Eric Margolis, Is That You?

"For no apparent reason I'm starting another paragraph. Finally, the political and social climate of Canada will begin to transform into that of Iran if the RCMP gets away with this. What keeps the Iranian regime solvent? Hatred and fear. Hatred of people who step out of line. Hatred of people who don't conform to the most "conservative" standards of their society. Hatred of "traitors" who protest against the government while the country is surrounded on all sides by ruthless, vicious enemies. Hatred of those who would "abuse" their rights in order to "attack" the society that raised them. All those hatreds are felt by a sizeable minority in every country. In the USA it was the 30% that supported bush II through all his crimes and blundering. In Canada its the "small dead animals," "Free Dominion," "dust my broom" crowd and the much larger group of mindless, deluded harpercon voters. For everyone else, there's fear. Fear of poverty. Fear of prison. Fear of torture. Fear of death. Fear of the unaccountable goons who roam about enforcing compliance to a hateful, failed system. As the system fails it becomes more paranoid, more violent."

Is he tying to say that Iran has an affirmative action police force?

Posted by: Bernie at April 25, 2009 10:20 AM

This lefties just do not have any grasp on reality anymore. To the extent that Canada is like Iran, it is because of their policies. They would have to stop doing what they do, in order for Canada to revert to the Christian, western democracy that they don't want, but that produced them in the first place.

Posted by: Kevin Lafayette at April 25, 2009 10:23 AM

I'm not sure what the hell that dude is trying to say.

I don't feel like wasting 2 minutes of my life reading it again. Hey, I feel just like I do after I read Margolis....

I thought rape, torture and murder was Iranian justice.

He might be surprised to find that it was our kinder, gentler, soft-power wielding, never saw a culture they couldn't excuse Liberal government who did absolutely nothing about Zahra Kazemi.

hmmm..same style and loose attempt at analogy as we read in Iggy's book. And same lack of sense or real connection to Canadians.
And he missed Joanne (BLY) and Kathy. The guy still has a lot to learn.

Kevin...Margolis is best to be avoided in occasional Sun Media print. He always sounds like he'd be much happier living under Chavez,Castro, or the in the middle east.Wonder what holds him back.Oh...perhaps the so-called freedom of the press.
My guess on why he went ahead with the last paragraph: the internet in general and bloggers in particular are getting under the skin of the likes of Margolis.

Joanne, Kathy,Kate, Connie and Mark, and Darcy...keep it!!Don't stop until they feel the rug moving out from under their feet too!

Posted by: bluetech at April 25, 2009 10:36 AM

Wait, is he actually saying that SDA keeps Canada solvent? And by 'solvent', if I understand him, he is asserting that this means a regime of terror, brutality and corruptness - as in Iran. So, SDA enables a regime of terror? ahh, the power.

Is he actually saying that IF you vote for Harper/Conservatives, THEN, you are keeping Canada 'solvent' in this manner?

He mentions then, the tactics of maintaining such totalitarian solvency.

There's hatred of people with different opinions - heck, we saw the example of that in the vicious attacks by the left against Palin, against the Ms California/Ms USA contest, in the vicious attacks by the left against the Tea Parties.

Then, there's anyone who dissents from, who questions, who wants to examine the actions of govt. This is Not Allowed by the left, because the country is 'surrounded on all sides by ruthless, vicious enemies". He's referring to Canada? We are surrounded on three sides by oceans and on one side by the US. So - who are the 'ruthless, vicious enemies"?

'Attacking the society' that raised them is an abuse of rights? Again, does this mean that one is not allowed to critique, question, dissent from the Authorities?

I think he's paranoid.

Too funny- if the writer only knew that it is he and his ilk that are doing the very thing he accuses those he bashes of doing.

Hatred of those who want personal responsibility and choice.

Hatred of those who want the same rights as the minorities.

Hatred of Stephen Harper for being admired on the word stage and using that hatred to attack him and his supporters.

