I should start a pool for the day that Hannity overtakes The Factor...
Posted by Kate at January 30, 2009 12:12 PMThe sky is the limit for Hannity since he dropped the dead weight. That dude was a maroon.
The only problem with Hannity(IMO) is he is too much the stereotype of a conservative. His outward appearance is a turn-off right off the bat. Conservatives MUST find a way to attract young people to the cause, and honkey-tonk'n(sp?) ain't going to do it. To put this into perspective, O'Reilly is way "cooler" than Hannity, and that is saying allot.
Posted by: Indiana Homez at January 30, 2009 12:58 PMViewers would be much higher in numbers if the TV guide advertised Fox - Factor, Hannity, Greta, etc. Our TV Guide in Regina paper sure don't. Also most people in Canada wouldn't get those channels. Too bad that they are not available in the regular packages. People have been brainwashed by CBC, CNN, NBC, etc. for far too long. They have to be deprogramed to think differently.
Great shows on FOX that the vast majority in Canada don't have access to or not on their basic cable package like CNN.
As a side bet put me down for a 10 spot on Glen Beck overtaking Hannity first. I get a kick out of Glen's passion.
Posted by: Mike_RoA at January 30, 2009 1:01 PMThis is because Fox has genuinely gone after the slobbered over one. At first I was mad when thinking about how all of the late night shows just ignore stuff Obama does, like trying to enter the Oval Office through a window (guess that looting the Federal Treasury was not enough), but then I thought that they don't hold their audience with a loaded gun, they hold them by entertaining them. If they want to concede a whole area of entertainment that people have enjoyed since people have lived in bands (even cavemen probably made headman jokes to each other) to right leaning outlets GREAT! Obama is the perfect target of ridicule and they, being professionals, know it. What they don't know is that they can't prevent it from happening just by not doing it.
Posted by: Tim in VT at January 30, 2009 1:03 PMAren't Chicago Negroes genetically predisposed to entering buildings through a window?
Re Hannity ... He is didactic and boring. Billy O is much more entertaining and a much smarter guy. Plus he has Miller on every Wednesday.
Posted by: John at January 30, 2009 1:19 PMO'Reilly can be funny but he is not cool. Many believe there are personal standards, such as they now stand, that should be maintained. Hannity presents himself as a mature man and a professional. Wish we had more of that in government.
Posted by: iowavette at January 30, 2009 1:32 PMGlenn Beck is going to overtake Hannity. I watched him on CNN and am happy to see him over at Fox.
I don't think Hannity will overtake O'Reilly, but Beck will give him a run for his money!
Posted by: Aizlynne at January 30, 2009 1:43 PMI used to subscribe to Shaw for cable, but they didn't include Fox News in their news package. You have to pay extra to get it on a separate service. So I switched to Telus-TV which offers Fox News in it's regular news package.
When I lived in Thailand, the cable service I had used to have CNN and BBC World. At some point, probably because the subscribers became disgusted with both of them, they were both dropped and replaced by Fox News. That's where I got hooked on O'Reilly. At that time the CRTC had banned Fox News in Canada. When they finally gave in and allowed them, some of the cable services were pretty grudging about it and made it difficult to obtain. On the day the CRTC relented, there were several very nasty and insulting e-mails to O'Reilly from people in Canada who objected to his being available, finally, to the Canadian people.
I agree with John about Miller, but for me Megyn Kelly is the highlight of the show :-)
with the big following for conservative shows how the hell did the commie obama get all the white votes? people say guilt. i say bullshit. they are white commies.
Posted by: old white guy at January 30, 2009 1:59 PMMegyn Kelly reminds me of the Borg Seven of Nine (aka Jeri Ryan) ... as close to perfection as a woman can get.
Posted by: John at January 30, 2009 2:03 PMIs there nothing that Obama can't do?
Communist North Korea has said it is scrapping all military and political agreements signed with the South
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7859671.stm
I switched the package that contained CNN to the one that contained FOX ( on Star choice ) as soon as CRTC decided for us that we were mature enough to watch grown up TV.
No extra cost was involved.
I was sick and tired of leftist CNN because they reminded me so much of CBC, which of course we are forced to pay for, just like we are forced to pay for lilling fetuses in our "free health care".
