Y2Kyoto: In Case You Haven't Noticed

We're winning;

General Electric has pulled the plug on its Earth Rewards MasterCard program due to lack of interest, ClimateWire reports.

A first-of-its-kind program, card users could set aside 1 percent of the value of their purchases for carbon offset projects.

Meanwhile... congressman Mike Castle (R - Delaware), meets his constituents at a town hall meeting three days after voting in favour of cap and trade. Things get really interesting at about the 4 minute mark.

Hmm 3:2 eh? Not in that meeting. Is he one of the guys that sold out for about 2K? I have no respect for a man that can be bought that cheaply.

Posted by: speedy at July 18, 2009 8:55 PM

does this mean the new Volt elec cars are all going to be squashed in the desert like the EVH (whatever) all were in what, 2003? 2006? cripes Im lousy at dates.

let's hear it for town hall meetings.

p.s. does anybody know what a code 10 error on the sound card in my other XP based system is?

Posted by: curious_george at July 18, 2009 9:03 PM

The Hon. Mr. Castle looks like he is glad that tar and feathers are no longer in fashion.

Posted by: MikeM at July 18, 2009 9:16 PM

I don't like his chances of re-election, based on that clip.

Now you realize how a republican could carry a democratic district for 8 consecutive terms..
Now explain how he got the republican nomination 8 consecutive times......
At one point I expected him to break into a litany of praise for BamBam and hope and change.
Although I have encountered very few warmists recently....those few, I have encountered are passionate almost to the point of violence....you could almost smell the desperation....

Posted by: sasquatch at July 18, 2009 9:32 PM

A growing number of people are beginning to laugh at and mock the gross excesses of the climate change alarmists.

When that happens, you just know that their cause is about to derail...

Bets the guy in red gets audited by the IRS in next little while...?

Posted by: Curious at July 18, 2009 10:02 PM

That was not a happy look at around 4:26...... ROFL!

Posted by: AtlanticJim at July 18, 2009 10:09 PM

There is some local warming going on as West Kelowna is on fire. Any reports from Ron and some of the other regular SDA readers from the Okanagan area?

Posted by: Fritz at July 18, 2009 10:17 PM

The natives are getting restless.

Democracy in action can be an ugly thing, especially for Republicans (conservatives) who won't
listen to their electors. Burke warns us that "Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgment; and he betrays instead of serving you if he sacrifices it to your opinion". That only applies if there was enough industry involved and if the judgment was correct.

You guys are a bunch of freaks..Is this a Canadian blog? Empty whats left of your brains and go south folks.

Some photos of the Kelowna fire fueled by high winds.

Posted by: Fritz at July 18, 2009 10:25 PM

The West Side fire here in Kelowna is at about 125 acres as of 7PM,PT, there's a large very dark brown cloud, indicating a HOT fire, hanging over half the town now. All of Glen Rosa subdivision has been evacuated, the Gorman Bros. mill is in danger of going up.

One of our regulars here,I believe lives on that side, and may have been evacuated already.

It's 32 in the shade right now, with steady winds at roughly 30 km/h.

Who knows why Congressman Mike Castle is a Man-Made-Global-Warming-Believer like Bill O'Reilly.

Perhaps they have different reasons: political pressure for one, ignorance of the science for the other.

In any case, their positions are both disappointing and counterproductive.

If you have time, watch climatologist Dr. Tim Ball's interviews posted today by Dr. Roy here for a discussion of the science and the political motivations:

3000 homes have been evacuated so far, and there's new fire in Fintry, just North of the WS fire.Highway 97 is closed to Peachland.

It's getting interesting. Al Gore, save us from this conflagration, or can only the Messiah do that?

Curious_George:
For your code 10 error, try Googling "code 10 error audio". Here's just one of the many links you'll get:

But, George, be suspicious of "free downloads".

Posted by: RSP at July 18, 2009 11:06 PM

Larry Bennett @10:20 - great quote; that's the thing about judgment, though; if you're exercising your own judgment then you're the judge of whether it's correct. (I like to think of this as the "I agree with me" principle.)

WTF, FO.

Posted by: Black Mamba at July 18, 2009 11:14 PM

WTF at 10:45 PM. When was the last time you got to go to a Canadian Town Hall meeting? The last one I was invited to was in the 90's and was hosted by a Reform Party MP.

Kelowna fire is 200 hectares and 10,000 people evacuated.

GE; I guess they where marketing to a class that doesn't pay thier bills, or Taxes, or Mortgage. The dead-beat green card, only good in California. (illegal alien type)

There must be a psychological description of the inverted smile seen at around the four minute mark. I remember seeing it a lot from both Rod Blagojevich and Elliot Spitzer during their recent troubles.

It seems to me a very characteristic primitive facial expression, reflective of "I'm guilty, but how will I get myself out of this"

Posted by: Erik Larsen at July 19, 2009 2:59 AM

The lesson here for politicians is that they should not simply rely on the MSM's sheeple herding... there are alternative channels for the people to gain access to information, sans spin, or at least with counterspin.

Surprise!!!

Posted by: Shaken at July 19, 2009 7:49 AM

Vote for the guy in the red hat.

Posted by: langmann at July 19, 2009 9:23 AM

"I don't like his chances of re-election, based on that clip."

Mike Castle is running for the Senate. He's the only Republican who could even possibly win statewide office in Delaware, and his chances were quite good until he voted for cap-and-trade. Why he would throw away his political career on this one issue is completely beyond me.

Posted by: Dave J at July 19, 2009 9:39 AM

Castle is another fake conservative like Joe Clark or any of the other "progressive" conservatives running around trying to save the planet by increasing taxes.

Posted by: Brad at July 19, 2009 11:14 AM

look no farther than Jim Prentice the Dim for a Liberal in a blue tie.

Got your Carbon Tax yet? He'll make sure you pay for it...

Posted by: hardboiled at July 19, 2009 12:54 PM

It's not just who you vote fro, it's also who you nominate. Thus; if you don't belong to a democratically run Political Party you have only ONE VOTE; after the real election is over.
If you vote for a candidate from a non democratically run party, you're a fool.

Posted by: Gunney99 at July 19, 2009 4:09 PM

The size of the crowd, and their anger has me encouraged. Indeed Kate we are winning! The media, the Goracle and Obama thought they could pull this over, but this crowd is well informed and proves that pols are out of touch with constituents. This guy won't be re-elected. His mistake was to assume that he was dealing with uninformed sheeple.
Burnt!!

It's always good to see a wayward poly being hung out to dry :)

Posted by: Joel Schroeder at July 19, 2009 11:47 PM

I'm not convinced we're winning. At a golf outing last week two friends quite a bit older than I took me to task for cracking jokes about climate change while we were freezing our collective asses off in Nebraska in the middle of July. I was lectured as to NASA temperature statistics along with extended narratives speaking to the weather of their childhood versus current norms. It was made clear to them thanks to Kate that the temperature readings are bogus for specific and identified reasons AND that temperature and moisture changes noted during the course of a human lifetime are probably not a reliable sample.

Except for the fact that they both drive rice grinders, one would take them for upright and sensible tax payers. One would be mistaken. Suspect someone won't be invited to that foursome again anytime soon.

As to GE credit card sales strategies, Capital One has funnier ads AND I can get my dog's picture on the front. There are priorities.
