President Obama has come under attack for his “method” when trying to get the Olympic games for Chicago. Among points being made, is that Barack delivered a speech laced with hubris, and that the Chicago committee itself, recently taken over by Obama mentor, Valerie Jarrett, approached the process with ham-fisted arrogance . Be what it may, it’s not the Obama approach to the IOC that disturbs me.
I’m very concerned, nay stunned, at the colossal lack of judgement shown by not only Barack Obama, but by his advisory team, in sending the president to Copenhagen in the first place.
When I first found out that Obama was going to give a pitch directly to the IOC, I was bewildered. How could an advisory team allow such a risky move? How could Obama himself, not see that he was sticking his neck into a meat grinder that had no guarantees and very little in the way of reward?

Poor judgment, certainly, but the empty suit in the White House probably did less harm there than he would have had he actually been trying to do his job in Washington. It's sort of like getting your incompetent boss put on some corporate committee so that he has less time to interfere with your work.
Posted by: Silicon Valley Jim at October 6, 2009 12:48 PMBeautiful metaphor:
To return to the canine metaphor: It's the height of folly to think that other nations won't be doing everything they can to make President Obama their bitch.
"Obama himself, not see that he was sticking his neck into a meat grinder that had no guarantees and very little in the way of reward?"
It's called ego. The man truly thinks he can walk on water.
Not that I like the guy but he was in a Catch-22 situation. He still owes Chicago about 400 million. If he didn't go he would have been sans his roots and not pro America. The fact he pithed everybody off was a bonus.

THAT just sent a shiver down the ol spine!
I watch American senators and all involved in Ethic group they are not smart to analyst thing and people think by ban sanction in Iran over 30 years can progress anything are animal heart since only innocent civilian in Iran are hurt not government. Sanction only hurt Muslim in Iran and made them weak from two side from in and out and not able them to take their right and have good president in future since there are mentally and financially get weaken them and abused will cause not take their right back.
Sanction in economic made USA trade less accountable for most Asian people, did you ever see any body in peace in Israel or west USA and gain over it? Look at Egypt and ordon peace with Israel and look they could not stop Palestine peace go forward
Look at Arafat peace and still never gain over it, Look at peace with Iraq and Kiewit nothing came out of it or Look at Netanyahu seeing Madonna remember me of David Letterman to see entertainment and see under table adult to me too 2 in one shampoo
I thought Chicago was the "City of Big Shoulders". But it appears to be the "City of Sharp Elbows"
Posted by: Stephen at October 6, 2009 2:04 PMNice analysis, cjunk, and thanks for the links to the other articles. I found the American Thinker analysis particularly germane, as it comes upon the heels of similar analysis made on yesterday's The O'Reilly Factor. Bill didn't use the term 'Beta Male', but during his body language segment concluded that Obama's behaviour is suggestive of one who seeks to avoid confrontation.
It's a new angle on Bam Bam that heretofore I hadn't considered. I thought his chumming up with dictators and dissing of allies was more a case of ideological preference. But I now wonder whether the Beta Male theory might be a more accurate theory. It certainly would be consistent with the near-certainty the man is a pathological narcissist, one who seeks constant adulation, and avoids those who refuse to provide him with same.

Off topic (and many on these boards know this is a personal bugaboo of mine), may I suggest you revise the beginning of the 6th paragraph of your commentary? Your use of the phrase "begs the question" is incorrect. You should have said "raises the question".
The term "beg the question" references a specific fallacy in logic, more commonly known as the circular argument.

I think that "Beg the Question" is a short form for "Raises the Question that is not asked", in that the informed media does not ask what it should.. Therefore we must beg...Fuzzy Logic

I finally really grok why that is a curse. I am starting to think that bin Laden's blow to the US was a precise as any Amsterdam diamond cutter's. I think the real reason the bumbling fool, I mean Obama choose Biden is the echo of Osama bin Laden in Obama and Biden. Seriously. "Now do you forgive us our trespasses Osama?"

Posted by: Sgt Lejaune at October 6, 2009 3:44 PMI am slightly confused how to send you a tip. There is a funny story on cars and car ownership principles in Cuba at
http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/Story/A1Story20091005-171938.html
In particular this fragment:
"Cars tend to be cherished in countries where they are not easy to get, which is the case in Cuba.
A government minister must give approval for someone to buy a car legally, and in most cases even when it is purchased, it still belongs to the state.
Only people who bought a car before the revolution or those who afterward were granted the right to purchase one for personal or political achievements actually own their vehicles.
For those who get permission, a new, basic Lada can be bought for the equivalent of about US$5,000. A black market exists, where the purchaser buys the car for about three times the normal price, but it remains registered in the name of the original owner."
I found it hilarious

OMG! Obama lied the country into a purposeless war in which 4000 Americans were needlessly killed while pulling out of the Geneva Convention and using the same torture techniques as the Nazis!
No - he made a pitch for the Olympics and 1000s of garment-rending conservatives cheered on the US for not succeeding in getting them.
Fail!

No this is fail. LOL!
are there any precedents for the head of state, nation's elected leader, revered past leader(s) making personal appearances in front of the IOC? and what is the success rate of these personal appeals?
well we gots a precedent now eh !
it might be a precedent but he ain't no president.

Slap Shot, you accurately describe how many folks use the phrase, but it is nevertheless incorrect in the classical sense. I don't wish to threadjack further, but would direct you to begthequestion.info for further details. Or, just google "beg the question" -- lots of good sites come up.

"Obama lied the country into a purposeless war" Name a lie.
"while pulling out of the Geneva Convention" Really? Which article did he violate?
"the same torture techniques as the Nazis!" Really? Standing for extended periods of time, not letting a terrorist leader who knew of attacks, as was later proven, sleep or leaving him in a cold room naked. Notice I didn't mention waterboarding. That was not found to be torture, as far as I know. Maybe you could find the link to where it was by some official body and help me out.
As for "needless", that is a matter of opinion, so I won't call you out on that one.
bleet, I don't think you have any clue about anything you say. We show you time and time again that your facts don't hold up. Why do you keep trying? It must bother your ego to constantly be proven wrong.
OMG....what...

Posted by: zebjao at October 7, 2009 12:47 AMThey always respond with a rhetorical question. Almost every time. You could make book on it.
Posted by: tim in vermont at October 7, 2009 6:31 AMBy the way, I am throwing down here, on a widely read blog, questioning some widely held, but I believe false, beliefs. I won't respond to posts of just links or whole articles cut and pasted. The expectation there is that I am supposed to read the entire article and pick out the points that I think seem to refute my argument and refute them. That is a waste of time. I have tried that in the past, if I prove on item is false, then the response is, "well, that was a weak point, what about the rest?"
So short quotes from what you believe to be your strongest arguments followed by links to mainstream media sources only please.
C'mon bleet. This will be like taking candy from a baby.
