While it was refreshing to see a mainstream Canadian journalist on the right side of the policital aisle to give some semblance of balance, however inadequate, to the massive left side of the aisle, I must say it is unsettling to see the Conservative political charge lead in Eastern Canada by someone who enjoys the security of an appointed Senate seat rather than an elected official. The circumstances of the messenger matter, I think.

"You know what made me a partisan? The Liberals."

Ditto.

Posted by: Right Honorable Terry Tory at June 3, 2009 12:20 PM

I am just glad to see a Senator speak his mind with all out the 'pc' crap. Hoping he keeps it up and maybe others will follow.

Posted by: Merle Underwood at June 3, 2009 12:24 PM

Duffy's email addy ?? Deserves support.

Posted by: ron in kelowna at June 3, 2009 12:27 PM

Danny Williams has more intelligence in his little finger than Duffman has in his well should I say substantial body. Duffman as usual is full of a lot of hot air; glad to see Harpo backtracked on his appointment of senators policy. Harpo is getting good at changing policies over night. As Danny Williams said "Harper is a liar and a fraud" and vote ABC.

Posted by: T at June 3, 2009 12:30 PM

Forgive T everyone, the welfare cheques came out just 2 days ago...He's still high or drunk or both.

Posted by: Right Honorable Terry Tory at June 3, 2009 12:38 PM

In response to T:

"Mike Duffy has more intelligence in his little finger than Danny-doofus has in his well should I say substantial body. Danny-doofus as usual is full of a lot of hot air; glad to see the Prime Minister made an excellent choice on his appointment of senators. Prime Minister Harper is getting good. As Mike Duffy would likely agree "Danny-doofus is a liar and a fraud" and vote ABCS (Anybody But Communists/Socialists)."

There you go, T. Kinda meaningless, isn't it...yet just as valid as your statement.

Posted by: S at June 3, 2009 12:42 PM

I like Duffy he always struck me as a straight shooter. Well as much as he could be and still be employed. When he thought someone was BSing him you could tell by the way he responded no matter which party they represented.

Posted by: Speedy at June 3, 2009 12:52 PM

What has Duffy ever done for this country except pontificicate meaninglessly, spouting conservative pap? Danny Williams has done a hell of a lot for NFLD. He didn't bend over backwards to oil companies, but rather took the hard line, unlike that clown of a Kline in Alberta who kissed their ass. Williams said vote Anybody But Conservative; hence, not one conservative elected in NFLD! I have never collected a welfare cheque in my life, however, I do not disparage those that need it and am glad we live in a country where social programs such as social assistance exist.

Posted by: T at June 3, 2009 12:56 PM

Danny and Duffy

Danny made his money off the Duff sitters in Nfld.

dey was watchin da Cable TV while they all sat on der duffs collecting da dole yessir .

Posted by: cal2 at June 3, 2009 12:57 PM

an' remmemmer T , befores ya gets all 'igh and mighty about me saying stuff bout Danny, I's one of ye.

Posted by: cal2 at June 3, 2009 1:00 PM

Mr T stated: Williams said vote Anybody But Conservative; hence, not one conservative elected in NFLD! I have never collected a welfare cheque in my life, however, I do not disparage those that need it and am glad we live in a country where social programs such as social assistance exist.

Yes, and Danny boy thought Nfld was entitled to it's welfare cheques, even after it found work and became a 'have' province. That makes no sense, which of course is why you're for it.

Posted by: doowleb at June 3, 2009 1:14 PM

This Yank had only watched a few streaming videos of Duffy in his TV journalist days and I wasn't all that impressed. Better that the usual leftard talking heads but not brilliant.

But now Duffy seems to be shaping up as a good, hard hitting, says-what-he-really-thinks Conservative. Go for it, Mike! :-)

I agree John B.

It really is unfortunate that the Liberal governed Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island doesn't value democracy enough to elect their senate representatives so that Prime Minister Stepehn Harper could appoint the people's choice.
Ah, well, more's the pity.

"Yes, and Danny boy thought Nfld was entitled to it's welfare cheques, even after it found work and became a 'have' province. That makes no sense, which of course is why you're for it."

Identical situation in Sask. Lorne Calvert and the NDP became absolutely apoplectic when Sask became a "have" province after years of socialist stagnation and no longer required a welfare cheque.

"Bucky the beaver"?

Duff is no gift to Fitness magazine either. I think cheap shots cheapen the discourse.

We all know that the Greens are wrong headed on many issues as are the Libs and Dippers.

Just stay on message.

