CIA Head Kills Secret Plot To Kill Bin Laden

Jules Crittenden examines the explosive revelation;

So killing al-Qaeda leaders is not only a big controversial hush-hush secret, it’s also wrong.

OK, I’m confused. I thought that was what they were supposed to be doing. I’m pretty sure that’s what Bill Clinton had in mind when he was lobbing cruise missiles onto assorted patches of desert and rocky crags in Afghanistan. I know that is pretty much was George Bush was talking about with his “dead or alive” speech. In fact, when the U.S. military blew up Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and the CIA started lobbing Hellfires into Yemen and Waziristan, I thought that was the basic idea. Kill al-Qaeda leaders.

I can understand why George W. wouldn't want to kill Al Qaeda leaders. His lazy hazy crazy days at Camp David would have been interrupted by having to pay attention to domestic problems.

War is just a convenient method to pre-occupy the masses while politicians do what they do best…kiss the asses of their campaign contributors.

Posted by: not stirred enough said at at July 13, 2009 10:58 AM

NSES,

Yup. If W had paid more attention to domestic issues he could have stopped Barney Frank and the democrats from wrecking the economy.

And as for kissing the asses of campaign contributors, all politicians do that but Barry Obamination seems to have perfected the actual payoffs better than most. Given he comes from Chicago, that isn't surprising.

Are we to assume that you are among those who also thinks that it was Bush and the CIA who took down the WTC. If so, talk to your doctor about your meds. New stuff comes on the market all the time specifically created to address pernicious side effects of the sort you apparently suffer from. This is an Obama administration's tactic to divert attention from his failures.

This include his disastrous 'Stimulus Bill' which has not only failed to stimulate but has increased the debt by trillions. That's what pork does - and that's what that 'Obama Bill' was all about - buying Democrat votes.

And there's his Health Bill, and his Cap and Trade - all of which he's trying to ram through Congress by setting up an emotional hysteria of 'the sky is falling, the sky is falling' - if you don't pass these bills. Without reading them.

He's attempted to reduce Congress to a rubber stamp and to keep the people in a state of constant fear and apprehension.

It hasn't been working; his negative polls are rising, and more and more commenters and political pundits are criticizing him. Obama doesn't accept criticism. So, this Bush-is-Evil strategy is an emotional diversion to deflect attention from Obama-as-Evil.

It won't work. Facts eventually overcome fiction.

From the WSJ: "Attorney General Eric Holder is considering whether to order a criminal probe into whether treatment of terrorism detainees exceeded guidelines set by the Justice Department, administration officials said."

Just to clarify: the same DOJ, under Eric Holder, that dropped charges against the three Black Panthers who menaced voters in Philadelphia outside a polling building after the three men refused to show up in court to address the charges, the same Department of Justice which ruled that the state of Georgia's requirement that voters provide verification of citizenship -- a driver's license or Social Security card -- was "discriminatory", are now announcing a criminal probe into the previous administration's treatment of terrorists.

So, let's see: Obama's DOJ circles the wagons around Black Panther thugs who wield nightsticks and threaten voters, and around non-citizens who try to vote, while prosecuting public servants of a previous (non-Dem) government who were acting to keep the country safe from terrorism.

Yep, we's gots change alright.

I thought targeted assassinations were a no-no in the US. They can lob cruise missiles, but a single bullet is verbotten. It's no wonder these non-elected types have trouble making decisions. If the CIA chief had actually pulled it off, we'd be hearing calls for his prosecution for war crimes.

Remember Ari Fleischer's comment, in 2001, that it would only take one bullet to end Saddam's reign? He was talking about an Iraqi bullet, of course. Think how much bloodshed could have been spared if the CIA had done the deed.

Why target Bin Laden for asassination? He's not the problem. 9/11 was mass hallucination, and did not happen. Its a conspiracy to blame some foreigner for that non-event. This is an open invitation to all those who hate the US, come on over and do your worst. Lets play game show politics. Posted by: The Phantom at July 13, 2009 1:11 PM

Yes, a tactic to divert attention.

Today's Rasmussen continues the negative trend; Obama's stong approval vs strong disapproval index is minus 8 and it's been in the negatives for over a week. His general approval rating is 53 to 46. obama began slipping from his original index of plus 28 and an approval of 65 to 38, the beginning of March. A month and a half after taking office.

He's now rapidly losing his appeal, and he and his administration will move to drastic measures. His problem is: reality. How does he control it and prevent it infringing (yes, I mean that word) on his 'utopian text'?

He'll deny reality - as he lies and tells the people that his stimulus package IS working.

He'll blame those who reject his fictional account. So, his statement of his success means that people are just too dumb to see it.

He'll blame others for messing things up. He'll start to accuse people of bungling things.

He'll divide the people - he's good at that, dividing people into adversarial groups by race, class, income, work, political party. He's dividing his administration, setting up the CIA vs Congress. He'll do more of that.

He'll divert attention - and he's doing that with his Blame Bush scenario.

He'll retreat more and more to an isolate cocoon of sycophants - his appointed, unaccountable 'czars'.

He'll do more carefully scripted controlled public town halls - he'll be trying to regain the Magic Moments of Adoration.
And more foreign visits.

None of this will work. Facts have a nasty way of intruding on fiction. Since Obama can't live within a factual world and only within a fictional world - I'm not sure what will happen next.

