So Now They Notice

Had they interrupted the babbling about His Magnificence long enough to take a breath, the media might have noticed that He Who Need Not Explain actually stopped taking their questions* last September;

Veteran CBS newsman Bill Plante was one of the most vocal critics, questioning the White House’s handling of Wednesday night’s second swearing in – which was covered by just a four-reporter print pool that didn’t include a news photographer or TV correspondent.

He also asked new press secretary Robert Gibbs why ABC, which paid millions to host the DC Neighborhood Ball, was granted the only inauguration day interview with President Obama – a move he equated to “pay to play.”

Politico;

Asked how he could reconcile a strict ban on lobbyists in his administration with a Deputy Defense Secretary nominee who lobbied for Raytheon, Obama interrupted with a knowing smile on his face.

"Ahh, see," he said, "I came down here to visit. See this is what happens. I can't end up visiting with you guys and shaking hands if I'm going to get grilled every time I come down here."

Here's an excerpt from the Politico article on this subject:

"Alright, come on" he said, with obvious irritation in his voice. "We will be having a press conference at which time you can feel free to [ask] questions. Right now, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to you guys - that's all I was trying to do."

The president was quickly saved by a cameraman in the room who called out: “I’d like to say it one more time: ‘Mr. President.’ ”

Nice to see a butt-kissing MSM type helped save the day for His Obamaness. My contempt and loathing for the leftard MSM knows no bounds. They give whores a bad name.

Obama and pay-to-play? Shocka!

Well, I think I understand his desire to informally meet and make sure the press sees what a nice guy he is, but this is the big time, can't get away with folksy stuff forever.

And, getting the press rankled may make them re-evaluate their unfettered support.

Visit?
What a busy guy the President of the United States of America is.
The economy is circling the bowl and he wants to pet his lap dogs as they hump his leg.

In Canada, we have question period in Parliament so that the Opposition can question the Government.

In the U.S., the only ones who can ask the hard questions are the Media. The Media isn't supposed to be so schmoozy with the Chief Executive.

He is now the President and needs to be accountable to the people. His first real press conference will be interesting - no telepromter and maybe some hard questions. Scratch that, the MSM will not be asking any hard questions.

President

Evah!

Day two as president and he already becomes irritated with with a not too difficult to respond to question? Wait till the going gets tough.

IMPEACH THIS DUMB BASTARD BEFORE WE GET BOMBED AGAIN.

With the popularity that Conservatives are enjoying in the USA today, I would be extremly careful before writing derogatory slurrs on a site such as this one. I'm Canadian, I hold a Conservative membership at both levels of Gov't. I do however believe that Obama is a remarkable man.
Comments such as "spitballer's" are exactly the type of ammo that Liberals are looking for. I know if I was working on the Libaral opposition's executive committee, (I have in the past,) that's the type of rhetoric I would cherish. Just look at the domino effect that Likuwski and Ritz`s commnents had at the last Cdn fed. election. Both members were re-elected in Saskatchewan where the voters turn a deaf ear to such rhetoric. In Ontario however, their jokes weren't quite as funny. You be the judge as to where we (CPC) lost the dozen seats we needed for a majority.

I'm going to say it probably was rude of Plante, given the stated circumstances, but hey he didn't throw any shoes, did he?

Is that a trainwreck I see coming?

The fun is just starting. The MSM can't cover everything for O'bomb-a now that he is unleashing his Marxist agenda. The peeps will notice things aren't working the way they should.

Posted by: Rosco at January 23, 2009 12:21 PM

I think Obama's reaction is based on his narcissistic personality; he expects to be received as Sovereign, which means, not to be questioned.

A democratic leader is always a representative of and for the people and therefore accountable to them. A Sovereign is not accountable.

Whether Obama can deal with this personality trait, a key trait in his psyche, is the question.

Was it just me, or did that female "White House Reporter" have that old Monica Lewinsky twinkle in her eye ?

Who does he think he is, Jean Chretien?

