If the NEP and Green Shift didn't do it, if Martin's complete lack of leadership didn't do it, if the Tories big spending doesn't do it, what could?

President Obama will play the "nothing to see here folks" card on this one and if anyone gets hurt he will be at the podium denouncing the radical extremists here at home and ramping up Homeland security to counter domestic threats.

Yes, revolutions have happened in Canada. Of course, since they happened independently (Upper and lower Canada and the West) none of them were effective.
That in itself says all you need to know about the defects of confederation. We aren't a single country. We're a bunch of unrelated countries forced into an EU-type government.
As for media coverage, what is photogenic about a bunch of grumpy conservatives? There won't be great shots of all the black smoke from the fires that aren't lit. There will be no Pulitzer prize for that dead commie shot from the cops who don't need to fire into a crowd of rioters who don't riot. There will be no shot of the cop bleeding all over holding his head and being dragged off by another cop after the rock which wasn't thrown… That's leftard, anarchist "protesting" in action. Not conservatives. Conservatives are not photogenic.

The MSM venues that act as outlets for soft Marxist statism regard patriotic reaffirmations and constitutional fundamentalism as "evils" and rather than air them to deconstruct them, they fear them so much, and believe the ideals involved are so dangerous to cultural marxist indoctrinating, that they omit all mention of them....so Orwellian.
Now I know why CNN and other lefty ideologue media has left many true Americans with a loathing of manipulative political indoctrinating masquerading as "news" and they are tuning out its ideologue screeds and cancelling subscriptions to its yellow pulp mongers.

Posted by: Kathryn at April 15, 2009 10:37 AMThis isn't simply about taxes but about the whole nature of the Obama government, which is to remove power from the people. And that's what the first Tea Party was about - the denial of power to the people.
Obama's administration is removing the power to govern from the people. By his manipulation of Congress using fear (it's a crisis!)so that they pass tax bills without reading them; by his moving into private corporations and taking them into government control.
And by his manipulation of the public using Fear and Anger (eg, AIG lynch mobs); by his manipulation of the public with pre-scripted 'Town Hall' Meetings where all questions are preset.
And, by his manipulation of the public's capacity to see reality (it wasn't a bow, he was shaking hands). How about the DHS 'study' released just the day before the Tea parties, stating openly that anyone who questions or dissents about items such as immigration, abortion or anything, is a 'right wing extremist' and might be prone to violence? That means - no questions are allowed in the Obama World. Only adulation.
Victor Davis Hanson has an excellent articl in NRO, titled President of the World, which outlines just how dangerous the Obama regime is to the US and to the world.

Teabagging is what you and your friends do to each other for fun.
This bi-partisan protest is about stopping the government from destroying the future.
There is zero reason why the left should be any happier about these enormous deficits than the right. To the left, huge deficits are CONSTRAINTS ON FUTURE GOVERNMENT. If you spend 1/2 your budget on interest payments, you aren't spending it on government.
You don't have to be a small-government type to see the math doesn't work. If you believe in huge government, to make it sustainable you have to FUND IT which means tax first, then spend. If you don't, what you have is temporary government followed by mass economic destruction from imploding balance sheets.
What leftards such as yourself are too stupid to understand is that math is math regardless of the application. The rules of addition and subtraction are not invalidated by government decree. The same math which causes individuals to go bankrupt and corporations to fail does the VERY SAME to governments who spend more than they tax.
Such simple mathematical concepts are up and above the economic damage caused by high tax rates and the moral hazards incumbent of the ability to vote yourself someone else's income which you didn't earn.

The Marxists moved into the USA once they realized that they were getting nowhere with no money ... and for the past forty years have felt no resistance at all from the offices of the MSM to the union meetings in American's public school systems, to the pork laden departments of governments at all levels.

Turned on TV in bedroom. Switched to CNN (Fox is extra on cable, CRTC does not want sheeple Canucks to watch it).
Kirin and John AM show.
John presents portion of Obama's teleprompter recital (The same he's been regurgitating for weeks): "I see a glimmer of hope in the economy but tough times are still ahead"
Kirin laughing: "Many will take the streets for a tea party protest on today's April 15 tax day"
Immediately followed by:
John looking serious: " A new government release states that right wing extremism might be on the rise in the country"
(UPDATE 10:30 AM: JUST FOUND OUT ON CNN BY A WAR VETERAN THAT THIS REPORT WAS NOT TO HAVE BEEN FOR PUBLIC DISCLOSURE BUT ONLY FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT EYES. IT WAS LEAKED YESTERDAY OR MONDAY...JUST IN TIME FOR THE NATIONAL TEA PARTIES. UMMMM!
John AGAIN presents portion of Obama's teleprompter recital (The same he's been regurgitating for weeks): "I see a glimmer of hope in the economy but tough times are still ahead"
Later during the show:(After important stuff like the pirate "crisis" and Bo the WH dog):
"Many states and municipalities are now seriously considering applying new taxes to cover their budgets to stay afloat. Our money expert is here today to explain"
Money expert: "It's simple, in order to make ends meet they need to bring in more revenue or CUT BUDGETS AND SERVICES"
Immediately followed by: (NO NOT THE TEA PARTY TAX REVOLT WHICH WOULD OF BEEN AN INTELLIGENT AND RELEVANT FOLLOW UP)
A 3 minute segment of the Obama's new dog BO.
John AGAIN presents portion of Obama's teleprompter recital (The same he's been regurgitating for weeks): "I see a glimmer of hope in the economy but tough times are still ahead"
Basically they are spinning the tax revolt this way:
People are complaining about taxes when Obama is set to reduce taxes...
They completely skip the "big government out of control, printing cash and turning the population to Government subserviance and dependance" part of the equation that Glenn Beck and others are attmpting to give meaning to the movement. It's not the taxes, it's the mammoth government out of control that's the issue. It is also non partisan. Bush was no better but Obama is even worse.
As Matt Taibi put it today:
It requires serious mental gymnastics to describe the Obama adminstration — particularly the Obama administration of recent weeks, which has given away billions to Wall Street and bent over backwards to avoid nationalization and pursue a policy that preserves the private for-profit status of the bailed-out banks — as a militaristic dictatorship of anti-wealth, anti-private property forces. You have to somehow explain the Geithner/Paulson decisions to hand over trillions of taxpayer dollars to the rich bankers as the formal policy expression of progressive rage against the rich. Not easy.
Thoughts?
Posted by: Smitty at April 15, 2009 10:57 AMApparently the MSM believes that hundreds of thousands of normal people protesting in hundreds of gatherings across several thousand miles is an entirely rigged event, and thus not newsworthy!
Apparently there is somehow, some huge corporate influence over all this that makes it not newsworthy!
Apparently, these people voices do not count because (pick any):
1) the election is over, move on
2) we won you lost, move on
3) they are corporate pawns
4) it's not any concern of theirs what "O" does
5) etc, etc, etc
Is it any wonder why then, the MSM simply doesn't get why people are pizzed off??
Or any wonder why the MSM is going down in flames??
The giants of the MSM know that they are pandering delusions and la merd. Knowing this, is it any surprise that they don't cover the story that, on so many levels, is "tolling their own bell"?

