Blog Notes

It's that time of year again. I'll be leaving today for an extended show circuit over the next two weeks, and while I'll be online from time to time, posting will be decidedly intermittent.

In the meantime, our guest bloggers and the blogroll should keep you entertained.

Or failing that, push back your chair, get out and enjoy the snow!

Burger King signs;

Any dots to connect here ? Such as;

General Electric would profit greatly from Obama's Global Warming legislation dot dot dot GE uses it's corporate muscle to stifle bad press about Obama dot dot dot

[ It's a very dangerous situation when any huge multinational corporation wages war against media companies. Especially when that huge multinational corporation is General Electric, which itself owns a media company, NBC Universal, and it's using all its power and influence and money to try to harm another media company, Nielsen, and Nielsen Business Media, and its trade publication The Hollywood Reporter. This certainly sounds like a situation which the FCC, and the FTC, and the U.S. Justice Department should be investigating. Just one problem: the controversy stems from GE/NBCU's coverage of President Obama. Here's what happened:

According to my sources inside and outside Nielsen Business Media, The Hollywood Reporter trade publication ran a story dated April 22nd and updated on April 24th covering the "drama" at the most recent GE shareholders meeting in Orlando. THR's West Coast Business Editor Paul Bond wasn't sent to the meeting, but he interviewed about half a dozen people who'd been inside the shareholders meeting and told him what transpired (see below). Bond's THR story focused on the attempts by stockholders and Fox News Channel and other media to find out whether or not GE Chairman/CEO Jeffrey Immelt ordered his news operations to be less critical of President Obama and his policies.] Hollywood Daily

Thanks for posting the link and information about GE, ron in kelowna. Fox news is the only news channel worth listening to, IMO. It has been a very welcome addition to our household because we are interested in the world and it's news. We never watch any other news channel - I get my Canadian news right here at SDA.

Yesterday, Fox news replayed the words of PMSH when they introduced the D-Day events in France.

The address of PMSH, yesterday, made me feel very proud to be a citizen of Canada who helped choose such a generous, intelligent, articulate Man to be the representative of my beautiful nation. PMSH, unlike the French officials, includes English speaking Canadians as equal to the Quebec Canadians (half of PMSH's speech was in English, the French officials played our national anthem in French only! Makes a person wonder why we bothered to save their sorry hides from the Nazi's - do the French people know that most Quebec soldiers refused to fight in the war and had to be drafted into service?) My Mom was in the service, RCAF, (Mom was one of those daughters that Obama forgot about in his speech, the 0 just mentioned the sons) and she was in recruiting, she does know the score on this issue. Mom went to London and dodged bombs (for the information of the Zero fans who never doubt his credibility!) to save those French people from the Nazi's; the motto of the RCAF women's division was: "we serve so that men may fly". PMSH praised the brave men and women who saved civilization on the beaches at Normandy.

I am insulted for the English speaking Canadian soldiers - I hope that the ingrates in France will apologise for their incredible lapse of judgement and good will.

Canada and Great Britain were not invited to this Memorial until the last minute and then under duress...Sarkozy directed his whole speech to the boy President of the USA. It was very strange. G. Brown made a pretty good speech considering his frumpy, beaten dog demeanour. Prince Charles looked like a lump squeezed in between Brown and Obama - PMSH was the only Dignitary at that Commemoration and he shone brightly for the soldiers of yesterday and of today. Thank-you Mr. Prime Minister of Canada, on behalf of all soldiers and their supporters fighting on the side of the good guys.

Sorry to be a bit off topic Kate.

Go well the road, Kate. And, good luck!

Jema54, I was extremely proud of PMSH at the D-Day ceremonies. He's the only speaker who spoke in both English and French, and very competently and eloquently.

My husband and I watched the CTV coverage, and what pi**ed me off was that PMSH's very fine speech wasn't even acknowledged, just Obama's -- and by Major General Lewis Mackenzie, at that.

Our fine Prime Minister is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't. At least the ceremonies were televised so all thinking Canadians will see how well our PM represented our country and how eloquently he eulogized our fallen soldiers and praised the members of our present military.

What I love about Stephen Harper is that he just keeps keeping on. When he comes to a fork in the road, or a forked tongue, he goes straight ahead.

Slow and steady wins the race.
