As it happens, this is a really good idea which can revitalize our economy.

For example you could pay car manufacturers to produce lots of cheap cars. Then you can tax car usage and invest heavily in public transport to stop people using cars they've just bought and save the environment.

Or you can raise taxes to hire lots of public workers so that they can pay more taxes.

I love win-win scenarios.

For years I used to horrify lefties when they talked about affirmative action or any of their other "equality" issues by saying things like "when do we go after the Jews?" or "the Jews are next right"? They would get incredibly angry and defensive. When I did this I never really expected to see the out and out anti antisemitism we have now. Who really would have thought we would have people marching in our streets with signs saying "kill the Jews" or signs with swastikas parading downtown Toronto. That in itself is amazing enough but when you consider out tax dollars are paying for it through the various government employees unions and various government grants it is truly mind boggling. Who would have thought that the Canadian Governments own TV/Radio stations would be on the side of the antisemites.

To put it another way. CBC and their intellectually inclined employees and listeners had a choice between Nazism and Civil Rights and chose Nazism.

BTW I have to disagree with Steyn: Criticism of Israel is not criticism of Jewry in general. There are plenty of Jews who are among Israel's harshest critics.