Hatred of those of us who actually believe that we should stand up for our rights, that everyone should be equal in this country, that we shouldn't coddle those, like the writer, who think that they should be taken care of.

Before political correctness in-the-extreme took over, Policemen, er Policepersons were of the rather 'well-put-together' and 'rugged' types. In a dicey situation they could handle themselves armed only with themselves.

Today, I notice many, many smallish Police Officers. Can you blame them if the tazers come out quickly ? Too many tazer jolts in the Van airport ? Sure. But it is probably their first reaction when confronting someone bigger than them.

An interesting passage.

Mostly autobiographical, I'd assume.

I pray he will find a way to conquer the hate and fear that fuel his paranoia before coming up with the inevitable violent end that many of these ‘mentally challenged' human beings drift toward.

Of course, without somebody stoking these self-generated feelings of paranoia, there cannot be drug market.

What you describe and rail against is 'statism'. That is a hobby horse of the far left and fascist governments where they exist. The urge to have conformity is a collectivist view. That is far left.

The police state of Nazi Germany came from the statist desire for control and conformity. Hitlers socialist party wanted everyone to be an obedient Arian.

The conformity in the former Soviet Union and of China and North Korea are all of the Statist variety that comes from far left collectivist thinking.

That is what Obama is working toward in the USA.

Only individualism and free enterprise can protect us from this sort of hell.

That is the what SDA and the other blogs you mention are working for. More freedom and self-reliance, more individuality in our society.

You must not being actually reading those blogs, but insist you understand their nature. That is what millions of uninformed Americans do to Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly.

You are confused and do not understand whose who and what's what on planet earth at this time.

Please do some reading and education yourself. Your teachers and university profs were lying to you.

Learn the meaning of freedom and forget about the false security of the entitlement culture.

Since the collapse of the Reform Party there has been no organized/effective conservative movement in the country. Who can he be thinking about? The open cheque book form of government that exists around the world should be his best dream come true! The best form of government is that, that insists the grassroots people take responsibility for their governance not the bureaucrats that actually run things. It is no mistake that there has never been another referendum in this country since Meech Lake.

The Nazi type laws created for tobacco smoking citizens go so far beyond rational that people are dying! The extreme anti tobacco laws are all provincial and municipal laws; he is barking up the wrong tree by blaming our anti ban Prime Minister. (It is on the record, for those interested, Stephen Harper is in favor of individual choice for businesses and individuals re smoking tobacco). The guy should go ask for a job with the Owe, down south, this is the type of radical that the gang in the Whitehouse favor - the fact that he and the new President could have a smoke together should make him a shoo in!

What we see in Obamaland right now, is the essence of living beyond one's means, and instead of dealing with the pain of it all, and getting over it, The Anointed One is just prolonging, and likely making the pain more unbearable in the long run.

There's this concept of free will, something that every human being has within them.

Free will basically means people have the ability to decide for them the direction of their life.

They are free to appreciate what they have, to overcome any obstacles thrown in their way and to define their own inner peace through a series of decisions that are based on knowing the difference between right and wrong.

The writer is the author is his own misfortune and tragically lives in a prison of his own design in a self-imposed slavery that rages against those have found contentment.

Posted by: set you free at April 25, 2009 12:48 PM

I won't comment on the politics of the author, but what really concerns me is the RCMP's downward slide for the last thirty years, as politically correct hiring policies have castrated a once excellent police force that was respected world -wide.

The town in Manitoba I grew up in, 1950's and 60's, was policed by two RCMP officers. Their territory included five of what we used to call, in unenlightened times, "Indian Reservations", and about four other small towns.

On Saturday nights, the officers regularly had to break up fights at the local bar, featuring persons of all ethnic background, but the largest percentage of brawlers were what we ignorant peasants used to call, "Drunken Indians".

I personally witnessed many instances of RCMP officers wading into a brawl. It wasn't easy, as both unarmed combatants would usually turn on the cop.
The cops they stationed in my home town were usually well over six feet tall, and over two hundred pounds, and were always first rate street fighters.