(But rationed I might add.)
O'Reilly, Hannity and now Beck are great.
I like Laura Ingraham as well, what a pity Canada does not have an equivalent National TV broadcaster!
That should be "Killing fetuses in our Free Health Care"
J.
Hannity is a Conservative, and as such is very hard on anyone with any Liebral views.
O'Reilly claims not to be a Conservative, and as such has a much broader view when talking with his guests.
Between the two I preferr O'Reilly. I have read his books and I see him as a very decent person. Funny as well!!
Sure am glad I have Star Choice so we can watch Fox, which by the way is on most of the time.
Of all the ratings listed above, I especially like the fact that there is NO mention of Hardball with Chris Matthews...That alone makes me feel a "thrill going up my leg."
Posted by: ModerateVoice at January 30, 2009 2:31 PMBeck is not on repeat (at least on my cable - 2pm pacific) but Hannity / O'R / and Greta. Once Beck gets established his ratings are sure to go up. Fox is leaving "fair and balanced" and edging to "right time all time" especially in prime time.
Posted by: WCT at January 30, 2009 2:39 PMWith Rogers Cable, basic cable just has the Canadian news. You then pay extra to get more, with CNN. To get Fox, however, you have to pay yet another amount. It's a scam.
I prefer Beck and Hannity. Both are great. Also Greta is very good.
However, I've noticed that CNN seems to be losing their love affair with Obama; they are seriously alarmed over the 'pork package' he is insisting on pushing through Congress. And alarmed about his Guantanamo agenda.
Bill O'Reilly promoted, by mentioning, globalpost.com a couple of days ago. (I didn't catch the context.) I felt obliged to write them. Yap, yap, yap. In part . . .
Sandro Contenta, the globalpost.com writer at this site on the Canadian political scene, has had many complaints over his anti-Israeli-stance columns in the far left Toronto Star, and the Tar Sands (we call them Oil Sands and so should you) story and the Prime Minister Harper story when "fisked" are, well, deceitful to say the least.
Forgive me if I appear too severe or critical, but the American people know very little of their northern neighbour--yes, we spell words differently sometimes. This ignorance will shine brightly, as it always has for as long as I've been alive, when President Obama hits town on February 19th. I know I will be embarrassed, for you and for me. I've got a word for it that you might pass along to Bill O'Reilly--ostentatiousness. If you chaps get tingling up one leg, up here it will be up one side and down the other.
Now, back to Bill O'Reilly and globalpost.com. He's has announced to the world a web site that misinforms them . . . . .
Since I bought Fox News for my subscription package over 2 years ago, I find that, CPAC & Duffy (when still working) were all I watch.
Proud to say that I have only tuned in to CBC to watch hockey (with Don Cherry), have never once looked at any of their crap, like that mosque POS, nor Mercer, and certainly not the propaganda they purport to be "news."
CTV blows, too.
Posted by: Alienated at January 30, 2009 3:02 PMits easy ,
Obama gets 52% of the vote and the MSM especially CNN (and locally CBCpravda) behave like he an 85% approval. 48% of the people were po'd to begin with, and now the almighty one is strutting around like he believes the MSM.
Posted by: cal2 at January 30, 2009 3:04 PM
O'Reilly and Hannity should marry each other in San Fransico.
A few years ago, we embarked on a Caribbean cruise.
So many guests complained that Fox news was not offered that the Captain had to intervene.
It seems that CNN was the only option because of their world service outlet, whereas Fox was not available because of some FCC technical reasons.
The point being, the mainly American guests on board
overwhelmingly wanted Fox instead of CNN.
BTW- We enjoy Fox through Starchoice satellite service.
Posted by: Atric at January 30, 2009 3:23 PMNothing wrong with Hannity although I must confess that I haven't been watching complete shows lately on Fox due to an overload of Obama and Bloggo. Sean Hannity's only fault is that he comes across as being the right's version of an over the top leftoid and most people of conservative persuasion are not inclined to be that vocal about it. You can't blame him though, after being opposite that mental midget Colms, he has learned to talk over the bull instead of politely carrying on a discussion like most folks.
With the exception of too many commercials(like most talk radio) his radio show is worth a listen to if you are south of the 49th.
Beck stands a good chance of being a front liner with Fox.

