2008 Weblog Awards - My Picks

The Stubblejumper vs The Mighty Yanks! it's a win-win for the Canadian blogosphere. For those on the right, an opportunity to pull together and score one for Canada! For those on the left, an opportunity to pull together and stick it to the lousy Americans!

In the meanwhile, be sure to check out the other categories - here are some of my picks:

Best Blog - my favourite isn't nominated this year, so I'm going with Hot Air.

Best Individual Blogger - The Anchoress.

Best Humor - Mother May I Sleep With Treacher

Best Science Blog - an easy choice in Watts Up With That

Best Culture Blog - SondraK

And the category that's the most difficult - Best Canadian Blog, because there are so many good choices, including my co-defendants Ezra and Kathy Shaidle, our good friends at The Torch, and Darcey's Dust My Broom. And if you can't make up your mind, you can help Canadian Sentinel achieve his goal of beating "a couple of Leftists".

(I haven't been through all of the categories. If you spot any other Canadian blogs in competition, drop me a note.)

You are allowed to vote once every 24 hours until the polls close. No cheating, please - the Weblog admins have enough work as it is.

Best Humour Blog and they missed "Iowahawk"?

Watt's Up With That?, indeed.

In the Canadian blog category, I suggest we start rumors that competitor blogs are "American-like", the ultimate Canadian epithet. That'll cost 'em some votes! ;-)

Kate, brava! You seem to be in third place, which is quite a feat, now that you’re a smaller fish—not much!—in a much bigger pond.

I have to be honest, I didn’t expect that SDA would be so near the top, considering . . . But I’ll bet you’ve got a lot of Americans rooting for you too.

Yup, the Canadian category’s a tough one. I’ll admit I’m tipping my hat to Ezra considering the yeoman service he’s doing to protect our free speech “rights” in this country. (But so are many others. As I said, it’s a tough call.)

I'd certainly be pleased to place higher than last year's eighth, but it's cool just to be a finalist again. It's a very competitive field and I'm honored to be one of the contenders.

I hope Ezra Levant wins, beating the "Redneck Mommy", who, while she appears to be one hot mama with fine writing skills, she's certainly no Ezra. Ezra certainly deserves to come out on top. Ezra's a hero, so I hope he's going to win first place. Besides, Ezra winning will really stick in the craw of the likes of Special K and the Warrin' Man, as well as their grumpy brethren...

Kate - I love WUWT, but serious climate people should go with Climate Audit - I know I will

Posted by: jlc at January 6, 2009 7:21 PM

I love CA too, and endorsed them last year, but Anthony has bridged that gap between harder science and popular interest. Climate Audit becomes so technical that it's difficult to follow. Nothing wrong with that, but I tilted towards Watts.

Posted by: Kate at January 6, 2009 8:01 PM

It looks to me to be a deliberate attempt to minimize Canadian Blogs winning, particularly Climate Audit. The spurious comments on some blogs are very derogatory to CA.

As it happens, I have a link to WUWT on my Fav bar, and not one for CA, but I still think CA is a better SCIENCE blog.

I checked out 'Redneck Mommy'...
interesting, but doesn't seem to fit the category. Perhaps I should have checked the archives.I have no interst in returning.
I'm a poltical junkie that needs a daily fix, and I didn't 'get it' in that blog.
Anchoress is great!
Kate...you set the pace.No surprise that you are right up there with the American blogs. Congrats!

Posted by: bluetech at January 6, 2009 8:21 PM

I hope no one is taking this too seriously here. I know the left wing blogs are fighting to the deathe over who should step aside to form a "coalition".
Quite a lot of fun, really.

Wow, Kate. Thanks for the endorsement....I am honored!

Party on, Garth. If I can't vote for Iowahawk in that category then I just can't vote in that category.
At least they managed it so it's not Kathy vs. Kate. I'd be a wreck.

I'm an American rooting for Kate

I'll put a plug in for Shire Network News (Best Podcast). Kathy Shaidle makes an appearance in SNN Podcast #150.

sda !! Just a 20 vote gain needed to move into second place !!

Amazing - but not at all surprising. Quality sells. (Time to drop a note to potential advertisers)

I don't know why Iowahawk isn't on there either. He should be instead of me.

Posted by: Jim Treacher at January 7, 2009 9:13 AM

Thank you, and I hope nobody holds it against me that Iowahawk isn't on there. I don't get that one either.

Posted by: Jim Treacher at January 7, 2009 9:21 AM

I should probably mention that I have short-term memory problems.

Posted by: Jim Treacher at January 7, 2009 9:23 AM

As I might expected your choices are about the same as mine (held off on the Best Blog category for same reason).

One thing bugs me tho', why is OTB in your favorites roll?