The end result was always the same, everyone involved was battered and bruised, the brawlers always ended up arrested, and the cop had another chapter added to his local legend.

It was SOP for cops to engage in fights to keep the peace, and those guys did a damned good job. We all admired their fearlessness in taking on two or more snarly brutes at once.

The new breed of RCMP, those who aren't tiny women officers, seem to have a dread of physical contact, and fear for their well being well beyond reasonable concern.

In short, they are physical cowards, and are more than willing to use weapons on anyone they encounter.

The Dziekanski affair was a national disgrace, and the officers involved should all be fired. I watched the video of the affair with several nurses, and they all said they deal with far more dangerous people on almost every shift, with no violence resulting.

Some of it is due to their lack of proper training, and a lot of it has to do with character, and lately, the RCMP seems to lack officers with any character, willing to lie under oath, bully ordinary citizens, and say or do anything to save their precious careers.

The RCMP has come along way from Sam Steele, to Canada's great loss.

I can't imagine that any conservative would feel anything but concern and revulsion for the over-reaction of the YVR police in the tragic tasering incident. People make mistakes and perhaps we are inclined to give people the benefit of the doubt, but clearly this was not something that should ever be repeated in Canada. This taser technology needs a serious overhaul for one thing.

So I don't know where this person got their idea that some screaming crowd of Harperites wanted this to happen. In fact, with regard to Free Dominion, he/she seems blissfully unaware that Harperites are an endangered species thanks to the Section 13 debacle.

But for or against Harper, there are no screaming crowds of conservatives anywhere but perhaps at a human rights tribunal, where they are screaming for mercy. Or perhaps gathered around a TV set watching the weather report and screaming with laughter.

Posted by: foobert at April 25, 2009 1:38 PM

dmorris - Up here in the Yukon an RCMP officer chased down a car thief - in the stolen car - the thief stopped the car and jumped out and headed out across some open lots. The officer ran him down and in a one to one with the thief; the thief had learned some Martial Arts in the jailhouse, the thief deadlocked the officer and began choking him to death. The officer pulled out his gun and said that he would shoot if the thief did not release him, the thief kept chocking so the officer shot the thief in the knee; the thief did not let go - so the officer shot and killed the crook to save his own life.

Followed by a court martial for the RCMP officer in the court house and the local North American Indian 'spokespeople'. The officer was accused of racism and murder, his life here became impossible - he left the Yukon and I think he left the force.

Not once was the issue of the owner of the car addressed , the criminal record of the crook was blamed on Residential schools. Now why is it , again, that RCMP officers don't like to touch the crooks? The hospital in Kamloops called the RCMP to taser an 81 year old man who had 'lost it' - the taser killed the old man. The health outfits are no more 'hero's' than the rest of the PC idiots that run all the s(n)ival Services in this control freak society. RCMP officers are individuals - some good, some bad.

The airport in Vancouver is to blame for the death of Mr. D, the Polish Immigrant, not the RCMP. The RCMP were following orders, the PC Airport nitwits were rude and negligent. Mr. D's mom was there to pick him up and the airport sent her away , saying that her son was not there. Why did the airport officials do that? Why was it Soooo important that they clear out this 'off the wall' white man so everything was 'peaceful' for the Asian plane due to arrive? Those officers, IMO, did not intend to kill Mr. D. and 1000 to 1 the RCMP did not know that they were dealing with a chain smoker who had not had a smoke for 18 hours and was in nic withdrawal or he overdosed on nic drugs. Either would make this man's heart very vulnerable. What do you think - yes they were told or no they were not told? If they were told then I do agree with you, the officers should all be charged and put in the jailhouse...otherwise other heads should roll.

Posted by: Jema54 at April 25, 2009 1:40 PM

I saw 4 RCMP kill someone who was scared they would hurt him... they did way more than that and got away with it. They belong behind bars with the general population of scum that inhabit prisons.

