Ignatieff Tainted By Anti-Chinese Web Of Hate

Via someone who will make it her life's work to never let anyone forget;

"Our community is deeply concerned with Mr. Kinsella's comments. Kinsella repeats the most vulgar and offensive stereotypes by associating the meat served by Chinese restaurants to cat meat. He has hurt the feelings of the Chinese people and disrespected the Chinese culture," continued Yuan.

“This is not the first instance of such intolerant remarks by Mr. Kinsella therefore we call upon Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff to fire Mr. Kinsella as his senior strategist and apologize to the community.”

Well if WK wanted to be really offensive he would have got Kate riled by suggesting they used DOGMEAT!
That would have got the dog breeders in an uproar.
Never mind the Chinese community.

Buster the Cat of course is incensed at the very thought; and may just toss WK a big fat dead rat!
Tres gauche.

Hows that for a Small Dead Animal?

I think Kinsella might have gone to the same restaurants that I have. I remember when it was true. It was many, many years ago in Georgetown, Ont. and . . . . .
You have to have tasted cat meat first to make any comparison. It probably happened in his childhood--like mine with frogs. The frogs that I've cooked and eaten tasted like chicken. I've heard I would taste like pork.
I think he meant to say frog meat. Can I say that?

This Warren Kinsella is a disgusting bigot!!

How dare he humiliate and degrade our good Chinese Canadian citizens in such a way? This is an outrageous attempt to marginalize a hard working and respected minority group within community both publicly and with malice.

Do we not have criminal courts that are supposed take care of sleazy hatemonger’s such as this? For example why would you incite the animal rights people in Canada in such a way? Just another way for a guy like this to “get a chink” I would imagine. The Chinese community needs to lead the way to action, and other Canadians should support them.

Most Chinese Canadians dislike cats. Cats are for peasants, and most Chinese immigrants were not peasants. My girlfriend refuses to let me have a cat(not that I want one all that much).

One thing that does trouble me is, when the neighbour's dog wakes her up, she mutters "stirfry" in Cantonese. Also, after we visited my sister last year, her cat did go missing. It's amazing how a little ginger, some oyster sauce, and some spices can make anything taste good.

Posted by: PistonBroke at January 29, 2009 8:48 AM

While no one here probably supports the work of the HRCs, it's hard not to hope that Warren is called up in front of one, if only for the rich irony that would entail.

You see, there was a time when we didn't need bureaucratic goads like HRCs because people felt shame when they acted like idiots or did things that made them look like fools. Warren, unfortunately, has no shame, and we're at a loss to figure out how to make him feel it.

He also can't bring himself to see the punitive and arbitrary nature of HRCs, which is why it's tempting to hope that, much as we might want the things to go away, he might get called in front of one, and have to experience the absurdity of the process.

Of course, it probably won't happen; even if someone does put out a complaint, the HRCs pick and choose what they want to pursue according to their own agenda, and they protect their own; Warren, as one of their few defenders, will be indemnified.

Posted by: rick mcginnis at January 29, 2009 8:48 AM

So, in WK's world, idolizing a sociopathic communist murderer who decimated any semblance of freedoms for an entire nation is just peachy. Hurting someone's feeling is bad and must be eliminated at all costs to liberty and justice - unless it's WK doing the insulting.

But it is also true that there is no honor among thieves. If a big enough stir gets created, those "friends" will throw ol' Warnout under the bus in a New York minute. Cushy gubmint job vs. loyalty to a buddy? That's a no brainer for these guys.

Personally I can't see it being worth it to do that much stink-making work just to forcibly educate one idiot. I don't care, really. Let him carry on with his idiocy, I've got things to do.

But then, Warnout isn't suing me for anything. If he was, I'd be calling the various HRC's pretty much hourly. And the Liberal party, and Iggy's office, and all of Iggy's political opponents, the newspapers, TV, radio, etc. Mailing lots of paper letters, too. Don't Liberals hate Americans? ...well...Polls are improving drastically for the newly resurrected Liberals, especially in Quebec where the fickle voters are flocking back in droves. Good thing the Liberals are broke at the moment.

Now that Kinsella has shot himself in the foot, will Prince Michael put the Prince of Darkness "on probation" for this gaffe? I won't be holding my breath.

Man, so much to comment on:

I've been married to a Chinese woman, with a large family, for over 20 years, so I think I have some understanding of Chinese attitudes and culture.

First, North American (what my wife calls "white") culture is incredibly antiseptic and ostrich-like when it comes to food. We like to buy our meat on little white styrofoam trays with shrink wrap on it; Chinese people prefer to buy their meat as close to whole as possible. I've never been to a Chinese banquet (and I've been to many), where the fish course wasn't an entire fish, head and tail included, or the lobster didn't include the head. I remember a hot pot meal in Hong Kong where our shrimp were delivered on a skewer, with the legs still wriggling.

