"That is why I'm here"

Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!

Barack Obama, Berlin, July 2008 - "In this new world, such dangerous currents have swept along faster than our efforts to contain them. That is why we cannot afford to be divided. No one nation, no matter how large or powerful, can defeat such challenges alone. None of us can deny these threats, or escape responsibility in meeting them. Yet, in the absence of Soviet tanks and a terrible wall, it has become easy to forget this truth. And if we're honest with each other, we know that sometimes, on both sides of the Atlantic, we have drifted apart, and forgotten our shared destiny."

Politico, September 2009 - "Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed today that he declined last night to take a call from the U.S. informing him of the decision to scrap planned missile-defense bases in his country. Two U.S.-based sources close to the Polish government said Thursday that Tusk also rejected a call from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — on the grounds that, as the head of the government, he should speak to the president."

(From the comments) "Rebuild our international relationships after eight years of unilateral action" much, Mr. President?

O: "In this new world, such dangerous currents have swept along faster than our efforts to contain them"

Um, especially when your efforts are in full retreat.

It's getting crowded under that bus.

Posted by: Eskimo at September 18, 2009 5:19 PM

The Polish and Baltic States (Latvia, Estonia etc.) should be nervous. This is open encouragement to Putin to do a bit of expansion. My guess is the Ukraine will be the first step provided oil prices hold up. Donald Tusk is a bit of a character. My guess is he would have preferred a Republican President to a pseudo communist.

Posted by: LT at September 18, 2009 5:22 PM

So when the poles (and the Czechs et al) decide (they probably did yesterday) to build nukes of their own the us shouldn't be surprised that they first hear about it via a seismograph reading. One unilateral act begets another I always say.

Well Eskimo, as the song went earlier this year:

Russia isn't planning on expanding, otherwise they wouldn't have stopped at just spanking the Georgians last year.

The leaders of Poland and the Czech Republic seem to have forgotten that promises from Western countries are just as meaningless now as they were in 1938/39.

Posted by: ulianov at September 18, 2009 5:49 PM

Love that comment jwkozak91 and it deserves the bold too!

But really, let's not be Brits with post-colonial phantom limb complexes. The US is spent. The US era is over. The US is technically bankrupt.

But you gotta enjoy the dark humour of Hillary getting the dirty work and not even being able to do it.

As Kathy Shaidle might be imagined putting it: let the damn Europeans West and East look after their own damn defence.

Although your pronouncements, to this point, have bordered on foolishness, I sincerely hope that you're right with this one.

"Russia isn't planning on expanding"

says a know nothing fool, they defacto expanded into Georgia, but hesitated because George had his finger on the trigger, now that OwebamaRahm can't even find the gun, we'll see what Pooteen's next move is in this area

Posted by: GYM at September 18, 2009 7:10 PM

Like I have been saying. Time for Canada to go nuclear as in missiles. It looks pretty plain from this hill that Obama would leave us flapping in the wind with an aggressive Russia & China. An Islam on the rise all over the planet. Hey, noodle head thinks all is quiet.
America cannot even be trusted to look after its own interests from this pseudo-messiah.
Hell he's even put his own troops in danger with HIS new ROE's (Rules of engagement). More died today that didn't have to. This man disgusts me. He is destroying the greatest Republic of History. Can you imagine this guy defending the arctic, which both China & Russia want?
Lets get real folks we have the 2nd largest Nation on the planet with a population near starving in size.
Like Israel we have to start depending on ourselves.

Palin 2012!

Posted by: janet at September 18, 2009 7:36 PM

And whose submarine was toodeling up the St.Lawerence River this past spring?

Most likely the Ruskies.

Canada may well have to consider nukes and point them to the north.
Tough to do though, with two crypto-commie Canadian and one socialist party in opposition.

Palin 2012?

You want the left to go beserk, like running out into the streets and mass suicides beserk?

Beck/Palin 2012

Posted by: Doug at September 18, 2009 8:09 PM

Tee! Beck/Palin.
Where can Poland go after this? Surely someone, somewhere must fulfill its promises to that particular country.

Posted by: Osumashi Kinyobe at September 18, 2009 8:32 PM

As we rely on the US to help strengthen our claims to the Arctic this could bode ill for us. We are used to the US claiming things and they would I'm sure, that isn't the same as being sold down the river.