Posted by: cal2 at January 30, 2009 3:42 PMET,
You seem to be the voice of reason here.
I'll take it one step further...Conservatives are a paranoid lot; they take CNN's criticism of Bush as being pro-Democrat and/or anti-Republican.
CNN is actually the most neutral MSM outlet going. They are actually anti-stupidity. This will become more apparent in the very near future as the outlandishly large magnifying glass Obama is under reveals his short comings.

Posted by: David Goulet at January 30, 2009 4:15 PMThe other networks should take a hint from the numbers.
It's better to be fair and balanced, or, in other words, "right-wing", like FOX, than to just, as if programmed to do so, spew standard, heard-already-a-million-times, "progressive" talking points all the time.
People want fairness and balance, which is why they prefer FOX News.
Too bad the unfair, unbalanced Leftist Big Media still hasn't gotten the message.
Posted by: The Canadian Sentinel at January 30, 2009 4:23 PMI don't think that there is anything unique to blacks about Obama being as stupid as the doorknob he couldn't find, so making a joke about it should be cool. The word "negro" isn't.

Posted by: Texas Canuck at January 30, 2009 4:31 PMBack to the topic at hand, does anyone know of a provider that shows Beck at a normal time in the Western part of the world, it comes on at 3pm where I am, and doesnt repeat at all after that.
Either that, or where can I get a cheap TiVo type thing? I'm really missing watching Glenn Beck (even if I had to watch him on CNN before)
I feel your pain Irene. In Atlantic Canada, I'm in bed before anything good is on. CFL games on the coast are a killer for me.
Posted by: Texas Canuck at January 30, 2009 4:47 PMGlenn Beck comes on during the hour when I am commuting home. Kills me that I get home to watch the last minute. They have got to change that.

Yeah, I'm a Shaw person, and CNN is pretty dismal - I'm reduced to watching Lou Dobbs - that's it. He's OK, but just too cranky without any ideas of his own, except for his few idées fixes (sp?).
Their political pundits are pretty awful - Candy Crowley, Roland Martin, David Gergen, etc.
Was Crowley assigned to cover Obama in the primaries? A sort of a - "you go there and cover that guy, and we'll forget about you soon enough" gesture?
Posted by: Erik Larsen at January 30, 2009 5:41 PMI have Star Choice and just signed up for Fox News; extra cost was $4.90 per month, and the package inclides documentary channel, BBC news, and 6 or so others.
and about the stupid joke, it was in bad taste: its best to ignore such stupidity. that's why I try to steer clear of the CBC. And Prof Thomas Sowell is on the Glenn Beck show! he's great, becasue he's not from Chicago!
I get Fox news on the internet - there are caches of past videos available if a person missed Hannity, O'Rielly, Glenn Beck, Greta etc. I also get live streaming of Fox news and CPAC. Not the TV, but better by a LONG shot than CTV or, parish the thought, CBC. I get most of my Canadian news right here at SDA and I listen to Rutherford, Adler and Rush Limbaugh (spelled correctly, I hope) on the internet. No need to be listening to Bolshevik propaganda except to pick holes in their reporting.

Posted by: Erik Larsen at January 30, 2009 7:46 PMThe problem with O'Reilly is that he isn't as smart as his bluster. He simply lets absolute fools off of the hook because he can't formulate a rebuttal fast enough. I wish FOX would replace him with Laura Ingrams. When she replaces him it's a delightedful show.
In the years ahead conservatives are going to need to get it together on the internet. We will never have equal time with the MSM.

Posted by: dave_roa at January 31, 2009 4:02 AM"CNN is actually the most neutral MSM outlet going"
Give me a break. They gave the Wiz kiddO a free pass almost as much as the MSNBC Obamabots. There are huge outstanding questions on just what kiddO owes others for winning the presidency. Questions involving character. Many of his closest supporters either have been, are currently residing in or belong in the crowbar hotel including the now ex-Governor of his state! I now wonder how kiddO actually got his senate seat...think CNN cares?
But the MSM, except for FOX, chose not to discuss the many close shady connections to the guy now holding the most powerful job on the planet...because he's their guy. Instead they spent their negative energies on the anti-abortion plain sense speaking Alaskan GOP Governor. There's was no hiding the MSM socialist agenda and no shame in their neverending shotgun style attacks on a more accomplished person with a far superior character.
That's not "levelling the playing field". That's media assassination. There's permanent blood stains on Lady MSM's hands.
FOX is the class of MSM. The ratings show it year after year. Each one of the hosts fill a specific role. Hannity comes off as the attack dog most nights but that's because he is. Almost anything dug up on Obama was done on his watch. Rev Wright wouldn't have been stripped of his "spiritual mentor" whitewash without Hannity's persistence. CNN wouldn't have touched the Wright racist church story except for the growing traction it was getting through FOX.
The sad thing is that there's people that judge the lack of journalism worthy content in lightweight news orgs like CNN as being "neutral". They can keep their Dan Rather brotherhood memberships and I'll keep my head out of the sand by getting my news from a source that actually cares about honest and relevant reporting.
Incidentally, to those that get home every weeknight after 5pm: Beck and PVR go together great.
