"So to all those journalists reading this"

"Stop blithely propagating Taliban lies as though there were no consequences to those actions."

Can't we say the same about Global Warming?

Stop blithely propagating Al Gores Lies

Yet, the "professional" journalists suffer apoplexy when they "report" on the horrendous tactics employed by the vast right wing conspiracy that infiltrates and corrupts Town Hall Meetings (oh the horror, they raised their voices), yet bleeds for beheaders, child murderers and miscreants like the worthless little scumbag that festers away down in Gitmoville.

Rotten to the core are they for their quixotic, situational morality.

"Specifically, insurgents will try to capitalize on the role public opinion plays in democracies, and will deliberately stage events and coordinate operations to undermine the will of domestic audiences of campaigning nations in order to cease their participation in the campaign."

The success of this approach is based on "domestic audiences" being abysmally stupid.

Although many fall into this category (Jack Layton immediately comes to mind), hopefully most of us haven't degenerated to this extent.

I've been meaning to ask Jacko how you say 'Collateral Damage' in Taliban? Just what is the term for these unarmed and coincidental victims?

...what do you mean there is no term? But 'target' will have to suffice??

that must have hurt!!

"The success of this approach is based on "domestic audiences" being abysmally stupid."--- Unfortunately some are. The problem with the 'reporting' as it is,is that those who may not be stupid still need information to make an informed opinion. If the only thing they hear is the slanted 'they are just like us' and 'our soldiers regularly commit atrocities',the people will start to believe that. This 'reporting' undermines support for the troops and though it may not be treasonous,it is certainly immoral, unethical, and it is not journalism.

A Media War? Gee who would have thought that planting false stories in the MSM would help any cause politically?

Really?

People we as a society are not as naive as we appear to be, we are apathetic without doubt and that is our problem... we just want to live our lives and not have to worry about political stuff.

Do NOT confuse that for stupidity, misinformation or uneducated opinions formed by scare tactics like the Left does, it is disengagement and they count on it.

When things like wartime sympathy starts appearing in the MSM people tune it out except for the lefties. People trust the military to do the job, so they do not care.

If people start to get engaged the results are not what the left want, because most of North America is center right on the full spectrum. The left counts on a huge portion of the population not caring until its too late.

The Taliban's best weapon in their war against us is not their IEDs or their suicidal bombs. The weapon that does the most damage is their supportive western media.
With glee they tell us the ever increasing Canadian death toll but not the Taliban's death toll. If they are going to keep score they should at least give the scores of both sides.
When we reached the 100 mark we got lots of air time and lots of words in print, lots of negative, not much positive.
They are an effective weapon and need to be recognized as such. They like to see themselves as the fifth estate but in this war they look more and more like a fifth column gnawing away at public support.
The media, through their words, support the actions of the Taliban either knowingly or not.

The "mainstream" media of today is the Tokyo Rose of yesterday.

Much like most Viet Nam vets....there remains a lot of bitterness as to how to the glee of the NVA...OUR media snatched defeat from the jaws of victory visa-vis the Tet Offensive.
At least Hanoi Hannah played decent music.......

The media does a disservice to us all with their biased journalism. Though many trust we are doing the right thing, little by little the public is being 'brainwashed'. This will eventually result in more votes against military deployment and spending. As the people, consciously or not,are continually fed misinformation, they will tell their MP's to vote against military bills. On close calls this could be devastating.Toronto, with the Star and the Globe and Mail are a fine example. Another fine example is the Israel/Palestine conflict. What do we hear of more, the purported genocide by Israeli troops,or the 50 to 60 rockets launched daily by the Palestinian? This conflict (aside from the complicated land issues) is straghtforwardpoke an ape in the eye often enough and you will get hurt.Yet,if you ask the average Joe or Jane, they will be doubtful of the Israeli response to the constant poking. I want the whole story from those who are telling, esp. the cbc,but we are not getting it.

A noble appeal, but it will fall on deaf ears. The urinalists are part of the movement to sink us. They are aided and abetted by the rest of the media chatterers, most of academe, the public school system, the unions and the political classes.

I swear if I see one more interview with that scumbag lawyer of Omar Khadr, I will finally take the pledge and give up the idiot box.

Its easy to fix this, y'know. Just stop reading the paper, and shut off the TV.

Posted by: The Phantom at August 26, 2009 6:23 PM

Well, Phantom, that fixes it for thee and me and John Prine, but unless we can get everyone to do the same, these bastards will continue to manipulate and misinform.

bastards will continue to manipulate & misinform.

I guess those bastards are going to continue to manipulate and misinform ...

The top three things that get the Canadian MSM (with some commendable exceptions) all excited about Afghanistan:

#3. Combat operations

#2. Canadian casualties

AND

#1. Some allegation of misconduct, irregardless of how flimsy and often from the enemy, against members of the CF.

Posted by: Bart F. at August 26, 2009 8:45 PM

The MSM have shit in their own nest, and nobody "TRUSTS" what they say including the friends of Obama.. They are redundant ... The same opinions by the same people are just repeated over & over. MSNBC must be getting boring to people without severe memory loss.. watch it once and you got the whole shtick.
It's like the movie "Ground Hog Day"

The emerging Technology obsoletes them anyway in 5 years, and some form of News (Trusted) will take the place of the Network crap & cheap talking heads.

Being disengaged IS naivete in action.
Civilization is a garden carved out of a jungle in the middle of a vast desert.

Apathy is not a suitable sustainable survivable default position for the citizen of a liberal democracy.

Apathy means people trust the government, which is a mistake, because the government is the enemy no matter how beneficent it temporarily appears to be.

Posted by: Oz at August 27, 2009 1:09 PM

OZ Said..

"Being disengaged IS naivete in action."

Since the Quote is orginally mine...

No it is not, that is a falsehood, being unaware is naivete in action. Believing everything you are told is naivete in action.

Being disengaged from the process is apathy. One can have a well formed and educated opinion and be disengaged from the howling and messy political process because of frustration and disgust by the behaviours of the activists and until impacted directly do not seek to be engaged, unfortunately when it is too late in many cases as I pointed out and supported by sasquatch.
