"Not to be outdone, Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff and Toronto Centre MP Bob Rae walked the parade route alongside a Liberal float, from which a drag queen in a lime green dress swivelled her hips."

Because of the ongoing strike by 'sanitary engineering staff' Toronto has cancelled the Canada Day Parade.
Sure gives me a lot of pride.

Posted by: doowleb at June 29, 2009 11:45 AM

I am confused, was it ignatieff or Rae who was in the lime green dress?

How can a drag queen swivel "her" hips anyways?

Posted by: Frenchie77 at June 29, 2009 11:46 AM

I want to see pictures of Iffy and Rae at the Gay Exhibitionist parade.

Then we can have ourselves a good ol' caption contest!

Posted by: Soccermom at June 29, 2009 11:48 AM

No Canada Day celebrations, but the Gay Pride parade is a go.
Nice to see David Miller has his priorities in order.

Posted by: Largs at June 29, 2009 11:58 AM

what exactly is meant by "a handful of private contract workers"?

and no, I am not curious, I'm just asking...

Posted by: marc in calgary at June 29, 2009 12:10 PM

I can't figure why Mayor Miller's poll numbers just keep dropping.

Posted by: Speedy at June 29, 2009 12:13 PM

Hmmmmn,which one is the "bottom"?

Posted by: tom at June 29, 2009 12:21 PM

I wonder if Harper took HIS kids to get educated at the porno parade.

Posted by: Zog at June 29, 2009 12:38 PM

Global Calgary showed video 'footage' of Iggster, Miller, et al at the parade this morning.

The male host of global news this morning commented, "Oh look, they're having a bubblebath!"

the visual wasn't necessary.............barf

Where's the sanity?

For sanitation reasons Canada Day celebrations is off but gay pride parade is so important they can go the extra mile to find people to clean up?

Where is there any evidence of common sense to be seen in any of this bull crap to be giving a grant no less of $400,000 grand to "stimulate" the gays but nary a penny for Canada Day celebrations?

This has stimulated plenty of anger among those who are struggling to make ends meet in a different manner. One would think celebrating Canada would take priority over sexuality at any rate. Let them eat cake, provide their own "stimulation".

Iggy and Rae paired up to be entertained by a drag queen? Precious that. Did Iggy raise his brows? Did Rae have his coy little smirk? Tweedle Dum(b) and Tweedle Dee.

The humiliations politicians will go through when trolling for votes.
The humiliations WE will go through because a subculture has trumped decency and patriotism.
Of course, we could have Canada Pride Day on July 1st. We'll have floats dedicated to Superman because he is on OUR side. This could be an event you can actually take your children to. And, as we must be civically minded, we'll encourage everyone to put their rubbish where it belongs- on David Miller's lawn.
Keep Canada clean!

Was it E May or S Dion in the Green Dress?

Re: Ignatieff

What do you expect from a cat person?

Posted by: Charles MacDonald at June 29, 2009 1:49 PM

Gay Pride parade, yes, Canada Day parade, no in Toronto and Liberals out in full force. Why does this not surprise me.

Posted by: Ken at June 29, 2009 2:14 PM

No Canada Day celebrations in Toronto ?

Go figure, that explains the large Liberal vote.

Posted by: Fred at June 29, 2009 2:31 PM

Canada Day , Not Gay Enough.

Posted by: richfisher at June 29, 2009 2:37 PM

Charles,

Not all of us cat people are iggy sympathizers or emulators. In fact, nine out of ten cats (and their human servants) agree that iggy is a serial dilettante. As for taliban layton, we can't even talk about him without spitting.

"Not to be outdone, Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff and Toronto Centre MP Bob Rae walked the parade route alongside a Liberal float...."

What, they weren't holding hands and massaging each others erogenous zone? The homophobes.

Posted by: Arty at June 29, 2009 2:49 PM

No matter what the photo it likely won't be as hilarious (and damaging) as Dion with the hockey stick.

Posted by: Gord Tulk at June 29, 2009 3:08 PM

Why would Toronto celebrate Canada Day? They haven't been a part of Canada for decades!