I too blame the Airport wogs, but I still blame those four nitwit RCMP officers for killing that man. They could have dealt with it better if they had given it more than the 30 seconds they waited before tasing him five times and putting a heavy knee on his throat.

They are all guilty.

Posted by: Hello Birdy at April 25, 2009 2:11 PM

How many times a year are tasers used in Canada ?

What percent cause injury to the perpetrator ?

What percent help protect others from the perpetrator ?

Again, if it wasn't so politically incorrect to hire Officers who could manage the situation, Officers may not be relying on tasers and guns so often.

The rule of unintended consequences. aka latte liberals always get it wrong.

The biggest concerns I have about Canada are the increasing centralization of power in the Federal government and the usurpation of traditional freedoms by the police. Cops are never found guilty of anything anymore, never punished even for obvious and egregious violations of innocent individuals. The difference between Canada and Iran is one of -degree-, not kind. Most people who comment here share these concerns.

Then break to Middle East:

Then go to Canada:

Etc... Question raised is not only study of past
Is study of today?

How those tortures create more hate and lead to more terrorist organization or lead to war

Freedom of speech in certain extend and
Prevent of those to certain extend

As all government include Canada try to say they are against torture while are not act it right and even torture can not be physically they can hold Muslim for so long do not give job to black and show their hate in direction create hate too

How to direct intelligent
Study of each country and change Iranian wrong method of torture is not label only for
IRANIAN or CANADIAN can used every where today in all countries in different shape all of us know about it.

One may more than others can not give excuse that most country has used different kind of torture.
if hate not directed it get exploded to war and worse scenario and more murder as we hear daily in news right or wrong still some one kill other person is wrong to look at it and must get reduce to do this over revenge religion race or politic or money and power

----
list of the most FBI and CIA wanted
but before check the statues of what they look for are real documents attached to it

CIA can investigate not go above limit
as what you do you must expec other countries to do the same limit too to keep country safe not make other country in fight to made yourself safe

keep limit and power of abuse

Posted by: new at April 25, 2009 4:00 PM

Social relationship are changed recently and people expectation and made sense and guts to act more reasonable and more based on respect human right and privacy and limit you can go or break in absolute power of I like to say any word I like to say or walk naked do not care children watching or cover my eyes and not care if I can see or acting too extreme and if some one come close to me and ask me to change or like to keep their choice must get arrested go to jail or even torture for happiness of more people lets some are suffer who care.

Now people get change are traveling and are link together can not put lion in scene and watch to kill each others or kill soldier like Roman Empire.

Or let people get torture just know who are their friend are to interrupt some people happiness and having torture other is old history and using equipment and technology cam from Europe and America if USA decided to change all countries must get change their view of see differences and has not right to torture other for talk or ideas there is not even need to do so too.

If you believe drug affect you so as alcohol then why not stop alcohol since people like excitement or more damage to ban it come on stop all gambling and alcohol to ways to help your brain working properly.

Put watching lion fight later changed to game fighting.

You pay a $1000 to seat in front seat of basketball to see entertainment because human like social relationship like once a while watch or stay in crowd and be happy or excited or leave sport room angrily of loose their football game and add some girls half naked dance in middle is other entertainment while in fact most those football player are have so much injury and some brain damage and excess sport not make them real sport smart guy but also disable when they got old and half of sport watcher are go under stress of loose game and fight as we see in England over each time wino r loose football soccer still people love the game and watching it and even when you seat for 2 to 4 hour watch game you are not in tray mill to at least you do sport while you watching or seat in message chair of Japanese message made your blood circulation done or any thing you gain
Not healthy to watch not healthy to play game of broken faces of hockey still love the game.

Because you like to do social and like to exhibition or wonderland to see crowd and join happy time with them.

