Hopey changey has veered the USA sharply to the left full bore.

"TEL AVIV – President Obama's presidential campaign focused on "making" the news media cover certain issues while rarely communicating anything to the press unless it was "controlled," White House Communications Director Anita Dunn disclosed to the Dominican government at a videotaped conference.
"Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn't absolutely control," said Dunn. "

Posted by: Mississauga Matt at October 19, 2009 11:41 AMGlen Beck IS crazy. But he's doing great work on behalf of regular folks who don't have their hand in the tax-payer cookie jar.
Last week, the white house sent out a memo correcting Beck on some facts he had broadcast about Van Jones. He had listed three things to describe Jones.
One: that he was an avowed Communist.
Two: that he was a radical. And,
Three: that he was the Green Jobs Czar in the white house prior to his unceremonious, Fox-led ouster.
The white house didn't have any problems with the first two descriptions. Now,I don't know about most normal people, but I sure do.
The problem they had was with the title 'Czar'!
Semantics, man. They were only concerned with the official title he carried, not his character, political leanings, radical beliefs, access to the president...etc. Unbeleivable. They've got a problem with news organizations, or whatever they deem Fox News, checking the facts that Obama, et al. are feeding the public. That's their job!
I wonder if these same white house officials had a problem with CNN fact checking a Saturday Night Live skit about Obama-care.
There is something upsidedown-ish in our (Western) society. And this juxtaposition displays our f-ed up prioritization of todays important issues.

Y'all,
Take heart, there is hope. Here is a link to a bit about the Oath Keepers who may well be our saviors.
I trust there are many individuals who share these values and will step up when the time comes.
After good health, freedom is all that matters. We will get neither from Obama's gang of thugs. What happens in the USA will happen here too.
This piece offers some hope to anyone who believes in individual freedom.
Posted by: Momar at October 19, 2009 11:49 AMNo calls from the"O"s castle yet. If Beck is BSing why haven't their been any liable suits started??
Posted by: Rob C at October 19, 2009 11:55 AMTruthfully I can't watch Glenn Beck, he just bugs the hell out of me. As does O'Reily. Their manner grates on my already abraded last nerve. I've only got the one left so I have to be careful with it, know what I mean?
OTOH we know lots of regular posters here who can't stand Limbaugh, so delivery is in the eye of the beholder.
All this aside, the amount of audience draw Beck and company are getting, and the sheer volume of money involved makes me go hmmmn. You can count on the fingers of one hand the number of media guys addressing that giant audience and taking the money. They are -all- on either Fox or the radio. All other media companies are in the TOILET for ratings, advertising revenue and stock price.
For this to happen on its own is about as likely as all the air molecules in your living room spontaneously gathering in the upper left hand corner, leaving the rest of it as a hard vacuum.
Therefore one must assume somebody is gettin' paid. Maybe not actual money, maybe future considerations, maybe some greasing of the skids for other projects, who knows. But the current situation in the media has got to be arranged, particularly TV. Its too seamless not to be, and it isn't that way on the web at all.
Is it still paranoia when they -are- out to get you?

Posted by: cal2 at October 19, 2009 12:11 PMEvery time the subject of Glen Beck comes up someone here has to say he is "crazy" but they don't realize that anyone who speaks the truth is always labeled "crazy."
Posted by: Doug at October 19, 2009 12:19 PMThat the White House would dare to call upon major news organizations (I use the term loosely) to join it in a campaign against a particular media outlet is truly Orwellian. Within my lifetime, such a call would have been met with outrage. No longer.

Obama is disgusted with Israel and Fox News. The Taliban, Hamas & Iran, not so much.
Same here in canada. CBC CTV libs ndp and bloc are not too friendly with Israel and despise FOX NEWS.
KHADH, HEZBOLLAH, TAMIL-LTTE-TIGERS-TALIBAN-HAMAS are more their style.
I'm a spelling maven - I hate it when people spell BO's name as "Barak", or "Barrack" etc - so I must point out that Glenn has two n's.
Posted by: Erik Larsen at October 19, 2009 12:40 PMTo quote Jay Nordlinger:
"I keep hearing that Glenn Beck is just a blowhard opinionist, contributing nothing but hot air. If that is true, why do we keep learning news from him? About Van Jones, about ACORN, about Anita Dunn . . . I mean, isn’t that the New York Times’s job? No? What a strange era we’re living in."
To quote someone else - "I hope that Anita Dunn's middle initial is "B"."
Posted by: Erik Larsen at October 19, 2009 12:42 PMRSP, in my experience large corporations with stock holders to satisfy do not go out of their way to ignore income.
Currently the most successful news/opinion shows on TV and radio lean to the "right" as hard as they can and advertise that they are doing so.
EVERYBODY else, failures all, lean Left while pretending to be "unbiased". They've been tanking for several years now, even though the way to success is lit with neon arrows pointing the way.
They are bleeding money and audience so badly that the unwatchable O'Reily has more viewers than -all- the other network and cable news/opinion shows combined. Limbaugh gets $400 million a year for a frickin' radio talk show. He makes more money than Oprah, I think.
Therefore, in a capitalist system such as ours where only money talks, money must be talking to the guys who run these media companies. It must be talking really loud too, because their shareholders are screaming for their heads.
Its just an observation, I have no evidence other than their strange behavior. But you really have to wonder about Time Warner and GE etc., wtf are they thinking? Getting slaughtered, and lying there and taking it? This is not normal.

