When P meets K.

Steve enlightens us about the shiny white person episode.

"Well, now we’ve got a different story, right? Now, it’s no longer a story about the appropriateness of our choosing Kathy to appear on the program. Now it’s a story about a well known Liberal Party operative threatening us (with what? We didn’t know) unless we did what he said."

This is a fair example of K's reaction:

H/t to BCF in the Reader Tips.

Cheers,
lance

Y'know, it's funny:

I think I'm the only person in the Canadian blogosphere who is tired of this story! :-)

Can I just re-iterate, though:

I fully support Warren Kinsella's right to say anything he wants about me or Chinese restaurants or pretty much anything else on his blog.

Lance ,
The link goes straight to the comments . Can you link the post ?

Link fixed Bill. Thanks.

It has dragged on a bit Kate but sometimes you have to keep flogging the dead horse to get noticed. Kinsella would love to just move on and I'm sure his supporters have very short memories so you have to keep these things alive well past their due dates to ensure they get out into the light of day.

Personally I'd like to see Kinsella wear the bbq cat comment for the rest of his career.

Posted by: gord at February 22, 2009 11:07 AM

Kinsella has always been what he is.
This current tempest has allowed more of the public to see it.
I find TVO to be CBC-lite. Some shows are worthy of attention, but the overall product generally precludes my tuning in.

Just have to wonder:
How many other 'journos' has the K tried to push around. Was Palkin the first?
Or the first to stand up to him?
Just wondering.
Way to go Palkin!!!

One more thing, though. This really is an outstanding comment on the whole thing:

Some additional comments are necessary for Paikin's post

:-)

Posted by: Erik Larsen at February 22, 2009 11:10 AM

Kathy, the story isn't about you. You were just the catalyst.

It's about an Ontario Liberal party hack trying to use his gov't contacts to restrict a public broadcaster from presenting whatever story they deem necessary.

It's about the volunteer trying to establish bonafides to the party he once threw under the bus.

It's about Mr. Kinsella trying to retool his war-room skills by organizing liblogs against your appearance. An attempted organization that didn't just fail, but failed spectacularly in public.

No, the story isn't about you . . . it's about Warren.

Cheers,
lance

So, when's Count Iggy going to fire this doofus?

Posted by: batb at February 22, 2009 11:30 AM

kathy... the story isn't about special k's right to free speech... it's about his ham-handed attempt
to use his ties to the ontario liberal government to silence others right to same...

"Now, it turns out there's another reason to respect Paikin: He stands up to windbag
bullies who attempt to censor his show — even windbag bullies who work for Michael
Ignatieff and try to pull strings with higher-up in the Ontario government."

Kinsella persists in his petulant p*ssing and moaning. Shaidle steadfastly supports his right to do so.

Speaks volumes as to who is the bigger person. Doesn't it?

Posted by: biffjr. at February 22, 2009 11:40 AM

Kathy - in case you're still reading - I enjoy the way that you speak your mind. All the best to you.

I hope that Paikin gets a lot of support for having you on his show. I hate thought police. I used to shake my head at the fear the Russians felt in late 40s and 50s.

Welcome to now.

If Kinsella gets any better at dissembling, he'd be known as Bin s'Allah, and, in future, always referred to as such! Every time.

There's a good round-up on my site of bloggers eviscerating the Lying Jackal.

I disagree with Kathy sometimes and sometimes it seems over the top but compared to the MSM that doesn't hit the add mark let alone overfull in differing viewpoints or facts I learn things.
WK doesn't want you to learn things. WK wants people to do as he wants. Wk tries to intimidate. That is his tool. I worked for a tool like WK and found the best way to deal with him was to smile at him, watch him fluster then laugh in his face when he got mad and realized how impotent he really was. They can only control you if you let them.

Posted by: Speedy at February 22, 2009 12:25 PM

Actually Lance the story is largely about Shaidle and Kinsella's attempt to have her censored. But yes primarily the focus of the story should be about Kinsella orchestrating his latest self-inflicted public humilaiation.

As for his authority within the Liberal Party, provincial or federal? I think you give him too much credit. The Jackal is an unpaid volunteer of Iggy, who I doubt will trust him with anything serious. Iggy I suspect has used the Jackal as a means to enter certain of the LPC's back rooms, nothing more.

