this bill doesn't call for the registry to be scrapped. All it would do is remove the requirement to have the paperwork for your gun on your person while you are traipsing through a swamp after a dear.

Posted by: minuteman at October 29, 2009 7:26 PM

Whats the matter philly, afraid the welfare will run out and your cheque won't show up?

Why keep funding something that no one is useing anyway? Well, no one with a brain anyway!

The coyotes think it's great though, they just started feeding on people.

Posted by: bygeorge at October 29, 2009 7:33 PM

traipsing through a swamp after a dear.

..... is why this whole thing got started in the first place .

Posted by: Bill D. Cat at October 29, 2009 7:34 PM

Maybe the vote should be about placing the military (with loaded weapons, and maybe Leopards) in areas of extreme crime. Would that work?

Posted by: PiperPaul at October 29, 2009 7:49 PM

Philboy what do you cost me per year?

Posted by: Speedy at October 29, 2009 7:57 PM

Bill D Cat. that's funny.
most taxidermists hesitate at that type of work...

Wrong time. If, if, there's ever a PC majority, then OK. Not now.

It will kill PC support for younger Canadians. How many Canadians below 20 have fired a gun? We are becoming more and more urban. I friend of mine said she went out with someone from a - large city in Canada - he had never seen a cow in his life. He was 26 at the time.

Posted by: Erik Larsen at October 29, 2009 8:10 PM

> Wrong time.

Right time. Libs in the ditch and will vote for anything. If election comes, they only stand to loose more seats.

If this bill is not allowed to be passed by Harper, I will be voting NDP for life.

Had a fella tell me that the UK and Australian Guyn Bans had lowered crime and the insane LCC in the US had resulted in a wild west scenario.
He had no idea that the UK bobbies are now usually armed and gun crime was raging there and in Australia.
He refused to believe that LCC where inplemented had reduced confrontational crime.
He went on about the "powerful Gun Lobby" and refused to accept that Sarah Brady Foundation had a budget 4X that of the NRA.
I pointed out that the US TownHall meetings while initially noisy had no violence----then the union goons arrived----then licensed open carry folk showed up and violence ceased....funny that....
Facts and statistics are as futile with anti-gunners as they are with CO2 warmists----it's an act of faith!

Bill D Cat. that's funny.

Not really . Traipsing through a swamp after a deer , now that's funny .

Posted by: Bill D. Cat at October 29, 2009 8:25 PM

marc , heh ,

I get it . I was referencing Lepine {dear , not deer } , my bad .
cheers

"My head exploded that year.*", said Jack, after news reached him re Muslim Gamil Gharbi.
...-

Sammy said: "Nathan Cullen fr.ndp says he will vote for the elimination".

Sammy, send that to Taliban Jack LaytoNDP.

Will Taliban vote for the "elimination"?

Philboy what do you cost me per year?

Not one red cent, speedy.

Posted by: philboy at October 29, 2009 9:06 PM

Dont be too sure that this wont pass. There will be support from several northern ontario NDP MPs. Our local newspaper is saying Carol Huges is going to support the bill along with John Rafferty and Bruce Hyer.

Posted by: Dave at October 29, 2009 9:19 PM

PB never asked what you are worth, asked of the cost.

Posted by: Speedy at October 29, 2009 9:24 PM

I suspect you believe you have some clever point, speedy.
Why don't you just spit it out?

Posted by: philboy at October 29, 2009 10:02 PM

> I friend of mine said she went out

A person can live that long without seeing a picture of Hedy Fry? Amazing!

That lawn sign is priceless :)

Posted by: Knacker at October 29, 2009 11:53 PM

The only reason I could see for having a gun registry is for if the Liberals ever get back into power again and start slashing the military budget. They will need to arm our soldiers with something since the budget wouldn't be able to afford to arm our brave ones with proper arms.

Posted by: Knacker at October 30, 2009 12:14 AM

Here in the Yukon the Liberano Mp, Larry Bagnell has stated that he will vote to abolish the long gun registry unless MI calls for a whipped 'no' vote in the Liberano ranks. Larry has stated this publicly in the newspaper.

Posted by: Jema54 at October 30, 2009 3:04 AM

Damn homonyms get me every time!

Posted by: minuteman at October 30, 2009 7:15 AM

I simply want to say that I hope this succeeds because it saddens me to see how the burden of hysteria tainting our way of life. Cold hard fact evidently has no place in politics.

So we see billions of dollars being spent on witch hunts and our children loosing faith in the future.

Posted by: hedley at October 30, 2009 7:28 AM

Bill C-391 will get straight up get rid of the long-gun registry, not just carry the permit with you while hunting. It does not not touch the current licencing system.

Posted by: VicT at October 30, 2009 9:43 AM

Glad to hear that this is actively being considered in Canada. You Canadians need the right to protect yourselves as much as we Yanks do, considering the fact many of your criminals were initially from the lower 48.

Posted by: PineKnot at October 30, 2009 10:28 AM

Well, the yard sign made me proud to be an American and then I read PK's comment. Good grief, man. Canadians homegrow or use overseas imports for their criminal class just like the rest of us.

Posted by: Mazzuchelli at October 30, 2009 1:51 PM

I used to debate anti-gunners with reason, facts, and a logical argument. It was entirely wasted on them as the only response was "guns are only designed to kill people". So my opening line now is this:

"Because you are an anti-gunner, you are by definition an idiot. Unless you can prove to me that you can carry on a reasonable debate, I won't even bother with you."

Posted by: grok at October 30, 2009 1:52 PM

Exactly, Grok. Recall the remarkably idiotic replies the comic, Madonna's girlfriend [can't remember her name], made in an on-air debate with Tom Selleck [HIS name comes to mind immediately]. Tom was calm and dignified in the face of personal insults by the comic.

Posted by: Mazzuchelli at October 30, 2009 2:18 PM

Philboy, Speedy made a very clever point but I guess you're not bright enough to recognize it.

Speedy, I laughed so hard I wet myself.

Posted by: sonofAtilla at October 30, 2009 4:31 PM

Bill C-391 does not change licensing. Those provisions remain unchanged.

Registration deals with the object. Objects are inanimate. Licensing deals with people. It was dumbass people that brought on/in the farce called the Firearms Act.

Lorne Gunter of the NP had a piece today and apparently will have another one tomorrow.