-Rich bankers have given the politicians millions in campaign dollars. Unlike Canada, US politicians are legally purchased. See the fact they got to keep their bonuses and ill-gotten wealth. That doesn't mean they get to keep the power and control of the banks they used to run.
-even democrats realize that an economy must be present to be taxed.
-socialists are crafty and realize the limitations of democracy so they use back-door methods of control. They own most of the banks' shares but allow some of them to be held by the public. That gives the illusion that the banks are private but notice that the government is dictating the terms of operations on the banks and auto companies.
Here's the problem with leftard math:
http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20090415/CCPA_report_090415/20090415?hub=Canada
it's a leftard public union story published by the leftards at CTV news.
Here's a couple of their bullet points designed to illustrate why we're getting such a great deal from government:
-On average, Canadians reap $17,000 worth of benefits from tax-funded public services each year, including pensions, child-care benefits, roads and police services.
-Canadians who make between $80,000 and $90,000 per year still enjoy tax-funded benefits that are worth about half their income.
If the services are worth 17k, they aren't worth 1/2 of 80k then are they?
Funny thing about averages though. The people who make 80k don't qualify for the 17k worth of benefits cause only those who don't pay taxes get the handouts. And 17k still isn't 1/2 of 80k. Fricken morons.
There are lies, damn lies, and leftard math. I won't denigrate the study of statistics by stating what these halfwits are doing is stats...
This is not about national media, including Fox, all of which are beyond hope. this is about taking back the House of Representatives, each of which election is local in nature. The national media cannot change people's perceptions of people's own neighbors. I live in the tax plantation of Vermont and I can tell you that my neighbors are talking more openly about the damage Obama plans for the economy.

Leftist math: I still find myself chuckling from time to time over a letter to the editor at the G&M from a guy who thought that high marginal tax rates were a very good thing 'cos it makes a guy work much much harder in order to realize the same take-home pay. He didn't include the math, but here's my own illustrative math: a guy needs an extra $50; with a 50% MTR he has to earn $100 more; a guy needs an extra $50, with a 80% MTR he's gotta earn an extra $250. WOW, just look at the increased output across the economy with a very high marginal tax rate.
It's hard to believe, but there are actually people out there who have this static single-dimension view of human behaviour.

Re: Mike
It blows my mind how so many on the left are unable to remove their thoughts from petty partisanship, and see what the issue is.

Posted by: K Stricker at April 15, 2009 12:22 PM"Only now it's obvious even to right-wingnut mental defectives."
Yes philboy as illustrated by 8 years of the left focusing all its energy trying to extend the US constitution to foreign terrorists. The economy and the deficit was so important to the left they said… nothing.
If it was so obvious that Bush was spending too much money, how come it was only the fiscal conservatives who broke with the GOP that was mentioning it?
As for Harper, he was planning to balance the budget through cuts until the opposition tried to steal power. They forced his hand. But the opposition just whined that there wasn't enough spending anyway. With a majority, there would be no unnecessary "stimulus."
These protests are about both the left and the right coming together to protest the idiocy of bad government. Just as some of the most intelligent critics of Bush were on the right, many of those angry about Obama's leadership are from the few intelligent members of the left. How they can stand you around them, I don't know.
The GOP are also targets in case you missed the point of a bi-partisan protest. The GOP members of both houses are useless as well (although none in the same league of idiocy as the likes of Pelosi.) But, keep up your screeching bush derangement syndrome for another 4 years (the total extent of Jimmy Carter's second term by proxy and Obama's only term.)

