Only six days to go. If you can't celebrate at home, join us at Timmy's!

nice site.
one big advertisement,i see they are selling organic cotton t-shirts at wwf. is there any other kind of cotton.
You are sooooo bad Kate.
Posted by: Jim R at March 22, 2009 12:02 PMAt least they haven’t attracted the evil Hummer crowd.
Oop’s their off camera smoking their tires in the parking lot, and using baby seals as wheel chocks.
Good day to fire up the diesel lawnmower. No grass to cut, but spring is coming. Eventually.

Mar 20... How low can we go T.O....now there's a loaded question for ya.
Mar 19... "Ideas in the dark" for Earth Hour... I suppose that pretty much sums it up.
Mar 12... Earth Hour recipies from Jamie Kennedy and Bob Blummer... It appears there are some people who can not go for 60 minutes without eating.
Mar 10 ...celebrate Earth Hour as a family... never mind all the activities listed ( Family Feud: Nothing like pitting mom against dad and brother against sister in some light-hearted competition to get inspired! Healthy competition, whether it's tracking and comparing the carbon foot print of each household member or creating a family challenge get your household charged, can make saving energy a sport where everyone can win!...sheeesh), I think most families will just spend the hour arguing about why the X-Box has to turned off.
Or you can win a trip to see the "endangered" polar bears... Maybe somebody at the World Wrestling Federation might want to consider the carbon footprint of this useless sightseeing tour...
ah, yuppers, couple of years ago they did a survey of those who bought new cars, survey included 28,500 people, the environment came in 23'd out of 25. Could it be they didn't include any lefties in the survey?????
Posted by: GYM at March 22, 2009 1:14 PMKate will you please shut UP!!!!! seems to me the winters were getting milder 10 or so years ago. Which made me and my cows very happy here on the ranch. But then you got your li'l blog. Killed one of Mother Earth's little creatures and took a picture of it. Then you started mocking the Arch angel Gore and the Saints Suzuki's and Hansen. Since then it has gotten colder and more miserble every year. I think Mother Earth is PMSing bad and is going to kill us all with abit of irony by freezing us to death. So if not for me....for my moo-cows. Please stop making Mother Earth mad. Thank you for your time :)
Posted by: mad maxxx at March 22, 2009 1:23 PMI see that Casino Nova Scotia is one of the signed up businesses. Does this mean that all the one armed bandits will be without power and no lights will be flashing on roulette wheels etc.
Posted by: tranio at March 22, 2009 1:33 PMThankyou for the laugh!! Not only will have all the lights on,now we will go leave the engine idling for an hour. (okay probably won't leave the engine idling to long - gas is a little pricey here)
I do plan to leave one big ass carbon footprint.
My apartment will light the block, maybe the whole neighborhood!
I sure wish my stove was the self-cleaning type.

Yes gas is pricy....that's what the lefties want...
Their goal is to shut the lights out and getting sheeple to go along with "earth hour" is a mibnor victory.
Burning a tire maybe????
"i see they are selling organic cotton t-shirts at wwf."
Organic cotton is really bad for the environment.
Working during the day - 2 Timmy stops, but I will plug in the Christmas lights.
Posted by: barb at March 22, 2009 2:40 PMI don't usually go to Tim's....but for IIYEH
(International Idle Your Engine Hour)
I'm going to fire up the old Studebaker and head on down for a cup of joe and a few Tim bits. And on that night, I'm going home and as Tom Bodett of Motel 6 says, "we'll leave the lights on for you".
Winter storm and terrible road conditions in Edmonton today. Got the fireplace going, house is a balmy 73 - 75 degrees. Sent the kid outside to shovel the lastest white offerings of an Angrey Mother Nature. Do you think she's annoyed because the eco greenies escaped her Arctic punishment? Plan on an escape (by plane naturally) to a warmer, friendlier venue. Off to Vegas in April. Casino lights are always good for a carbon footprint and on the plus+ plus+ side, there's no sun to burn my sensitive white skin that hasn't seem Vitamin D for 6 months. Why commune with nature when you can relax to the soothing birdlke sounds of bells and whisles in a Las Vegas cave (oxygen enhanced don't you know).
Posted by: fernstalbert at March 22, 2009 3:09 PMToronto Celebrates Earth Hour! ....
In an article from the Torstar just choc full-o-quotes:
"It was lots of fun, very cozy," says Ligeti, executive director of the Clean Air Partnership. "We turned off the lights, burned candles, had the gas fireplace on, had wine and cheese – and talked about how you can have a good life, especially in Toronto, without using a lot of energy."
Lets all do our bit to heat up Canada. The winters been way to long.
Posted by: Revnant Dream at March 22, 2009 4:42 PM"We turned off the lights, burned candles, had the gas fireplace on..."
Even though I would very much enjoy turning everything off just so I can burn some wood and create a cloud of smog (and smug) above my house, I think I'll continue to really hurt the environment by heating my house using the "dirty" hydro-power.
Posted by: Taves at March 22, 2009 5:14 PMAfter flying in a C02 spewing jet from YYZ to MCO ..I plan on celebrating earth hour by swilling several chilled beers (cooled by eeelectricity - coal fired no doubt) at the hotel bar in Orlando FLA. I think I might be inclined to ask the bartender to turn up the music.
junior - "my carbon footprint is bigger than yours"
Posted by: junior at March 22, 2009 5:22 PM"We turned off the lights, burned candles, had the gas fireplace on,"
Hydro-generated lights off, petroleum-based candles on and natural-gas heat up - hey, she's doing the Hour of Power and doesn't even realize it. Welcome to the dark side, Ligeti.
Okay, I can afford to go to Tim's and idle my time away. btw, that is normal SOP for 9 months of the year up in Yellowknife.
Posted by: Texas Canuck at March 22, 2009 6:41 PMI have 6 tires to burn and when I get back to work. I'm going to the truck on high idle while I sleep, load at customers, etc.
Well, except the border. CBSA and DHS tend to get annoyed with the truck running when you're at the line.
Posted by: oatmealeatincanuck at March 22, 2009 7:31 PMI live in downtown Toronto- anyone up for setting up some giant flood lights and having a big dance party at Yonge-Dundas Square? We can party like we're liberals! Woo hoooooo!!!
Posted by: CP at March 22, 2009 7:42 PMI will be celebrating Earth Hour by placing a couple of electric space heaters inside an old fridge, plugging them all in, and seeing which one wins.
Might take more than an hour, though? I'd better let it 'er buck for the rest of the week, just to be on the safe side.
Posted by: rg at March 22, 2009 7:54 PMSame as this time last year, my self cleaning oven will be fired up. It's older and not very effecient but does a great job and I feel I need to do my bit to mark the momentous occasion and increase my carbon footprint, hell, might even through a few logs on the fire.
Posted by: kelly at March 22, 2009 8:14 PMPotential for something to backfire:

