Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome to SDA Late Nite
Radio. Tonight, for your delectation, here is an apparently rare
version of Chilliwack performing Crazy Talk in 1974 (2:51).
Paraphrasing from the associated blurb...
This track was issued in Canada in November of 1974 on Goldfish 110, and was produced by Terry Jacks. Compared to the LP version and the mix available on CD, this version is overdubbed with extra drums, guitars and effects, parts of Bill Henderson's vocal are redone, and editing was done to rearrange the order of the verses. It has never been included on an album or reissued on CD.
Note that the she in this song is a dangling pronoun reference,
which is always good for a bit of philosophy, or at least fun.
Your Reader Tips are, as always, welcome in the comments.
A Calgary CTV poll that NEEDS to go horribly wrong:

Coderre is one. Who are the other 8?
Posted by: Lorraine at October 1, 2009 9:13 PMThe CTV poll doesn't seem to have a Crazy Talk option ;-)

Actually...I do agree that the Olympic Canadian logo resembles the CPC logo.
However, it's silly to blame PM Harper and the CPC. There aren't too many artsy ways to present the C for Canada with the Maple leaf.
Perhaps the could have borrowed from the TO Maple Leafs (Blake just scored 3-2 for TO over Montreal)
Oh - I guess only 3 Liberals were missing - Coderre, LeBlanc and Joyce Murray. The speaker does not vote. So there were 73 Liberal Nays.
Must have been a few BLOC not showing up.

Thanks Vitruvius, brings back many fond memories, at the Cultus Lake pavilion, where in 1969 almost every weekend we were privileged see "The Collectors" now known as Chilliwack for $2 a head.

See? Even in the heart of conservativism land, the leftie MSM still think they have a say.Twits.
"There aren't too many artsy ways to present the C for Canada with the Maple leaf."
So true! When I first heard the complaint, I thought they were joking -- then was quite astonished to gradually realize the complaint was serious. 99 out of 100 would have designed something very similar given the parameters. And what about those Liberal colours on the Canadian flag -- we should complain about that too.
Posted by: LindaL at October 1, 2009 10:50 PMNo LindaL, we should complain it looks like a beer can label. :)
Posted by: qwerty1 at October 1, 2009 10:59 PMSaw Lord Monkton's presentation at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce today -- an excellent speaker, lots of hard facts and figures. I'll be interested to see how (if) the media covers him. I wouldn't expect too much of the CBC.
Posted by: DrD at October 1, 2009 11:40 PMGlobal Calgary had a story about Lord Monckton (with sound bites from His Lordship) on their 6 o'clock program - which included an Ipsos poll result on global warming skepticism broken down tree ways: nationally, Calgary only and Montreal only. It will probably be on the 11 o'clock program as well.

Posted by: chris at October 2, 2009 12:22 AMBoth the Olympic logo and the Conservative party logo owe a lot to the old RCAF logo. See examples below.
A classic design which was scrapped by the Liberals back in the mid-60's during unification.
I think Hedy Fry and Charlie Angus have too much time on their hands. The Bay's designer couldn't believe their allegations.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/opinions/has-harper-found-his-tipping-point/article1308821/
Has Harper found his tipping point?
Prime Minister Stephen Harper stands to vote against the Liberal no-confidence motion in the House of Commons on Oct. 1, 2009.
In a historic shift, the Tories have seized the centre and are set to become the natural governing party
In this autumn of our usual discontent with politics and politicians, we do not seem to be noticing that the balance between Canada's major parties is at or very near a historic tipping point. Stephen Harper's Conservatives have seized the central ground of the political spectrum and are poised to become the country's natural governing party. The Liberal Party is floundering in uncertainty and disunity, unsure of what it stands for and badly led. We appear to be on the verge of the great historic shift in party fortunes that Conservatives have hoped for, but have regularly failed to achieve, for more than a century.
It's a truism that Prime Minister Harper has abandoned his Reform Party dogmatism and is trying to govern Canada from the centre. In one area after another – stimulus spending, foreign policy, support for the arts, economic development, co-operative federalism, as well as naked pork-barrelling and shameless self-promotion, the Conservatives are implementing policies that might have been drawn from the Jean Chrétien-Paul Martin songbook. Particularly on economic policy and their response to the recession, the Conservatives hold the political centre so thoroughly that Liberals have no idea whether to attack the government from the right (for spending too much) or from the left (for spending too little). The government's policies are broadly acceptable to Canadians, it continues to inch upward in the polls, and it would very likely eke out a majority in a general election today.
The Official Opposition seems to have lost its way. No one has the foggiest idea of what Canada's Liberals stand for, save for a return to Pearsonian diplomacy and Team Canada missions. Having so badly bungled such policy issues as the carbon tax in last year's election, the party is literally afraid to advocate new initiatives. Having committed an act of transcendent political lunacy in agreeing last winter to a coalition with the NDP, with separatist support, the Liberals have left themselves far more vulnerable to the “hidden agenda” card than Mr. Harper's Conservatives have ever been.

Long-Awaited Invention
Finally, Beer-Proof Lederhosen on Sale at Oktoberfest
By David Crossland
Newly invented lederhosen-style swimming shorts are going on sale at this year's Munich Oktoberfest as a beer-proof alternative to the traditional leather breeches. Folk costume aficionados may frown -- but the Austrian designer behind them says he's rejuvenating Alpine culture, and introducing it to a global audience.
It may just be the perfect garment for a beer-soaked visit to the Munich Oktoberfest starting this Saturday -- lederhosen-style swimming shorts. The invention by Austrian restaurant owner Peter Kolb has taken Austria by storm in recent months and will be going on sale in two of the 14 giant beer tents.
Kolb, 41, says they're a cheaper and more user-friendly alternative to the traditional leather breeches that will be worn by many of the 6 million visitors to the world's biggest beer festival which will open its gates on Sept. 19 for two weeks to the sound of Bavarian Oompah bands and yodelling folk dancers.

Enjoyed the Chilliwack clip very much.
The USA is probably only starting to be aware of how quickly it is losing stature and importance in the world. By the recent financial debacle and the completely inept manner in which they are "debting" their way out of debt (does that make any sense?) they are squandering the remaining slender vestiges of respect on the world stage. It will take a while and it will be tragic but I fear the fall of the mighty USA. I'm reminded of the poem Ozymandias.
I think Chicago losing out on the first round is an indication of how the USA has lost respect.