Posted by: Blazingcatfur at February 22, 2009 12:26 PM

The story is all about censorship, Liberal style.
They've been doing it and getting their way with media for decades. Someone standing up to them and making it public, as Paiken has, is a hell of a shock to them.

It's starting to look like Katsella is losing friends and unable to influence as he's grown accustomed to. Things are not looking too good for the smartass.

Let's not encourage Iggy to get rid of him, he's the best friend the Conservatives could have in the Liberal war room. He's lost his edge and doing stupid stuff.

Posted by: Liz J at February 22, 2009 12:40 PM

Heh, every time that whining wanker opens his mouth/computer I am thoroughly rewarded with blatant stupidity that's so entertaining.

Glad you nailed him Kathy, his nazi style of muzzling free speech needs more exposure.
Good on TVO as well, didn't think they'd have the backbone to stand strong, nice to see that they did.

Posted by: ldd at February 22, 2009 12:46 PM

Kinsella keeps on proving his geezer punk band should be called "Shit For Brains".

Posted by: Bocanut at February 22, 2009 1:10 PM

PS: you suggestions on how I can monetize my roll as 'catalyst' in this minor national pseudo-semi-scandal are appreciated.

If high class NY hookers can make $2-million on mp3 downloads of their mediocre music, surely I can weasel a few grand outta this!

Posted by: Kathy Shaidle at February 22, 2009 1:34 PM

I used to know Steve Pakin before he was in TV. He's always been a very nice guy. Happy, too. He never struck me as the type to back down from a threat.

Way to go Stevie. You are doing the country a service here. Carry on!

Posted by: The Phantom at February 22, 2009 1:40 PM

Kathy, how about T-shirts, with your URL on the back:

"I support free speech, even yours"

"No, I will not apologize"

"The other inconvenient truth"

etc

However, T-shirts are out of fashion right now, never mind!

Posted by: Erik Larsen at February 22, 2009 1:45 PM

"I respect free speech! But this is NOT what free speech is about!" - a commenter on Paikin's blog.

The same commenter went on to refer to Kathy Shaidle as a 'racist' no less than seven times in his few short paragraphs.

Liberals. They just don't get irony.

in the lieberal's mind (what there is of it) conservative and racist are interchangable

Posted by: GYM at February 22, 2009 3:59 PM

Gym, I hear ya'.

In the 'progressive' lieberal mind, putting Christopher Pauchay in front of a sentencing circle is compassionate and enlightened.

Deciding that living with just his own 'guilt' is punishement aplenty, is just and 'restorative'.

Bringing up the stark reality of the loss of two innocent lives who trusted and relied upon their father and pointing out that a 'two-tier' justice system for natives is unworkable and unfair is simply.... well, racist.

Shame on me for even thinking this way.

Posted by: No Guff at February 22, 2009 4:08 PM

On rereading Bins'Allah's threats to Paikin, it struck me that what he was actually attempting to project was his usefulness to Iggy ... as in, "Hey, Iggy, you know, we're not that unified a party these days - we liberals - and you know, you could sorta really use a good cheka, and, well ... I'm your man. See, see?"

Oops, another 200,000 votes lost.

Posted by: b_C at February 22, 2009 4:47 PM

I visit WK's site regularly primarily to keep tabs on a political operative from the opposite side, but also to comment and try to hold him to account for some of what he considers spin which is often outright lies or fabrication. I am getting the impression that he is descending further into more and more arch stances on a number of things. Shailde's appearance on TVO has prompted a very over the top reaction from him.

Curiously he wants to put forth the still punk rebel persona while at the same time demanding the strictist conformity (to his views) from others. It's almost fascistic.

Posted by: Gord Tulk at February 22, 2009 5:53 PM

The issue of Kinsella’s comment was never about “Chinese people eat cat meat”

Hell they eat a hell of allot worse than cat meat by western standards in some parts of China.

It was about his blatant attempt to racially stereotype them as a sneaky race of people, who would try and profit from serving unsuspecting Canadians a lower valued food for what they paid for.

This coming from an individual who “sneakily” attempts to make a lucrative career by routing out nonexistent nazi racist who enjoy hiding in Canadian public washrooms.

The story is about hypocrisy and how the Canadian Liberal Party employs scare mongering hypocrites to lead its strategies to control our future.

"It's almost fascistic."

Almost?