One of the churches over in town is holding a special Earth Hour service that night. Never mind the bit about how driving there uses more energy than staying home. I asked if they were hoping for carbon offsets in the collection plate, but they turned out not to have thought things through to that point quite yet.
Posted by: Anthony at March 22, 2009 9:33 PMUnnecessarily idling your vehicle at the beckoning of this blog is equally as sheepish as participating in earth hour.
Posted by: Kyle I at March 22, 2009 10:47 PMhttp://fairpensionsforall.blogspot.com/
You think we are in an "economic crisis" now, just wait.
When the numbers are extrapolated out, there is no way on earth, barring some form of economic miracle, that the municipalities of Ontario will be able to meet their pension obligations.
Throw in chimpy mcidiot's pledge to honor bankrupt company pensions, and the outrageous promises to provincial employees and teachers, and Ontario is well on the path to insolvency.(Quebec isn't doing so well either).
As more and more of Ontario's economy dives underground(cigs, IT, construction, service)we have mcliar fiddling his "windmill farms" song while Ontario burns.
Thank god my family made the right moves to avoid the tax nightmare that is coming soon to this "have not" province.
Well done chimpy mcjerkoff, you have saddled the next three generations of this province with a massive debt and massive liabilities.
ONTARIO IS DOOMED WITHOUT A HARD RIGHT GOV'T, AND DOOMED UNLESS THESE PENSIONS AND BENEFITS ARE SLASHED TO PIECES!
Posted by: kingstonlad at March 22, 2009 10:52 PMHahahahaha - if I had an engine to idle on that day,I would too! Thanks for that Kate!
Posted by: not a genius at March 22, 2009 10:59 PMWe plan on cleaning the oven, run the dishwasher, idling the car - remote starters are wonderful - and after the hour is up finally shutting off our Christmas lights.
Posted by: LEDA at March 23, 2009 12:20 AMIt is every Canadian's patriotic duty to contribute to Global Warming.
Upon graduation, every successful student should be given one of those gadgets that allow your to start your car without going outside.
Cattle should be fed beans.
Every citizen, if they give it a little thought, has something to offer.
Posted by: peter o'keefe at March 23, 2009 7:55 AMWell, idling isn't good for my mo-mo's. How about an hour on I-29 North teasing the triple digits whenever traffic and on ramps allow?
Posted by: Anna Mac at March 23, 2009 12:54 PMI can put my Prius in B and do that.
That's not my problem however. How do we get rid of all these f'n deer? I am now realizing I am in the middle of a population explosion of the damn things and they love to walk out in front of me and play hip check with my car. I need to mount a machine gun on it ... or get whoever poached (or has status) that one in the middle of the section next to my acreage subdivision to fill his freezer (dog found skin and rack in the trees).
After going to 'Head Smashed In' and learning the cold periods like the one we are entering actually are biologically more productive on the Northern Praries only makes my problem worse.
As far as the idling goes, clean coal pumping massive amounts of lovely CO2 into the atmosphere is better. Damn Plants almost shut themselves down they are so good at removing it so we need to help them ... idling is OK as long as its just to keep you from freezing at the ends.
