Three Years And 355 Days Planet Saving Days* Remaining

NYT;

The capital flew into a bit of a tizzy when, on his first full day in the White House, President Obama was photographed in the Oval Office without his suit jacket. There was, however, a logical explanation: Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat.

“He’s from Hawaii, O.K.?” said Mr. Obama’s senior adviser, David Axelrod, who occupies the small but strategically located office next door to his boss. “He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there.”

Axelrod! You dolt!

He's the former Senator from Illinois.

He has a house in Illinois.

It gets cold in Illinois.

It snows in Illinois.

Silly Conservatives,

The White House is heated with natural gas boilers; carbon is not a byproduct of natural gas combustion.

What do you think is going to happen in the summer months? Oh jeez I never thought of that. The air conditioning is going to be turned off; no coal burned, no carbon emissions.

Its no wonder conservatism is in the toilet; so hellbent to prove liberals wrong that you forget all about the fundamentals!

Landed here on Ig-day. Those "huge" signs of excitment for Zero around Waikiki ? Two O teeshits. That's it for his "Homeland".

And yes it ain't warm enough to grow Flowers in Illinois.

The Media is truly out of control. Desparate. Will go to any lengths to save their way of "life".

Have you been going to the school of Al (full of it) Gore?
Natural gas is the cleanest of all the fossil fuels. Composed primarily of methane, the main products of the combustion of natural gas are CARBON Dioxide and water vapor.

Posted by: Alan at January 29, 2009 1:47 PM

Not Stirred Enough should take high school chemistry. Here is the balanced equation for combustion of methane (natural gas)

CH4 + 2O2 yields CO2 + 2H20

Another global warming acolyte who knows little or no science whatsoever

Posted by: NRA Life Member at January 29, 2009 1:48 PM

"Stirred", are you THAT MUCH of a dolt? The two primary products of the combustion of natural gas are 1) water vapour, and 2) CARBON DIOXIDE. Yes, the SAME carbon dioxide that the AGW wingnuts are now proclaiming is a mortal danger to the planet, and which is naturally expired by every form of animal life on the planet.

Walters: Are there sacrifices that Americans as individuals can do?

Barack Obama: Yes. The first thing, I think, is for the American people to draw on that reservoir of confidence and stick-to-it-ness and perseverance that my grandparents had during much tougher times during the Great Depression. The second thing: Each of us have a role to play in not being wasteful when it comes to energy. For us to turn off the lights when we leave the house, to make sure that we’re unplugging the chargers that we use on our cell phones.

Walters: You talk about light bulbs and so forth. When you’re in the White House, are you going to green the White House? Are you going to turn off the light bulbs, tell the kids to turn the - you know?

Obama: Absolutely. One of the things I want to do is, is to – I’ve already met the chief usher there, a wonderful man, a former Admiral of the Coast Guard, and one of the things I want to do is to sit down with him and, let’s do an evaluation. How are we using energy in the White House? Part of what I want to do is to show the American people that it’s not that hard."

Posted by: Mugs at January 29, 2009 1:49 PM

Silly 'not stirred enough' doesn't know his basic chemistry. If he did, he would know that Methane when burnt produces some CO2, and that Natural Gas has CO2 in it...naturally!!

Posted by: robp at January 29, 2009 1:52 PM

Silly troll. Natural gas does indeed contribute to carbon emissions; to a lesser extent than coal perhaps, but contribute it does.

Every molecule of methane (chief constituent of natural gas) burned yields one molecule of CO2, and two of water vapor, a potent greenhouse gas in its own right.

Maybe you should pull some of that wool from between your ears, and knit Obama a sweater.

Hey Kate, lay off the guy. He's about to fix the Ottawa bus strike.

Why else would Ambrose suddenly flip flop on back to work legislation, a day or two after Obama's Ottawa visit was confirmed?

It couldn't be that it would be embarrassing for the Messiah to be picketed by striking bus workers during his visit, could it?

Posted by: cal2 at January 29, 2009 2:01 PM

Still silly after all these years...

Natural gas is the cleanest of all the fossil fuels. Composed primarily of methane, the main products of the combustion of natural gas are carbon dioxide and water vapor, the same compounds we exhale when we breathe. Coal and oil are composed of much more complex molecules, with a higher carbon ratio and higher nitrogen and sulfur contents.

This means that when combusted, coal and oil release higher levels of harmful emissions, including a higher ratio of carbon emissions, nitrogen oxides (NOx), and sulfur dioxide (SO2). Coal and fuel oil also release ash particles into the environment, substances that do not burn but instead are carried into the atmosphere and contribute to pollution.

The combustion of natural gas, on the other hand, releases very small amounts of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, virtually no ash or particulate matter, and lower levels of carbon dioxide.

Carbon dioxide is not carbon fly ash.

WRT AGW

Laura Ingram speaks for me. This is exactly why I consider any plan by PMSH to tie $ to CO2 a betrayal. I don't believe for one second that PMSH believes the AGW theory! IMO our politicians have unanimously decided to thrust new taxes on us under the guise of "consensus". I will never forget hearing Stockwell Day on Adler(or Green?) say when asked if he believed in GW " I've traveled up north and spoken to the people, and there is no denying that something is happening". Perhaps he should have been asking people back home in Alberta if they'd been feeling the warming lately; after all, talking to people is considered scientific research these days.

Cash for Clunkers
sema(specialty equipment market Association)& its U.S A. Members successfully petitioned that the "Cash for Clunkers" not be included in the Stimulus package, However Democrats have introduced New legislation in both the the senate & HoR (s247 & hr520) to create a national scrappage program, it will give US. tax dollars to consumers who turn in their gas guzzlers to have them crushed.
they will recieve vouchers ranging from $2500-$4500 based on model yr.& replacement is more efficient.
Model yrs are 2004 & later.

