Stop interrupting. I'm trying to count my money.

Posted by: Kate at August 25, 2009 12:36 AM

I'm sure that Nancy Grace will have an exposé on this for the next week, or so.

You bet,Erik. And the douche bag will probably be trying to figure out a way to charge the 1st grader and the teacher with kidnapping and attemped murder.

You know, I used to criticize the media, but no more. All I need to know now is, where do I get my panic-helmet?

We're not safe, I'm afraid, and furthermore we're the first generation who recognize how important we...I mean, how unsafe we are, which leaves us with only one option: ignore the sideline markers, and the limits of the stadium, and run with that ball, baby. Run like the wind. For the sake of our dignity. Because shit doesn't have to happen.

Uhh.

Excuse me while I rinse.

I always wondered where Earl Camenbert had gone. Glad to hear he's found work again.

Can't remember the details, but there was a study done a while ago in Britain about intergenerational "wandering limits". Four generations ago, it was a mile, three generations ago, less, two, a city block, and now, the backyard.

At age 2 I was set free to explore our Saskatoon neighbourhood. Nothing bad happened, there was a critical mass of kids out on the street, so we all hung out together. We dropped in at various neighbour's places where we were fed and watered, etc. We went home when we heard our names yelled out, or at darkness. I still remember my mom following me when I rode my bike, age 6, to the public library. She trailed a few blocks behind. I was incensed! How dare she! I was six!

It was an awesome childhood.

My kids are currently both under house arrest. I don't feel good about it, but the streets are devoid of children. I still remember the day I first let them out of my sight - they were OLD.

Pretty sad actually.

Posted by: Erik Larsen at August 25, 2009 1:53 AM

sad really,
the next generation had best be marsupials in order to satisfy the criteria.

Posted by: cal2 at August 25, 2009 2:51 AM

cal2, OK, I've never used the "you owe me a new keyboard" line, ever. Until now.

Posted by: Erik Larsen at August 25, 2009 3:08 AM

Remember the golden age of journalism, when that kid would have at least fallen down an abandoned well?
It's like they're not even trying anymore.

Posted by: rg at August 25, 2009 6:16 AM

The real story here is why are those kids back to school already. Don't those teachers have a union?

The real news is that the first grade teacher didn't realize that there was someone in her class under the age of 12. Hee-haw

Is it a lack of real reporters or is there a new generation of reporters conditioned to be lethargically uninterested in official corruption?

Is it just that fluffy bunny stories sooth the grazing sheep while their boss (the wolf) tears other sheep in the herd to shreds in a virtual media black out?

With over a decade of the most corrupt mob and patronage networked federal regiime Canada has ever suffered under out of power, you would think there would be a retro scandal-crime a week surface in the news media. But in summer recess we see fluffy bunny stories and pre election partisan cheerleading.

If you don't hear about it in the MSM it never happened, right? That's the prime directive of government controlled corporate media.

Soon they will regulate and litigate the internet into the same lack of curiosity in official corruption.

"Soon they will regulate and litigate the internet into the same lack of curiosity in official corruption."

Posted by: Jim at August 25, 2009 9:04 AM

You may be right, Jim.

The internet is in the crosshairs of governments for sure.
Sadly the likes of Google get into bed with corrupt regimes like communist China, but beware of even supposed "free speech" countries like Canada.
Canada has had decades of complicit MSM but now the internet as it currently exists is challenge for corruption to rotten administrations.

You know the profession is in trouble, when

[Just about everyone, from the general public to news executives, has an opinion about the future of journalism. Now, the Federal Trade Commission is stepping into the debate.

Though some may be uncomfortable with government oversight of any aspect of journalism, the F.T.C. seems to be “attempting to play a facilitating and public educational role in gathering together various disciplines and perspectives to talk about the crisis in mainstream journalism,” said Neil Henry, a professor and dean at the graduate school of journalism at the University of California, Berkeley. “The government’s willingness to raise the profile of this issue, and to help explain why it is important for a national conversation, I think in general is welcome.”] NYT

Meanwhile,

Micheal Jackson is still dead.

Speaking of Journalist, I think this Canadian one is in need of some insight.

"So, the vacuum is filled by powerful lobby groups and right-wing extremists." ... "The groups are believed behind much of the health care reform discord."

This is odd, a new poll is out and the so called CBC isn't running any stories about a fall election.
In fact there is no mention of the poll on their website at all.
Could it be because the numbers show the Conservatives with a large lead?

When the liberals show a lead or get close they keep the story on the website for days.

Perhaps if we gave them another billion dollars a year they would be able to hire enough journalists to cover both sides of the story.

Posted by: Stan at August 25, 2009 12:12 PM

The cbc's unofficial policy is that a story is deemed newsworthy if it A; denigrates the conservatives, B; portrays the liberals positively. This poll does not meet either criteria, therefore it is not newsworthy.

I think this little wandering tyke is in line for some pre-education re-education.He's only 5 and already showing a rebellious streak that must be quashed.

Ron in Kelowna:

That's the Vancouver Sun for ya. I too read that column this morning and it's for that very reason I cancelled my subscription to the Sun about 9 years ago.

Believe it or not, Barbara Yaffe (and Norman Spector) was one of the best in that whole communist rag...sad. Other than the occasional column here and there by Vaughan Palmer or Fazil Mihlar, the entire cumbersome mess was good for starting fires and precious little else.
