The Science-Restorer*-In-Chief

"This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and the bubbles in the sodas began to defizzle..."

Last time I checked carbon doesn't pollute water, nor is it an air quality pollutant.

Could be wrong. He is the one after all.

Posted by: allan at June 24, 2009 12:58 AM

Carbon. Life can't exist without it. That's not hyperbole; it's the plain unvarnished truth.

Posted by: gordinkneehill at June 24, 2009 1:05 AM

So it begins. The raping and pillaging of your wallet in earnest.

Obama reminds me of the Miss America contestant who said "I want to work for world peace then get my own apartment."

He thinks like an adolescent girl.

He is preaching world feudal state with benevolent leaders such as him running the planet. He will use all the usual boogy men to scare everyone into submission. Soon after we will all be Africans as far as standard of living goes.

Leaders like him are nothing but megalomaniacal thugs in disguise.

Keep him in power long enough and you will see.

". . . dangerous carbon emissions that contaminate the water we drink and pollute the air we breathe."

OK, don't think it is a good idea to add carbon to your carbonated beverages, but surely these smart people would not confuse carbon with carbon-dioxide, would they?

(or are they thinking of banning pop, beer, and chanpagne?)

Posted by: foobert at June 24, 2009 1:23 AM

sorry momar

boogy men don't scare me....nor do woogy men...

a booger man just might though...
especially if he was accompanied by a post nasal drip....

but seriously now...and i am being totally serious here....stazis don't scare me as they do jay currie...stasis do though....and as for jay seeing jennifer lynch getting her 'just deserts'...well...i just happen to think the Uighurs have suffered enuff without jay wishing her upon their homeland.

see how simple it all is ?

The Democrats are the party of science, while conservatives are the luddites and troglodytes and are anti-science. - The World According to The Left

Yet we conservatives seem to be just a tad bit better at sounding like we have a frickin clue about what we are talking about (because we do). We can even balance our religious faith with scientific advances! I know, I know, who would have thought it?

If this was a single incident of mistated rhetoric I would understand but when the Chief Architect of Cap and Trade, Waxman does it ( the ice is evaporating at the North Pole and melting the Permafrost), then the President does this Bizarro World Statement and I start to wonder what the heck is going on in the Administration staffed by AGW alarmists bow to stern and nobody caught that on before it was handed to the TOTUS.

Dems are hairless apes chasing shiny things held up in front of them like Global Warming theory, Oo Oo Ah Ah. They seem to lack the synapses to wrap their head around it as evidenced by repeated foot in mouth disorders appearing during speaking engagements. If this is the party of science we really are doomed as a species.

Obama needs to take his meds... He has no idea what he said or why... The 2 Stanks(Waxman/Markey)
may have sources for those good drugs.

Obama quote: “At a time of great fiscal challenges, this legislation [Waxman-Markey] is paid for by the polluters who currently emit the dangerous carbon emissions that contaminate the water we drink and pollute the air we breathe.

Uh, Barry, just to clarify some very basic biological chemistry (ask your kids if you don't believe me), humans BREATH IN O2 and humans BREATH OUT CO2, so are you planning on implementing a 'Breath Tax?'

How about a slogan to promote this progressive tax:

"If you're alive, you're part of the problem."

or:

"You breathe, you pay!"

But what about all the other mammals that are burning up the planet and melting the glaciers by their very existence? Don't they deserve to be punished for living as well?

Posted by: aek at June 24, 2009 2:55 AM

Maybe yeast should be taxed.

Posted by: ChrisinMB at June 24, 2009 4:10 AM

This guy says so many stupid things, demonstrating his lack of knowledge and understanding of so much different stuff.

The Old Media dutifully pretends they heard no stupidity, so they speak of none.

Of course, if Obama was a Republican President, just imagine the "stupid Obama" stories and late-night jokes...

Goebbels would be proud. From wiki:

"...he perfected an understanding of the "Big Lie" technique of propaganda, which is based on the principle that a lie, if audacious enough and repeated enough times, will be believed by the masses."

Oh No! My Brita filter is killing me!!

Posted by: Speedy at June 24, 2009 8:52 AM

The 'biggest polluters' who will be forced out of business sadly happen to be every company that produces anything and uses energy. Someday Obama will drive all of them under, and then no one will have any jobs, and our country will be less for it. Sad.

Here are some estimates for W-M:
The EPA - $98 to 140 per family per year; the CBO - $175; the GOP - $3100; the Heritage Foundation - $4300.

