Now Is The Time At SDA When We Juxtapose!

Jonathan Adler, August 22nd;

Let's see now. Deficit projections are once again on the rise as Obama's approval rating falls. Health-care reform is faltering, climate-change legislation is stalled, and David Axlerod is under fire for his conflicts of interest. Seems like a good time to change the subject. Contents of the CIA inspector general's report on harsh interrogation methods have already leaked, so it won't do the trick. If I were a betting man, I'd expect something else to drop Monday or Tuesday.

Charles Krauthammer, August 25th;

Well, it is a hell of a coincidence, isn't it? The administration is in a deep health-care debate, a national debate, and every hour that passes, support for [Obama's] plans are diminishing and his own popularity is tanking. All of a sudden, this issue explodes on a Monday.

Friday, the administration — at 5 o’clock, after hours — releases a $2 trillion error in estimates of deficits, and on a bright Monday, you get this re-litigation of the Bush administration all of a sudden exploding upon us.

Look, I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I'm not a child. It's not a coincidence.

Coming soon to a NYT's headline near you.

Sounds familiar. From Season 1 of "The West Wing" (1999), we have this priceless little exchange:

-----------------

DONNA
What's 'Take Out the Trash Day'?

JOSH
Friday.

DONNA
I mean what is it?

JOSH
Any stories we have to give the press that we're not wild about we give all in a lump
on Friday.

DONNA
Why do you do it in a lump?

JOSH
Instead of one at a time?

DONNA
I'd think you'd want to spread them out.

JOSH
They've got X column inches to fill, right? They're gonna fill them no matter what.

DONNA
Yes.

JOSH
So if we give them one story, that story's X column inches.

DONNA
And if we give them 5 stories...

JOSH
They're a fifth the size.

DONNA
Why do you do it on Friday?

JOSH
Because no one reads the paper on Saturday.

DONNA
You guys are real populists, aren't you?

---------------

And THAT was with a "President" who was not only a compelling speaker, but also a Nobel Prize-winning economist!

Of course, Stockard Channing didn't have Michelle's toned arms or anything...

This aggressive offence against the CIA would suggest that Obama & Dems are attempting to suppress damaging CIA information. It’s a form of intimidation

It's foolish in the extreme to tangle with the CIA, they have access to global inter-agency intellegence on the activity of Americans abroad...The CIA are not stupid

Something is not right

Posted by: Phillip G. Shaw at August 25, 2009 2:27 PM

And apart from the lunatic fringe, how many Americans care at this point in history if the CIA and Cheney allegedly abused protocols of interrogation? They're more likely to thank them, but obozo and his crew are too stupid to know that, or perhaps too desperate to care. Sadly, they'll be able to do untold damage with this despicable attempt to distract the public.

Taking a page right out of Harper's book.

You folks did go on about the big influence Harper had on Obama.

First it was using effectively using take out the trash day. Then it was spending more than we can pay back by our great-grandchildren's time without any plan to pay down the deficit other than more "borrow and spend" policies. Then it was grossly and incompetently undermining the deficit.

What's next? Watch for Obama to arbitrarily cancel Congress for a month in order to save his own job, keep his grip on power and gear up his propaganda machine against the insurance company "coalition".

Posted by: fernstalbert at August 25, 2009 2:53 PM

Typo: that should be "it was grossly and incompetently underestimating the deficit." It is the democracy these "borrow and spend" Democrats/Conservatives are undermining, not the deficit.

Posted by: K Stricker at August 25, 2009 3:09 PM

Ted, you are full of shite. The Conservatives had been paying down the debt to the tune of 35 billion dollars before the left forced their hand by demanding that they go into deficit spending. The separatist coalition then claimed that we were not spending enough. The Harper govt then said as a result of this deficit spending, we would run a controlled deficit.

The left then claimed that Harper was incompetent because we were going into deficit!!

If the PM had not asked parliament to be prorogued, Canada would have been stuck with a coalition of the left led by a trio of Marxist inspired leaders, including one which had just guided his party to one of its most historic defeats in modern times.Only by giving a veto to the Marxist separatist Duceppe, could this cabal of losers hope to govern, as any two parties could not match the vote totals Canadians had given the Conservatives to govern on their behalf.

You should be on your knees thanking God that PM Harper and the Conservatives maintained control and have led us through this recession.Canada is now poised to be one of the first G8 countries to emerge from this recession healthy and thriving.

Canada has nothing to learn from an administration that tells its people 'the big lie', suppresses dissent, has Gestapo like snitch lines, cowtows to dictators, encourages thugs to break up political rallies etc. ad nauseum.

Where there is smoke there is fire, and your hero Barry one term is about to go down in a firestorm that will rival Dresden after is over..

