Kristol better not beat him too badly, or we may see an apology from the NYT and Kristol may be looking for a new job. Remember folks, it's all about fairness, neither point of view should be stronger than the other, unless Matt is winning the debate.
Posted by: Indiana Homez at January 26, 2009 2:35 PMMatt Damon should be mindful of the old saying, "It is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt". Anyone who takes Zinn seriously isn't too bright. I'm not sure who was the dimmer bulb in Good Will Hunting, Damon for quoting Zinn or Robin Williams for quoting Chomsky.
While I like Damon's acting and Williams sense of humour, they wouldn't qualify as a genius if you added their IQs together.
Posted by: bob c at January 26, 2009 2:37 PMDamon should stick to acting.
People that think they know everything are especially aggravating to those of us who do.
Touche Doowleb!
Posted by: puddin n pie at January 26, 2009 2:47 PMHeh , he's already fired .
Posted by: Bill D. Cat at January 26, 2009 2:52 PMBill D. Cat; there's something wrong with that link, I'm getting a 'page load error' msg.
Is this what you were referring to?

Doesn't sound like he was fired so much as they agreed to disagree. Money issues?
Posted by: DaninVan at January 26, 2009 3:08 PMIt's from Newsbusters. Sounds like the old you can't fire me , I quit ! routine .
Posted by: Bill D. Cat at January 26, 2009 3:21 PMI think Doolweb should stick to cleaning toilets.
Posted by: tylerdurden at January 26, 2009 4:15 PMMy prediction? Damon would keep calling him, and all conservatives, nasty names and Kristol would keep spouting a bunch of annoying facts.
Posted by: ducktrapper at January 26, 2009 4:39 PMShould be interesting if we hear this
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWTzyU5MFgM&feature=related
But Damon never stuck me as being empty, I disagree with him but he can string a sentence together.
Kristol..lets put it this way, he had better beat Damon in the debate given that this has been his job for some time, opinions on american foreign policy and he is one of the supposed architects of the Iraq policy and the Palin candidacy.
I wonder if he will run up the score?
Posted by: Stephen at January 26, 2009 5:32 PMAnd my prediction. NO matter how convincing Kristol is, or how childish Damon's arguments, 90% of the general population who watch said debate will think that Damon is the winner.
An intellectual arguing with a doofus only lowers himself to the doofus' level. A spectacle like this only legitimizes the notion that people in the entertainment industry have useful credentials as social and political opinion leaders.
Posted by: Lori at January 26, 2009 5:34 PMA few years back, Paul Newman debated Charlton Heston over nuclear arms negotiations. Heston really kicked Newman's butt, because he did his homework before the debate. It was classic logic vs emotion. Newman seemed to step away from politics after that.
I'd still stay up to watch either of them on the late movie. Most of us would be better off putting politics into a back pocket.
Posted by: dp at January 26, 2009 6:15 PMI would pay good money to watch that debate. I really hope it happens.
Posted by: EBD at January 26, 2009 7:42 PM" briefly attended HARVARD.."
Uh, is that known as "name dropping"?
Could mean he once walked in and bought a coffee.
WTF...
I'm still trying to figure out where, in an actor's degree, it says they are qualified in making political judgments. Oh, you mean you don't need a degree to be an actor? Actors who have or do hold office, I will listen to what they have to say and make my decisions and opinions based on what I've heard. It's like getting an opinion from someone who has stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.
Using your fame in one field to profess an expertise in another, seems to be a Hollywood standard that I find annoying. No Wilfred, I buy my oatmeal because I like it, not because you shill it.

Lori, you are probably correct. Suspect Bill is too well-bred to hand out the really humiliating ass-kicking Damon deserves.
