That'll Teach Him

"You can tell from the general run of incidents that the proprietors feel they need to take some actions to ensure the long-term credibility of the papers..."

The "actions" include reinstating Jamie Irving as vice-president a mere six weeks after using the New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal to launch a fabricated political hit piece.

Did anyone really expect the family to leave him out of the job for more than a token period?

Come on now, this is the Irvings we are talking about here.

Only the little people actually take the hit.
To the Irvings, that obviously includes our Prime Minister.
No matter, just another bunch no one of any intelligence reads any more.

Copy-cop poppycock.

Utterly appalling...and typically Kanadian.
The soft totalitarianism of the Family Compact scumbags, at it's best.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..it was the Maritimes"

One would expect that this person as his first act on reinstatement will publicly and truthfully disclose all facets of the scenario and the Liberal perpetrators involved in the incident which resulted in his dismissal. A pledge to run a real newspaper that will step on all deserving toes regardless of their political, religious, or business affiliation might also help.

Guess he had a nice vacation.

Tell all? Not a chance. Why would he?He got his job back without any consequences.

The Irvings don't believe they can go bankrupt I guess, and therefore think they can get away with treating their customers like imbeciles.

Well, this -is- Canada. They could be right. People around here have a seemingly infinite tolerance for bad behavior in the media.

Phantom, the Irvings own every daily newspaper in New Brunswick. No, they're not going bankrupt any time soon.

Ian, I think there may be one in the Miramichi they do not have. Or is that a weekly?

Posted by: AtlanticJim at September 10, 2009 12:09 PM

They Can Do Better.

Posted by: shaken at September 10, 2009 12:38 PM

Yes, but they did the responsible thing and hired a babysitter instead of leaving the kid office-alone.

The Irvings. That says it all.

It's actually a little surprising that nobody has been able to dig up the real story here. (Of course, I mean for the purpose of publishing it!)

One has to assume that people have tried. You would think that one of the reporters involved would have a new job by now and a willingness to bare all. This may turn up in someone's memoirs decades from now.

Posted by: political junkie at September 10, 2009 3:31 PM

I thought it was just a weekly, Jim, though I've only ever spent a couple days up in Miramichi so I don't know for sure.

junkie, as I said, the Irvings own all the papers. A reporter would have to move out of province to get to a paper where s/he could bare all for a new boss.

Posted by: Ian in NS at September 10, 2009 6:08 PM

The Irvings have been treating their little patch of Canadian geography like a personal fifedom for 100 years or so.
Along with that the peasants .... in sufficient numbers ... are effin idiots ... as they keep buying what the Irvings excrete.

As for Jamie ... he'd lose his job at his family rag like Sheila Copps resigned.

Posted by: OMMAG at September 10, 2009 8:29 PM

political junkie, it was L'Acadie Nouvelle(french paper out of Moncton or Caraquet) that reported it and the Irving paper plagiarized it.