Posted by: PhilM at June 3, 2009 1:35 PM

That's funny. The same thing that made Duff a partisan made me leave the country for ten years.

The Liberals.

Posted by: The Phantom at June 3, 2009 1:43 PM

"T" said: "What has Duffy ever done for this country except pontificicate meaninglessly, spouting conservative pap?"

"T" stands for 'Tard, right? And you spelled pontificate wrong. 'tard.

PhilM
"We all know that the Greens are wrong headed on many issues as are the Libs and Dippers."

I agree we should all stop personal insults. Now someone should tell the Libs, Dips and Greenies that. I seem to remember a debate with that Ratchet May at the table and she was embarrassing herself with her visceral hatred for PMSH. Didn't she once try to compare him to Hitler.

"You know what made fat as a pig" Over-consumption!

Posted by: not stirred enough said at at June 3, 2009 2:03 PM

What a coincidence! The Liberals, along with the NDP, Democrats, the Elite Media and the Left as a whole are what made me a partisan...

Sometimes you simply HAVE to be a partisan, as it's the right thing to do, long as you're on the RIGHT side.

Posted by: Canadian Sentinel at June 3, 2009 2:09 PM

PhilM "I think cheap shots cheapen the discourse." Perhaps they do . . . but they are also occasionally a breath of fresh air in a relentlessly PC world. (i.e. no one may use the words tar baby even if they are talking about a sticky situation) Kind of like letting a bit of steam off so the whole thing does not explode. And you are exactly right Duff is not the poster boy for fitness and he probably does not object to anyone noticing. He's down to earth that way. I actually miss him on TV. I thought he was even- handed and a most gracious host.

And --daverbonz -- you are right in noting that that May's attacks have been far more mean-spirited and vicious.

How can't you love Duffy? And a reminder today of a great liberal legacy.

Did Mike mention Ad$Cam?

More from CTV*: Liberal Ad$Scam.

Ad$SCam keeps on giving to Liberal Iggy.

>>> More names of perps to come: will Stephane Dion be among the names? Jean Chretien? Paul Martin Jr.? Denis Coderre? ?????
…-

*”However, Corbeil says he will reveal who profited from the scam, suggesting more names will come out in connection with the scandal that helped to bring down Paul Martin’s minority Liberal government in 2006.

Two separate scams

In 1997, Corbeil took a $50,000 Liberal donation from a businessman south of Montreal on a promise to clear up red tape in a complicated land deal. The businessman had wanted to expand a quarry in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

The fraud charge stems from Corbeil signing for Liberal bills that he knew were fake and then funneling $117,000 to companies owned by the late Joe Morselli, a onetime Liberal organizer. Corbeil was arrested and charged in April of last year.

A public inquiry found the sponsorship program gave $150 million to Liberal-friendly ad agencies in Quebec for little or no work while the Grits were in power.”

…-

More:

“Corbeil admitted that back in 1997 he accepted 50-thousand dollars in cash in an envelope from Réal Ouimet, a businessman who wanted to buy federal land to expand his quarry in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Corbeil saying he could make it happen.

“He [Corbeil] just told Mr. Ouimet that he would talk to the right person in Ottawa,” said crown prosecutor Josée Fontaine.”

and the ugly remarks re 'bucky the beaver' and the 'whack job in newfy' ?...sorry puffster...that's not a class act....

Posted by: john begley at June 4, 2009 12:00 AM

John,

Duff does the same routine at all his 'private' speaking engagements. They aren't supposed to be open to the media and he's certainly well aware of cameras and microphones.

As for being a (genuine) conservative, I admit I had my reservations as well at first, however after listening to him speak...there's no doubt in my mind.

His poli-sci prof was Dief the Chief and he doesn't have much nice to say about Trudeau. He does have a frightening story or two about what a 'whack job' he was though.

Why not go listen to him and make an informed decision?

Posted by: Gen. Lee Wright at June 4, 2009 5:45 AM

If cartoonists routinely exaggerate peoples "ugly" features in their work, why is it so offensive to just come out and say things like "bucky the beaver". I think it is hilarious and the people that get all suicidal when they hear such things just makes me laugh even harder.

Posted by: the champ at June 4, 2009 8:43 AM

I have to say that John Begley makes an interesting point. While it is some what refreshing to hear the remarks of an ex political jounalist dumping on the Libs and their nefarious goings on, one also has to admit that someone like Duffy did benefit from being a part of the Trudeauvian cult and it's media empire. Or maybe growing up in Trudeauviastan has maybe me a little cynical. I would be interested to hear what Duffy has to say about fancy pants Trudeau today though.
