Getting shut down for asking questions in a room full of journalists.... seems surreal to me.
Posted by: Illiquid Assets at October 11, 2009 11:14 AMI have a Question for Al Gore, can you explain to me why it is so F'n cold here in Saskatchewan?
Posted by: DJ at October 11, 2009 11:15 AMYes Canada has jumped on the same bans-wagon by NOT permitting the world's foremost authority on polar bears, by NOT attending a conference because he stated that there is no problem and basically said there is NO Global Warming.
This is so Canada - on the world stage - can join the USA and other countries on the Cap & Trade tax - probably to be introduced in next budget.
The question I would ask Gore: Haven't we won, the earth is actually getting cooler over the past eight years and the sea levels have not raised 1 inch in thae same 8 years?

You can't embarrass the likes of Algore with the truth. He makes his living by lying and selling worthless carbon credits, he has no shame whatsoever.
None of them do. Fruitzooki, Algore, Barry the Wonder Prez, Pelosi, Bawney Fwank, these people are all the same. Shameless liars on the biggest power trip in American history.
Good on the reporter for having a go, anyway. Made Algore splutter a bit, at least.

It is that way in some countries now and those are also countries the welcome a one world global government.
Wait and see. It is real and it is happening right whilst we sit in front of our wide screens and palm screens and any other screen that shields us from reality.

That was a shameful display; journalists stopping another journalist from asking questions.
Hey everybody! Al Gore made a movie. A hollywood movie. He was a VP. And this makes him an environmental expert exactly how?
Posted by: Soccermom at October 11, 2009 12:19 PMDJ if you had asked why it's so cold he would have said imagine how cold it would be if it wasn't for global warming. Look at how he addressed the polar bear question. The fact that their numbers had increased did not deter from the feeling and the arbitrary determination that they are endangered.

Ah, the Global Warming Czar says the Debate is over.
On a side note: does look like Gore has lost some weight.
,
Al looks like he's lost a lot of weight. Looks good. Taking questions is new too. Hmmm.
It was a crap question too. There were dozens of better ones. For instance: do you still think AGW is irreversanle after 2020 (or whenever he said it was). You have advance notice that there will be Qs and that's the best you come up with?
And the questioner was stupid to respond to gores question. Better he insist that gore answer his first and then say he would answer gore's.
Opportunity missed.
Posted by: Gord Tulk at October 11, 2009 12:55 PMTonight, on The National (drum roll)
Al Gore finally took a tough question on Global Warming and failed miserably.
Keith, what does this mean for the whole Kyoto thing ?
Well, Peter, it means the world now realizes the whole thing is just a Carbon Cult. The mask is off. Peter.
Thanks Kieth. Now on to other news.
A United Nations report just out, claims the world is in imminent danger of running out of water.
Keith what doe this new and better apocalypse mean for our viewers ?
And look at the talking point response
"You Don't believe the Polar Bears are in danger?"
It is an article of faith that the Polar Bears are in danger, using the old pick a cute animal theory of advocacy.
Al doesnt want to address the question, detail you know, so messy.
This journalist has it right, approach it the same way as big business, big government and big oil...where is the money coming from and who benefits, along with testing the veracity of claims made by those who benefit.
CO2 may well add something to the warming of the earth....but AGW doesnt work the way it was advertised, and they havent revised the model.
Posted by: Stephen at October 11, 2009 1:02 PMCome on People... Al gore & Global Warming is DEAD... Obama can sign anything, like Clinton, on Y2Kyoto, but then the US Congress must agree to give up Federal Sovereignty, and then each State must give up Sovereignty ...Not a change in HELL
The Congress of the US can be shut down if 100 Million march on DC... The chance that the Congress would welcome that solution is pure fiction
AGW is a cap & trade SALES promotion.. the rubes are those that BUY bull Sh*t
It's quit noticeable in the local media when ever Greenpeace publishes a press release here in Alberta the media fatefully regurgitates it with no questions ask and takes it for fact.
Some journalists we have these days.
Good grief. This is a non-story. He should have asked GOOD questions, and concisely - he didn't. I agree with the guys at the end that this was not a one on one interview.
Why hearken back to the movie? That's old news. Get to the new data that pokes large holes in the AGW argument, why worry about what some judge said? You think that he's examined the science and can understand it?
The journalist didn't know his facts - he didn't know that polar bears *aren't* endangered.
This particular vid gets a big yawn from me.
Posted by: Erik Larsen at October 11, 2009 1:18 PMI agree with above comment, its all about cap and trade, it will be the biggest transfer of power from govt and the people to large corporations. The lefties and greens should be crapping thier pants about it , but no they are actually helping.