Then social gather must get reviewed and get fix and /ban all fight in hockey or allow some kind of singer sing song not group teenager dance body for no reason of show up or what is the point to doing so bad culture

Posted by: new at April 25, 2009 4:04 PM

This is goes to torture left from old system of century need to get reviewed
In Iran so many changes need to done

1) First Shah tried to bring technology while lead his daughter in drugs Lila Pahlavi died or all drinking and gambling left in Iran wake up Muslim extremist to fight him out

2) Next was Revelation tried to keep some tradition add to Islam law and made it separated and

3) some group of communist and free Muslim lead to terrorist activities such as Mujaheen Khalgh and their activities was too extremist to kill that method

Now the situation is not say that was best
What can be doing now??

How Iran link with world with new method
Even some evidence seen in torture also those are Shah time kind of grow men who change their dress and wear sheikh dress to people thing they are Muslim look while they were not they only try to show pretend to torture with different dress now in Iran

Some even pretend they are Muslim in Iran or soldier of Iraqi in Iraq are also did not see them as normal action f them daily kill each other

And if you study
More question are in law and act need in class room teach to children in high school to prevent them to do crime when they grow up and so on and
People who are not smart in education are most likely break law and pass the red light in so many times repeated and made kids education and study need to get mandatory in certain level before they got hired in society or let 15 years kid drive before know the law of society to enter them premature is wrong too.

Change all thing exist in public and when walk out of your home what you do go use street car or drive car or talk in business or study or walk and talk with opposite sexxx or any other or watch game or go more entertainment need to review by law
Public law need to review and find best of it if you gather people in pubic all fun must not affect brain get excited or safety or and other think or bring young in gambling what do you expect after they lost they may do rub the people or other thing illegally or go and alcohol and if they drink more what they can do who is responsible for society relationship in total is public relationship and laws need to review for all happiness entertainment gathering in correct direction safety and develop brain increase and better body or better food or better friend and subject to talk not seat and gossip over other friend of burp from full stomach.

Omar Khadr need to go in serious of at least 10 year under doctor of psychology to check him closely if he back to Canada soon he need help from professional not public anymore

Posted by: new at April 25, 2009 4:05 PM

5 groups exist among Iranian that you need to be get aware

1)Iranian are so many different groups one group who left Iran in Shah time only for drink alcohol and adult and wear sexy dress, drugs or illegal actives or not wear hijab or scarf, theft or etc criminal actives and take hate of people of charlatan kind of person and gambling and fun in American ways while they may be smart too or some are very small group and still their children are made what their parents teach them and bring bad influence to other too. Some are racist Aryan race from past not like to listen to Arab Muslim rules in Iran.

Group 2)Some group left for security and political reason and against or kill or one of torture soldier of shah or etc and not Muslim or other minority in Iran or their brother or sister was killed by Iran government or if back to Iran may get executed, spy from both parties

Group 3)Some group left it only for safety of too much war and not wishes their son join army in Iran by force and not like to stay in recession and no money in Iran for better money making and safety and more are family group came in Canada or USA who may Muslim

Group 4) Some are extremist who may come recently to bring their children for study, sport or research and university purpose only and finically crises in Iran

Group 5) none of above and they come to Canada for other reasons
If you can lucky to find Muslim smart educated knowing all culture work hard and has manner this number is more than above 4 in Canada

Therefore you must know when some one explain Iran situation belong to what group are if you really want to know how to deal with Iranian government today you need to use group who are in group 3 and 4, 5 please do not get info about Iran and Iranian from group 1 and 2 because they are very pessimistic and talk very negative and not normal
It is good to h ave intelligent or CIA work for protect American but not by identify other political group and kill or torture them later or vice versa this is not table for identify each other and revenge it late this is discuss people is good intention is gone and only wining game is main issue in policy and recently people in world are smart to get it now.
You can not label on one country does torture while all do it now must change their public relationship any soldier not follow order and use illegal act must arrested and go to jail there is not reason to hired police to do illegal force and bit you up and put police assault to you because he is authority to do it and lie to court and court only listen to police not to accused who may get bitten by police first and so on.
Some times army may kill for hate and crime and label it victory therefore all need to hired big commander in chief in charge for hiring good soldier not sick soldier to keep country safe or good police to keep street safe people who are bad management need to get fired soon and replace with better who know society and educated or has degree or brain to understand quickly and made correct decision too nobody is prefect.

dmorris It isn't just the RCMP. It is all levels of government in all provinces. A Director I knew said the private sector was more diverse than the government. He seemed shocked by that. I said some cultures look at working for the civil service as shameful. He looked surprised until I said they would have to dig up bodies to meet quotas and that wouldn't make much difference to what they were doing now.

