Racists - they're everywhere

According to the "new" GM, racists are even at the Huffington Post.

Or something. When Government Motors and the Huffington Post go to war whose side do you cheer for?

At least GM's design chief has a glimmer of sense when it comes to diversity:

And as for quantifying my colleagues as old white men, I can only point you to my opinion , that diversity is not only represented in skin color or gender; it is diversity of thoughts, ideas, experiences and opinions of our people, that matters and makes us strong.
Sounds nice, but I wonder what the wise Latina at the Supreme Court will think of that definition of diversity. Or for that matter I wonder if he's run that by the Car-Salesman-in-Chief.

Something tells me Ed Welburn will soon be entering a re-education seminar...

Can't have folks, especially in Obama's Peoples' Car Company, talking about "diversity of voices/opinions". Too dangerous. Too "right-wing extremist".

Gotta toe the party line if one wants to work for Gov't Motors...

You don't cheer, you hope for an asteroid.

Just a Comment... I was a successful convert from the Harvard Project Management methodology (endless team meetings defining every detail) to the GM methodology of building on what you know & tools that challenge engineers to take ownership.

The GM methodology rocks (Gold Standard).. although Cars may suck

WARNING!!! totally stereotypical comment and politically incorrect terminology to follow. I implore any on the left to stop reading this comment now...

I want a car that a) works with minimal intervention b) looks reasonalbly attractive while stock c) has all the gadgets like GPS and hands free cell phone and a universal MP3 player dock.(I HATE Apple i-stuff like iPODS, iPhones they are for iDIOTS)

I do not want 22 inch back lit spinner rims on my pickup truck because GM design studios are populated with young black guys, I do not want HUGE air foils or whale tails because asians are in the affirmitive action pool, nor do I want hydralyic shocks that make the car bounce to get that latino flavour.

I do not want 74 point safety harnesses and car seat hooks on every flat surface because a pregnant mom was lead designer nor do I want a vanity mirror that pops up from the dash and a rechargable curling iron built in for that last minute hair check because Bambi wants to build a car.

Here is some simple features I do want...

A computer on-board that dims your hi-beams automatically when you stop. Plus a turn indicator that becomes progressively louder the longer it is on. Plus a fog detector that turns fog lights on and off so people stop thinking their fog lights are "extra" head lights and have them on all the time.

Sorry I had alot of caffiene today...

Kathy Shaidle must be on deadline today or she'd have said this already:

"Can't they both lose?"

Posted by: The Phantom at June 10, 2009 12:11 AM

I don't want a vehicle designed by any committee any salesman any marketing knob any politician any risk analyst geek any political activist or any environmentalist.

I don't want or need anything to be automatic.
Although I'll concede that computer controlled engine management and transmissions are great.

I'll go with IA on the electronics like the cell phone and the music dock.
A standard cell phone interface (blue tooth or HSUSB) and a standard audio interface.. coupled to a solid amplifier and NO OTHER crap.

Good thing I can keep my own vehicles running and I'm pretty sure the two ten year old SUVs I own will be running fine in another 10 years.

I'll also have my old 280Z on the road for the foreseeable future.

Ad a couple of motorcycles to the mix and good to go.

Illiquid Assets, I'll add to your list one specification that DeeTroit seems to have been having major trouble will these last 30 years. I'd like a car that isn't so bland and tasteless that it comes in at -5 on the coolness scale. Detroit cars since 1973 with three exceptions could suck all the cool out of a Harley just by parking next to it.

Those exceptions are the new Mustang, the Pontiac Solstice and the new Challenger. The new Camaro you can't really buy yet. Corvettes? Ew. Vipers are unobtanium, no different than Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

Call me a Luddite.
But I want a phone, a cell phone, that is just a phone. I'm sure they could make one that fits in my ear.

I want a car that is just a car circa 1973 when I could open up the hood and see the street below. I am tired of paying for gadgets that I didn't ask for. I want a four door four cylinder family sedan with manual rollup windows, no air, and no ABS. I want a '73 Datsun 510.
And you only seem to get those kinds of cars from the bottom end of the market.
Even Hyundai has gone upscale. I'll give Tata a look.
I just want a product that meets the lowest common denominator because there are so many other things in life to spend my scarce dollars on.
I am tired of getting upsold by default.

And post Luddite, I want a cable company that gives me pay per view on the stuff that I want to watch. Not the stuff that they force me to pay for.
I'm slowly moving to the torrent universe.

Why can't I buy an AM radio to listen to that looks like an Ipod?
I am going to have to make my own.

Tired of having to buy because that is the market.
I just want minimal utility.
Because that is all that I want and all that I need.

If I have a hobby or a pastime where I want something more then let me have it.
But in the day to day of life there are so many things that I have to swallow and I can't swallow anymore.
I'd rather spit.

Besides the Magna Carta, freeing slaves, voting rights for everyone, human rights legislation etc. What have old white men done for us lately?

Posted by: Philanthropist at June 10, 2009 5:15 AM

1965 mustang convertable.

A 2010 mb S600 (v12) or one with the twin turbo diesel v-8 not currently available in cda. You Guys can have your hair shirt cars, I want air conditioned seats and radar cruise control when it's 30 c and I'm stuck on the deer foot.

You hope for mutually assured destruction.

Diversity only means whatever is expedient for today's extortion

Posted by: billypaintbrush at June 10, 2009 3:14 PM

Re "racists everywhere".

This is true but only in the metaphorical sense.

There is a "racist" behind every lost leftwing argument and every exposed leftwing fib.

Those who witness and acknowledge the objective loss of leftwing credibility are just "mean spirited".

However it is "racists" who are primarily responsible for logically unraveling leftist spin.

Get used to this rash of abstract racism because as long as there are venal leftwing politics, reasoned criticism of leftwing policies will be labeled "racism".
