This reminds me of a tongue in cheek article in OMNI magazine back in the early 80's. The writer described a new fad in Japan for miniaturized genetically engineered Kobe beef cattle. The cattle were kept in pastures in the middle of the restaurant where the diners could choose their dinner. Kind of like the lobster tank. The funniest part was some people actually believed it and wrote letters of protest to the editor.