We want everything refrigerated or frozen until the moment it's cooked; I've seen shops in Asia where there are literally dozens of whole roasted suckling pigs on long spits stacked up on the sidewalk, awaiting delivery. Of course, when we go there, my NA immune system is so delicate that if I accidentally drink local water or eat raw local produce, it's either immediate Immodium, or imminent rush to the bathroom.

Have Chinese people ever eaten cat? I don't doubt it; they eat sea cucumber, for heaven's sake (imagine a garden slug on steroids..). Do Chinese restaurants in Canada, in this day and age, serve cat? Have to say "No". You have to feed cats, then kill them, then skin them, and then - what? - how much meat can you get from a cat? Anyone who's worked in the restaurant industry (as I have) knows that time is money, and who would spend all the time needed to do the above, when you can buy chickens for less than $1/lb?

Are Chinese people racist? In my experience: pretty much. They have some grudging respect for white people because of our technological prowess, although my wife despairs of the work ethic of our two daughters. ("Too white" she says.) Their feeling about other Asians? The Japanese are just soulless but excellent copycats, and everyone else is beneath them. Don't get me started on their attitude towards blacks. But, let me say, I have my own bias towards white people. We have, through our scientific and political progress, pulled the world into a much better place, where infant mortality is dramatically diminished, many diseases have been virtually eradicated, and more people enjoy more freedom than at any time in the history of the world. The average family, living in their air-conditioned and centrally heated home, with TV and Internet, refrigerator and stove, microwave and CD player, lives in a luxury that - seriously, think about this, folks - Victoria did not enjoy at the turn of the last century.

And I do despair (as a blond), that the demographic trends point to a future where all of us have some darker hue of skin, and some version of black/brown hair. If I live long enough, I will mourn the loss of Nordic blondes, Irish redheads, olive skinned Italians, and icy Russian brunettes. It will just be boring.

Kevin- I've only been with a Chinese woman for 5 years, but your description is exactly as mine would be. Amazingly similar.

John Begley- Only cusswords. Had to get someone to translate your question.

I think the original issue up there is fairly minor, but it's always fun to see the Wanker get hoist by his own petard.

The story in my mind is not about a racist comment from a hypocrite, they're a dime a dozen. It's about Mr. Human Rights wearing a Che ball cap! I'd love to hear him explain why he would go out in public, working for therefore representing the Liberal Party of Canada, wearing a Che Guevara ball cap. I mean does he crave empty headed teenagers flock around him or does he actually idolize Che Guevara.

Folks. go back and read Kinsella's blog entry, the one Kate has saved. Kinsella isn't offering cuisine commentary, he's deliberately offering the comment in a derisive, smart ass manner.
The point isn't whether what he said is unbelievably offensive but rather that THIS is the man Ignatief has chosen as his advisor! Kinsella has displayed incredibly poor judgment both in having made the statement and in posting it on the web.
Can't wait to see what he's got to say about O. and soulfood

Oh, if anybody here lives in Ottawa please make sure the Restaurant gets a printout of the archived screenshot...

I'd love to be a fly on the wall while the kitchen staff are blowing boogers into his Hot and Sour Soup.

The Punk Band, the Che hat, the legend-in-his-own-mind anti-Nazi heroics, the cumpulsive urge to be some Lib-bigshot's adoring poodle, the love/hate thing for our leather-clad blogmistress, the obscenity-fixated tough-guy talk, the cluelessness as he hoists himself with his own proverbial petard...
He makes me sad.

Check out National Newswatch. David Akin reports that Alice Wong demanded that Iggy fire WK.

So WK goes after Alice Wong on his blog.

It would seem that WK is not a big fan of the shoe being on the other foot. Is actually a little disappointed in WK, he is quick to use his sharp pen to attack other for his perception of their comments rightly or wrongly, but seems to be quickly confused or hurt that his own attempt at wit, if we call it that, could be misinterpreted . Suck it up WK,

In that case, the Liberals must NEVER fire Scott Reid!

His verbal spitting up is golden.

I regret to say that CHR or as I call it Human Wrongs Tribunal, could well be run by Robespierre, Trotsky, Stalin, Hitler or Khomeni. They were more brutal, but used the same methods.
As far as racism is concerned it is all mixed up. Tropical Jews call their enemies racists when in fact Palestinians are exactly the same race.
There is no bigger racism than between Blacks. Look at Rwanda!
If you complain about shauvinism of whites, try to immigrate or even work in Japan. I know of only very few Polish citizens who managed to receive permanent residency (not citizenship) in Japan. Fact that they were all young females and blue-eyed blonds seems coincidental. They had to change not only name and religion, but also friends.