Posted by: John G Chittick at October 11, 2009 1:36 PMThe thing is though, Gore's movie caused a lot of people to jump on board - discredit Gore and the movie and those same people may also call BS.
Posted by: ron in kelowna at October 11, 2009 1:36 PMBut of course an actual rise in the Polar Bear population may not be proof positive against the Goreacle. I mean, without global warming the increase in the population would have been greater. So an increase in absolute numbers is meaningless. It's the relative numbers that count. The actual increased population vs. what it would have been absent Vice President Gore's work.
It's the same kind of unfairness being subjected upon President Obama: sure, there's unemployment of 10% (maybe even close to 17% counting involuntary part-time and drop outs) but absent President Obama's economic measures, it would have been way higher.
So you see, an increase in the Polar Bear population and a decrease in the number of gainfully employed workers doesn't actually mean that the former are UNendangered or that the latter are ENdangered.
Posted by: Me No Dhimmi at October 11, 2009 2:16 PMAbout Polar Bears, I said:

I meant to say: absent global warming.
Posted by: Me No Dhimmi at October 11, 2009 2:26 PMActually Polar Bears is a peripheral.
The centre piece of the IPCC reports, Gore's movie and AGW in general was Mann's Hockey Stick. The Hockey Stick has been killed, resurrected and reburied....and the MSM is silent.
It is not difficult to encounter sheeple who still think The Hockey Stick is recognized, proven science.
The key to public opinion, is to ensure the wide awareness of the fact that "The Hockey Stick" is discredited junk science.
sasquatch - exactly.

What you are saying is completely a guess. No wonder you support the global climate change theory. It's a theory based on guesses. Based on: if something might happen then maybe something else might happen.
Please tell me how Gore's work saved one polar bear hide. How does money save polar bears? How does awareness save polar bears? How do you know that there would have been a larger increase in the number of polar bears under stated conditions? YOU DON'T. You don't know any of that. You don't know that unemployment wouldn't have been just as high without Obama's stimulous spending. You're guessing. What you are talking about is a complete crapshoot. You must have a crystal ball hiding somewhere.
There was no journalism evident in that video.
Posted by: djb at October 11, 2009 3:05 PMErik Larsen: The journalist didn't know his facts - he didn't know that polar bears *aren't* endangered.

Gore's too slimy to be pinned down however.
Posted by: Nemo2 at October 11, 2009 3:29 PMNemo2, with respect I think tha the journo didn't do his homework before asking the question. (Animals can still be endangered with a rising population.)
Interestingly, the IUCN Red List states that the polar bear population is decreasing (incorrect), and lists the polar bear as "threatened".

**"Activists scale British Parliament, Big Ben
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
LONDON - Several dozen environmental activists have scaled Britain's Parliament building to draw attention to climate change.
Greenpeace said 55 of its members were atop the building Sunday with banners reading "Change the politics, save the climate."
It said the protesters scaled the neo-Gothic 19th-century landmark using ladders.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were speaking to protesters and there had been no arrests yet.
The group said they planned to stay overnight so they could welcome lawmakers, who return from their summer break on Monday.
On Monday, Parliament's Climate Change Committee is due to issue a report assessing how the government is doing on reducing emissions, meeting carbon budgets and building a low-carbon economy."

Rebecca: Are you new here? That was my lame attempt at satire. Lame because good satire you'd have got!
As Kate has demonstrated with her interminable The Sound of Settled Science threads, and as most folks here know, there is absolutely no scientific proof of the existence of man-made global warming nor general warming either as the warmest year was 1998.
If I'm not mistaken, that court also ruled that the film should not be shown in the schools without a warning that it is political propaganda. As far as I'm concerned, political propaganda, with or without a warning, ought not to be shown in the schools.
Michael Moore has the same reaction to questions.
I should know this intellectually but I'd still like to bat it around: do Michael Moore and Al Gore really think that they are authorities and no one should ever question them? How do these men get by everyday?
Do all those environmentalwackos believe in Darwins Theory of Evolution. If so why are they so hell bent and saving animals that Darwin claims will evolve into something else. Maybe a lot of those animals evolved into envirowackos.
Didn't Darwn preach survival of the fittest, so if those polar bears are not fit, let them die.