Let's walk down memory lane regarding the RCMP, in the days of yore and not before recruits were selected because of their keen desire to be a cop for a life time thus they dedicated themselves to the job for a lifetime. Fast foreward and look what the Loopy Liberal Left has decreed what makes a good Mountie: A French language profile, a BA, they make them take race sensitivity course, they make them take sexual harrassment courses, gender sensitivity courses, community relation courses, social justice courses, mental health courses. Thus the Liberals have turned what use to be a life long commitment to law enforcement with the RCMP into a Elite Utopian Band of Metrosexuals who have degrees in the Arts and have been indoctornated into the socialist retarded dogma. If he wants to blame someone for the sorry state of our justice system and the bahaviour of a few mounties might I suggest he look in a mirror because the left have gutted the RCMP and replaced police officers with "Diversity Agents" who have to practice race based policing.

Wow SDA controls Canada, who knew she had such power.

I say makeovers are in order. The CBC could do a whole season of RCMP makeovers. Hair highlights, new outfits, liposuction, shoes with heels, assless chaps, the possibilities are endless.

Off topic here but....hats off to a couple boys from my old stompin grounds in Hamilton for taking on Mantracker last night. They lost but still did us proud. Just cause you're poor and from a crappy neighborhood doesn't mean you don't have integrity and heart.

Margolis's own freedom from fear and luxury of opinion is provided by the insulation of inherited wealth from his father's entrepreneurship, notably the Jamieson vitamins business, which is not mentioned here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Margolis

However, his mother, and her work, accounts for much of his view of things.

Obviously Airic flys off from the Dzikanski screwup of 4 cops needing to be tuned in vs. tuned out(der State indoctrination, of sorts), ie deal with things as they are vs. as a PC police scribbler or boss, says they are. Everyone has seen the video.
Iran kills a journalist and tells the world to piss off, but in Canada der cops get to prolong the p-i-ss-o-ff.

Posted by: reg dunlop at April 25, 2009 9:45 PM

First of all, I came across the name "thwap" posting some moronic comments on another site a week or two ago (I don't think it was here). Maybe it was Dr. Mutt's Blawg or Big Cesspool Lib, on a day that I decided my stomach could handle either of those.

As I recall there was a fairly broad discussion here recently about the tragic tasering incident in Vancouver last year, and not a few of the frequently cops-are-tops congregation thought the RCMP went way over the line. So there is scarce evidence that a full-fledged "conservative" mentality that includes hatred of non-conformists condones the actions of the Mounties in this regard. Personally, I have not read enough about the incident to have formed a strong opinion either way.

Furthermore, given that the extreme left has a lot of influence in Canada, running the show at our phony "human rights" commissions for example, and that it itself hates productive people who know what they want out of life, and that it has always shown extreme and often violent hatred toward anyone it rightly or wrongly perceives as its enemies, it does not necessarily follow that the viewpoint that would defend the RCMP in this sort of situation is a "right-wing" or "conservative" one. Leftist police states are a dime a dozen; Cuba and North Korea are obvious examples, so is China (recent alleged economic freedoms notwithstanding), and there are many more, past and present (but hopefully not future), and the overall death toll numbers in the millions.

Mr. or Ms. Thwap presents a reasonably thoughtful analysis of the two incidents in question, one here and one in Iran (including much to distinguish them), enough that I regard his post as far from outrageous (and not "moronic", for that matter), barring his comments about SDA and similar blogs. It is probably not untrue that should the RCMP feel it could repeat the Vancouver incident on a regular basis, the country would be in serious trouble. I just hope that Thwap comes to realize that the persons he or she is most afraid of are, for the most part, not to be found around here, and probably are more likely denizens of the places he or she feels most comfortable.