The only "source" that says there won't be an increased cost to Americans is the fool in the WH.

Posted by: Kathryn at June 24, 2009 9:23 AM

"If this is the party of science we really are doomed as a species."

Not so much the party of science as the party who has convinced the masses that there is a simple cause/effect relationship which explains everything. This is called "science" and anyone who suggests otherwise is an uninformed idiot and/or dangerous right-wing extremist.

Posted by: K Stricker at June 24, 2009 9:32 AM

Was dismayed to read that such a moronic thing was said by a sitting POTUS. I would have expected this from some low level Democrat, canadian Liberal, or spokesdroid for a green-red group.

Kate is right, the world is (literally) being run by crazy people.

Bu-bu-bu-but Madonna said we have to save the planet!

Posted by: Edward Teach at June 24, 2009 11:57 AM

The National Post ran an editorial in their Financial Post section last week titled "Decision-based evidence making". This is the Democrats' new scientific method - decide what you want the outcome to be, and then make up the evidence to fit the desired outcome. Why use that hoary old and inefficient scientific method of theorize, test, and discard theory if the test fails? That takes too long! This new method is blindingly efficient - decide what you want, make up the evidence to fit, and presto! new science!

Change and hope!! Oh, er.. Hope and change!

Posted by: KevinB at June 24, 2009 12:06 PM

Wow.

Just...wow.

Words simply fail me after seeing that this was said by a sitting president.

World --> Heck in a hand basket

Posted by: Colin from Mission B.C. at June 24, 2009 12:22 PM

The world doesn't need saving.
I've been around for nearly 50 years and I haven't heard the world even suggest that it needed help.

Leftists, however, live for trumped up crises.
It's the only thing that gives their shallow lives meaning....well that and trolling conservative blogs. (8^D)

Posted by: Oz at June 24, 2009 12:51 PM

It's remotely possible that he's referring to the formation of carbonic acid, H2CO3, from carbon dioxide dissolved in water. To call it a pollutant is stretching it, to say the least, given its importance as an organic compound.

Bart, please don't act too surprised about a sitting POTUS saying something idiotic on science. That's a failing many elected officials have too often displayed. Some however are wise enough to understand that they don't understand the science and keep their traps shut.

Posted by: cgh at June 24, 2009 1:35 PM

So then.
The rightfull place of science is to be abused as a political tool?

Where heve we seen this before?

Posted by: Mom's Watching at June 24, 2009 3:04 PM

OK Where HAVE we seen this before?

P/S there is no friggin way that I typed an E for an A... What gives?

Posted by: Mom's Watching at June 24, 2009 3:13 PM

We've seen it before lots of times. Second hand smoke, residential herbicides, salt intake in diet, the so-called obesity crisis, Alar, intelligent design, DDT, junk food, vaccines causing Down Syndrome, are but a mere handful of issues where science has been abused as a political tool. You can probably add just about anything ever said by any environmental group about the hazards of radiation.

Posted by: cgh at June 24, 2009 3:57 PM

If Obama does'nt know the truth then his appointed czar does. The science does not matter folks...It's all about the taxes that are desperately needed. Obama is going full tilt what Britain and most of gay Europe did 10 years ago.

Posted by: Right Honorable Terry Tory at June 24, 2009 3:59 PM

Sure Mom, since it is impossible that you could have made a typo, the only explanation is magic. There. Isn't science easy?

Posted by: randall g at June 24, 2009 9:04 PM

The Daily Reckoning (I note on another thread that KevinB is also a reader - are there any others here?) refers to three phases of American history. 1) Industrialization where the economic power of America evolved; 2) Financialization, when power migrated from industrial cities like Chicago and Pittsburgh to Wall Street; and 3) Politicalization, where all power migrates to Washington. The third stage is the prelude to the fall of empire. The election of Zero and the consideration of bills like Wackjob-Malarkey are hastening the process.

Posted by: felis corpulentis at June 24, 2009 9:49 PM

It was necessary to render the public down to stupidity in order to be certain that no critical thinking could or would be applied to any crap packaged up and delivered via the MSM and our political heros.

This has been accomplished summa cum laude. Thanks to political correctness at school boards everywhere, and union social engineering efforts.

Posted by: Shaken at June 24, 2009 10:42 PM

Wouldn't it be nice if Canada took a stand against the cult that is Global Warming.
I would bet that if someone took the lead that other countries would follow.
The European elections saw strengthened support for the right. The time is right!