Posted by: Brent at January 23, 2009 12:58 PM

The fact that the cameraman "saved" him sickens me. Anybody remember that Fifth Estate episode about the Martensville scandal... Chris Axworthy is getting grilled and he gets "saved" by a guy as they go on the elevator. I couldn't help thinking the "saver" used to be a TV guy.

O and the MSM exchange vows: the Marriage is complete: OMSM.

I’ve already predicted there will be a lot of ex-Virgins on the Political left. For America's sake I hope he does okay. Not counting on it though. Never forget when the States pay in bad policy, so do we down the line.
Remember Jimmy Carter? Of course our own Messiah Trudeau. Still paying forty years latter in treasure & sweat for the socialist fop's policies. He degraded Democracy to the point of Plutocracy with entitlement as ones social standing. Not honor or integrity. Too passé for that beast.
He brought us the death cult, as well as starting the one we live with now.
all along it was the media that has arbitrated this while never crying the alarm on the ever increasing corruption with loss of freedom. Brought about by the Faux “Great society” Its why they have become a byword for dishonesty & bias. The MSM will just continue to worship the President they believe is in power because of them. To do otherwise is to validate the charge of Bias towards them. So the dream must continue no matter how many lies. Expect no news on Obama, but praise for the Leader.

No, ggm, that was definitely fawning.

As confirmed by the Big O, though, it's alot smaller than previously thought.

Posted by: Jan at January 23, 2009 6:49 PM

if the press room is smaller than he thought they should be able to afford some lights.

that video made him darker than on the posters.

"Both members were re-elected in Saskatchewan where the voters turn a deaf ear to such rhetoric."

Ritz margin of victory 9,048
Lukiwski margin of victory 7,090

Quite remarkable landslides especially when considering the fact that the media did its utmost to portray both men as insensitive, homophobic neanderthals.

Are us Saskatchewanians too uncivilized to recognize the fact that we should be offended?

Or are we more concerned with good government, sound policies and common sense than we are with an MP guilty of making a bad joke or indulging in a drunken indiscretion 17 years ago?

I'm putting my money on the latter.

To suggest that the actions of Ritz and Lukiwski cost the CPC a majority is unrealistic.

Posted by: biffjr. at January 23, 2009 9:46 PM

Revnant Dream's comment above is quite valid. If the US keeps going downhill economically, we are sure to follow (or continue to follow - it's already started). So we don't need that at all.

However, I do think that it is possible for BO to disappoint many of his devotees and still do well economically. (actually, doing well economically will undoubtedly offend a large portion of his support base)

The question is - will he do it?

In fairness, one can hardly blame him for expecting the media to be his friend. Their record would invite him to conclude this.

Posted by: Darrell at January 24, 2009 12:44 AM

If we are lucky - the media will continue to be the vultures they are so when "O" s meat (policy) starts to rot they swoop down to fed on his flesh. But as Revenant dream said, they may just cover the stench of his rot and feed on conservatives instead. Will either be amusing or horrific to watch.

Posted by: buzzard at January 24, 2009 3:05 AM

No one at the drop in center ever expected him to answer questions.
Don't these reporters know it's not the Whitehouse anymore?

Posted by: OMMAG at January 24, 2009 3:43 PM

As a bit of an aside... but still relevant I think: Has anyone else of a conservative bent noticed that liberal friends and relatives *refuse* to talk politics unless the people they're talking with agree with them?

Two recent cases in point: People I play cards with were talking about the "holocaust" in Gaza. I said that I felt their use of the term "holocaust" was completely inappropriate, unless they can prove that the Israeli's had put 6 million Gazan's onto cattle trucks and were loading them into gas ovens and mass graves. "Alright.." one of them quipped. "No more politics."

Another friend said on Obama's inaguration day "Good riddance.... Bush was the WORST President EVER." I asked simply..... "Why?" My dinner companion spluttered a bit.. and replied "Well he started the war in Iraq." I replied "Oh? And what should have been the US response to the 9-11 attacks?" At that point BOTH my husband and his wife said "NO MORE POLITICS!"

Whatever happened to civilized debate? It seems that Liberals everywhere... including Obama... just don't like a little off-the cuff discussion.