Posted by: Shaken at April 15, 2009 12:51 PMAgain, this isn't about taxes. It's about government. How the government operates. Does it tax without representation, i.e., without the will of the people?
For a President to insist that a pork-filled Mandate that increases the deficit by trillions, by an amount higher than the total previous deficit - and insist that this Motion be passed without the Representatives READING the Motion - that's 'taxation without representation'.
it's also unjust and dictatorial government. That's what people are protesting. They are protesting the fact that the Obama administration has removed the Right of the People to govern themselves. Instead, Obama and his Gang - Pelosi, Reid, Soros etc...are ramming through policies and programs without this Will of the People.
And notice how Obama deals with dissent; how the White House released a DHS report that defines anyone who questions or dissents against in particular, 'leftist programs' (immigration, abortion, welfare)..as a 'right wing extremist' prone to violence. Wow. In the land with the First Amendment of freedom of speech?
And notice how the WH is trying to shut down the Tea parties around it.
As for the MSM who are not reporting it - that's irrelevant. They don't realize that the days of the MSM are the source of information are over, and their refusal to represent the reality of what is going on in the US (tea parties) means that they are irrelevant. The news of these tea parties developed, spread and will continue to spread - on the internet.

"Napolitano stands by 'extremism' report
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said she was briefed before the release of a controversial intelligence assessment and that she stands by the report sent to law enforcement that lists veterans as a terrorist risk to the U.S. and defines "rightwing extremism" as including groups opposed to abortion and immigration.
The outcry resulted in a demand from the head of the American Legion to meet with Ms. Napolitano, a request the DHS chief said she would honor next week when she returns to Washington from her current tour of the U.S.-Mexican border.
"The document on right-wing extremism sent last week by this department´s Office of Intelligence and Analysis is one in an ongoing series of assessments to provide situational awareness to state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies on the phenomenon and trends of violent radicalization in the United States," Ms. Napolitano said in a statement.
"I was briefed on the general topic, which is one that struck a nerve as someone personally involved in the Timothy McVeigh prosecution," Ms. Napolitano said.
"Let me be very clear: we monitor the risks of violent extremism taking root here in the United States. We don´t have the luxury of focusing our efforts on one group; we must protect the country from terrorism whether foreign or homegrown, and regardless of the ideology that motivates its violence," Ms. Napolitano said.
"We are on the lookout for criminal and terrorist activity but we do not — nor will we ever — monitor ideology or political beliefs. We take seriously our responsibility to protect the civil rights and liberties of the American people, including subjecting our activities to rigorous oversight from numerous internal and external sources," Ms. Napolitano said."

Amazing how comments from the leftists are rarely arguments based on facts and logic; they are more often insults, personal attacks and, in person, acts of violence. We can see this in the few comments made by the left in this thread.
Again, these Tea Parties are not about high taxes; they are about the Obama government - and its elitist mode of rule, which denies power to the people.
That pork-filled stimulus Bill wasn't read by Congress because Obama didn't give them time to read it; he insisted that it was a crisis and must be passed; he insisted that they 'trust' him as the newly elected President.
That's quite an arrogant demand of Congress - that they renege on their required role as elected Representatives to be accountable and make judgments based on facts and knowledge..and instead, vote based on Trust that the President's Way is the Right Way. That demand by Obama was a direct attack on democracy.
Obama's other actions, with regard to GM, with regard to AIG, are equally authoritarian acts that remove power from the people.
His just-announced review from the DHS informs us that anyone, and in particular, people on the 'right', who disagree with leftist agendas such as immigration, abortion, and social welfare, are defined as 'right wing extremists' prone to violence. That's quite an attack.
So Obama is setting up his Enemies of the State within America. Who are they? Anyone who disagrees with him. Anyone. Whether it be Limbaught, Hannity...or...the local Catholic priest who opposes abortion..or the sheriff who thinks that illegal immigrants are, well, illegal. Any one who questions Obama, is The Enemy. Freedom of Speech, guaranteed in the Constitution is now a hostile act.
State's Rights? Also guaranteed in the Constitution, and Obama is going after this, weakening States, making them dependent on the 'goodwill' and smothering rule of Washington.
Remember, Obama is a pathological narcissist; his focus is on controlling how people interact with him. You can see that in his insistence that Congress 'trust' him; i.e., vote as he wishes without reading or debate of the Motion. If he can't control them, they will, somehow, cease to exist for him.
The MSM? It has, by its alignment with Obama, lost its individual power to think and analyze. This power has passed on..to the Internet. The MSM will become more irrelevant and reduced to babble..as the Information Flow moves to the Internet.
Obama needs demons - and he'll set up race and class divisions in the country.