The real plot was data mining all the email servers and credit card info on everyone in the US. That's why the telcos wanted immunity. Phone taps were just the tip of the iceberg. CIA (not by law supposed to work in US) has access to the network switches of every ISP in US. Much listening was also done to Congress-- for leak plugging.

bob c,

No I don't assume Bush and Co. approved the taking down of the WTC but it does bring up an interesting point. Do you rememeber the look on Bush's face when he was informed; do you remember what he was doing...giving a kindergarten lesson in Florida.

I actually think there was a real attempt in Torra Bora but then a light bulb went off in the Oval Office and Bush realized Bin Laden was worth more alive than dead.

And yes Obama is doing the same thing.

bob c,

When it comes to politicians it is very important to consider the venue and their body language. Afterall what comes out of their mouths is scripted and rehearsed to give impressions and create perceptions; not speak the truth.

If you think Bush spoke off the cuff and spoke the truth then so be it. As for the photo-op; think of the real reasons not the op itself. Perhaps it was harmless but why would the POTUS be out doing harmless stuff...it only makes sense on one level.

Posted by: not stirred enough said at at July 13, 2009 2:59 PM

Is there a justification for killing those who are intent on killing you and yours? You bet your boots there is. In fact, reticence in doing so would be either gross stupidity or else moral cowardice.

Posted by: Larry Bennett at July 13, 2009 3:07 PM

not stirred enough - I suggest you stir the ingredients and see if anything concrete comes out of your ambiguous statements.

Are you serious? All statements made by a politician are scripted, i.e., programmed and untrue? Nonsense. No-one can be that robotic.

Bush's 'photo-op' at the kindergarten where he was reading the children a story. No, he was not giving a 'kindergarten lesson'. You ask us to 'think of the real reasons'. I've done so: it was a photo-op. Period. Please provide your speculations.

Why would the POTUS be 'out doing harmless stuff'? Oh? You think that he ought to be out 'doing harmful stuff'? Please explain.

I'll go along with Mark Steyn - Bin Laden is dead. Long ago. As Steyn claims - 'bin laden to rest and pushing up daisies'. Whether it was from natural causes (I understand he was diabetic as well as other ailments) or other - I've no idea. But the facts are - he hasn't been seen alive since and his videos are, in my view, 'photo-ops'. So, never believe a word of it.

Posted by: ET at July 13, 2009 3:11 PM

Jeff - the CIA can work in the US. Its mandate is

"Collecting intelligence through human sources and by other appropriate means, except that he shall have no police, subpoena, or law enforcement powers or internal security functions".

That doesn't exclude gathering the intelligence within the USA; it merely states that the CIA is not responsible for internal security functions - those duties belong to the police and FBI services.

As well, the CIA ALSO gathers intelligence OUTSIDE the USA.

After all, it would be ridiculous to suggest that IF the CIA gathers evidence of a bomb plot agsint the US, co-ordinated from a foreign country AND to be carried out by secret agents planted inside the US - that the CIA would be unable to gather intelligence about those agents inside the US who will carry out the task! Surely you don't believe that! Or do you?

I suggest you read the CIA's mandate. Facts always trump fiction.

Posted by: ET at July 13, 2009 3:20 PM

Actually, I think CIA assassinations have been illegal since the time of Kennedy. But I'm sure in the case of 9/11 had Cheney made it public, Congress would have made a special dispensation for it. (post 9/11, LEST WE FORGET, if Bush would have asked Congress to legalize medeavel torture, I'm sure they would have approved it!) It was already publicly known that the US government was offering millions of $$$ for the capture or death of Osama...mercenaries from all around the world were crawling through the desert looking for the guy. So what's the big deal?

Ehem, Bob, the democRATs do the wars with the republican's hands - they just ignore the issue (any issue) until the republican is getting elected and deals with one. They they smear him for fixing the issue until they oust him and get another democRAT elected.

How did you manage to miss that algorithm for so long?

Posted by: Aaron at July 13, 2009 3:44 PM

bob c and ET, I'm not sure re ObL's status. It's to his benefit to avoid video, as we all remember how an American geologist recognized the sandstone rock formations in the ObL video in 2001.

I doubt he's altered his appearance to conceal his identity, if alive he's probably safe amongst tribal people.

There were so many rumours that he required dialysis every three days - somehow I really doubt this. Bin Laden's doctor (Aziz, British born) stated in 2002 that ObL had no kidney disease.

Posted by: Erik Larsen at July 13, 2009 3:51 PM

Erik Larsen;

How many video tapes has right hand man Zawahiri put out since 911. Somehow or another he has managed to do so without giving away his whereabouts. Its not that difficult; a small room, a curtain or a blanket hung for background and a video camera.

Again, it would have been a huge PR coup for Bin Laden to prove he was alive. He would have been able to say to those he wished to recruit, **See. The Americans are not so tough. I am still here and there is nothing they can do about it.** Yet, he passed up the chance.

I always felt that bin Laden bought it at Tora Bora. A few years ago, a private company that does voiceprint analysis analyzed a known bin Laden tape and one of these new ones from Tora Bora Rose, and said no way it was the same guy. Then the CIA "confirmed" that it was bin Laden and they withdrew.

Also, there was a video that purported to show bin Laden, but the only time the mouth matched the audio was when bin Laden spoke words he is known to have spoken before Tora Bora. They claimed the problem was corrupted mpeg compression. What are the odds? I would say about zero.

I agree with Mark Steyn.