Wikopedia's description of Margolis's politics...
Margolis identifies his politics as "Eisenhower Republican". Though his domestic political persuasion is moderately conservative (he is a staunch anti-communist and a supporter of capitalism)
--------------------------------------------------

Yes, Mao and Stalin were staunch conservatives as well.

Posted by: doowleb at April 26, 2009 9:12 AM

He's referring to Canada? We are surrounded on three sides by oceans and on one side by the US. So - who are the 'ruthless, vicious enemies"?

Give me a minute. I haven't had my coffee yet,

Posted by: Over by dere. at April 26, 2009 9:34 AM

I think Margolis was having a caffeine crash when he wrote that incongruent conceptually disoriented gibbering. That, and a large attack of Freudian projection.

Hmmm what ever could it be that makes a great self-appointed media moralist "hate" the conservative blogosphere so much. Is blogger hatred that all that's keeping the dead tree media "solvent"?

I think I know why he added the last paragraph - self renunciation in a rare moment of Freudian honesty.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.
~C. S. Lewis

Leftists never admit they're wrong.
They pretend to be progressive but it's all self-delusion. They'll follow the wrong road long after it's obviously wrong(AGW), and then when they can't keep up the pose any longer, drop it and pretend they never went down that particular path at all.

Dear "The Phantom"

You write:

"The thing which annoys me most about our little friend thwap is that he doesn't listen. At all. Ever."

Well, I don't remember the specifics, but fine. Whatever. I disagree, but I don't care.

"I've crossed swords with him a time or two, and he immediately defaults to ad hominem with some crude homosexual inuendo for flavoring."

That last bit about homophobic ad hominems is a complete lie.

As for the rest of my fans here, I don't see much more understanding than what some chose to post at my blog. A precious few managed to grasp that allowing those constables to get away with killing a man and then lying about what happened in their official reports is a dangerous step. The rest typed some snarky insult and slithered away.

I'll try to be clearer. Iran has a bad government with very little respect for human rights. One way it's able to stay in power is through fear, much of it based on the unaccountable power of its policing and prison institutions. If we Canadians allow the RCMP to get away with this recent atrocity we will be taking a step towards having police forces like Iran's, where human rights are meaningless and sadists and thugs can do what they please.

Finally, some of you got confused by my analogies. I'll clarify one example: Many Iraninas feel that their country is under siege from the West and some of them probably think that reformist critics are dupes or tools of their foreign enemies. Many of you mouth-breathing imbeciles believe that the West is genuinely at risk of enslavement at the hands of Islam and that domestic critics of anything to do with the "War on Terror" are "useful idiots" or outright traitors to Canada and Western Civilization.

So, you both exhibit the same paranoid tendencies.

Posted by: thwap at April 26, 2009 12:48 PM

I read many Margolis articles over the years and have seen him interviewed and on talk shows. He just loves to argue and disagree. He apparently knows more than anyone else on any topic.

I swear, if you said "Eric, I totally agree with your assessment of the X situation" he would argue that you shouldn't believe everything you hear and claim that you're too ill-informed to agree with him....

Posted by: Anna Mac at April 27, 2009 11:58 AM

I'd just like to point out, for posterity, that aside from the decent few people who at least noted the dangers of allowing Canadian state security forces to kill with impunity, the rest of you were only able to come up with completely meaningless insults and speculations about my living arrangements (re: parents'or eric margolis's basement) and other such twaddle.

In my experience, that's what I've come to expect from sites like this. One or two decent people with some foundational misconceptions that have thrown them wildly off-course, and then a 3-hour parade of idiots and vermin who can't even begin to think straight.

To the one or two people on this thread who actually demonstrated intelligence (I shan't identify you to spare you the embarrassment) thanks for the nice surprise.