Posted by: Kursk at August 25, 2009 3:21 PM

BTW, the Conservatives also paid down this debt the good old fashioned way, not by criminally raiding the EI fund, cutting social transfers or gutting the military (which the Liberals did, to create their artificial 'surpluses'..)

Posted by: Kursk at August 25, 2009 3:26 PM

Jonathan Adler knew that the vilification of those town hall citizens who stand in the way of the shining path, and the movement to prosecute former political opponents, are two sides of the same coin: Obama considers that the mandate he was given was a deeply-bowing nod to HIM and his magic powers.

In this (truly superb, I hope everyone reads it) piece in today's online WSJ, Fouad Ajami describes exactly what it is that Americans as a whole understand - historically and currently - far better than Obama and his hard-core supporters do:

"American democracy has never been democracy by plebiscite, a process by which a leader is anointed, then the populace steps out of the way, and the anointed one puts his political program in place. In the American tradition, the 'mandate of heaven' is gained and lost every day and people talk back to their leaders. They are not held in thrall by them. The leaders are not infallible or a breed apart. That way is the Third World way, the way it plays out in Arab and Latin American politics."

That,'s what's disturbing about Obama, to anyone who knows what time it is: he not only thinks, but in effect announces at every moment his intention to assert that his mandate is about Him: "Our new president wanted a fundamental overhaul of the health-care system—17% of our GDP—without a serious debate, and without 'loud voices.' It is akin to government by emergency decrees....Health care is the tip of the iceberg. Beneath it is an unease with the way the verdict of the 2008 election was read by those who prevailed."

It's all about the Democrats' willful arrogant misreading of the nature of the mandate they've been given. It's now as plain as day that when the American left-side was bleating during the Bush years about abuse of power they were in truth just complaining about *them* not having the power. Now that they have it, the attitude seems to be "get out of the way, America."

There may be a silver lining to their unfettered, jaw-dropping behaviour, though: If the Dems get thrashed in the midterm elections, and Obama is turfed in the next presidential election, their behaviour will have been the best thing to happen to America in a long, long time. Obama is doing enormous harm to the brand, as seen in current opinion polls about the trustworthiness of Congress.

Posted by: ducktrapper at August 25, 2009 4:51 PM

Krauthammer is right; the Obama administration's three-step strategy of: deny, evade and divert is quite obvious this weekend.

Rather than deal with the health care problems in the US of inability to move policies, and tort reform, Obama used the theme of health care to instead attempt to set up a massive governmental take-over of American governance. He's using health care as a false front to insert a radical socialism in the US.

He begins, as usual, with misinformation and emotional manipulation. He misinforms us of the 40-50 millions (depends on the speech) of Americans who are uninsured.

This ignores the millions who choose not to buy insurance but to pay up front for regular health care costs - a choice which can be dramatically cheaper than insurance. It ignores those who are illegal aliens and who instead use the emergency room of hospitals as their primary care. It ignores the young who also choose not to buy insurance. Obama's merger of all of these Sets and his redefinition of them, in an emotional manipulative tactic as 'too poor to buy insurance' is an outright lie.

The public is rejecting this restructuring of the American system and recognizing it as a trojan horse - and so, Obama is turning to smearing and denigrating the public. He won't tolerate questions, criticism or dissent, and his minions are calling Americans every malicious name in the book.

Obama's polls are dropping; and, it's the same with other Democrats. The rank and file are beginning to worry about re-election.

Then, there are Obama's other policies. His so-called stimulus was nothing but pork to Democrats...and Obama's polls reflect American dissatisfaction. His other policies, of cap and trade, his exponential deficits - all of these are driving his administration into free fall.

So, in true Obama style, which is to move into accusations against others, he's turned to his usual Blame Bush strategy. The problem is, he's done this so many times that people are getting tired of it. It's time for Obama to stand up and accept responsibility himself.

This is something he will never, ever, do. Never. He'll flash his Teen-Smile, make a Teen-Joke, and expect that you (or his grandmother) will collapse and do whatever he wants. It won't work.

August is International Compassion towards Terrorists Month

Barry will probably follow Scotland's lead and let all the terrosists go - including the ones who master minded 911 - on compassionate grounds and then charge the CIA as terrorists and put them in jail and see how they like it.

After all, the Americans were so mean to these poor terrorists - they need to do more than just apologize to the world for America's actions on just about everything - as Barry has already done. Its time to admit that America was too tough on terrorists that bombed the Trade Center on their own turf, killed American citizens, and it does not matter that America is still in their crosshairs - everybody just has to be nice (Kill em with kindness strategy) to each other and then these poor misdirected terrorists will feel bad and not be terrorists anymore - they will see the spanking given to the bad CIA boys and repent.