Osumashi Kinyobe - you're back too! I tried to stay away as per my Friday vow, but couldn't. Yeah re MM. That guy drives me crazy. Posted by: Erik Larsen at October 11, 2009 6:47 PMWhat drives me crazy is the likes of Michael Moore, Al Gore, et. al. typically will respond to inconvenient questions not with an actual answer, but with a question of their own, usually rhetorical in nature.
I noticed this most recently, the posted Gore video notwithstanding, on the Moore/Hannity interview (although I unfortunately missed the 2nd part of that interview). Every time Hannity asked a tough question, Moore simply responded with something along the lines of, "Do you really believe [insert talking point here]?"

Posted by: ron in kelowna at October 11, 2009 9:43 PMWell, Erik, I had to poke my head back in.
If these celebrities lived in any other country, they would never last.
On a Global program this evening they announced that the world is fast running out of water. It must have scared hell out of kids. Totally irresponsible. Water is oxygen and hydrogen, two of the most abundant elements on earth. Didn't Einstein say that matter cannot be destroyed? You want water, come live in Vancouver. I know I'm going to get static from all the science types out there, but I never majored in the subject and I stand by my gut feelings here.
Posted by: Larry Bennett at October 11, 2009 11:23 PMLarry, I've been noticing the water issue percolating beneath the surface for a few years now .... exactly the way global warming was doing during the 80's and early 90's before going "mainstream." Mark my words, it is the next apocalypse-du-jour for the eco-fascist crowd.
We see early vanguards in this "war" by such things as local bottled water bans, as well as looming state/provincial/federal taxes on other other bottled beverages, primarily soda, under the cover of health and obesity concerns.
We will be pummeled over the coming years with junk-science purporting to show water is Running Out, and that we need to Do Something in order to Avert A Crisis. Just like we now see some utility companies in the U.S. offering incentives for customer to give up control of their thermostats, we'll see similar actions for homes that are water-metered. Eventually, unless we the free citizens of the west stand up and say "No More," these voluntary measures will turn compulsory in creeping fashion.
I'm with you: how many millions of gallons of fresh water "wastefully" tumble into the seas and oceans every second, minute, hour, day, etc.? Water running out? Please.
Posted by: Colin from Mission B.C. at October 12, 2009 12:55 AMSo Al Gore doesn't like to answer questions. Why should anyone be surprised. He's just like David Suzuki - neither one wants to have his lack of scientific credentials paraded for all to see.
Posted by: Brian in Calgary at October 12, 2009 1:43 AMMy favorite meme about water is that one day the US is going to go war with Canada over water. I heard it again in an anti bottled water screed, err song, on NPR last night.
Let's say the Great Lakes fail, lets say the Mississippi dries up, along with the Susquehanna, Missouri, etc... All the while, Canada is unaffected. We would rather start a war than build build nuclear powered desalinization plants? On second thought, I can see the green left marching in the streets telling us that war with Canada was a better option than building nuclear power plants.
I would worry more about oil deposits, and that dictator in all but name with whom you share the Arctic, but hey, that's just me.
Posted by: tim in vermont at October 12, 2009 6:55 AMHow is Gore or any other 'shaman' different from those who came before? Scare the people about what is coming and thereby maintain your control and by the way get them to support you at the same time! When most people don't want to think for themselves it is an easy process.

Posted by: paul hamer at October 12, 2009 11:15 AMDJ, heh. Exactly. The frigid blasts are even now making their way from your province to my fair state. Just walking the dog becomes an exercise arctic logistics. The icy air really slows the response of my "quality" German retractable leashes as well. The dog runs back but the cord just lies there in the dirt until I slam the handle on the first available tree.
Posted by: Mazzuchelli at October 12, 2009 5:36 PMIt's amazing how many people fall for the 'water shortage' crisis, but don't examine the facts.
That somehow, as alluded to earlier, by conserving water in Victoria, will help the crisis in Africa. What? There is no correlation, but, it's the same twisted logic the warmongers use with the cute cuddly polar bears.
On a related note, the CRD recently announced it might have to raise water rates, because revenues are down.......and said revenues are down because (drum roll please)...........residents are paying attention to conservation programs, and using less water!
So, Victoria area taxpayers get penalized because we don't use enough water, but they will be penalized if we use TOO MUCH water!
Oh, and the CRD water commissioner is Nils Jenssen, a nice dyed-in-the-wool socialist NDP lawyer (from Oak Bay no less), go figure!
Another manufactured crisis of the left