Are they enmass going to refuse to file aned pay taxes this year?
Posted by: Oz at April 15, 2009 4:42 PMHere in MN, there are two groups gathering today at the state capitol:
- At noon a group will be having a Tax Appreciation Day rally.
- At 5:00pm there will be a Tea Party.
Notice that the Tax Appreciation rally is during the day, because none of them work for a living. I can see why they appreciate other people paying taxes.
Posted by: gregg at April 15, 2009 4:45 PMIf it weren't MSNBC, I'd call it unbelievable.
While many hundreds of thousands of very ordinary Americans are joining together to say "stop the spending", MSNBC is featuring a discussion on the also unbelievable security report on 'right wing extremism'.
The film being shown while the talking heads blather, is of U.S. soldiers firing over walls at I assume, the right wing extremists. We see grenades being thrown and helicopters circling overhead.
The footage was obviously from Iraq, but without any Iraqi background scenes to provide context.
Now, you'd have to be pretty thick to not understand where the footage was taken, but the point is, MSNBC wants to plant the seed that 'right wing extremists' - currently at the Tea Parties, I assume - will soon posse up and become the SAME KIND of threat to the 'good people' (read Democrats) of the U.S.
The elitist contempt of the MSN - in this case, MSNBC - is undisguised.
no guff - those are interesting points you bring up. I think you are right. The MSM, following mindlessly with Obama, is trying to stifle dissent against The Great One's policies. And, in so doing, creating a clear division among the American people - suggesting that anyone who criticizes Obama is an individual of violence.
I've heard also, on CNN, that this DHS report was a Motion by Obama, but started up in the Bush era - which is puzzling. This seems an attempt to back off from the report by the usual Obama strategy of Blaming It on Bush. But that's ridiculous. IF it were somehow aligned with Bush, then, all Obama had to do, was read it, and refuse to allow its publication.
But instead, it was released a week early, the day before the Tea Parties, a clear act by the Obama administration to define any dissent against Obama as occurring only among 'right wing extremists'..who will get violent.
Remember, Obama dealt with dissent about his lack of experience, lack of policies, vague rhetoric during the campaign, in the same manner. Anyone who questioned him, was defined as 'racist', as a bigot, as 'partisan'..and he hoped, he said, that people would overcome their 'fear of big black men' (held by his grandmother)..and their political partisanship. This talk was a specific tactic to stifle questions.
The DHS is a similar strategy.
Something to note - the Obama administration is not even three months old, and we are already seeing large scale protests against his agenda. I think that's quite a new situation in American politics!
How is he, a controlling narcissist, unused to and unable to accept questions and dissent, going to deal with this?
He's trying to discredit anyone who questions and dissents - with his slavish MSM, with that DHS.
What else will he do? He'll try to turn Americans against each other rather than against him.
And? What other tactics?

You are so right, this is a bit of an e-conversation I had yesterday where I said: "it is clear to me that the left has been and is playing politics with the lives of our soldiers, Afghan women and any other number of people. You can see this because the argument changes to suit the specific discussion. This is wrong! You don’t hear ANY right-wingers criticizing BO for increasing strength in Afghanistan, they support him for doing the right thing to WIN, and if he cut taxes I’m sure the right would adopt him. This isn’t the case with the left, it’s glove-off, as if they were fighting an ENEMY. It doesn’t matter that under Bush’s watch the Americans liberated 50MILLION people around the world, or that MILLIONS of Africans are alive today because of American assistance. Me and those of like minds are the REAL ENEMIES."
I haven't been able to get that DHS document off my mind since I read it. If we are the "enemy" then we are at war; and, most of us don't even know it. I called it a "Cold Civil War" but it appears that it's getting HOT. It appears we can only hope that there IS a war, not another holocaust.
Last night Anderson Cooper (on the failing CNN) did a big piece on these horrendous "right wing" groups. One might have thought they were watching The Onion Movie.

The President is 'unaware of the Tea Parties'? Heh. That's what I said. If a pathological narcissist, as is Obama, can't control you or some action, then his reaction will be to act as if that action or you, don't exist.
It's quite an effective strategy. You or the act simply don't exist. He doesn't react. That's his way of controlling you - that refusal to acknowledge that you have 'life, liberty and the right to the pursuit of happiness'. That's Obama.
The MSM are trying to ignore the Tea Parties or, are trying to link them with the Republican Party. But, CNN, for example, is being careful. It DID align them with the Republicans, but, they were careful to acknowledge that no Republican, individual or party, organized them.
However, both parties are going to have to watch this new grassroots movement - and they are going to have to acknowledge that The People exist and that government doesn't exist only within Washington. But, it will take more of a fight for this to sink in - and will Obama ever acknowledge it? No.

Posted by: Texas Canuck at April 15, 2009 7:38 PMThe Canadian Press, of course, gets it completely wrong and tries to derail the message:
"WASHINGTON - Thousands of Americans took to the streets in so-called teabag protests across the United States on Wednesday, angry about massive economic stimulus spending and what they perceive as rising taxes under President Barack Obama.
But on a day simply known as Tax Day in the United States, a bigger concern for millions more was the complicated and inefficient American taxation system that makes Canada's look like a well-oiled machine by comparison."
How wrong can you get it? They're not "teabag" protests, they're tea party protests as in "Boston Tea Party" -- unbelievable. The protests have absolutely nothing to do with the complexity of the tax forms as the Canadian Press story would have one believe. They're about the amount and the use of the tax dollars.
When I'm old and senile I'm going to become a reporter. No one will notice the complete loss of my grip on reality.

Posted by: WL Mackenzie Redux at April 15, 2009 8:00 PMBoston Tea party was about no taxation without representation, when the American people had to pay taxes on tea without having representation in the British Parliament.
Today's Tea Party, which co-incidentally falls on April 15, the day Americans are compelled to pay taxes, was deliberately chosen for that very reason.
It's about the taxes, stupid.
More to the point, the American people have woken up to the fact that Obama's plans cannot be carried out without a massive confiscation of wealth from the working class.
When I say working class, that includes millionaires and billionaires.
The beneficiaries of this confiscation are the parasite class, the bureaucracy and the so-called victims of economic inequality.
Anger against Washington started during the Dubya regime, so this is not about right vs left. It is, as Glenn Beck constantly points out, the struggle between what is right and what is wrong.
Taxpayers were already furious with the Bush regime for loading them up with taxes.
Now, they're totally ballistic once they realize just how big a bill the Obama move to make America a marxist utopia will cost them and future generations.
No amount of name-calling from fans of Big Government will convince me otherwise.
Maintain your dignity, people. This is not an ideological war. It's a war against an even bigger encroachment into American's lives by the self-appointed elite.

Just wish Canadians had the balls our southern cousins do.

