I just read that the Regina Leader-Post, originally know as the Leader, the newspaper that documented the hanging of Louis Riel, will now be outsourcing work to India and the Philippines. That's the paper that once supported the labour unions in Tommy Douglas' and Roy Romanow's heyday! Now that is a surprise!! Check the story out on CBC.Ca!!

On Friday the Toronto Sun ran an article by John Cartwright, president of the Toronto & York Region Labour Council that provides the standard left-labour "solutions" to our economic problems, i.e., more of the poison that is killing us.

Let's start at the end: "Our message on this Labour Day weekend is very clear: We want Canada and the world to have a sustainable economy which provides good jobs and a decent quality of life for all".

That would be wonderful. Yet so much of what socialists and the labour movement stand for serves to impede this. The hard-working man or woman on the factory floor won't have much wages left for a decent lifestyle if too much is taken in taxes to pay for non-productive bureaucrats in government, for example.

"Income inequality has grown to the worst levels in decades, with far too many of our neighbours stuck in precarious, unstable jobs."

Likely true, but again that's mostly because of the taxes and regulation that hinder business productivity and proper job creation.

"All levels of government must act on behalf of working families, not just business interests."

They've been doing that for decades, and look at the results. The proper course of action is to remove government interference from both labour and business affairs, notably the subsidies to the latter, and to streamline the tax system.

"Effective unemployment insurance is a crucial element in long-term economic recovery."

No it isn't. It's a stopgap measure only, because it pays people who are currently unproductive. But the socialists and welfare statists want to jam the rolls so they can pretend to be giving people something for nothing. However, in tough times, some loosening of the EI requirements might be indicated, on a temporary basis only.

"And we have to make sure equity is part of the overall plan."

If that means the quota system brought in by Bob Rae and scrapped by Mike Harris, forget it. That's exactly the kind of parasitic bureaucracy the workers do not need.

I have a colony of yellowjackets who seem to eat the pesticides I ve thrown at them.

One contains .5% Propoxur (applied five time in two weeks!)
the other a foam you fill the nest with at night contains d-trans-allethrin, N-octyl Bicycloheptene, and Permethrin. (applied twice in two days).

They should all be dead, I would think. Any thoughts?

Interesting comment by the mayor of Sudbury about the strike in their nickle mining company Vale Inco. He is not too worried about the economy of Sudbury being too badly impacted as the city has other areas of economic growth to tide them over. These other areas are health, education and government. The mayor of Oshawa had the same reply as GM goes down the tubes.

So the loss of private sector jobs that create real wealth are now being replaced by GOVERNMENT employment and this is somehow a good thing!