Posted by: Speedy at September 18, 2009 8:33 PM

As I have read elsewhere, this insult occured on the 70th anniversary of the invasion of Poland by Germany and Russia.

Obama;s regime, if not Obama himself (?), is setting a trend of international(intentional) insult. First Gordon Brown, PM of the UK; then Stephen Harper, PM of CXanada; now Poland.

This guy, Obione, doesn't give a toss about anything other than his reflection in his kind's eye. He is carried along on the shoulders of the Chicago mob as a figurhead, a fig-leaf.

I must say that if one studies history, it is obvious that all players in the game of state take immediate advantage, and push it as far as they can, of the errors of the other players.

Remember that the ONEder didn't study history.

Posted by: zilla at September 18, 2009 8:58 PM

"...they defacto expanded into Georgia, but hesitated because George had his finger on the trigger..."

Hahaha. What idiocy. The Georgians launched a pre-emptive strike and got their asses kicked. If the Russians wanted to, they could have taken over the whole country and there would be bugger all the US, or any other country, could do about it without risking a nuclear war.

"Surely someone, somewhere must fulfill its promises to that particular country."

Poland is a part of NATO. Either that means something or it doesn't. Having a US missile shield adds little to Poland's security...if anything it just makes them more of a nuclear target. Claiming that this shield is to be used against "rogue states" is disengenuous and only a fool would believe it...this was meant purely to antagonize the Russians, and that's not the smartest thing to do.

Posted by: ulianov at September 18, 2009 9:05 PM

Many folks around our world hold the United States solely responsible for the mess in world affairs.
Mr Obama and the leadership of the democratic party subscribe to that view.
He has made no secret that he would change things to fit his agenda. He has appointed people who have the same lack of respect for American history that he has.
The authority of his office gives him the right to do what he is doing. We had better get used to the changes he is making.
Canadians are fortunate because our lives are not on the line as are folks in other countries.
Would you rather be in Israel or the Georgian Republic?
I find it difficult to understand why a lot of Canadians do not accept that very few human beings on earth have not even a tiny bit of freedom. We are the few!
The embryo of the huge changes now underway in America began way back in the 1930's with the "wobblies" and are just now coming to fruition.

We are seeing the ascension of a tough ideological event. No one is guaranteed
a tomorrow and no one is guaranteed freedom!

There is much more to come!

Ulianov, start brushing up your history. Russia handed out passports to the Ossetians BEFORE they launched an attack on the Georgians.

Posted by: Osumashi Kinyobe at September 18, 2009 11:31 PM

Osumashi Kinyobe - The Russians have also been issuing passports within the last year to Russian-speakers in the Crimea (Ukraine).

Posted by: Black Mamba at September 18, 2009 11:37 PM

These are interesting times indeed.
I was chatting with some very conservative american associates recently---and one blurted out---"Palin--she's crazy--"
To which I responded---"and Obozo is sane?"......
on reflection this fellow realized that this was a reflex from MSM.....
That reflection was hopeful---that guy was x-psy-ops......
He then commented "I guess we have really deteriorated beside just our wastelines..."
This made me wonder how much the MSM repetition succeeds......????
"where's the beef???"

Yes, the Russians really do know how to stir the trouble-muck, don't they? Why people think they would be happy under Putin, I do not know.

"this was meant purely to antagonize the Russians"

What possible purpose would that serve?

Posted by: biffjr. at September 18, 2009 11:56 PM

Not having their way antagonises the Russians.

Posted by: Osumashi Kinyobe at September 19, 2009 12:00 AM

...this was meant purely to antagonize the Russians, and that's not the smartest thing to do.

Either Russia is a threat, or it isn't. Leftists should make up their mind.

They bankrupted themselves in the arms race (socialism can't compete, hence all the compulsion), maybe they'll do it again. A weak Russia is a good Russia.

Not a word about this on the msm news I have had the tv on all day, unless I missed the tiny ticker messages at the bottom.

I think our days are numbered. The world situation right now is truly frightening and I am not often given over to paranoia. He is not a leader - he is an absolute maniac. I agree with who ever said we must defend ourselves. We certainly can not count on the US - all they want is our resources; water, oil, and mines and if that snake Ignatieff gets in - he will hand it all over on a silver platter.

One wonders why commie sympathizers in the West, like our resident troll uli, never put their money where their mouths are, and relocate to Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, or any other workers' paradise.

It's a rhetorical question of course. We all know why: they're nothing but poseurs.