JMO
set you free - it's not about taxes in themselves but about the role of government in both obtaining taxes and in spending taxes. It's about the massive self-empowerment of the Washington government and its forgetting that the power to govern rests in The People. Not in Washington's backrooms and manipulative tactics.
The MSM has lost its credibility because it has aligned itself with the political agents, in particular, the Democrats/Liberals/left and moved outside of its original role of presenting factual information.
For the MSM to claim that these Tea Parties were confined to 'Republicans' or 'the right' is false. These demonstrations weren't about the left or the right but about the expansion of Washington government and its increasing violation of the Rights of the People to be the Government.
Equally, Obama and his team were trying to ignore the demonstrations by saying that they were because the tax forms were 'too complicated'. That has to be one of the dumbest statements I've heard...no wait..the 'he didn't bow, he was just bending down to shake with two hands'..was ever worse.
What Washington, what the MSM are ignoring, is the power of the Internet. And the Internet doesn't belong to any government. It belongs to the People.
Again, to have such demonstrations only two months into the Great One's regime is quite something.
Now, watch what he's doing internationally. He's already essentially laid the groundwork for both N. Korea and Iran to obtain nuclear weapons - and they will. He's done that by switching the interaction from a rejection of such actions to a suggestion of 'dialogue'. What is there to talk about? Both will allow Obama - who can't do much else other than talk -...to talk. And in the background, they'll be busily developing their weapons.
Wonder what he'll do in Mexico - where he has to deal with drug wars and illegal immigrants. Hmm. It will be something to enable both. Just watch.

Posted by: The Phantom at April 15, 2009 10:27 PMRedux at 8pm Yes I noticed that the crowd was very largely white, what surprised me was not that white people came out for the tea party protest, but that black people did not. Those who stayed home chose to do so apparantly because they approve of the Obama tax plan. I can hardly believe that in one fell swoop the black/white divide has reappeared, and CNN will be the first to fan the flames!
Posted by: NettieOnTheNet at April 15, 2009 10:31 PMoz- again, for the umpteenth time, these Tea Parties are not about 'paying taxes'.
They are about the government's USE of taxes and the government's trillion dollar deficits, and the government's pork projects, the government's bailing out, the government's intrusion into social engineering; the massive expansion of government programs and the denigration of private enterprise.
They are about taxing everything - to get more money - to give to more pork projects. They are about taxing the middle class to give that money to people who pay no taxes - that is, they are about taking hard earned money to give to people who don't and won't work.
They are about the fact that Congress and Obama are not accountable to the people.
William lyon mackenzie and glasnost - I saw a few black faces in the crowds but it was primarily white. And not old men - it was heavily young people, people with families, men and women. And yes, Obama is a polarizer. He pits people against people. Race, class, political views. He divides the people into polarities.
Remember, his election campaign used racism as one strategy. He reminded 'white people' that his 'white grandmother' was afraid of 'big black men'. That's a not-subtle tactic of telling white people that if they reject him, it's because they are biased.
And he frequently uses accusations of bias as a strategy of control.
Again, it is quite stunning to see the thousands of people who have turned out for these Tea Parties - and the signs - which are against big government, against trillion dollar deficits, bail outs, against passing bills without reading them...and..Power to the People.
Obama, the White House, CNN, etc, they'll try to downplay this remarkable event. But not even Obama's fictional world, the world that he lives in where he alone writes his own reality - can hide from this for long.
And, the US Congress - ahh - those two houses can't hide. The Senate, the Representatives - they are up for election. And they can't hide from the people.
Quite remarkable - he's only two months into his Regime - and to see demonstrations like that - made up of all parties, Democrats, Republicans, Independents...people who say they voted for Obama - and who are now, very angry.
Watch how he deals with it. He'll personally trivialize it, saying he knows people are upset on 'tax day', and he'll blame Bush and he'll try to divert the focus....
It won't work. This is an important day.
Posted by: ET at April 15, 2009 10:44 PMI was at the Tea Party in Tampa - estimates 4 to 5,000 in attendance. More impressive was the constant unrelenting honking of horns by sympathetic passing motorists.
At the Tampa rally no pols were on the scene. A small businessman gave the most compelling speech about how small businesses are being destroyed with this incoming socialist agenda. A young attorney spoke about the lost relevance of the Constitution, a couple conservative radio talk hosts livened up things and then time was allotted for just anyone to have their say.
Americans are at their best when they are presented with a problem and realize they are on their own to fix it.
A permit has been granted for September 12th for the big rally in DC.
Et,
I know the "Tea Parties" aren't about paying taxes.
They are supposed to be about FREEDOM, and paying taxes is a way for citizens to reign in the government because the government and most normal citizens intersect only at the point of TAXATION*.

Excerpt from a detailed description in the Wall Street Journal:
"The protests began with bloggers in Seattle, Wash., who organized a demonstration on Feb. 16. As word of this spread, rallies in Denver and Mesa, Ariz., were quickly organized for the next day. Then came CNBC talker Rick Santelli's Feb. 19 "rant heard round the world" in which he called for a "Chicago tea party" on July Fourth. The tea-party moniker stuck, but angry taxpayers weren't willing to wait until July. Soon, tea-party protests were appearing in one city after another, drawing at first hundreds, and then thousands, to marches in cities from Orlando to Kansas City to Cincinnati."
All this occured well before Fox News decided to give it the coverage that they knew no other media outlet would provide. I suppose the claim might be that the Wall Street Journal is lying about this?