What a clown.
Glenn Beck is a great American hero, IMO. I never miss his show because he is proving what I have always suspected re: the current President and his minions. I saw Obama when he made his speech for the Demo convention prior to the last term of "W" - he was way too smooth to be real. I heard the msm gushing then as they did later - Glenn picked up on this gushing when he still worked for CNN; his program was abruptly ended.
Glenn is a millionaire and hires an expensive body guard - he is thorn in the side of the current administration because he is intelligent and courageous; something left wing nuts never are...agenda people are tunnel vision people. They look for their own metaphoric reflections and cannot see anyone or anything that is not of their own ilk. The left fanatics are not thinkers they are doers and if they are not 'busy' they are dead souls. The latter state of existence is what they fear. God saves the sanity of people and thus saves their souls. Glenn is a man of God.

Sanchez & Olberman, birds of a feather in their subtextual (and sometimes overt) hatred of Limbaugh and Beck. (Olberman's smear of Malkin was bizarre and indefensible.)
I still like the Phantom's line, which I will paraphrase and apply to Beck - "I don't agree with him, but often and many times he agrees with me".
Here is something about Sanchez I didn't know (wiki):
"On December 10, 1990, Sanchez struck a pedestrian, Jeffrey Smuzinick, with his car on a residential street near Dolphin Stadium after Smuzinick darted into the road. Smuzinick was paralyzed and eventually died in an assisted living facility in 1995. Sanchez, who had just left an NFL football game with his father (and left the scene of the accident), was not charged with causing the accident, but was charged with and pleaded no contest to DUI."
Posted by: Erik Larsen at October 19, 2009 3:37 PMUntil now, I didn't think the Obama administration was particularly incompetent. I just thought that they needed time to find their feet.
This fox hunting expedition, however, is bone headed. George W. Bush was savaged by the press in the last years of his administration, yet I don't recall him resorting to these tactics. Dubya knew that it's not the sort of battle that the White House can win.
If the Obama administration comes to be seen as a failure, the decision to declare war on Fox News will be the moment that they irrevocably jumped the shark.
Posted by: rabbit at October 19, 2009 4:04 PMAs I have tirelessly argued, Obama is a marxist.

As to Beck critics above, don't! Sure he's crazy -- but for a very good reason. He's a hard core true-blue American patriot-hero who understands the full enormity of the communist putsch that occurred in November 08, which was a outright fraud foisted on the American public. He gets it better than anyone, and he's a equal opportunity party-basher.
Don't be sucked into the US commie propaganda with American characteristics, which is attempting to get the cat certified mad which is just short of old-style commie forced hospitalization. Don't add your voice to criticism of Beck, no matter how annoying (grating) you find him. Please remember that if you find him grating and annoying it might be 'COS YOU GET IT. You're in the choir!

Posted by: Robert W. at October 19, 2009 6:22 PMGlenn Beck is a bit over dramatic and hard to listen to but in all honesty, if you listen to what he says, it is down right scary. The points he brings up are right on, he is just stating the facts and connecting the dots.
Has Mr Hope & Change actually done anything he promised? Just one solid example please.
Obama reminds me of Trudeau. Talk one thing while doing the opposite. Just like his speeches where anti-Anglo in Quebec while telling "English" Canada something else. Wish we would have had a Beck to expose that Charlie the Tuna.
MND, actually I meant that -despite- the fact Beck is grating, he's STILL in the top % of the ratings because of what he's covering. The truth is selling bigtime, and he's selling it.

Posted by: The Phantom at October 19, 2009 6:42 PMPhantom
My take on the seemingly irrational behavior of the MSM from the business perspective of (normally striving to) increasing shareholder value is that the media and journalism crowd are so doctrinaire in their statism advocacy that the concept of the customer being right is now extinct. The shareholders of these organizations should revolt but don't. They therefore deserve the loss of value that they have experienced with more to come. One can only conclude that these shareholders are either in the tank with the left-libers at the reigns or are mindless human ballast getting their just desserts.
The worst possible outcome is that the rent-seeking whores running the MSM are conspiring with the administration to shut Fox down.
Posted by: John G Chittick at October 19, 2009 6:55 PMThis is bad. No government has the right to shut down news nedia or opinion jurnals, nor talk radio stations. The Demcorats want to do this.