Posted by: Sarge (not the idiot troll) at June 29, 2009 3:15 PM

Iggy has an erogenous zone?

Posted by: Gord Tulk at June 29, 2009 3:17 PM

Sarge:

No, the rest of Canada (including most Ontarians outside of the GTA) just wish Toronto hadn't been part of Canada for decades...

Not to be outdone, Michael Ignatieff wore a gold satin ballgown with ballet slippers and Bob Rae re-did his Rick Mercer bit and hung his tally-wag out for everyone to enjoy.

What I wanna know is: What was Jack Layton wearing? There has to be some good pics of that. Elizabeth May must have been there, too, seeing as she always looks like she is in drag anyway.

Posted by: Soccermom at June 29, 2009 3:32 PM

Sorry, felis corpulentis. My anti-cat animus got the better of me.

Posted by: Charles MacDonald at June 29, 2009 3:33 PM

Joanne has pics at Blue Like You. Iffy looks a tad out of place is his boring grey sweater. But he has a pic of Trudeau around his neck!!!!! I guess that's the ticket to fit in, eh?

Posted by: Soccermom at June 29, 2009 3:40 PM

Check out Jack and Olivia at the parade: network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/toronto/archive/2009/06/28/pride-parade-in-pictures.aspx

i find it interesting that people celebrate perversion and sexually devient behaviour.

Posted by: old white guy at June 29, 2009 4:34 PM

The porn parade. Apt.

Posted by: Mark Peters at June 29, 2009 6:35 PM

The Liberals were all wearing pictures of Trudeau. Guess he's the patron saint of Gay Pride parades.

Posted by: Liz J at June 29, 2009 6:49 PM

so Iggy and bob were college room mate's? hmmm i'm just saying where there's lefties there's bound to be experimentation! yes ?

Posted by: royalist at June 29, 2009 6:56 PM

Today on local radio, we were obliged to listen respectfully to a lengthy post-mortem of the event, which they claim saw 1,000,000,000 people spend $2,000,000,000,000,000,000 on unused condoms and beer, all the better to help the local economy.

That building, say, a concentration camp would also arguably "help the economy" (as would breaking all the windows then paying people to fix them) is never brought to mind.

The spokesthingie, asked about the nudity, snorted "People just have to get over it."

"Let's face it," she/he said airily, in a well-rehearsed (for some reason) line. "Pride is the one day of the year we get to celebrate Christmas."

Funny, for two thousand years we called that... Christmas.

Depressing.

Pride is one of the seven deadly sins. Only in a culture so ignorant of such cultural touchstones could such a word become embraced unironically by those who've appointed themselves our betters.

Posted by: Kathy Shaidle at June 29, 2009 7:10 PM

Not that I really care, but does anyone know which mosques helped to sponsor which floats this year?

Posted by: Sgt Lejaune at June 29, 2009 7:30 PM

Hey Charles, no problem. I just couldn't let pass an implication that the entire iggitude is caused by felinity. Now if someone wanted to start a discussion about why a shelter cat wasn't good enough for the Count and Countess, I would be right in there.

Posted by: felis corpulentis at June 29, 2009 7:38 PM

I being a strait fellow find this annual parade a bit distasteful, as I am sure the average gay folk do as well for the simple reason that it really has the effect of making the ‘gay community'(whatever that is) look like a bunch of weirdo's. I mean really, I don’t care if people are gay, big deal, but whether it is fair or not, every time I see this ‘event’ it really does damage to my perception of gay people and there lifestyle.

Perception means everything in today’s society, so my advice to gay people would be to loose the parade, marginalize the weirdo’s and join all the other Joe and Jane six-packs out there living there lives who have never asked, wanted or needed a parade to define who they are.

Posted by: missing link at June 29, 2009 7:44 PM

Photos--photos--we need colour photos! What some people won't do for a vote. I noticed that there was a "vaseline" decal on the side of the float!!

Posted by: Joe Kodak at June 29, 2009 8:59 PM

Canada Day Parade no. Two freak show parades ok. Politics gone to brainless matter.