Posted by: Indiana Homez at April 16, 2009 10:31 AMlookout and phantom - the fact that the MSM Press is ignoring these Tea Parties, and that Obama is ignoring them, won't make them go away.
Obama, as a pathological narcissist, lives in a fictional world where he controls how people interact with him. If he can't control them, he'll either try to destroy them, or, if he can't, he removes them from 'his text'. They no longer exist in his world.
But these two tactics won't work with a grassroots movement like this. Obama had that DHS Report issued the day before the Tea Parties, to try to label them. As 'right wing extremists prone to violence'. The backlash against the Report led to a slight retreat by the WH, which then, as usual, 'blamed Bush' for commissioning the Report. Rubbish. Obama received it, he could have seen it as a vicious attack on democracy and trashed it. Instead, he had it released.
The MSM tried to label these parties as partisan, as Republican, as created by FOX news. Won't work, because the people who created them, were all parties, and FOX publicized but did not develop them.
Next? The MSM and Obama will try to ignore them. Obama has already tried to redefine their anger, as, not against his massive takeover of government, his pork spending, his trillions in deficit..but as complaints because the Tax Forms are too complicated. Heh. That caused massive demonstrations all over the USA? Try again.
Next? He'll ignore them. But members of Congress can't. They are up for election in a year. And I'll bet they are very concerned.
There hasn't been a demonstration like this, against the presidential policies, this early in a new President's era. Ever.
And if you read the hand printed signs - they are clear. Against the increase of federal power. Signs saying - If you can read this then why didn't you read the Bill? Signs against Obama. Signs against trillion dollar deficits. Signs promoting private business and telling the govt to get out of private business..and so on.
It was a remarkable day, and the next one is planned for September 12th.

And that's the most troubling aspect of the whole thing down the road...Violent racial clashes because most minorities who voted for Obama sees their victory as something you cannot touch.
They crowned their king and do not see him yet as just another politician to scrutanize on his every decision and action.
The country's direction and future is not on the radar for them. To critisize their King is to be intolerant and racist towards minorities, specifically blacks in this case.
With this reality and the fact that MSM and the very vocal culture in general is predominently Liberal (Conservatism being stereotyped and propaganded as old, intolerent and depasse for decades now):
The new 'era' of American politics of having the first black president should of been a Republican (Right wing) one.
In the context we have today, this would have been much more balanced for unnecesary misunderstanding and less potential for bloody clashes.

ET, I agree. This is a much bigger deal than the NRA-led effort to get Algore beat, or the 1994 Republican election. That was small potatoes compared to this tea party thing.
I'm still kind of surprised at the way they've let the covers come off, though. Obama is doing openly in three months what Clinton snuck around for 2 years with and lost the House over. I think the difference is that where Clinton is merely crooked, Obama seems to be actively nuts. Il Duche kind of nuts.

Posted by: sooz at April 16, 2009 11:21 AMsooz - yes, that's exactly what the MSM, and people like Obama, don't understand. The power of controlling information is no longer in their hands.
Again, Obama as a pathological narcissist, must feel that he can control how others interact with him. If he feels he can't control them, he'll try to destroy or denigrate them. This will include anything from weakening their power (the CEOs, the rich people, the banks, the private corporations, the middle class)..to utterly ignoring that they exist.
But, can Obama really control everyone this way? With his basic triad of tactics: misinformation, emotional manipulation of fear and hope, and accusations of bias if you disagree with him - he's managed to become POTUS.
However, he has rapidly moved into a TOTUS, as it is becoming clear that he, himself, is intellectually empty, and that his primary goal is that narcissistic control.
The MSM don't realize that their control over information, and thus over people, has ended with the rise of the Internet. This has put power back into the control of - The People.
And Congress, the representatives of the People, who have moved away from this duty, and who have instead become agents of authoritarian one-way power, are now realizing that Control is moving away from them..and back to The People.
ET:
Now do you believe it's about taxes that politicians of both parties have saddled the people with?
This anger started in the latter stages of the Bush campaign and resulted in a backlash against all Republicans because, as the claim went, they were in favour of de-regulating the financial industry that led to the sub-prime crisis.
Now the silent majority who put in their protest vote have seen their vote went to an even bigger spender, whose inner circle of supporters had an ideological agenda to turn the US into a Trudeau-style socialist state.
What the MSM fails to appreciate, as shown by the clip, is that there's anger toward all politicians.
There will be a definite backlash at the polls next fall in the mid-term elections.
Since the hopey-changey crowd has clearly demonstrated they are not in favour of smaller government, the energy can be captured by politicians who promise to spend the least amount of taxpayers' money.
If it's good enough for Russia, where Putin announced tax cuts, it's sure good enough for the USA.
Power to the people! Right on!
Posted by: set you free at April 16, 2009 11:49 AMOh, and ET:
What part of Taxed Enough Already (TEA) did you not get earlier?
Posted by: set you free at April 16, 2009 11:56 AMset you free - no, it's not about 'taxes' per se; it's about government.
About a government that, without the will of the people, imposes big government, an intrusive socialist government that moves itself as a governing power into the operations of private business, into the activities of private citizens.
It's about a style of government that overrides and overlooks the people - and the people's representatives.
I refer you to Obama's attack on this power of the people when he, using the threat of 'it's a crisis', made Congress, i.e., the People's Representatives, pass a pork-filled money bill without giving them the time to read and debate that bill.
That was an authoritarian act, an act that said that 'government runs by Trust in Your Leader'..rather than 'government runs by debate, questions, analysis and a democratic informed vote of the People and their Representatives'.
Then, Obama raised the deficit, inserted a budget that set up the people into trillions in debt. Again, without a full debate, without the Will of the People. Again, via threats of crisis.
So, no, it is NOT about taxes. The American people do not reject paying taxes. But they reject any government that imposes taxes without their will. That's the whole meaning of the Tea Parties - 'no taxation without representation'.
Congress was no longer being allowed to represent the people, and in itself, many members of Congress were ignoring their duty to the people.
So, it's not about taxation. It's about government - which is supposed to be of the people, by the people, for the people. Instead, the Obama government is an enormous Thing In Itself, which is moving in to take this right away from the people.
No taxation without representation. It's that 'representation' that is the key word.