Barry wishing them all a happy Ramadan (August 21st- you tube) will certainly encourage radical muslims to love America and they will decide to take the Americans out of their crosshairs because America is so sorry for everything it has done and has now seen the light. Certainly, they will turn their weapons into plow shares. Group Hug Time Everyone! I get weepy just thinking about it.

My seat of the pants view has it that this past week is the week that BO's honeymoon with much of the MSM - and I mean mainstream, not the Joel kliens - ended. The majority of columns at RCP now are either skeptical of BO or downright anti BO. Pulling politics as usual stunts like the Friday Saturday shuffle - done delibrately to avoid the MSM reportage of it whilst over the weeekend the blogs feasted on it was the last straw for many.

Inside the WH the rant of panetta - a guy widely liked by theMSM - and the leaking of the incident demonstrates that many moderate dems are now off the socialist reservation.

The CIA has lots of allies in the dem camp and this is going to get ugly.

Apologies for repeating myself, but not only is BO the first black president but he is also the worst black president and on his way to becoming the worst since US grant perhaps.

Posted by: Gord Tulk at August 25, 2009 6:40 PM

There is a more obvious "crisis" handy that can be exploited by an unpopular administration stalled on socialist reforms, to utilize as a focused distraction.

Ten bucks says the swine flu is hyped to epidemic status and the quasi-martial law of a socialist nation under public health emergency will be invoked to 'control' it.

On the other side of this manufactured plague both socialist martialism and single provider health care will come off like Red messiahs when properly spun by the MSM

Voila! - plunge in Dem polling numbers solved without the cost or fuss of cranking up a new war. A war on flu virus is cheaper, pays off your pals in big pharma, and gives you the same domestic martial powers.

I know you didn't write this, EBD, but the Wall Street Journal writer who did 1) doesn't know what a plebiscite is, and 2) doesn't know much about American history. Look at GWB after 2001 - love him or hate him, he had majorities in the House and Senate and did pretty much what he wanted. What's amazing about BamBam is he had very good approval ratings, a majority in the House, and a filibuster proof majority in the Senate, but after serious miscalculations in bailing out Wall Street while failing Main Street, he is now struggling to have his health care mish-mash turned into a coherent and passable plan.

This is bullshit and I am tired of the Liberals taking credit for it.

Mulroney put the GST in. Chretien got in power by promising to dismantle it, then rode the GST money to surplus after surplus. Martin did not 'wrestle down the debt' he was fortunate enough to be there while the GST money was rolling in.

The fact that we had all those multi-billion dollar Liberal scandals and still showed a surplus, shows just how over taxed the population was with the GST at 7%.

Sure the ever righteous lefticles are going to love this ... seeing the great opportunity to return to the comfort of their BDR and paranoia.

Pretty pathetic isn't it?

Completely predictable as well.

It is no coincidence that all the pet peeves of the lunatic left hanging over from the Bush admin. have been quietly ignored. Just kept on the back burner simmering by the strategists and the Obama team in case they needed to bolster their roots.

Alas ... those roots are still just as nuts as ever and still not the ones they need to win over (or back).

With the Democretins from the house working overtime in the background to harrass American business and the White house stewing over how to impose their wills on every level of government, the floundering of the current big show vis a vis taking over health care .... something had to give. The Washington Dems have managed to make just about every middle class American their enemy by calling them thugs, a mob, terrorists and nazis. They are bullying the business community at every step.

It's going to take a lot of heavy hauling by the MSMers to take on the CIA as criminals myth and use it to change the subject at this point.

There's already too much of the Obama admin involved in this teapot. Big name Dems were on the oversight committees all along and some of them are in the White house team now. They won't get away with claiming to have been lied to.

There will be outbursts from this bunch of ill mannered and ill tempered adolescents and those outbursts will solidify the resolve of what remains in the Democrat's ranks to distance themselves from the brat pack.

All the while the supposed great uniter and his gang of screw ups are simply doing what they do best and creating destruction all around.

Liberals do not build or create anything ever.

They only know how to use and abuse ... and when frustrated thrash and smash.

Come to think of it perhaps the BDR will be their undoing. They will become ever more shrill and really ... the only people they are railing against are the American people. Will the American public sit for this?

One of reasons is that the defense Lawyers may challenge the evidence as inadmissible (obtained under threat of torture) and that would give Obama political cover to free them.

If you read the "Friend of the Court" brief filed in Canada (RE: Canadian Terrorist) you would find that the lawyers are worried about the evidence obtained by Canadian investigators. A "friend of the court" is not the lawyer for the accused, & in this case makes some admissions to the Court that should concern Canadians. They basically want to suppress the Canadian evidence of a guilty terrorist, and the Canadian Judge agreed!

Obama has been made a wimp by the Scottish Court, (Hell Bush would have shot the plane down). I expect that Libya's Gaddafi will soon “summon” Obama to get the apology & have his feet kissed...