Posted by: Ken E. at June 29, 2009 9:03 PM

Iggy at a gay pride parade wearing a photo of trudeau. Yup, you're really going to win the West over doing that shit.

Posted by: A storm is coming at June 29, 2009 9:03 PM

Black Mamba may be on to something here. new is starting to make sense. In a really weird, twisted way.

That's kinda frightening.

However I am pleased to note that I didn't even know it was Parade Your Privates Day in Torontistan today. This means I have succeeded in shoving a cork into the dripping pipe of Leftist propaganda that we call The Media here in Ontaristan.

No TV, no radio, no problem! CD collection of shuffle, DVD player with Hulk 1 and Hulk 2. And not a single perambulating private part to be seen. Awesome!

Posted by: The Phantom at June 29, 2009 9:47 PM

You know, there is a saying..."No new is good news". Sadly that's not the case today!

Posted by: Snagglepuss at June 29, 2009 10:22 PM

The really sad thing is that our federal government contributed $400,000 of our tax dollars to this event.

Posted by: Alain at June 29, 2009 10:23 PM

I am DISGUSTED beyond words!
So the largest city in the country will have a parade for virus breeders, but can't bring itself to observe a National holiday?!? Personally I'm not one for displays of nationalism or patriotism, but this revolting display of twisted priorities offends! The politi-turds who sighed off on this should be frog-marched out of their offices in city hall and the Legislature and flung head first into the nearest refuse heap, barred from ever setting foot in the buildings for life on pain of public flogging and imprisonment, and barred from ever holding public office ever again!

OK, who did the vid edit @ 30 sec where 'fluffy' does the grooming on Iggy's eyebrows??

Posted by: Snagglepuss at June 29, 2009 11:06 PM

The liberal drag queen's costume was no doubt intended to be a "green shift". Whether the pun was current policy or the work of a revanchist Dionist is the question.

Posted by: Anthony at June 30, 2009 12:53 AM

spotted elsewhere on the WWWeb:

"what do you call a transvestite at a nudist colony?"

LOL !!!

p.s. who is gonna bust the gay pride parade starkers set when cops are IN the parade as well ?

I foresee a court case in which a straight male is ordered by a gay judge to submit to homosexual intercourse based on some convoluted interpretation of verbal contract law.

I need a drink.

Posted by: curious_george at June 30, 2009 5:02 AM

Apparently, Toronto isn't broke enough yet. For all the flamboyance, everyone looked angry and edgy.

Posted by: wuberman at June 30, 2009 7:10 AM

That statement reads like a living testament to the fact that an education does not necessarily signify wisdom or intelligence.

Actually I could green up that picture with the right lens filter.

Images 4 and 5 Kate

I'm "amused" by the Toronto District School Board having a float. As well as the flag adorning the hood of a police car.

Diversity is fine. Wearing beads while wearing the uniform at work as a Toronto Metro Constable might be a different matter altogether.

Puts a different spin to the phrase "packing"...

At least got a fair bit of coverage here- if one cares to wince a little. To my chagrin at the local convenience store, they told me that the Monday National Post would not be available.
I forked out for the Toronto Star. I was puzzled and not at all put out, at the sparse coverage of the "Gay" parade.

"No Rain On This Parade" we are informed. "It was grey and wet and, of course, political - but how gay it was" (Quoth Jim Rankin). We are further informed that nipples stood up straight because it was cool weather. This and more ad nauseum.

Do these people of the Toronto Star ever fear the day when a different generation, may either despair or die of laughing, when seeing back copies of this stuff?

What a bunch of codswallop.

Posted by: Peter (Lock City) at June 30, 2009 12:25 PM

"For all the flamboyance, everyone looked angry and edgy."

Yes, what a tedious bunch indeed.

Posted by: JJM at June 30, 2009 1:23 PM

I'd like to know, other than their quilting abilities, what gays are so proud of?

Posted by: Oz at June 30, 2009 4:53 PM

I foresee a court case in which a straight male is ordered by a gay judge to submit to homosexual intercourse based on some convoluted interpretation of verbal contract law.

Well, that's just logic! How can you say you're against something/don't like it unless you've tried it first?