Obama's ambitious vision will put the US in debt.
Add up all the deficits from George Washington to George Bush and it will be less than the burden the Obama administration is asking the US taxpayer to carry?
He really has bit off more than he could chew.
It's bad enough that he has to clean up the mess left behind from the 1999 repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act which passed 452-65 in the US Congress (90-8 in the Senate and 362-47 in the House of Representatives).
That led to the sub-prime mess.
As a recommended exercise, do some research and see what the composition of the Republican-controlled Congress was at that time under the Clinton Administration.
So, it's not bad enough that Obama has to deal with TARP, but it was his administration's actions that allowed the bonuses at AIG.
Then, he took over Government Motors.
Then, while the country is already reeling from the additional bailouts in the biggest corporate welfare program in US history, he adds on health care and a econmically-questionable green program to boot.
When the taxpayer understood each individual would be saddled with about $30,000 in debt (you see Zorp, the government doesn;t actually have any money, it just borrows from the taxpayer), that's when they went ballistic.
It started during the Bush regime and my guess would be that those angry taxpayers who voted for Obama's change, thought it would mean LESS taxation.
Stupid them.

Posted by: Zorpheous at April 16, 2009 7:43 PMChecking in after attending the Tea Party in DC, across the street from the White House.
Secret Service put the number at 3,000... and this was on an absolutely miserable day to be outside, 43 degrees and POURING RAIN!
Still, 3,000 people were there listening to speakers and providing their opinions through their signs and in spontaneous conversation among former strangers. Those in attendance were a cross-section of middle America; young, old, and middle-aged; blue-collar, white collar, and professionals; a decidedly congenial bunch.
There were families (like, two-parent families!) with small children braving the elements so they could be part of the event. There were even a few moms with kids, dedicated to this cause, while their husband/dad was presumably toiling away at his job in order to pay all those with their hands in his pockets.
The speakers were on-topic, and the signs were on-topic as well as inventive. Some individuals were prepared for the rain, and those who were not, really toughed it out.
I spoke to immigrants from Russia and Bulgaria who were very adamant about not wanting to buy what Obama and the congress are selling. I spoke with a Canadian couple who traveled from Toronto just to stand in solidarity with us - they had considered the Chicago Tea Party, but eventually decided on the DC version.
These folks were a collection of people that I would want as my neighbors - not necessarily because of their political views, but because of the quality and integrity of their character, their charming demeanor, and... get this... their glowing ability to persevere and find joy and productive conversation among new friends just discovered on a miserable, rainy afternoon. This quality of joy would never be found in a group from the left. I have attended some of their rallies to observe, and found that anger, hatred, and nihilism generally dominate those gatherings.
My signs received several positive reviews:
"It's The Spending, Stupid!"
and
"Their Plan: Equality Thru Poverty"
Speakers included Laura Ingraham and reportedly Alan Keyes. However, I could not get through the crowd to be close enough to actually see and listen.
The only mainstream media I saw was Greta VanSusteren as she interviewed one of the organizers of the event. There was no sign of CNN, ABC, blah, blah, blah. Although, there were several two-person teams that appeared to be freelance reporters.
At one point, the Secret Service evacuated the park due to a "suspicious package" left along the fence outlining the White House lawn.
Note that the Tea Party event had previously been issued a permit to assemble on Pennsylvania Avenue, but according to event organizers, this morning the permit was modified to restrict the event to Lafayette Park and not include Pennsylvania Ave. However, when I showed up, there was a mock chain-gang, in orange jumpsuits, trudging along the White House fence - a protest against the prison at Guantanamo Bay. Go figure.
(Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House has been permanently closed to vehicular traffic since 9/11 and is now basically a some-times "free-speech" area)
Zorphy is having a cow there, eh? What do you think Zorphy, I hover over my computer waiting with baited breath for you to reply? I had to go buy more chill pills.
What is Obama's plan? He wants to make the USA into what Europe is, or maybe Sweden. A surveillance society with state ownership of all important industries. A place where you can't fart without a permit, basically.
I'm sure he'd very much like to have our Human Rights Commissions too, and our situation where Canadians have no property rights that can't be revoked by a simple act of Parliament. More convenient for the central planning.
You know, so he can make sure everything is fair. Take from the rich, give to the poor, that kind of thing. Or in his own words to Joe the Plumber, "We're going to spread the wealth around."
Oh, and free health care. Definitely free health care.
These are a few of his favorite things.
Now, I know that sounds like a really great idea to you, but that's because you're a Lefty Zorph. People like you are the reason we have that here in Canada.
Me, I'm not so happy with it. Because that's a list of pretty much everything that sucks about Canada, so far as I'm concerned. Also because to get there he'll probably have to fight a war with all the cranky Americans who don't want to live in Sweden and apply for a new fart permit every three months.
M'kay? Am I allowed to think that, commissar? Or should I report for re-education?

