Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Winnipeg Free Press - The university said the race-based bursary proposal would violate university policy and provincial human rights law.
University of Saskatchewan - Search for Awards - Results: Aboriginal Students - 36 Listings
Posted by Kate at May 14, 2009 11:15 AM"Offered annually to a full-time entering, undergraduate, or graduate Sikh student. Selection will be based on demonstrated financial need and academic."
Doesn't this one also violate Provincial Human Rights Law?
Or can Aboriginals who are members of the Sikh faith apply?
Posted by: dmorris at May 14, 2009 11:37 AMHow about Visible Minoritys that are white?
Posted by: Speedy at May 14, 2009 11:38 AMThe trouble with Affirmative Action and the Charter of Rights is they set the precedent for this sort of thing. The folks who came up with this blatant form of racism never thought that it could be turned around and used against them. The Charter is so fuzzy on who can and can't be denied education and jobs based on race that it will come down to whoever is in power to decide. Any group can become a target. Just wait until there's a mosque on every corner and see what happens.
Man, oh man, oh man but am I ever sick of politically correct hypocrites. Show me a native who has a degree and I'll show you a person who had his education funded by the taxpayer.
Posted by: BCer at May 14, 2009 11:46 AMI thought I recognized your dulcet tones on Gormley yesterday, Kate. Has he jumped the shark?
Posted by: kdl at May 14, 2009 12:25 PMAs it is with so many of these race based systems such as the native reserve system, the hypocrisy is glaring. It's an attempt to have just a little bit of apartheid.
Posted by: DrD at May 14, 2009 12:30 PMLots of listings exclusive to women. None to men. Women make up 65-70% of university admissions. I guess the PC hypocrite's discrimination has worked...
Minorities, native excluded, are over-represented in universities as well.
The leftard hatmemongers' excuses for discriminating on behalf of trendy victim groups is weak.
That isn't to say I want the government or anyone else to discriminate on behalf of white dudes. Just not against white dudes.
Posted by: Warwick at May 14, 2009 12:55 PMJuxtapose - the power of comparison !!
I can see it becoming a huge part of sda. A lot, a lot of material out there. Especially in the Political Correctness pile.
Posted by: ron in kelowna at May 14, 2009 1:01 PMron; pile is the right description. Trouble is our younger generation is so indoctrinated with this pile they not only accept it but embrace it.
Posted by: Gunney99 at May 14, 2009 1:27 PMWell stated 'Gunney99'.

Kate...just on the first page of listings alone,I counted 79 Indian only grants. The socialist quagmire that is manitoba only gets worse.Time to start selling "equal rights hypocrisy" bats before the commies start registering them too!!
Posted by: Justthinkin at May 14, 2009 2:01 PMSomeone should inform the University of Sask that race-based treatment of aboriginals is official government policy.
Posted by: JR at May 14, 2009 2:05 PMMy sister taught Aesthetics for a number of years. She had 2 Native Indian students take the same course 3 times. They got paid like they were working, to slack off in school.

Perhaps they mis-read the course title and thought they were in the anesthetics class.
Posted by: glasnost at May 14, 2009 2:18 PMIs Norbert Leslie Dumais nominated for any of the scholarships?
Posted by: andycanuck at May 14, 2009 2:30 PMI've come to realize after the last election in the US that everything I was taught in school about not discriminating or judging someone on their race only applies to white men. I spoke to many people during the said election cycle, and many of these people(not whites) had no qualms about saying they'd vote for BO because "he's black", but more importantly because he's "not a white guy".
Personally I don't have a problem with this, after all it's human nature to do so, to identify with someone that looks like you. My beef is with the public school system and the lie they've propagated that everyone will be judged on their merit, not their race. They should have told us that this rule only applies to white guys. Every other group of people is free to discriminate how they see fit.
I don't think any examples are required to make my point; there's no need to state the obvious.
all animals are created equal, some are more equal than others.
Animal Farm ,George Orwell I believe.
Posted by: cal2 at May 14, 2009 3:10 PMWell if they can't make any of the free racist scholarships not to worry there are exclusive Indian homeless shelters here just waiting to judge their skin colour.
Posted by: richfisher at May 14, 2009 3:15 PMI remember a former Reform MP in Saskatchewan dragged over the coals for having similar deemed radical ideas. How the times change.
Posted by: Money Masters at May 14, 2009 3:43 PMThis is a sad commentary on our society.
The anonymous donor is now being portrayed as a racist when, in fact, all she was attempting to accomplish was to provide funding for those that are not already being looked after in some form or another. Being disadvantaged is not strictly reserved for those of aboriginal backgrounds.
The university, although dead wrong in refusing the money, really had no choice. If they had accepted the cash and the stipulation attached, the cries of "racism" would have been deafening and the politically-correct academics at the U of S would have suffered seizures.
Don't think for a minute that Lawrence Joseph wasn't poised to call a news conference and pull that ever-present race card out of his sleeve.
Posted by: biffjr. at May 14, 2009 3:58 PMIn our modern, enlightened times, only"
men can be sexist
straight people can be sexualphobic
white people can be racist
Fred, you couldn't be more wrong. Especially, straight white men, whom are the target for every group in society that wants to make a statement, justify their phony-balony jobs or push their social engineering agenda. Political Correctness has become a disease which is spread and used as a tool by the so called disadvantaged. Of course it also works well for getting your picture in the paper when you have nothing else to offer society.
Posted by: wafer at May 14, 2009 9:20 PMI always get a laugh out of that hypocrite John Gormley. He mocks B. Obama but says the same line of its not racist cause ALL indians are hard done by. The best we can get out of the media when it comes to natives is lies. Cause usually we get half truths/half lies. Which is far worst. Because the people who speak lies know what the truth is and are just ignoring it. The John Gormleys have forgotten what the truth is. An example Gormley stated that the treaties state that education will be funded by the fed. Not true what the treaties say is "a school house shall be built on each reserve". Not funded, ran or maintained just built. Time for this reversed racism to go NOW!!!!