Posted by: RW at October 19, 2009 7:07 PMPraise the Obama or .... redneck slave!
Posted by: RW at October 19, 2009 7:07 PMBeck is annoying, but he keeps uncovering things that the administration would like not to be uncovered. But I wonder to what degree he plays into the hands of those who seek to marginalize conservatives.
For example, Anita Dunn's reference to Mao Zedong as a "favourite philosopher" is less evidence of her being a Communist than it is of her being a shallow, smart-arse child of the 1960s. And that is a more accurate characterization of many of Obama's team. I think of how many of my college classmates carried around that "Little Red Book", spouting some of Mao's money quotes alongside of those of Dr Seuss, and I know how many of them are now bankers, corporate lawyers, and even small business owners. They drive mini-vans, take their kids to soccer, and wear Che t-shirts to Starbucks. They are not Communists, but they are the heirs of an educational system and a media culture that has glorified a host of Communists from Pete Seeger and Paul Robeson to the Lincoln Brigades to Canadian doctor Norman Bethune.
They find Beck emotional, maudlin, melodramatic, and easy to dismiss. They learned well from the media that people who talk about loving America were rednecks, racists, likely Christian, probably stupid, often overweight, and dressed from Wal-Mart. They actually thought that the Weathermen were pretty cool in the early 1970s, and the ones who have surfaced since then, like Bill Ayers, seem to them just like .... regular folks. I think that this describes Anita Dunn and thousands just like her.
But let's not let the devil have all the good tunes; shouldn't we on the right be waving the Little Red Book and chanting, "Let a hundred flowers bloom; let a hundred schools of thought contend...."

Posted by: reg dunlop at October 19, 2009 7:53 PMHere's my take on your premise about motives. I commented on this before the US election, and I believe it still holds water.
Bailouts!
I believe the MSM threw all of their chips in the middle of the table "all-in" banking on government subsidies in the future to protect their jobs. After all, the MSM is a necessity for democracy because cable news, internet blogs and talk-radio isn't real news. This "all-in" move was inevitable considering the skewed coverage of GWB's presidency. McCain/Bush had to loose or else: MSM credibility gone. Think about it, if McCain won it would have meant that the MSM was wrong, it would have been a referendum on GWB's presidency that ran counter to the MSM narrative.
Anyways, my "all-in" scenario has played out exactly as I predicted in 08. NBC will receive money though the back door (GM) and Dan Rather(I think) was on TV a few months ago suggesting that the MSM may require and should receive a bailout.
Mark my words, the MSM will survive on the backs of the taxpayers; they're "too important to fail". Too important to the Democrats, and too important in their own minds.JMO
sorry the above is wrt Phantom's theory.

"Top White House Official Says Obama Team 'Controlled' Media Coverage During Campaign
The Obama campaign's press strategy leading up to his election last November focused on "making" the media cover what the campaign wanted and on exercising absolute "control" over coverage, White House Communications Director Anita Dunn told an overseas crowd early this year.
In a video of the event, Dunn is seen describing in detail the media strategy used by then-Sen. Barack Obama's highly disciplined presidential campaign. The video is footage from a Jan. 12 forum hosted by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development in the Dominican Republic.
"Very rarely did we communicate through the press anything that we didn't absolutely control," Dunn said, admitting that the strategy "did not always make us popular in the press."

"Thomas to White House : End Fox fight (If You've Lost Helen Thomas...)
Veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas on Monday advised the Obama administration to stand down and avoid fighting with Fox News and its correspondents.
In an interview with MSNBC, the columnist -- who is promoting her new book on presidents and their campaigns -- also stressed the White House ought to "stay out of these fights."
"They can only take you down. You can't kill the messenger," said Thomas, who has covered every president from John F. Kennedy to Barack Obama.
Whether the White House takes her advice, however, is another story. Just this weekend, Senior Adviser David Axelrod charged Fox was "not really a news organization." And Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel twice insinuated the channel was a danger to the craft of journalism itself.

Hi lookout, nice to hear from you again.
Yeah, I'm absolutely shocked at Frum's descent into elite-moonbattery.
In case you missed it, he opined that if Beck were offered TWICE the money and audience to express the OPPOSITE views, he'd go for it. I find that to be a colossal misreading of the man's character.
This is off-topic, but just to add that Frum has defended Cass Sunstein (sp?) who was one of his profs at Harvard. He's allegedly a regulation expert who specializes in cost-benefit analyses of said regulations. Yeah right. Whose cost? Whose benefit? The State, of course. He has also opined that America is too racist to be socialist. Well, as Buckley said of Harvard profs and phonebooks ...