) Homeland Security memo on the "rightwing" extremist "problem". Check.
Seems to me they are correct to be worried about these extremist, cause even you seem to think a bloody civil war is coming to the USA and it sure isn't going to leftards firing the guns,... more likely it will be those ) "rightwing" extremist who are buying up all those guns you spoke of...
Re-Education??? Only if if you think it will help you Phantom, maybe highschool night class might be place to start.
"Nut heck Phantom, if you hate Canada so much, why don't leave?"
I'm here to fix it, Zorpheous. Running away is what you do.
"so do you support open armed rebellion in the USA against the Obama Administration?"
If you're even asking that question it means you never read what I write. Which is absolutely typical of leftists in general.
The answer is no. Because I have some idea what that would look like, and I don't want to see it.
"cause even you seem to think a bloody civil war is coming to the USA and it sure isn't going to leftards firing the guns,"
Well Zorpheous, every time a Conservative group has a demonstration or a protest, nothing happens. No fights, no tear gas, no water cannons blasting rioters into the gutter. Tea parties on the 15th had zero casualties, zero property damage for example.
I think its much more likely crowds of lefty "peace movement" and ACORN "social justice" types will use force, probably around the election. Being as how that's what they normally do, its no great leap of paranoia to suppose they will do it again.
So does everybody else. Hence the ammo shortage.
Are you naturally this dumb, or do you work at it?
Posted by: The Phantom at April 17, 2009 10:29 AMWell, we now know how much of a:
-"push over", -"kick some sand in his face" -"give it to Zorph, he eats anything" type of person you are.
It seems you are basically surrendering your life and country to the Federal government no matter what action or direction they take.
This has become too urgent to wait for another election. Mid term or otherwise and I'm not saying overthrowing the gov. at this time. Just make them listen and pay attention to the concerns. Looking at changing the tax code sometime down the road as Obama said to try and calm the movement wed is a token gesture at best and won't cut it. If Pelosi's windmills or nationalizing health are top priorities then they can't even be considered until the tax system across the board is reviewed and democratically agreed on, n'est-ce pas?
Although it is at this point extremely premature to use violence and force to make the Government listen (Again, Rep or Dem, Lib or Con is irrelevant anymore), it is an option that should remain as last resort if a peaceful and more so growing movement is ignored by the Gov. or worse, sneered at by 75% of all media (Left) which we witnessed yesterday and wednesday.
The 2nd amendment and the right to bare arms are exactly why they exist in the first place: In case government gets out of control: by the people, for the people.
The more the Government and left wing media ignores and denigrates it, the more people are going to wake up and rise.
I bet the next round of tea parties, we'll see more minorities attending.
Again, because the left media ignored this coming prior to Apr 15 in an attempt to placade the movement by giving it no "publicity" even if negative, more people will start asking themselves questions and start their own investigation.
Yesterday, Fox and all the AM radio got huge new ratings because people want to find out why traffic was diverted or slow on their way home wednesday. "What's going on? How come my CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, NYT did'nt tell me about this?"
Yesterday Fox recorded it highest ratings ever:
The viewrship of ALL the other networks (All news and otherwise)combined with 50,000 to spare!
As of this AM, the TEA organisers are still tabulating the amount of people as each event is sending their numbers in: It has well pass the 750,000 mark and counting. Not bad for the second attempt; Feb being the first 'prototype' if you wish.
Again, all grass roots and organised using the internet. Just like Obama did with the internet for his election PLUS he had most all forms of media which we did not have for this except Fox and some AM radio.
"Revolution in their minds, the people start to march..."

Can't think of any Democratic protests that turned out like that ... please correct me if I'm wrong. Or start the hand waving, you know, the usual.

Phantom, you are a delusional, paranoid who can't even keep his own delusions straight. Just pick one Phantom and stick to it
a) Obama, the New Hitler striving for a 1933 Dictatorship,... or,...
B) Obama, the Swiss Chocolate Modern Day Socialist
What, are you still commenting on this? Fair enough.
Hitler didn't start with the holocaust and conquering Europe. He started with a gun ban, nationalizing large industries and the Hitler Youth program.
Bary is nationalizing the Big Three, the banks and AIG, he's all over starting with the gun ban, the fairness doctrine and he's got the Acorn "Obama Youth" program going.
His stated objectives so far are to turn the USA into Sweden economically and legally. To do so he will have to tear up the US Constitution.
Maybe he will stop when he's got to Sweden. Maybe OUR government won't exercise their legal power to expropriate your car, Zorpheous. Hitler could have stopped at the Rhineland too, and Europe would have let him do his "ethnic cleansing" schtick unmolested.
I prefer to learn from history rather than be run over by it. If a guy acts like Hitler, don't contribute to his campaign.
See Zorphy, your problem is that you think Sweden today is different than 1933 Germany. Truth is, you take away the killing people part and the legal and moral structure are about the same. Groups have rights, individuals don't. That can go south fast, and did in Germany. And Russia, and China, and Korea, and Cuba, and South America and Africa, and even Sweden ain't in that great of shape these days. Its a crappy way to do business.
You think its ok that we don't have any right to own property. How would it be if the Ontario government decided to give your house to the Wagga Wagga Indian tribe? Which was invented by The Phantom two years ago for the purpose of ripping you off. They can, you know. It happened in Caledonia, ten minutes from my place. If it happened once already Zorpheous, can it happen again?
In the USA, according to the constitution there are things the government cannot do. They like it that way. Americans are unlikely to cooperate with Bary trying to end the Constitution so he can hope 'n change that. That's all I'm saying, other than the parallels with 1933 are creepy as hell.
I'll be quite happy to be wrong, frankly. I'm afraid that won't be the case, but if it is, wahoo. 'Cause the alternative will suck.
Oh,and you're a rude piece of sh1t. All you've done here is fling poo, I'm still of the opinion you've got nothing.