*that was an excerp of what was sent to me, just last week as a Canadian SEMA member.
* i guess they do not know what a tune-up is, There are many New products on the market that will improve the efficiency of a vehicle, also in Ontario we have the Inspections for drive clean. Note the starting yr.,2004, A 4yr old vehicle!. Up to $4500 thats worse then the depreciation of a vehicle when its driven off a lot, now this is assuming that the vehicle was purchased New & even if it was purchased as used most Dealers will change plugs, oxy sensors, air filters, fuel filt. etc... as they want the vehicle going out in tip top shape whether its a Test drive or a purchase.

So in one day, he proves his "flinty Illinois toughness" to the cold by telling the locals - who've lived there more than 2 weeks I presume - to go out and drive on icy roads. He also says that because he's from Hawaii and "hates the cold", he is permitted to jack the heat up in the White House to 72+ºF (greenhouse temperatures we're told) after telling us not to in order to save the planet? Or is he like Nancy Pelosi, who thinks natural gas isn't a fossil fuel?

I can't WAIT to see this embarrassing scene play out on the news tonight!

Obama is pulling a Mike Harris photo-op trick; get photographed with shirt sleeves rolled up to give the impression of hard work. I wonder how much school closure is predicated on predicted staff absences. The teachers and support staff, unlike the (wealthy) students, likely don't live within a few blocks of this exclusive school, and don't have drivers to take them to the front door.

I wonder how many workers have a looooong commute to get there (roads, public transit), that can be made pretty difficult by adverse weather conditions.

No facts for background, just a guess.

And what if natural gas doe'nt contribute to carbon emissions? So let us pretend it does'nt. Let us than consider the energy used to find, extract and finally deliver natural gas as a finished product for consumption. I'll give Zero an "A" for contributing to the economy but an "F" on being a hypocryt.

Um, no, car dealers do NOT do these things, as it would put money into a vehicle before sale, and if it does not sell then they will whole sale it, and if too much invested they will lose money when competing with other whole sale deals. Posted by: Merle Underwood at January 29, 2009 4:10 PM

Not stirred, you really need to understand a lot more before you wade into an energy debate. First, black carbon ash isn't the problem with coal, unless you've never heard of electrostatic precipitators. They've been pretty much standard issue in coal-fired plants for the more than three decades or so.

Second, nitrogen oxides are a function of combustion temperature, the higher the temperature the more the NOx. Methane burning CTUs function at much higher temperatures than coal-fired boilers, meaning MORE NOx, not less, per BTU of energy generated. Oh, and as a side note, because they are usually functioning at higher load factors, low NOx burners are much more economic on coal-fired units than CTUs with catalytic converters.

Posted by: cgh at January 29, 2009 4:49 PM

Even if we spot "not stirred enough" his goalpost move, any natural gas in excess of what he needs comes out of current stocks, creating the cost and climate impact of replacing it, which is not zero. Same with Gore's use of biodiesel for his houseboat.

But idiots like this guy are in charge now, so we better get used to the idea that "we are all chubby interns now", including shaken there, he is just too stupid to figure it out.

Maybe shaken is Nancy Pelosi, who claimed that natural gas was not a fossil fuel, or maybe he just believes the crap that comes out of her mouth.

In any event, I am sure that shaken is grateful to Sarah Palin for getting that natural gas pipeline from Alaska through Canada started. Yeah, I am sure of it. He thanks her every day.

“Mr. Obama, who hates the cold, had cranked up the thermostat.”

But in today’s National Post, Obama is quoted as saying, “My children’s school was cancelled today [January 28th]. Because of what? Some ice? . . . We’re going to have to try to apply some flinty Chicago toughness to this [city],” he added.

Of course, unlike the rest of us, Obama can believe/do polar opposites at the very same time. Is there anything of which this guy isn’t capable?

(There seems to be a pattern developing of preachiness and implied put-downs from Schoolmarm Obama: not such a good idea, IMO.)

Posted by: lookout at January 29, 2009 7:01 PM

Wonder what Jimmy Carter thinks of Obama's excuse? He turned the thermostats down to 62 and up here in Ont. close to the border, our school board passed on the order to all principals. Unfortunately for me, whose office was by the pupils' schoolyard door, our principal was the only one to take up the challenge.
I've always had a grudge against Jimmy. My neck was bent at a 45 degree angle all winter.
Jimmy was from the hot, hot south, but had pale white skin. Wonder how that equation worked for him?

Posted by: gellen at January 29, 2009 7:04 PM

lookout - yes, I agree. Obama is, as a narcissist, so sure of his own supremacy, that he is starting to preach and insist that everyone do as he says. He isn't respecting others as equal to him.

He begins his agenda by saying that IF you disagree with what he wants to do, the problem is not in his program, but in you. So, he tells the House that IF they reject his 'stimulus plan' it means that they are making their decision, not on the lack of merit in that plan, but because they are 'blinded by partisanship'. So, Obama's narcissism leads him to claim that what he proposes is perfect; if you critique it, the fault is in your psychological nature.

He's chastizing people as if they were children; he's insisting on his plan because 'he won'.
There are all signs of someone acting, not as an elected leader, but as a Sovereign (Elshtain's book). Very worrisome.

It must be a crisis because he mentioned CLIMATE CRISIS at least 8 times in his testimony.

1. It now seems unlikely that BO will ever recommend Americans "wear a sweater" like jimmy did.
