The Mob On The Mall (Give Or Take A Million)

Four, three, two... Newsbusters;

ASU journalism professor Stephen Doig took it to the satellite image to get an accurate count of the crowd. His tally, after even accounting for those still in route to the event: 800,000. Now let's look at how the working Obamalists portrayed that to the public.

Moneyrunner catches the Washington Post quoting a statistic taken from a source that used the Washington Post as the source.

Is there anything that O'bamby can't do?

Posted by: Sounder at January 22, 2009 10:39 AM

Maybe they were using an estimate based on the amount of filth left behind on the ground?

Posted by: Justthinkin at January 22, 2009 10:45 AM

And they wonder why their newspapers are going broke.

At the inauguration where Obama properly mouthed the words to the Oath of Office - last night --there was perhaps a crowd of 20.

They re-did the inauguration because they screwed it up on live TV. So which one is the real inauguration?

From the Globe and Mail:

THE U.S. PRESIDENCY: IN BRIEF I, Barack Hussein Obama, do repeatedly swear . . .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AP Washington Chief Justice John Roberts of the U.S. Supreme Court has administered the presidential oath of office to Barack Obama for a second time, just to be on the safe side.

The unusual step came after Chief Justice Roberts flubbed the oath slightly on Tuesday, causing Mr. Obama to repeat the wording differently than as prescribed in the Constitution.

White House counsel Greg Craig says Mr. Obama took the oath again out of an "abundance of caution." The Chief Justice and the President handled the matter privately in the Map Room last night.

This sophistry is the same “doublethink” as that of the Dutch court concerning Geert Wilders—and the doublethink of just about every other public and many private institutions these days, which are overwhelmingly, unrepentantly left-wing.

As Ezra points out (see “Holland’s National Suicide Note”), via Orwell, these people have no problem at all simultaneously holding contradictory ideas as self-evident truths. They also have no qualms about being caught out: “No big deal.” And, until the internet, these moral pygmies got away with it.

We’re fighting moral pygmies both outside—the Muslims—and inside—the Muslims and our lefty fifth columnists—in our countries. They remind me of Orcs and the Uruk-Hai: it’s comforting to think that these two groups, though they were on the same side of the battle, couldn’t, in reality, stand each other and eventually ended up fighting one another. We can only hope . . . But, whichever way one looks at it, the West is a mess.

a million were there "in spirit"

Im always suspect of estimates of superbowl viewers and oscar viewers. especially the former if there are women in the room. unless they really do have eyes in the backs of their heads.
its a rare occasion that they are actually viewing.

Now, that's good stuff, hat tip to the Virginian.

But, I didn't know in all the confusion that we would have to buy Rose Petals now to throw at Obama's feet.

Not to mentiom; I have tried several times to watch B. Hussien speak and every single time it's as though I am getting a frigin lecture, I left home at 16, joined the Navy at 17, and have been on my own since, I don't need no stinkin lecture, I need Tax Brakes, lower Mortgage Rate, $2 dollar gas, and God Forbid, someone close those dayyam borders, before Pelosi, Reid, and Obama legalize 30 Million Future Democrats.

By the looks of a previous picture of garbage left, 'totally disgraceful'. Can you imagine if 4 million people were there, it would have looked like a landfill site.

Posted by: Merle Underwood at January 22, 2009 11:04 AM

It will be interesting to see as time marches on just how many people will claim to have "been there" at this great moment in history.

Did you spot O at Woodstock '94? O was at Woodstock '94, informed sources say.

On a slightly related note:
A fine Canadian journalist takes his peers to task, again.
Lorrie Goldstein has a knack for calling the Canadian MSM on their bias and hypocrisy, laziness and ineptitude.

Wonder how long they will let him stay in the club?He doesn't fit the mold.

Dare I insert a "Bushism" here and say the MSM may have "misoverestimated" the crowd size. ; )

National Park Service estimate- 1.8 million

I remember hearing a story once about a young man who was given a job by a lumber company counting logs floating in an estuary. The manager figured that it would take several weeks for the young man to complete the count, presumably hopping from log to log with a clipboard. The young man hired a pilot to fly him over the estuary so that he could take a photograph. He then counted the logs in the photograph and completed the job in a couple of days, taking the rest of the time allotted as a paid vacation. Perhaps he has now gone on to greater things, such as actually counting heads in a crowd rather than guesstimating. Media reporters could learn from his experience (the story is that he went on to become an engineer).

That's one source ,
You really have to read the link before reflexively dismissing as heresy what you hear. To summarize, National Parks service quoted a guesstimate by the Washington Post. The Washington Post quoted the National Parks services quote from the Washington Post. The original number was pulled out of the air.

Posted by: Jay at January 22, 2009 1:20 PM

Dude, read the link.

Park service spokesman David Barna said the agency did not conduct its own count. Instead, it will use a Washington Post account that said 1.8 million people gathered on the U.S. Capitol grounds, National Mall and parade route, he said."

"the doublethink of just about every other public and many private institutions these days, which are overwhelmingly, unrepentantly left-wing."

The unsasked question remains: "how much real damage can they do in four years". Is this one of those rhetorical enough rope things?

Justthinkin "Maybe they were using an estimate based on the amount of filth left behind on the ground?"

BINGO!

PiperPaul, perhaps you could make yourself somewht less obscure.

Thanks.

Texas Canuck said:

It's already being said in the MSM that "everyone" will remember where they were when Barack was inaugurated. I guess this sort of an inverse of when Kennedy was shot.

The predetermined media gushing orgasm continues...

Lookout, do you want my credit card number or something?

Or did you mispell 'obtuse'.

If Obama and his team can do this with people, imagine what they can do with loaves and fishes.

Watched the inauguration on CNN. They consistently reported, "Almost two million people" and "Two million".

PBS McNeil Lehrer report that evening consistently said, "Almost one million".

you people are forgeting what lefties realy are

they are stupid, so stupid they each have to be two people just to account for such stupidity, so just count the heads and multiply by 2, and you have the liberal body count

Posted by: GYM at January 22, 2009 10:23 PM

Ok ... so the National Parks Service whose job it is to monitor and maintain the parks of the nation and specifically in the one that matters in this case, says they cannot be bothered to do their job and goes to the MSM for information that is completely fictitious. The very same MSMers go to the worthless snivel service to corroborate their fantasies.

And nobody loses their job!

How great is that?

Ye Olde Contrarian and Truth-Teller

THREE HUNDRED MILLION NOT AT OBAMA INAUGURAL
______________________________________________

WASH DC -- Informed sources tell us that three hundred million Americans were not at the Obama inaugural.

Their eyes were not lit up with rapture when he stated that "I will bring a golden age of peace aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand prosperity, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand you won't even have to payforit."

Liars always look down and to their left, an expert in communications told us.

In a related development, the new president took the oath of office for a second time, this time on a Koran with Mahmoud Ahmedinejad on a live compu-cam hookup, chanting Allah will destroy Israel. A White House spokesman told us that the media were not alerted "because we were lying about the whole transparency bit, what are you kidding, the guy is a raving Marxist ya know."
